I love the friend chicken plate here. If I'm ever in the mood for a carb overload, this is the place I go for sure! The chicken is def the best fried chicken in the city for me, and all of the sides are true southern style. I love the atmosphere too, its quiet but not too quiet, family oriented, and casual. Quite a variety of choices. They mostly cater to southern style food. They did have grilled, fried , and blackened versions of several seafood dishes. The chived sour cream that came with my potato was yummy. The fruit plate that was highly recommended by our server was fresh and delicious. It was also much larger than I was expecting. All of the other food that came out was better than average . I didnt eat any of the black and blue steak but Dominic said it was delicious. This place gets a star for the people watching alone. We sat next to three drunk men and their wives on one side and some French Canadians on the other side. Very entertaining. We will be back. Overrated and definitely could have been better. I understand why so many loyal customers swear by this place coz they have been coming to this place since decades. But the newer of taste buds will definitely not take a liking to this place. We were a party of 8 and were seated promptly at the back of the dining room. We reached before 6:30 so were able to take advantage of their happy hour food menu. Half of us ordered through the happy hour food menu while the other half ordered off the regular menu coz the much praised fried chicken isnt available on the happy hour menu. We got the option which included a combination of all the kind of meat along with a side of mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. It was good but it was not good enough to hit the right taste spot. This place is pretty awesome. The servers are very friendly. Eric, my server, was a funny guy and made the experience enjoyable. He was prompt about refilling my sweet tea and bringing me some hot sauce. Let's cut to the chase: the fried chicken here is bangin'. For $14 I got two breasts, a wing, and a drumstick. The batter is well seasoned and has just the right amount of crunch with a bit of grease to help it slide down your gullet. The breasts? Very juicy, not dry at all, just how they should be. The wing was also good, and if I come here again I'll probably just get two wings instead of a wing and a drumstick. On top of that, they also give you two sides with your dish. I went for the collard greens and the mac 'n' cheese. The collard greens were delicious, especially with some green pepper sauce. The mac n cheese was just okay. There was some liquid at the bottom of the little dish they served it in which watered down the flavor. I think next time I'll opt for the fried okra. The food was ok, the host was really rude, our server was good, but overall its just not anything to write home about. I am a vegetarian and there were not very good options. But thats to be expected from a southern place. The place was packed, so it is clearly popular, but to say I have had better food is an understatement. Great service and good food for the price. It wasn't that crowded when we got there around 6 or 7pm for dinner. I got the Southern Fried Chicken Classics, 4pcs mix with sides of sweet potato soufflé and mac n cheese. Awesome choice! This is classic southern food. I usually get the dark meat because it's juicier but I thought I get a mix to try it all and the white meat was done just perfect, still juicy. The skin was also nice and crispy with not feeling too greasy after biting into it. For desserts, it was a tough choice because I was craving for the key lime pie but their peach cobbler was highly recommended as well. We got both and they were not disappointing. Both were delicious but in the end....I gotta vote for the peach cobbler. If I go back to Atlanta, I would hit that spot for another southern meal. But please remember, cash only. This is about the most bizarre meat and three place I have ever been to, but in the most wonderful way! First thing's first - cash only. The service is great and the staff all seems to genuinely enjoy their job, which makes the experience even better. The people watching is also something to behold. You get a huge range of folks indulging in the Southern goodness. And if that's not enough, they have a full bar. Oh yes, it's true! The food is pretty decent. It's not gourmet, but it's very straight forward and delicious. The friend chicken breast was incredibly moist, rounded out with some tasty mashed potatoes and squash. I dream about their coconut cream pie! There are a few off-beat items serving as the specials. The favourites are always there, but I believe my eyes weren't deceiving me when I saw kangaroo on the special board? We returned on Father's Day because my 86 yro father loves reminiscing about the good old days. We requested Jasmine because she was amazing on our last visit. Disappointed that the chicken dinner increased in price from $14 to $20. That's a significant increase. The website still list price as $14. The sides were $4 each for small portions. I had Thanksgiving lunch/early dinner here the first year I lived in Atlanta. It was my first Thanksgiving away from home, and it had the potential to be a truly depressing day. Some other Thanksgiving orphans I had never met heard about my plight through some mutual friends and invited me along for a trip to the Colonnade. The food reminded me a lot of some of my grandmother's dishes, probably due to the overall age of the customers that day more than anything else. Great classic Southern menu items, served by a staff that's friendly and seems like they've been there for decades. It's a comfortable atmosphere and the food only makes it more pleasant. The location could be better; the strip clubs and sex shops nearby make it seem like it's seen better days. However, once you get inside and get some of the corn muffins on your table you'll forget about the neighborhood and enjoy it. Try the peppermint ice cream for dessert, it's a can't miss item. read more

This is a quintessential old south diner. It has food on the menu that would bewilder people from other locals such as Waldorf salad and tomato aspic. My mom would love this place just for the tomato aspic. My husband ordered the fried chicken (which is why we were here to begin with ) with mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole. I ordered the turkey and dressing with salad and Lima beans. Everything was seasoned well and we were happy and content. :blows dust off: This review has been pending for a few months now but I'm getting back in the swing of things. The chicken fried steak was good but could use a tad bit more seasoning for my taste. My mashed taters were perfect as were the pole beans (green beans). By far my favorite part of the meal were the dinner rolls. Carb lovers get here for a taste. The atmospher is pretty laid back and at 37, hubs and I were some of the youngest adults in the room. All other customers were pretty much seasoned or kids dining with family. Went for the fried chicken.. Everything here is textbook and executed well. I'm not one of those who has to stake claim to best fried chicken, wings, bbq, etc...just give me something solid and I'm a fan. After a couple years off from fried chicken...this was a great comeback meal. The 80s style interior reminded of 80s Vegas and/or Florida..kinda weird when you first walk in but the dim lighting and carpeted floors really give this place some character. Plus it was full of older people, but that made it that much more fun for us younger folk. We waited a few minutes to be seated but there was an emergency with an employee. So at the end of our dinner, we were given a free desert for our wait even though we didn't say anything about the wait..can't hate on that. Refused to seat 6 of the 7 expected until entire party present. Normally would shrug it off, but my 85 year old mother was one of the six. She tires easily and can barely walk. The window of opportunity to have dinner out is very narrow. We called the 7th person and told her we'd have to see her another time. Then we were told 3 parties of 6 ahead of us. Escalated to manager who stood firm in the policy. By then other parties waiting were aware and offered to allow my mother to take their spot in line. Getting better service from other diners than the staff? That's rare. By then 45 minutes had passed. My mother was exhausted and unable to manage sitting upright any longer. We went to the Colonnade on a Sunday after church to celebrate a friend's birthday! As we waited on all our party to show up we met others sitting around us that visited this restaurant numerous times. It made out wait very pleasant and we had time to look at the menu. I had the fried chicken (which everyone raved about) and it was delicious!! The Fried chicken comes with two side so I ordered the Mac and cheese and sweet potato soufflé. Both were tasty. I decided that I really wanted some collards as well, so I ordered them as my third side dish. I think my favorite out of the three were the sweet potato soufflé! It was delicious!! My favorite thing about this restaurant is the fact that they have plenty of parking, great food, a lot of places to sit and a great and friendly wait staff! Please note that if you are there with a larger party everyone will need to be present in order for you to be seated. But there was really not that long a wait after our party all showed up. This restaurant is a great place for a gathering with friends or even family. I definitely intend on going back! If you are in Atlanta you should definitely check The Colonnade out. read more

Mmmmm Gooood! We ate here on Thanksgiving 2018 and have been here several times over a period of years. We've always enjoyed our meal. Today we had the turkey and dressing 4-course meal and it was excellent! Choice of soup, choice of salad, turkey and dressing with a choice of two additional sides, and topped off with a choice of dessert. I neglected to take pictures but you'll have to believe me that it was very good. The Colonnade is always busy. They started serving at 11 am today but opened the door for the bar around 10 and would allow you to put your name on the list early. We had a draft beer while we waited. This is where I always take my friends who are visiting from out of town. I always ask the same question - "what do you wanna eat?" and they always respond with "why, some good fried chicken of course." That should give you a clue as to what I always order then. I always get the mixed fried chicken, which comes with some white meat and some dark meat. The flavor is absolutely wonderful and the skin is very crispy. The starter basket of carbs is okay - this usually comes with a sweet bun and cornbread. The sides are meh. My go-tos are mac and cheese and collard greens. My palette tends to ere on the saltier side, so I quite enjoy the collards. The mac and cheese is nothing to really exclaim about, just average. They are usually pretty packed, especially on weekends for both lunch and dinner. Don't be put off by it's location on Cheshire Bridge. It's definitely worth a try.
