first off, kudos to Yelp-ers for their amazingly accurate and honest ratings. It was the determinant that sent me to Computer City. After Apple Store chaos and told mac perfectly fine, i was still having freezes, beachballs etc. Took it over to CC. Kevin was terrific. Spent time, explained things and knew right off the bat it issue was bad HD. Kevin ran complete diagnostics which confirmed this and suggested to replace with solid state drive. His price for everything seemed fair. I gave him the go and within 24 hours had my mac back, data reloaded. and it was humming like a speed demon. Two weeks later, everything still A-OK. My Macbook Pro (mid-2012) was having a lot of problems for the past year or so I'd say. It often froze and shut down, and if I barely tapped the side of my computer, it would glitch out and turn itself off. I had previously taken it into Apple about six months ago and after leaving it there for a couple days of diagnostic testing, they said that there was nothing wrong with my computer. Of course. Just a couple weeks ago the problems got excessively worse and my computer wouldn't even turn on anymore. I took it here and Kevin was really helpful. All my computer needed was a RAM replacement and for $120 (for 8 GB), I didn't think that was too much to pay when you compare it to how much a brand new Macbook would cost. What a great find! The reviews don't lie. Kevin and Glen go out of their way to be helpful and make sure you get what you need. I had my keyboard and hard drive replaced on my 2010 MacBook Pro. They had it ready for me within one business day and charged me a very fair price (less than the UCLA bookstore--and they were much more competent). I had an issue upgrading to Mavericks a few weeks later (I know I'm not alone on the Mavericks thing--Apple, why do you keep pestering me to upgrade if so many people are having problems with it?). I took it back in and Kevin had it functioning within a day. He said he'd do it for free as part of the service I had done two weeks before, but I knew this hadn't been their fault, so I forced him to let me pay at least a discounted price. It all started when my cousin accidentally sat on my laptop (I know right?). The LCD screen of my HP was cracked so I decided to come here to have them install the new LCD screen I had ordered and I am extremely satisfied! I came in at around 1:00 pm today and was told my laptop should be finished by 3:30 pm. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the call to pick up my laptop 30 minutes early! So I did something really stupid and spilled hot chocolate all over my laptop keyboard and trackpad, and FREAKED out. As I tipped it over and dabbed at it with a towel I frantically looked up computer repair places on my phone, thinking I could take it in right away and all would (hopefully) be well. I called Computer City Repairs and Kevin answered, and I told him what happened and he told me to immediately take out the battery, open the laptop all the way, and let it dry upside down for 24 hours before taking it to them. This is probably the one thing that saved my laptop from certain doom! The place is a little hard to find, on the second floor above a grocery store right next to 7-11, and I couldn't even see it from Westwood Blvd. So I called and Kevin was nice enough to come downstairs into the 7-11 parking lot and show me where I could park, around the corner in the little alley, and showed me up the back stairs. That right there is already superior customer service! So I dropped off my laptop and Kevin said they'd give it a thorough cleaning and make sure it was all dry before trying to see if it still worked. Two days later I got a call saying everything was fine! I was so incredibly happy, and even more pleased that it was done so quickly! Altogether, for cleaning and diagnostics and making sure everything worked, it was only $140. Better than getting a new laptop! I picked it up a few days after it was ready because I didn't have time earlier, took it home, and unfortunately as soon as I opened it up, discovered the space bar was still stuck :( So I called them up and took it back right away, and the guy in the cute panda hat (I forgot your name, sorry!) who turned out to be the one who originally cleaned my laptop (and did a really good job! other than the space bar, but that's my fault for spilling on it in the first place....) was there and he cleaned it right away for me, took about three minutes tops. All better! To make a long story short, the people who work here are awesome and really really nice, and the prices are WAY more reasonable than other places I've checked, and you even have a 30 day warranty in case something wasn't fixed properly. I hope I never hurt my laptop again and have to go back, but I'm glad these guys are there just in case. read more

I took it back to Best Buy and they told me they would need to send my machine to Kentucky and that the repair could take 6-8 weeks! I took it in and spoke with Kevin who was EXTREMELY hospitable and personable and knowledgeable and helpful in calming me down in possibly losing my data, and the slowness of my computer. I have used Computer City Repairs twice now over the last four months. My Dell laptop has taken a beating from me--once I broke the connector for the power cord (inside the laptop, broke off a prong) and once I dropped the laptop off the edge of the couch and "shattered" (digitally) the screen. The first time, the pricing was fair, service very fast, and everything was exactly as they promised. The laptop was ready when they said, they called to let me know what the final price/problem would be when they said they would. Simple and reliable. The second time--absolutely the same. They called when they promised, fixed the laptop lightning-fast, and charged a very fair price (the second time was actually cheaper than I expected, given the extent of what I broke when I dropped it.) I am VERY happy with the service, the pricing, and the overall experience with this business. I HATE having to spend money to fix things I break but I'll tell you, these guys are fair, honest, reliable and don't make you feel stupid when you--for example--dump your laptop sideways off the side of the couch. I will say it can be tricky to find the first time, it's almost at the corner near the 7-11 in a walk-up, so if you can find street parking don't bother paying for much more than a few minutes on the meter. These guys know what they are doing and they are courteous. They will diagnose the problem and get your information, even give you an estimate within a few short minutes. Highly recommend and based on how hard I work my electronics, I expect to come back here again. My computer was freezing a lot and I couldn't figure out the problem. I thought it might be hardware related, so I took it to Computer City after seeing the yelp reviews. What I really liked is that Kevin said I could leave the computer there and they'd try and diagnose the problem FOR NO CHARGE. I really thought I'd have to pay them something to even look at it. Kevin uncovered a problem with the hard drive, and quoted me a price (180, including the new drive) to replace it -- which included transferring the data from the old drive and reinstalling Windows. I talked to a computer-savvy friend of mine who told me Kevin's price for this service was quite good. So I agreed to have him replace the drive. I was able to get the computer back the next day. Afterwards, the computer ran much better, but I was still getting some freezing. I told Kevin, and he informed me there was a 30 day warranty on the service. So if I wanted, I could've just had them uninstall the new drive and gotten my money back. I really liked that about Computer City. The big reason I'm giving Computer City 4 stars instead of 5 is that I had a bit of difficulty communicating with them at certain points. All my data was supposed to be transferred but I couldn't find some of it, so I emailed Computer City. I didn't hear back for a while, so I called, and Kevin apologized for not emailing back (he'd been very busy) and said he'd figure out the location of the data and be in touch. But I never heard back from him. A week later I emailed again to check in and they emailed back right away and offered to find the data if I could bring in my computer and the old hard drive. (Which is a bit of a pain in itself.) Anyway, my overall impression is the Computer City guys seem very nice, and offer prompt service at good prices. I don't get the sense they're trying to gouge you at all. So if you're in the area and need a computer repair, I'd give them a shot. read more

Had a 2008 13" white Macbook with a malfunctioning screen. Took it to two other places (Apple Store and an official apple repair spot); both wanted over $300 to fix it, but without giving me reassurance that they knew the exact problem. Koorosh at Computer City Repairs took my computer, tested the different possibly solutions, and determined what was the problem (needed a replacement LCD panel). While I normally don't leave reviews, I had to this time as this business is exceptionally good. When I tired to clean my Macbook Pro and inadvertently caused a major hardware meltdown that stopped the computer from even turning on I searched the Los Angeles area for the best repair shop. I also knew my computer needed an repair shop that can solder computer circuitry and that quickly narrowed down the number of repairs shops to two. Based on the outstanding reviews of Computer City Repairs and the good conversation I had with Kevin I decided to go with them for the repair. I was nervous as I know the computer repair industry can be shady and full of con artists so I hoped all the other reviewers were real and correct. They were - Computer City Repair was unbelievable and did an absolutely outstanding job. They successfully performed an incredibly difficult repair that would have cost more than double if I had taken it to an Apple Store. I'm actually using the Macbook Pro now and it's working perfectly once again. Computer City Repair never gave up on my computer even though they had to order a number of parts and investigate in-order to find the actual cause of the hardware failure. Kevin kept me updated on a regular basis by phone and email and I greatly appreciated his professionalism. If you're looking for the best repair shop in town that is also honest, trustworthy and professional then you've found it at Computer City Repairs. Simple and fast. I came here after a nearby place quoted me $700 for data retrieval from a damaged hard drive. I wanted a second opinion, Computer City repairs quoted me $45 which seemed too good to be true but a day later I picked up my hard drive with a CD of all the old information that I thought I had lost forever. I've had an HP laptop for about 1.5 years, and it's had several random complete freezes per day, a really really loud fan, and overheating problems (it's get up to 80 degrees while just surfing the web).
