You are served an entire fish, enough for two or three people. You're given a small tortilla onto which you fill your Snook by the forkful. A little lime, the onion concoction and perhaps cucumber and red onion rings are the only other things you'll need for your free fall into culinary heaven. If you love seafood and have never tasted Snook (theirs comes from Matzalan, although it is also a Florida favorite) you owe yourself a visit to this magical establishment just for you. Fish tacos - some of the best I've ever had. Marlin tacos weren't my thing, have a pretty strong taste, but my hubby loved them. Be very careful with the salsa that they serve with chips, it's insanely spicy! Snook - their specialty fish, takes about 30mins to make so order right away. FOOD REVIEW: Amazing SNOOK fish that is just as good here as at the Inglewood location. We got the 1.5 Kilo version that can feed 3 or 4 hungry folks. Get a couple of side orders of the rice as that goes with it quite well. That's all you really need as the Snook if very unique, hard to cook, and probably can't be found elsewhere in Southern California. Comes with a bowl of carmelized onions and cucumbers but the fish is really the star. Watch out for the bones -- you may get a few. They have alot of shimp dishes and we tried the one with a "special" sauce that was very tasty. You have to ask them to clean the shrimp first -- otherwise they will come with the heads on and it's an unpleasant task. Since the Snook takes 30 minutes, order a shrimp dish or two to keep the table happy. SERVICE REVIEW: I have to admit like many of the reviews on here I was not happy with the service when I first came here about a month after it opened. HOWEVER -- our party of four went last night and the whole attitude of the place has changed. It's like they read all the Yelp reviews! Our server was the sister of the owner and she was quite attentive -- happy to give us recommendations, keeping the beer flowing, and providing us with whatever we needed. OMG you guys! Sooooo good. Came here late on a Sunday afternoon. The salsa was a surprising combination of lime and chiles, zingy and spicy. The tostaditos featured a different taste in every bite, fresh and delicious and delightful. The campechana was tender and the "make it yourself" combination of lime, Tapatio and catchup (try it before you judge it) allowed for each if us to find our own bliss. The pescado zaraneado was something else entirely. A grilled snook with a touch of salt accompanied by sautéed onions and cucumber, simple and delicious. While I mostly drop in to the Inglewood location this Culver City spot sits closer to my work place. The menu and set up is the same and the food is pretty consistent as well. The dining area is well set up and chic gives for great ambiance and decor and set the mood for a date night. I particularly prefer this place over the Inglewood location as it's better run in the customer service and time of service as well. Not sure if it's due to understaffing or just the difference in the two places are ran. Either way the food is just as delicious prepared with fresh quality seafood. I would definitely recommend it to any seafood lover especially for those ceviche lovers. Plenty of conveniently located parking as well. Overall a great dining experience! read more

We went family style on everything and I'll separate by what we liked and not! Good: Pescado Zarandeado- grilled snook fish w / salt & house sauce. It comes in either a Kilo size or Kilo and a half... yeah I had to google that too! It's about 2.2 lbs. Camarones culichis- shrimp with jalapeño, cheese and sour cream. Not spicy at all and comes with rice and cucumbers Camarones al mojo de ajo- shrimp cooked in butter and garlic Not great: Ceviche Rojo de Camarones- it was offered as both cooked or raw and they never asked... brought us the raw which no one else in my family would touch. We didn't realize we had the option until now! Campechana- like a ceviche with shrimp, octopus, oyster and crab... except it was Krab, there was only 1 oyster, the octopus was small and chewy and loaded with cheaper shrimp. I definitely don't recommend this one For the service, it's like they'd never even eaten in a restaurant before. They had no concept of what they were doing or how things are done to multitask or anticipate needs. I joined my party a few min late and after 15 min, still no waitress, so we had to walk over to the hostess to get her attention. There was only 1 other party there at the time and it did get more crowded but I don't think it would have made a difference. Our waitress was new and had no idea what was on the menu. She never brought us more water, we had the food and no plates (another table had plates and no food), we asked for a knife to cut the fish and some extra bowls to try some soup, both never came. When you ask for to-go boxes, that should signify you need the check... nope, had to ask after finding someone 10 min later. I had to ask 3x for a bag for the to-go food and we finally walked to the kitchen to ask and got it. I mean the service was painful. They really need some major major training. read more

Although they are packed and underestimated the amount of customers they are getting during lunch....their service has been top notch. The second waitress came from the Inglewood location as an emergency because they underestimated the number of guests they'd get. They had two servers working over a dozen tables and the front and as check-out, the day before when I stopped in for lunch; there was only one working the ENTIRE floor....BUT they still manage to refill our water, bring more chips, and clear out our plates and provide new ones without us asking. I don't think I saw them take a breath the entire time. I also noticed they had to refill the stock with fresh seafood. At least I know for sure the food is fresh and made to order. The food was VERY flavorful and authentic with big portions. Really enjoyed the Cerviche, garlic butter shrimp, and the Zarandeado. If you want the Zanandeado, call ahead as it takes 45 minutes. And as a friend informed me that if it takes less than 45 minutes, it's not authentic. When the 2lb fish arrived 45 minutes later....OMG was it delicious. Good price, good portions, good service, and delicious food. Be prepared to wait as they seem to be working out the kinks...luckily the food is so good, you tend to forget about the wait. read more

This is their second location, 1st location is in Inglewood which we have also been to where they have the same menu. We tried a little bit of everything as you will see in the pictures. To start off, the decor is pretty nice, you will their prices are a little higher than usual for mariscos spot but it's worth it! The mojarra frita was beyond chunky with lots of flavor. I also had the sopa de camaron which also had fish chunks and other seafood, I would have it again. The ceviche was delicious, it was a little too spicy for my liking but it gets a pass. We also tried the camarones cucarachas, man they were on point. Definitely worth coming here! There is street parking, which will be easy to find. Designated a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant, which is a rating for a great restaurant that is inexpensive and has great food, it's kinda like a poor man's Michelin Star establishment. The food was amazingly delious and everybody wants to gl back again. 4 friends ordered the whole snook fish, which comes in kilo and 1.5 kilo and 2 kilo sizes. They loved it and odered other dishes to share, including a mango cerviche. I had the chef's speciality, which is shrimp with bacon, mushrooms, in a house special sauce. Two people ordered the imported smoked marlin tacos, which were the small size with not a lot to eat but there were delicious. The service was fantastic and they even brought out a pico de gallo as the salsa was really hot, too hot for some of us. I liked both with my chips, which they cheerfully replentished. They have alcohol, but it is not listed on their menu. There is a small sign when you walk in, at the counter, on the right. The only drawback is the parking. There is street parking on Centinela if you are lucky to find a space, or on small side streets. This place is worth hunting for a space for 15 minutes as the food is that good. The grilled snook is no freaking joke! So, so good. Would come back specifically for that. The rest of this place? Lots of potential, but missed the mark a bit for me. For a yummy seafood place on the Westside, the aesthetic just didn't fit. Decor is a little dated, it's dark, the music is boring (top 40 pop vibe), and it was uncomfortably warm and stuffy. You'd think a seafood place would offer some fun beer and wine, but their drink menu is vague at best. They have a handwritten note on their menu to ask about their drinks--not sure why it's not printed out, but our server spouted off a few random offerings and I had a very underwhelming paloma. Back to the snook though--this dish is awesome and a fun one to share with friends. Three of us split the 1.5 oz which was a lot of fish. They serve it on a big tray with limes and caramelized onions--their spicy house salsa is great on it as well. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so order it first thing. Also tried the ceviche which was lovely! Parking is fairly easy on the side streets off Centinela. There is a lot around back, but I think it may be for staff only. Not sure if they take reservations and it didn't seem necessary when I was there (Sunday night), although it did get pretty full by 7 pm or so. read more

Delicious. The first thing you will notice when you walk into Conis is the dark wood decor and the feeling of freshness. The hostess is nice and inviting, The menu is delicious lots of the Mariscos Staples. The shrimp coctel is fresh clean. The garlic shrimp comes with a side of rice and also they are whole so if that is an issue I would maybe ask the waitress. The salsa is a little spicy so be careful. Parking is is simple and plenty. I would recommend this place for a date or even groups. The staff is nice the chef is passionate and the atmosphere is chill. read more

Came in for a spontaneous lunch with my fiancé and we fell in love! Not only is the food super tasty, but the service is spot on. Thank you Cristina for making us feel welcomed and fully understand the menu! Keep in mind: this is an authentic MEXICAN style restaurant! The shrimp and fish ceviches do come RAW, as it does in Mexico, but she kindly asked if we wanted the shrimp fully cooked (boiled). A few dishes did come with head, which we didn't mind but I am sure you can request without. Like the Aguachiles and the Traditional plates. We ordered the marlin tacos as well and let me just say: CHEFS KISS! The cheesy flavorful fish along with the habanero sauce on the side was just cherry on the top! I came here in a group of 6 on a Monday afternoon. We ordered a 1 kilo snook to be roasted, and several shrimp dishes. I loved everything that came out but my absolute favorite was the raw shrimp. It came out filleted and cleaned, and was partially cooked in a salsa with lots of citrus. I would drive all the way back to LA just for this raw shrimp dish alone! The service was a little slow - we were one of just 4 tables and had a hard time getting someone's attention. A table close to us weren't as happy about their lack of attentiveness and if we were hungrier I'm sure our feelings would have been the same. The roast snook had a disclaimer of needing 30 minutes to prepare. I hate to be leaving a negative review from a restaurant I love but unfortunately I must. I love this place however a recent incident with the owner has left me no choice. I ordered delivery from Postmates and when I received my order the ceviche was missing. Since I can't call Postmates I called the restaurant to see what happened. The waitress was super nice and said they forgot to put the ceviche in the bag but the next time I came in they would give me a ceviche on the house. I thought that was very nice of them and asked if she should write my name down, she said yes. I asked if I should have her name and she said it's pretty much the same staff every night so just come in and they'll honor my free ceviche for their mistake. I just came into Coni's and it was clearly a different waitress than I spoke with before because she didn't know what I was talking about. She was very nice and said she'd have to call the owner. Next thing I know she gives the phone to me and I am talking to Coni. Coni doesn't let me get a word in from the beginning and is talking over me so much that I can barely explain the situation. She then tells me that she doesn't have Postmates at this location and is basically calling me a liar. I'm literally looking at the Postmates for their location while I'm talking to her and she is saying that's impossible. She asks me to describe the waitress I talked to on the phone but how can I when I ordered online? She said if you go there all the time how come you don't know what the waitress looks like? I ordered online!! How am I supposed to know who I talked to on the phone? I'm sorry I don't know the exact description of your wait staff. I have never been treated like this by an owner of a restaurant. She was not willing to understand my point of view whatsoever. She talked over me the whole time and did not listen. She basically told me I was lying about ordering from Postmates. Coni, I've been ordering Postmates from this location all summer. Two locations pop up on Postmates, I even showed your waitress tonight. Why would I make something like this up? The only reason I came in to ask for the free ceviche is because her employee promised it to me and they should honor what they tell their customers. If they had never said anything to me I still would have came in like a loyal customer and paid for my meal like always. I love the food and the service has always been great. Don't be surprised they don't have beans, they are really not necessary. The rice that comes with the shrimp is delicious. Really spicy green salsa comes with the chips, fiery but delicious. Visited and enjoyed their outdoor dining experience. They decorations are cute and have tables, for at most 4 people, that are definitely separated by 6 feet. Highly recommend the spicy margarita and Paloma, they are both smooth, without the alcohol taste, but will still get you buzzed. The ceviche marinero and the camarones cucarachita were perfectly seasoned and are great pics for any seafood lover. I should warn you the food here can be spicy but it's so good you can't stop eating. We also ordered the Pescado Zarandeado, it wasn't bad but the other dishes were so good that the fish was relatively ok. The group I was with generally prefers fried fish. read more

Major marks down for the C rating and bottoming out at 1-star for hiding the rating from the outside by a plant and hiding in the inside with a stack of pillows on the couch. Very strange experience from the C rating covered up by a plant and some pillows to the dopey waitress and wobbling table. My mother asked what was good on the menu and the waitress suggested ordering something with sour cream and cheese. My mom said multiple times she was trying to avoid cheese and yet she kept suggesting dishes with cheese! In the end, she ordered the Tacos al Gobernador described on the menu as: "(3 tacos) Shrimp w/ sautéed vegetables (celery, bell pepper, olives, scallions & yellow pepper)". It was basically a quesadilla including more cheese than there were vegetables or shrimp. My mom told the waitress she was disappointed and she replied "you should have told me you didn't want cheese!" Anyway, we were shocked not only by the service but the food was very sub par. Two of us were served our dishes about 10 minuets later than the others, making the timing all around uncomfortable. We told the waitress again about this timing issue and they simply said "okay" and walked away. I ordered the Camarones rancheros secos which was fine, nothing special. The shrimp was tough. I've certainly made better shrimp at home. We were really surprised by such a negative experience since it had been so raved about online and by Mr. Gold.
