We were nearby in the area and needed something quick to eat. We didn't really have the time to read reviews and so my relative said, let's just eat here. Big mistake. We were here on a weekday middle of the lunch hour. There were two other tables occupied. That was a sign to walk out, but we didn't. We ordered a couple of noodle soup dishes, and there was nothing special about them. We could not even finish them because the broth had no depth or density. The dish with duck had a lot of fat on it, and barely any meat. For my beef noodle soup, the beef slices were questionable and the blackish color, perhaps over boiled was off putting. I usually don't waste food, but sadly, we had to. When the condiment jars and serving spoons are dirty and sticky to the touch, that's one indicator not to return. The restaurant is clean and organized. I came to support them since they have been around for a long time. I hope they can survive the competition from many newer restaurants that offer better quality food at similar prices. The food was ok but they were not worth $16, compared to other restaurants. Everything was ok until we received the bill. We ordered 4 dishes and 1 drink, and the total came to $81. After leaving a $9 tip, I paid $90. My husband felt something wasn't right, so we came back to clarify the charges. The issue wasn't the money. It was how the staff handled our questions. When we asked for clarification on the itemized prices, both of staff openly admitted that the prices listed on the menu were NOT accurate. They "randomly" added an extra $1-$2 to ALL dishes when ringing them up. On top of that, there was also an incorrect item on our bill. If prices have changed, the restaurant should clearly inform customers by updating the menu, posting a note, or verbally letting customers know before ordering. After argument, one staff acknowledged the mistake and refunded us $12. What disappointed me most was the lack of transparency and professionalism. I honestly don't understand all the great reviews from Yelp Elites. Maybe some customers don't mind paying extra $$ charges. But I do expect the bill to match the menu! My husband had the bun cha Ha Noi and it was flavorful. I had the bun thit nuong cha gio. The thit nuong was so delicious but unfortunately the eggrolls were raw in the center. We brought it up the owner or the gentleman in the front and he automatically offered to refund our money or if we wanted something else in place of it. I went to Binh Minh restaurant with my friend a couple of weeks ago. We ordered 2 bowls of Bun Rieu and 1 pot of hot tea. The older male server brought out the tea pot and 2 cups. We noticed there was stained inside the cups, and I asked the server to change to other cups. The server gave me a nasty look, and he made a comment that only the tea stained on the cups. He took the cups and walked behind the counter, and used a napkin to clean the stained. I won't go back there again because of his attitude and the dirty dishes that they have. read more

If you're in the mood for noodle soup, Binh Minh is a great choice! They have two whole pages dedicated to different noodle soups plus several extra pages dedicated to other Vietnamese dishes. I tried #47, which was a rice noodle with bamboo shoots and fried fish cake. The broth was very flavorful and I loved how savory the fish cake was. My mom and I came here on a Sat morning around 10:30am. When we arrived, there were two men at another table. We seated ourselves and grabbed two menus. Menu is very extensive. My mom ordered the Bun Bun and I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. Service was fine - 2 men working the front, taking orders and clearing tables. My Mom said the Bun Bun was great and not very many restaurants in Little Saigon offers this dish. I think there's only one size and her bowl was big. She took 2/3 of it home, even asking them to put less noodles. The BBH had tons of ingredients but you definitely need to add the vegetables, lime and purple fish paste. This Vietnamese restaurant is located on the corner of brookhurst and Westminster next to the 99 cent store. They have a couple tables outside spaced out for social distancing. Posted operating hours are from 9am - 8pm and closed on Wednesdays. First off, I have to say all their soup dishes are so flavorful and delicious. I know it's August and 80 degrees out but we are soup lovers. Everything tasted homemade and after speaking with the owners, they told me they have been running the family owned business for 22 years. My daughter said the egg rolls were the "best ever". She is 7 so take it for what it's worth. The table next to us ordered bun bo hue and it looked and smelled so good. I will definitely have to try it next time. A small Vietnamese restaurant, located on the corner of Westminster and Brookhurst next to the 99 Cents Only Store, primarily known for their Bun Rieu and Banh Tom. This restaurant showcases several varieties of bun (rice vermicelli noodle) dishes in both salad and soup varieties, ranging in price between $5.75 to $6.95. Bun rieu, $5.75, is a rice vermicelli soup in tomato broth and topped with fresh water crab. Other ingredients include water spinach stems, spearmint, perilla leaves, annatto seeds, vegetarian sausage, bean sprouts and tamarind paste. It is a rich, complex soup dish that is delicious and said to be nutritious because of all the natural ingredients that go into making the soup. I thoroughly enjoyed the tomato and crab infused broth, the marriage of flavors and textures. Bun rieu is high on my list of dishes to try again. TIP: try the bun rieu with dau (fried tofu), huyet (congealed pork blood) or oc (cooked sea snails) for $0.75 more each or ask to combine them all like I did for a delicious, hearty soup. And do not forget to add the bean sprouts and garnishes. Bun Tom Bo Nuong (rice vermicelli with charbroiled shrimp and beef), $6.75, is another great option here and nice alternative to soup. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the shrimp was delicately seasoned and the beef was tender and well marinated. Banh Tom Co Ngu (deep fried shrimp and yam), $6.00, was another tasty new dish for me that I would highly recommend others to try if you prepare it correctly. Congealed together from the batter in which they were fried, the shrimp was plump and juicy, the yam shoestring fries were perfect: golden crispy and firm, but moist inside once you bit into it. TIP: these are meant to be lettuce wraps! Be sure to wrap the banh tom inside with lettuce and generously dunk them into the dipping fish sauce and then squeeze a few drops of Siracha sauce on them. This will certainly amp the flavor and give an additional crunchy texture to the dish. Beverages include coffee, milkshakes, smoothies and juices. Food is inexpensive and good enough, in my opinion, to hold its own as a nice alternative to the dishes offered at its very popular neighboring restaurants in the same plaza. He recommended some sort of pork soup, but I prefer to stay away from pork, so I ordered a bowl with grilled beef and egg rolls. I also had a Thai Iced Tea. The food was brought out - Chad had a deconstructed soup, so he was brought all the components in separate bowls. Mine was just in one big bowl. I was a bit confused, because mine was not a soup. There was a small bowl of broth brought out, but we weren't sure if that was Chad's, or mine. Chad let me have some of it though. The food was great! The noodles had a great flavor, the beef was very lean and seasoned well, the egg rolls were deep fried and delicious. I would definitely eat here again! Prices were about $7 for a meal, which is beyond reasonable. The service is terrible, so don't come expecting much. The man seated us, took our order, brought our food, and never returned. A few days ago, fellow yelper Christine D gave me a bun rieu suggestion, so today, I went and tried it out. I'd been to this strip mall before and never realized that this little place would have good bun rieu. After all, there were thousands of these places dotted all around Westminster and without suggestions, I'm completely lost around that area. Thank god there were only 2 bun rieus on the menu. I ordered the bun rieu oc (#12) while hubby ordered the #25 (bun cha ca thi la) which looked good in the photo on the menu. I also got an order of spring rolls. Both noodle soups arrived piping hot along with a huge plate of herbs including shiso, rau muong (shredded ong choy), mint, cilantro and shredded lettuce. My bun rieu had ground crab roe instead of the usual huge ball of it. I would've preferred it in a ball because I don't usually finish all my noodles and the ground crab roe was dispersed throughout the soup making it hard to eat the roe. However, the flavor was awesome. A small dish of shrimp paste is served alongside so you can add to your soup if you wish. I used all of it. The 'oc' (escargot) had good texture unlike that at Quan Bun Ban Mai where bun rieu is supposedly their specialty. (QBBM does not use MSG though). Hubby's #26 was a bowl of vermecelli noodles with fish cakes, loofah and was heavily infused with dill. VERY aromatic and flavorful. If you're not a dill fan, stay away from this dish. It's extremely strong. The spring rolls were also good and were wrapped using the traditional rice paper wrapper and not the lumpia, or Chinese spring roll wrapper. The restaurant is comfortable and new inside. It's not one of those holes in the wall, dirty places with sticky tables. They do use some MSG though as I can feel it on my tongue. read more

This is my go to place for bun rieu. I decided last week to eat bun bun, a northern Vietnamese dish that my mother makes regularly for us. That's her specialty dish. Since the quarantine, we haven't had a chance to enjoy her cooking, so I decided to order this dish for the first time last week. Wow, it's delicious and reminds me of my mom's cooking. So what's this dish? It's not as popular as pho or bun bo hue, but to me it's one of my favorite. The broth is made from pork ribs and it has turmeric in it. It's unique because turmeric comes from India via the spice trade, but that route is in the South. How it ended up in the north, I have no idea. According to the owner here, he said that this dish is found only in the small villages in Northern Vietnam. At the end of the day, whatever is left over would be dumped together to create this soup dish. So there's bac ha, du du (papaya), green banana, topped with tia to and green onions. It's really a dish that combined leftovers of other dishes. Somehow turmeric made it into this mixture as well. Traditionally, the vermicelli noodles are served separately, and it comes only with the soup and you're supposed to add the vermicelli in as you eat. This was done because pork is expensive and vermicelli is less and by adding in the vermicelli as you go along, you will get more full and you don't waste as much broth. Therefore, the poor villagers can serve an entire family with just one bowl of bun bun soup. Anyway, I digress but I love this dish. If you come here next time, try this dish and let me know what you think. If you want to try this dish, this is the only restaurant that I know that serves this dish. Every Binh Minh I've ever encountered (#1) has been a banh mi shop, so when I had the chance to dine in an actual restaurant I was stoked. But the reality is there will always be a Binh Minh of some kind in any decently populated Vietnamese community and trust that this Binh Minh is as solid as they come. Kind of like a good diner, they've got a solid hand in all sorts of Vietnamese classics. (#2) Their Bun Cha Hanoi is very akin to the real deal back in Vietnam, albeit with a fancier presentation and good portion. It sounds crazy, but I'll vouch for any of their rice (com) + meat dishes from com suon to com tam bi combo. In terms of noodle soups, their Bun Rieu is a house favorite. The crabby bits simmering in the tomato broth is well balanced with their abundance of noodles. It reeks of homemade quality and is a great dish to enjoy during the colder months (#3). While it's not the greatest I've ever had, their Bun Bo Hue is still a very good choice as it's littered with blood cubes, tender slices of of beef, and a killer broth. The spice is definitely there. They're known for their deep fried shrimp and yam for a good reason, they're perfectly crisp and delicious. The egg rolls were very nice, especially when wrapped in the lettuce with garnishes. The hu tieu was by far my favorite from the entrees, the broth was light and crisp unlike some places where it is oily or heavy. The bun bo hue was sub par, it was very sweet and gentle.
