Does that look rare to you?
    Danny L.

What am I supposed to say about this place? Every year I come back because everyone always rants and raves about it, and every year I am disappointed again. This year, decided to head over for lunch. I love the atmosphere. Clearly Columbine is a Denver Institution. I like the completely unique setting. Its old, which is fine. I have no problem with the old torn booths or minimal customer service. I actually really enjoy it. I also enjoy the incredible simple salad which basically consisted of a quarter of a head of iceberg lettuce and some ranch dressing. It was actually good, and I enjoyed it. The potato would have been nice with sour cream, but I don't know if that was an option or not. Still, it was good. My problem is with the steak. It was terrible. Not as tough as past years, but I ordered rare and was given a well done steak. This is not the sort of place where I feel comfortable returning my steak, so I ate it, but again, they screwed up. For the record, this is probably my 7th or 8th time eating here over the course of the last 15 years, and they always mess up. Every time. Usually the problem is a tough, stringy steak. Not this time, but I still don't get it. How can they always screw up my meal but everyone loves it here? One more story. About 10 years ago, my son was young and learning to cut his own food. We went to Columbine and were served the toughest steak known to man. I insisted that he cut his steak himself. It took him a long time. I cannot blame him, it took me a long time too. Anyway, from that day forward, anytime my young son asked for help cutting his food, I told him to remember the steak from Columbine. He'd say, "if I could cut that steak, I could cut anything." This place serves such bad steak, it teaches life lessons. No idea how this place gets the reviews it gets. Nostalgia really is carrying this place way above its weight class.

Honestly confused by this place. It doesn't pretend to be anything it's not: no frills, reasonable prices, simple and limited sides, the decor and interior are very aged and in a way that'll never be fully clean. The steak I had was one of the worst from any restaurant I've ever been to. No seasoning at all and undercooked. They do offer multiple sauces, but that shouldn't be how to add flavor to nothing. I took it home, added salt and pepper, and finished cooking it. Amazing toast and the house-made ranch was good.

A solid well run steakhouse that is affordable and friendly on the wallet (*cash only) It's a steakhouse/dive bar place where you walk in and place the order as to what steak dinner you want right when you enter. They have other things on the menu besides steak but, by the looks of it steak is pretty much the only things people get here. Why not? the cheaper cut of steak with sides is $22 and it tops out at around $30. I got the T-bone steak which is a popular choice and it did not disappoint. It comes with a potato and a small salad + toast. Don't expect service or fine dining. However, expect a decent meal in this cramped place. Drinks are priced well as well, nothing fancy though. Come here for good quality affordable steak, not for the view.

Almost rare steak. It was cooked nicely!

We are visiting Denver and stopped in for dinner and it was a great experience! My dad and I both got the porterhouse steak which came with a salad, baked potato and toast. Great service, and great prices for the amount of food you get! You can tell it is popular with locals. Driving by you would not think that this gem is hiding behind a dim lit building and lit up "steak" sign, but don't let that stop you!

Columbine steakhouse has been around for a long time and it's never disappointed me in all the years that I've enjoyed eating. Their food is always top notch. I love their salads their Texas toast and the steaks of course are delicious. We walked in the building nobody said hello to us, until we started seating ourselves. A waitress did come over and ask us what we would like to drink, and we got our drinks ordered. Our food-was ordered and our food soon came out and it was hot and great, but the waitress only came back once to ask us if we wanted another cocktail we told her no thank you and she never came back didn't even take any of our dirty dishes off of our table so we could enjoy the rest of our meal All in all columbine is a great place to go with a group or with just your mate or friend. It is a good time as long as you let it be a good time. We will continue going there as long as they are there for us to enjoy. Thanks For The Read Until Next Time

So fire the leftovers are minimal but the satisfied belly's are maximal lol

Ambiance old but familiar, think family dinner nostalgia. Service 1000 (Gabby was attentive while busy af!) FOOD....no words been to the fanciest of steakhouses in many states but this was the first stop me in my tracks, better than sex meal. It was so simple and flavorful!! I am sold! As a Denver native my wife had tried to bring me here for years. I am so happy I finally caved! 10/10 would recommend!!

No frills steak with no frills service. A Denver staple for over 60 years, this cash only restaurant/bar serves up steaks and a few other options. Food is served quickly. If you don't want it to be too busy, I suggest going on the weekend before 5pm. Steaks were cooked to order and seasoned with a bit of salt and pepper. Sides include a choice of baked potato or fries, Texas toast, and dinner salad. You can't go wrong with a 10 oz NY Strip Steak at $21. If you want to view sports, a few TVs are on the wall and over the bar.

This place has been around for years and it still is top notch. Never disappoints! Great food for such a reasonable price. Simple menu and process: steak, salad, and mashed potato are spectacular. Got the shrimp to start and it was also yummy. The staff was so so friendly! I love the vibe of the old school steakhouse. I will definitely be back!

My parents surprised us with steak sandwiches from Columbine yesterday and they were sure tasty. All of the takeaways arrived in styrofoam boxes, which admittedly isn't great, but I did appreciate how they separated the steak in tinfoil to keep the toast from getting soggy and the veggies from going limp. Although the steak for the sandwiches was the best cut- I think it was sirloin- it was as flavorful and tender and not at all grizzly. Also the hand cut fries were yummy.

I know they've been very cautious, so they had not re-opened for dine in although anybody know if that has changed?

They have reopened for dine in. However, the last couple of times I tried to go, the restaurant was completely closed.

How do they cook the steaks? Are they slow cooked where the entire steak is juicy, or flash cooked where the outside is charred and the middle is still red?

I ordered mines medium and the outside was charred and the inside was pink and warm. I waited about 15 minutes for mines and I was the only one waiting. (Came in the afternoon before rush hour)

The inside of the restaurant had a mid-century modern feel that reminded me of my childhood home. After sitting down and reviewing the menu, my friends decided on the frozen rosé, while I stuck with a Coke since I was driving. The soda hit the spot, but my friends found the frozen rosé a bit bitter and weren't fans. For starters, we highly recommend the garlic bread and pepperoni rolls. The sauces served with them tasted fresh and were packed with flavor. After appetizers, we ordered three pizzas and a Caesar salad. The restaurant got busier after we sat down, and our food took a little over 30 minutes to arrive. When the pizzas finally came out, they were absolutely worth the wait. They were visually appealing, and we couldn't wait to dive in. I ordered the veggie pizza, and it was so good. Our friends got the White Tiger pizza and added prosciutto, while my husband ordered the mushroom pizza with added sausage. It took us a few years to finally try Joy, but I can confidently say they make an awesome pizza in a relaxed, chill atmosphere.

The hostess said let me see what I can do. My wife and I looked at one another because the inside was totally empty with the exception of 2 people at the bar? She led us to the outside deck. She tried putting us on the back rail and it was spitting rain. We asked for a covered table. Her reply was those are reserved. We were the only people out there. I laughed thinking she was joking. I said ok, I'll go online and book a reservation. Oh no was her reply! We don't take same day reservations? In a time where restaurants are struggling. These clowns are doing everything in their power to drive away customers. Usually the pizza is good, however, this time the crust was burned. I actually showed it to the waitress and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away? I was a waiter in my younger days and it wouldn't have been an issue. It would've been remade on the spot. I had to go find our waitress to ask for another round of drinks because she hadn't been to our table in 20 minutes. She was inside talking to the kitchen staff? The second time, we witnessed another man come up the back stairs and seat he and his wife at the table next to us. He was told the hostess would have to seat him. He told his wife he would go let the hostess know. The waitress replied, these are all reserved? He laughed and said there are only two other couples here? They placed him at the bar stool area looking out at the patio. He was flabbergasted. And when he was getting up to leave they moved him to his original table. When we left, I patted his shoulder and told him we saw and could not believe how they treated you! I told him we won't be coming back -

Denver had been baking under a relentless sun all week, but by Tuesday night, the universe repented. A cool breeze moved across the tiny outdoor patio like a formal apology from the atmosphere. The inside of Adrift is a total, unapologetic capitulation to the tiki gods. There is no half-heartedness here. It is a full-throttle environment of tropical greenery, bamboo, and high-proof rum. Naturally, in such surroundings we ordered drinks to stop the psychic bleeding. My eyes landed on a cocktail called The Adrift. The menu warned that it carried a strict limit of two per person, that the ingredients were protected by a non-disclosure agreement, and it featured two tiny skulls drawn next to the name. When a piece of paper warns you that a liquid is a state secret and might compromise your motor skills, it is your duty as a curious mammal to order it. It arrived in a heavy ceramic mug buried under enough foliage to hide a small sniper. It tasted marvelous and dangerously smooth, the sort of beverage that politely informs your frontal lobe that it is no longer in charge of the evening. A coworker ordered a classic Mai Tai, which only had one skull on the menu, a cautious, low-stakes life choice. She took a sip and made the exact face a person makes when they discover their pockets have been picked. Our server, who was hyper-alert to human discomfort, pounced instantly. Instead of hiding behind the ice machine, the bartender actually walked out to our patio table a few minutes later. She explained she had tasted the pour and realized the orange liqueur had been completely left out of the build. She apologized like a real person who had made a real mistake, and fixed it immediately. In a world where most businesses spend millions trying to convince you that their errors are actually your fault, this level of raw, unprompted honesty was impressive. We ordered a small mountain of plates to absorb the alcohol: Hawaiian mac salad, Volcano Fries, Spam musubi, and crab rangoons. This is communal, heavy, satisfying food meant to be stolen off your neighbor's plate while they aren't looking. For the main act, I had the Pirate Smash burger, which hit that strange, perfect note of sweet and spicy without overcomplicating a simple sandwich. There are grander, more expensive dining rooms in Denver where people look very serious and eat tiny portions of expensive foam. But Adrift gives you exactly what you need when adulthood becomes too heavy a burden to carry: large drinks, good grease, a slight breeze, and a room full of people who have temporarily forgotten about their responsibilities.
