#13: Cơm tấm sườn, bì, tàu hũ kỳ
    Lisa N.

Com Tam Sai Gon is consistently one of my favorite spots for broken rice! The food always hits and every friend or family member I have brought here has loved it. I usually order #13: Cơm tấm sườn, bì, tàu hũ kỳ. The meat is perfectly marinated and the fried shrimp roll is soooo crispy! My only tiny critique is that the shredded pork skin can be a hit or miss depending on the day since it is occasionally a little underseasoned, but the rest of the plate definitely makes up for it. Great quality & value imo, and if you stop by during lunch, they also give you a complementary bowl of soup! This is easily one of the best com tam spots in the area and I'll definitely keep coming back.

I saw the banh hoi dish on Yelp and wanted to try it but unfortunately, they were sold out/unavailable. So I just ordered the com tam plate with the shrimp paste on sugarcane, tofu wrapped shrimp cake, a side of pickled veggies and pork chops. I frequent a very popular com tam restaurant nearby and it is my absolute favorite. Com Tam Saigon's pork chop is really good and is a great alternative if you want to dine alone, something quick and a bit cheaper as well. I really liked how big the plate was. It justified the price of the plate. The flavor of the grilled pork chops was tasty and was tender as well. The tofu wrapped shrimp was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I loved the shrimp on sugarcane and it has become one of my favorite Vietnamese side orders over the past few years. I really liked the dish and it can easily feed 2 people. The eatery also accepts cards and tap to pay.

#54: Pork chop with everything. $22.

4.6/5: #54: Pork chop with everything. $22. - The pork chop is outstanding. Thick, juicy, great flavor. - The egg cake is OK; I prefer the version at Com Tam Thieng Huong, which has glass noodles. - The shrimp on sugarcane is good. - The fried shimp cake is too rubbery/flat.

broken rice plate - pork chop, shredded pork, egg cake

Heard about this place from a friend and I'm so glad to have been able to try it! Com Tam Sai Gon is tucked within the food court inside the mall with typical food court set up/ambiance - order at the counter, find a seat, pick up food when they call your number, overall no frills service. We went around lunch time and they had already sold out of a lot of items, including #81 and all the similar vermicelli items, which I was bummed about. However, we ended up getting two broken rice plates to share and they were also super satisfying! The bbq pork chop was really flavorful and tender, and I loved the fried shrimp cake that came with it as well. I would def come back to try the vermicelli plate and would 100% get a broken rice plate again too!

This place has amazing broken rice plates, probably the best I've had so far in the Bay Area. It's located in the food court in the mall. The meats were very juicy and I love the variety in the different sets. The fish sauce was also unique because it had a little bit of chili which gave it a kick. Some of the rice plate came with the savory soup, which complemented everything. I highly recommend this spot, but service can take a bit long when it gets busy so don't expect the food to arrive very quickly.

FOUND A BANDAGE IN MY FOOD FOUND A BANDAGE IN MY FOOD On 02/21/2026, I ordered com tam with pork (sườn) only. The restaurant accidentally added ham (chả trứng), which I did not order. While eating, I found what appeared to be a piece of bandage inside the egg ham. I had already taken a bite before noticing it. This was very disturbing and raised serious food safety concerns. We called the restaurant to report the issue. They apologized and told us we could come back to receive another order. However, they did not offer a refund. Finding a object in food is unacceptable. I hope they review their hygiene and food handling practices to prevent this from happening again. DISGUSTING!!!!!

    17. Pork chop, fried shrimp cake, grilled shrimp on sugar cane on rice with a side of pickled veggies and nuoc cham
    Michelle C.

I ordered their number 17, the pork chop, fried shrimp cake, shrimp on sugar cane on rice with a side of pickled veggies and nuoc cham. The price on the menu is a bit off compared to what they ended up charging you, so expect a small increase once it gets on your bill. I believe it says $17.50 or $16.50 on the menu, but it ended up being $18.11 before tax. I ordered it to go because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish the whole meal in the food court. The food was good and they also offer a cup of jasmine tea with your meal if you ask. Good experience over all!

This is what is left of #12 grill pork. Delicious

Very good food and fair price. They give you lots of meat. I highly recommend this place. The people are friendly.

Stopped by Cơm Tấm Sài Gòn at Grand Century Mall for their #54 . Sườn, Bì, Chả, Tàu Hũ Kỳ, Chạo Tôm, and it was a satisfying and flavorful meal! The BBQ pork chop was tender, juicy, and nicely charred with that perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The shredded pork skin (bì) added great texture, and the egg cake (chả trứng) was light and tasty. The fried shrimp cake (tàu hũ kỳ) and grilled shrimp on sugarcane (chạo tôm) were both crispy and full of flavor, definitely the highlights of the plate. Everything came over a generous portion of broken rice, perfectly cooked and fragrant. Service was quick and friendly, and the food came out hot and fresh. The portions are solid for the price, and you can tell they take care in preparing each component. Overall, a great spot for authentic Vietnamese cơm tấm with all the classic sides. #54 is a great combo if you want to try a bit of everything!

Grilled Boned-in Pork with Broken Rice, Shredded pork skin, Crab Cake and Fish Sauce
    Alan D.

I was with my family and we were not sure what we wanted to eat, so we settled at the Grand Century Mall. Located towards the back from the main entrance, you have many choices to choose from. I wanted broken rice, so I was happy to give this place a try. I give props for the female employee who was working, because I was walking by and she greeted me nicely and asked if I wanted to try some delicious broken rice with pork (in Vietnamese, but it is easier for me to type in English). Knowing that this is what I had in mind, I browsed the menu and settled on this plate. Broken Rice with Pork, shredded pork skin and Crab Cake: My favorite all time dish, but usually I prefer just grilled pork without the bone. However, it is more flavorful with the bone. The pork was grilled nicely and not dry. The pork skin is my favorite. I love the texture and how it tastes. The rice was cooked nicely and the crab cake was good. Overall, not a bad experience and fairly price. May come back here again.

Sườn Bò, Tàu Hủ Ky (BBQ Beef Rib, Fried Shrimp Cake)

Final Thoughts: 4.20/5 Always down for classic Vietnamese food. Honestly, I was a little skeptical of this place as it is in a food court. They usually don't have the best reputation, but I have heard through the grapevine that this place is quite good. I'm also usually willing to try anything once, so my friends and I came here for dinner today. Food: Bánh Hỏi Thịt Nướng, Chả Giò, Chạo Tôm (BBQ Pork w/ Rice Vermicelli, Egg roll, Grilled Shrimp on Sugarcane) **Allergy warning: Contains PEANUTS as a garnish** : 4.3/5 This plate has all the items you would find on a typical cơm tấm dish, but they provide bánh hỏi (woven rice vermicelli) instead. Definitely not the typical combination that I eat, because bánh hỏi is better known to be eaten with something like heo quay (crispy roasted pork belly). Quite satisfactory though. The portion size is smaller/less than what I'm used to, but it's a big enough portion to be eaten by two people or divided into multiple meals. The vermicelli was a good texture for me - it was just slightly over al dente. Protein wise hmmm, I will leave it up to your discretion, but what's provided is about ¾ cup of BBQ pork, 1 eggroll, and 2 grilled shrimp on sugarcane pieces. If y'all compare this to a fairly popular and well-known place like Cơm Tấm Thiên Hương, there's a significant and quite noticeable difference. Flavor wise - optimal. The BBQ pork was seasoned well and was my favorite item on the dish. Good charring and smokiness with a lovely balance of sweet and salty. Some pieces were just 90% fat, so that was not the most desirable to see. The grilled shrimp on sugarcane was average. The eggroll was probably my least favorite - It was crispy and it was seasoned well, but I have preferences for other eggrolls that I've tried. Some texture was added in from the peanut garnish, as well. Cơm Tấm Sườn Bò, Tàu Hủ Ky (BBQ Beef Rib, Fried Shrimp Cake): 4.3/5 Pretty standard plate of broken rice with the proteins, veggies, pickled radish, and fish sauce. If you have a preference for a dryer rice grain, you'll probably enjoy the rice made here. This texture of the rice is just ever so slightly more on the dry side. BBQ pork was very tender, but had some bite/chew to it. Flavor was good - nicely seasoned. Portion sizes hmm given that only 2 pieces are provided, the pieces are quite small compared to other places. The fried shrimp cake has a nice crunch to it. Fish sauce was quite good. The color was nice/deep and consistency was good. There was just the right balance of fish sauce, sugar, lemon juice, and chili for me - chefs kiss. Side notes: - Aesthetic wise for both plates were alright. I feel like they kind of tried, but it just needs some improvements and minor fine tuning with the plating. The plate itself does help because of the green color and texturing on the plate. - Allergy warnings on the menu were not noticeable, if even provided. Not ideal here. --------- Quality: Optimal Their veggies looked very fresh and green and were very crispy. Herbs also looked fresh, even for something that's growing in this winter air. Lovely aroma and nice flavor. The meats seemed average - They were tender enough to just bite through. Price: Expensive Ultimately, I do believe the pricing for this place is quite expensive. We paid about $20 for a plate. Not to say that an average plate isn't this price, but multiple items are being factored in here. Out of all the places that I've been to, I think the serving size for this place most closely represents a plate that I would find in Vietnam. This means that it's smaller and more manageable for someone with an appetite like mine. Service: Optimal The two people that helped us were very sweet and patient with us. Knowing me, I probably should've looked at the menu beforehand, but neglected to do so anyways. We stood there trying to choose our plates and the chị that took our order waited there patiently. A question I asked was if they accepted card/apple pay. The answer was "yes", but the person who typically works that system stepped out and was said to be back within x minutes. We had cash, so it wasn't a concern for us, but she allowed us to eat first and pay with our preference of payment type afterwards. The chị that helped process our payment was also very sweet. Overall, very pleasant experience for me. Ambiance: Optimal Grand Century was pretty quiet this Friday night. It's quiet in general, but the food court was pretty empty. I observed 3-4 other tables with us included. Not a concern because seating isn't an issue at this time. Nothing too significant to note here. Location/Parking: Optimal Again, the location is in the food court of Grand Century. It seems to be right in the middle of the string of food places in the food court. Parking shouldn't be an issue because of the size of this plaza. Unless there's an event going on for the Lunar New Year or night market or something, parking shouldn't be a concern.

This is an okay spot to satisfy your cravings. Everything was mid. Only went here because the usual well known spot was so crowded. Portions were nice but not my go-to for Com Tam. My rice was uneven in texture - some dry some squishy. The bbq marinade on the meat wasn't the flavor I normally have which is like kbbq galbi flavor. This one was similar to the red Vietnamese beef jerky which is more on the sweeter side. It wasn't bad, I just wasn't expecting that flavor profile. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the fried shrimp cake! And the vibe of a small food court in a mall is cool, like you transported to Vietnam for a moment! Visit this food court for the vibes and support locals!

Best viet broken rice I have had in San Jose. It's even better than many spots in my local neighbourhood back in Vietnam. My husband and I are so happy we stumbled upon this place. Broken rice is perfect texture, pork chop is the fattier cut that shines through for this type of dish. Meat is not dry after having cooled down and well marinated for our taste. The shredded pork skin looks and tastes like they made their own, not the type ppl buy in bulk like in other restaurants. Check it out everyone. Please support them so we can all have more options for authentic Viet restaurants .

Between Saigon and Hanoi, I went on a full-blown bánh cuốn quest, trying different spots almost daily. Street stalls, little hole-in-the-wall shops, famous spots--you name it. At some point I stopped being a tourist and became a rice-roll inspector. So yeah... my standards are unfortunately very high now. The best bánh cuốn I had in Vietnam was paper thin and almost translucent, with this delicate chew that somehow breaks apart and melts in your mouth. That's the texture I'm chasing. Coming back here, the rice sheets were noticeably thicker and didn't have that same delicate texture. They also weren't as fresh and warm as I remembered, which makes a huge difference with bánh cuốn. This is one of those dishes that's at its best when the sheets are freshly steamed and hit your table warm. The meat filling was also underwhelming and not nearly as flavorful or savory as another bánh cuốn spot I've had in San Jose. With a dish this simple, there's nowhere to hide--the rice sheet, filling, freshness and nước mám chấm (fish sauce) all have to work together. It's certainly not bad, and I can understand why people enjoy it. But after eating my way through Saigon and Hanoi in pursuit of the perfect bánh cuốn, this one is kinda meh for me now. My old review gave this place 4 stars. Vietnam ruined me.

We've probably eaten here 50+ times with family and friends, and one thing I can say is that they are 100% consistent. We've never had a bad meal here. You can order individual dishes or share family-style, which makes it especially easy when coming with a group. It's very casual, family-friendly, quick, and straightforward--nothing fancy and probably not where I'd choose for a date night. But for a dependable meal with family or friends, it's a great spot. It tasted more heavily seasoned than deeply developed, so experienced bún bò Huế fans may find it underwhelming. The meat was also not as tender as I would have liked, and the congealed blood--usually my favorite part--was overcooked and dry rather than smooth and tender. (this is in reference to the dish Banh Cuon Tay Ho Dac Biet) Bahn Beo were good sizes and nicely steamed. I wish there was a bit more sauce because I was running out at the end. Toppings are appropriately sized as well Personal take, I didn't really enjoy the fried pork rind topping as much and would have liked more shrimp, but once again, personal preference. I didn't quite enjoy the Hu Tieu, but my friend liked the soup! It's a little too plain for me. I do love the feeling and texture of eating thick, round rice noodles. The banh xeo that came on the side was hard to crunch through, I felt like it was probably sitting on the side for a while. Vibes were nice -- there's a call button to ask for service. Menu has a lot of items as well (e.g. pho, rice plates, etc), so there's something for everyone if you come with a big group! Our server was also really attentive and sweet -- he came by and asked if we wanted additional dishes/bowls since we were sharing food!

I ordered their egg rolls and banh beo for catering which came with lots of fresh herbs/lettuce, fish sauce, and other toppings. Pricing was very affordable as well for the quality. I have also frequently gone into their store to enjoy a nice plate of com tam or bun thit nuong which has always been great. They provide their nuoc mam/fish sauce on the table and always are attentive. Restaurant is large and can accommodate a bunch of tables. Parking is also on a big plaza so didn't have trouble parking.

It's not outstanding, but it's definitely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. As soon as I sat down, I hadn't even had a chance to look through the whole menu before the server kept touching my shoulder and repeatedly pressured me to order. I found it very rude and uncomfortable because I really don't like strangers touching me. The older lady did it to everyone in our table, and she didn't seem to realize she was making our entire group uncomfortable, and it affected our whole dining experience. So, would I come back? Absolutely not. One visit was more than enough. I'm not willing to deal with that kind of pushy service again.
