This has got to be the cheapest restaurant I have ever been that has great food!!! They use a microwave and all to heat up some of the smaller stuff, but it doesn't hinder the taste of the food one bit. For 4.99 you can get a bowl of pho OR a rice combo that comes with a main entree and soup.. Plenty for one person and not to mention that those entree and soup changes everyday. So, this store is behind Tastea and it's very well hidden! It took me a long 20 minutes to find the place, although it might be a little smelly walking up the stairs; entering the store was definitely worth it! The com Phan is just ok. Why I gave them two stars because they are a typical Viet scandalous place. They display and advertise com phan as $4.99, but didn't say or display in fine print that it is $1.00 extra if you order yours Togo. I ordered 3 com phans for my family. They charged me $20 for 3. --- $1.00 extra for each Togo that I ordered so I ordered 3. That will be $3 extra plus $2 for tax totaling $20. I don't get these places where they don't accept debit/credit, but Cash only and charges you tax. I know $20 is a small sum for a family dinner, but I hate when they don't tell you, but charged you something that you don't know about. read more

All I have to say about this restaurant is wow... The server was really charismatic and made me feel like I was receiving a home cooked meal and the food itself was delicious. Their food is fresh-cooked so you get to wait a little bit longer than other places but that's fine to me. I personally think their food is authentic. It was a quiet and very clean place. The food was so good and served by sincere and friendly Vietnamese waiters so that we felt we ate meals in our family in Vietnam. I normally like Com Viet because the location is close to my house and the price is good. From the outside, it does not seem to be the most sanity place. The restaurant is located on a second place in the building that also has a market. If you enter from the outside by the parking stairs, sometimes you can see trash thrown and odor. They switched their location inside and there are other food stalls. I was really disappointed with my last visit. I ordered several com Phan items and a catfish bamboo hot pot over the phone and came to pick up. They did not have the bamboo and said they were out, this was about lunch time. They are pretty slick with rounding the price up so I think it's not very honest, price discrepancy between what advertised and what's charged. The braised catfish has a lot of fish sauce and a layer of fats. They gave me cold food because they said you're going to heat it when you get home anyways. The sweet and sour soup they gave as a part of com Phan did not have any fish. I used to like this place but the quality has gone down. Good quality ingredients (the herbs and vegetables were so fresh) and the dishes were very tasty, above average compares to other Vietnamese restaurants. Some dishes were unique, hard to find elsewhere! The only thing I didn't care for is the decor of the restaurant. It's very rustic, basically it's a hole in the wall. This place is kinda hard to find. It is inside Saigon Market and on the second floor. To get to it, you have to go inside the market, up the stairs, bypassing many shops/offices along the the way. The dining room is long and narrow with room for only one row of tables. The place looks clean, relax and cozy. Since the prices are so low, I ordered a couple of items on the menu to check them out and was pleasantly surprised. The "Bun cha Hanoi", at $4.99, was good and the "Bot chien trung", at $3.99, was excellent. But what I liked most about the place were the people working there who were very friendly and accommodating. I came back another time and tried the "Com phan 3 mon", and at $4.99, it was really good, food and service. Overall, I am very satisfied with the food and especially the service of this place, regardless of their low price. Highly recommended. So, if you want to give this place a try (please, not on your first date), first curb your enthusiasm, knock your expectations down a notch or two, and remember that it is what we would call it in Vietnamese, "Quan com binh dan", or roughly in English, "Affordable food shop" or "Restaurant for the common man", and so, do not expected 5-star food and service, then you will love it. read more
