Top carnitas taco. Bottom pastor taco
    Jeremy D.

Came in for a quick bite after shopping Got 2 tacos. Carnitas and pastor. Carnitas was fried. Pastor was ok. Salsa bar with 3 different salsa, carrots and jalapeños, and limes. Horchata was ok too. 7 tables inside and couple tables outside. Nothing spectacular and did the job for a quick bite.

I'm impressed with their carnitas super taco and the herbs on the table. This added touch distinguishes this taqueria from others. Delicious!

    Super Burrito - Carne Asada

Stopped in for a quick lunch before the ride home. I ordered the super carne asada burrito. They put a ton of meat, rice and beans. I guess they had 3 options for beans but I didn't know and they gave me pinto beans. Super also has sour cream and guacamole pretty much non-existent. Burrito had no flavor. I didn't want hot salsa, I guess they don't have mild, nothing was inside. Service was fast and plenty of seating inside and a couple tables out front. Chips were not served. When I left I ordered a small jamaica tea, that was good and refreshing, not overly sweet.

Al Pastor Super Burrito with Refried Beans

We've had various things at El Gallo through the years- from tacos and quesadillas to their burritos, and have tried their carne asada, al pastor, and chorizo. Their tacos are passable and quesadillas are just okay. I think the burritos are probably the best thing there- good portions, soft, and tasty. The red, creamy salsa is super tasty but I would pass on their green salsa which is watery and sour. We've found their carne asada to be dry and bland, al pastor to be tasty but strangely sour, and chorizo to be burnt and too oily. Out of everything, I'd recommend the al pastor super burrito with refried beans and red salsa. But I've found better burritos in the area from other taquerias who offer better meats and salsas.

This location has a pretty decent size variety of a menu. Small seating on the inside with some limited outside seating as well. I definitely like the fact that they had shrimp cocktail as that was my lunch preference during my particular visit here. The customer service was also, good as well. They do have what I could see a few options for vegan for example of vegetarian super burrito. Which was going to be my first choice but then decided to go with the shrimp cocktail. I did not notice public restrooms here. So it seems more or less you here to enjoy your meal, and then going about your day. They are located within an established shopping center close to the freeway. I would say the pricing was pretty reasonable for the most part. It kind of resembles and reflects the overall market. Nothing too fancy about this location, but it is still a good spot to have a fulfilling meal.

The shrimp plate is so good. The shrimps are big and perfectly cooked. The rice, beans and guacamole go very well together. And it's very nice to also have tortillas wrapped in the tinfoil and they are hot and soft.

While driving through Pleasanton, we decided to get a quick bite to eat. We decided to look for some tacos nearby. Google maps quickly directed us to Taqueria El Gallo as the closest one to us. taqueria, El Gallo is located in a small shopping center next to the 580 freeway. You can find that right next to Paris baguette. The restaurant is small and has a few tables outside. As soon as I walked in, I could smell delicious meat cooking on the grill. I ordered five traditional tacos. the ones with only onion and cilantro. We tried the Carne Asada, Carnitas and tacos al pastor. my favorite where the Carnitas. They were solid five star!!! The other 2 were also very good although the tacos al pastor would have been better with pineapple, which was not available. The carne asada was soft and had no fat! We also had the horchata agua fresca, and it was excellent. they also had additional flavors of aguas frescas such as Tamarindo, jamaica (hibiscus flower tea). they also had a good selection of Mexican beers and a soda pops such as Jarritos. All in all, the tacos were excellent and you should try them out!

1 each, al pastor and carne asada

First visit, gotta tellya, this is the real deal. Got a pair of tacos (al pastor, carne asada), Chips, salsa, horchata and was very pleased. The meat is quick charred on a hot flat top and piled on a pair steamy, hot, corn tortillas. There's a fresh salsa bar, too.

When you walk in it smells so good. I liked that we were able to sit outside on a nice day. The workers are nice and the service was quick. Would recommend eating here for a quick bite.

Soft Tacos - Carne Asada (L), Chorizo (R)

Very good AUTHENTIC Mexican food place. I mean, they sell BUCHE. This is my husband and I's go-to place for soft tacos. These are the classic street kind with salsa, onions, and cilantro. Carne Asada, Chorizo, Pollo Asada, Carnitas - I haven't had a meat option I didn't like so far. I'm not as much into the buche, but my hubby swears by it. Rojo Red Salsa is the standard that comes on the tacos, you can ask them to swap for Verde Green Salsa if you want. Don't forget to ask for limes! If you're extra hungry, I recommend you get the regular nachos as an appetizer. These are a mini version of the popular Carne Asada Super Nachos. It comes in a slim sub size container. Generous toppings. You can pick any meat on the menu. Wish I took a picture, but it looked so good when I opened it, I dug in. I had that classic "doh! I forgot to take my Yelp pic" moment. Worth it though for that first bite feeling. Prices reasonable. Call ahead to place your takeout order and it'll be ready in 10-15 min.

    Burrito de Chorizo! With everything.

The asada tacos were easily the highlight--solid 8/10 and definitely the "hit" of the meal. The carnitas were decent (around a 5 or 6), and while the salsa verde was good, the other salsas lacked a deep, authentic sabor. However, as a Mexican who knows my beans, the refried beans were a major disappointment. They tasted like they came straight from a can and had a strange oil flavor that just didn't sit right. Pro Tip: Ask for extra lime and cilantro. They tend to go heavy on the onions but light on the greens. Their Chile de Árbol is great, but you'll need at least 4 or 5 limes to really bring the flavors out! the customer service was a 10/10 :) thanks ladies

The Food: Street Food Double: The chutneys were incredibly flavorful, pairing perfectly with the well-cooked chickpeas. The bara pockets were wonderfully soft and delicious. Oxtail Stew: Generous portion size with plenty of chunky meat that literally falls off the bone. It was perfectly marinated in a great blend of spices. Pairing the stew with a side of their coconut rice is highly recommended! Banana Bread Pudding: Having heard so much hype about this, it was just alright for me. The ambiance is cute with a small closed off glass area of wine and two seater table inside! Our waitress Dominique was amazing. She was able to give great recommendations for wines and food. She also made us feel taken cared of and was friendly/warm. The food is a mix of mexican/euro/american so there were a lot of different options. Here are the things we got: Appetizers - Parm crusted cauliflower: so good, nice and crunchy but not too heavily breaded. The chipotle mayo was delish - Chicharrones: so light and crispy! They were hot out of the fryer. It had a side of a corn cheese dip that was so good and made it more unique of a dish -- must try if you even kind of eat chicharrones. I don't generally like pork skin but I enjoyed it regardless. - Hamachi ceviche: this is a large sharing portion with chunks of hamachi and avocado. Good but not a must have. Entrees - Enchiladas: very cheesy and overall a good dish but I would skip this. - Shrimp tostadas: large size shrimp and it just comes with two tostadas so I don't think it was worth the price - Barramundi fillet: The fish was tender and juicy. I liked the marinades that came with it. I liked this dish with the rice because it made me feel homey. Good portion of fish. - Agua Chile Ribeye: This is a must have! The ribeye is sous vide so it was soo tender and juicy. The broth was really nice to keep everything moist and flavorful. Unfortunately, the food experience didn't live up to the service. Charging extra for chips and salsa at what is essentially a Mexican restaurant (even if it's branded as "Southwestern") was disappointing, especially when the salsa portion was so small. Chips and salsa are such a staple that it felt out of place to pay extra for them. The biggest issue, though, was the tortillas. They weren't heated, which made them feel dry and mealy and they fell apart while eating the tacos. The steak itself was flavorful, but the tortillas made it difficult to enjoy what could have been a really good dish. I genuinely hope they make a few adjustments because the people there were fantastic, the drinks were excellent, and this place has a lot of potential.
