Nonna has become our go to bakery, our sweet retreat, and one of our favorite local brunch spots. Now, they even have happy hour and, during the summer, dinner (Nonna Summer Nights)! And all of the food is amazing. Seriously, truly legit! We buy bread from there each week. No more "big box store" bread you freeze. They make their bread fresh daily. They only use fresh, locally sourced ingredients with no preservatives. It's nice to look at an ingredient list and not see a paragraph for bread (and be able to pronounce all the names!). And their cupcakes and sweets. Yo, seriously so good. And the thing is, because of the ingredients they use, we don't feel heavy or overly wired after eating cake or cupcakes from them. From other places you can tell they use preservatives, refined sugars, processed ingredients. But with Nonna, you can just taste the difference. We even had them make our special cake for our wedding! We recently tried their dinner (twice!) and it exceeded expectations. Now, mind you, all of their food has always been good but our experience was amazing. Their prix fixe menu was well put together, wine pairings on point, dessert was also delicious. Our favorite was the tiramisu! Also loved the spaghattini and casarecce pastas, and entrecôte di manzo, but everything was great. Their brunch is also great, you really can't go wrong on the menu. And I think we've gone through almost all of it! Finally, (if you've stayed with me this long!) the absolute best thing about Nonna for us is the TEAM. Hands down no question. The food is good, space is a comfortable neighborhood vibe, and all that. But truly the folks here are amazing humans. Always friendly, warm, and welcoming. If the management team is reading this, you all have a great group of people there! We will definitely be back (again and again and again) and you should too!

WTH is that logic???? Honestly, not cool. And their bread is HELLA EXPENSIVE. If I'm going to buy your expensive bread and pay to sit at your table, WHY CANT I EAT THE BREAD I JUST BOUGHT? Makes no sense!! So now I make my own Baked Eggs and my own bread. I can eat as much as I want. 4/5 for Baked Eggs 1/5 for their bakery policy

Raspberry dream, 2. salted caramel, 3. White chocolate raspberry (cutie pie), 4. marionberry (nicely tart, full of berries but a bit dry, went well with ice cream), 5. whiskey peach (too much crust, not enough peach, not very peachy). The shop has some seating but I only saw one group seated once. I always took my pies home to enjoy. There is plenty of street parking (metered, 15 min free), and here is a parking structure around the back of the block (2 hours free).

German Chocolate cake - oh my god!!! That was one of the best German chocolate cakes I've ever had. I enjoyed how moist the cake was and the nutty texture on top was next level. I would definitely order another slice. The Cinnamon roll - this was my favorite thing we ordered. This cinnamon roll was to die for! Pillowy soft and the right amount of sweetness. The roll was so good with the nuts alone that I didn't even need or use the icing we asked for on the side. This was such a delight.

I understand that the table felt wronged, and everyone has the right to voice their concerns. Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold. I'd still give them another chance in the future... after I get paid!

Walking through the parking lot to the entrance along Long Beach Boulevard, it was easy to notice that the area was kept clean - both the parking lot and the drive-thru are spotless. Upon entering the front door we were greeted at the counter with a friendly 'how can I help you.' There were a few people on the inside picking up and finishing up their orders. Classic donut shop ambiance. Everything was clean and the display cases were filled with products. I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted, but I asked what their most popular items were. I noticed like most of the donut shops I've been to, they have a classic croissant ham and cheese as well as a great selection of freshly made donuts. My favorite is an apple fritter. We ordered coffee, a couple of croissants, ham and cheese and two apple fritters to go. As she was carefully packing our box to go she asked if we would like to try the cake glazed donut. What a nice surprise! They were fresh and still warm. As we were leaving there were some people coming in the door to pick up phone orders. There were a few people there for the peace and quiet with something to drink and a pastry. There is also a drive-up window that is very convenient along Long Beach Boulevard. Just look for the big donut! What a great experience and a cute place to discover near my appointments! As I entered the parking lot I witnessed a lady hanging out of the window of a car missing a rear bumper, cursing at a minivan that looked like it had recently been involved in a series of hit-and-run crimes. There was a single woman working the counter. She was polite and matter of fact. I had promised my kids donuts, so I ordered my box to go. While she used appropriate tongs to put them in the box, she didn't bother to fully close or seal the box. Just looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, I headed immediately back to my car but was followed by an unknown man shouting at me asking if I could spare a dollar.
