We met here for a family breakfast, it was a nice halfway point. The restaurant was extremely crowded and the hostess was very frantic. She was very nice to our kids, but a bit aggressive about where we could sit. It was a strange way to start our experience. Our server was very nice but the service was very slow and the food was average and highly priced. At the end of breakfast the hostess did give our kids a few goodies which was a nice touch. I am always willing to give a restaurant another chance and hope for a better experience next time. read more

I've been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years. It's a family restaurant, where the owner knows all his regular customers by name and the new ones he treats like he's known them for years as well. This restaurant has managed to stay in business while many of the others around it have closed. The food is well above your average family restaurant and the prices reflect that. This isn't fine dining as some like to compare it too. The staff works hard and many have worked there for 10-20 years. Customers come in and ask for specific servers due to the service and relationships built over the years. There are LOTS of customers who eat here daily or multiple times weekly!! The restaurant is always clean and has a beautiful banquet hall attached that has events going on almost daily. Many groups and organizations come in monthly and rent out the room. The soups, salads (create your own), pancakes, skirt steak, Athenian Chicken, wings and Chicken Mykonos (Wednesday night only) are some of my favorites. read more

It's a quiet family restaurant with the typical deli fare: Sandwiches, huge burgers, hot turkey clubs and of course it all comes with bread service. This won't be the best meal you ever had, but for good conversation and a comfy cozy atmosphere, this is the place to beat. read more

I give this restaurant a 5. First most restaurants that serve a good BLT are closed at 3pm. Not this one. They were doing a brisk business when I left at 6pm. Take out orders were numerous. Food was good, homemade chicken soup was excellent, service was excellent, fast, and the people were friendly. It was also very clean. With a BLT sandwich, I got bread, a baked potato at no extra charge cole slaw. Whole bill was under $14.00. Have to try this place for breakfast. Gem in Buffalo Grove. Will come back. Ordered carry-out from Continental tonight, using their drive-up service. The dinners were brought to us hot, well-packaged and right on time. I had moussaka, as Wednesday is Greek Special day. The portion was huge, much larger and as good or better than at any of the big-name restaurants in Greektown. With a cup of their outstanding cabbage soup, fresh rolls and butter I could barely finish half my meal. My wife chose the Athenian Style skirt steak sandwich with soup and oven roasted potatoes. The skirt steak was large, thick, well seasoned, tender, and cooked a perfect rare, as ordered. Some of the best food and one of the best value meal options available in the area. Local joint that has tasty food and plenty of it. Nobody goes hungry at this place. The owner , Pete, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He's friendly and personable and walks the floor to make it's all good and to say hello to long time customers and new ones. He's a very charitable person and supports all the local worthwhile initiatives. When a recent issue happened and a derelict stole flowers from the front of his porch area, the community rallied to bring new ones to replace the stolen ones. When the community cares like this, you can begin to understand what type of place this is to eat at. Wait, what about the food you say...? Well, they make the soups in house and they rival some of the old Jewish Deli's but with a Greek touch. Delicious and good sized. Try the all you can eat soup bowl and they'll have to roll you out. You can even switch the soups. Yum. I love the BBQ chicken gyros off the spit. Pork chops are big and come with two. You get a full meal with salad or soup, bread on table, vegetables, potatoes, etc. all the food is good but the omelette is one of the best in the business! Huge and fluffy. I prefer these omelettes to other more expensive ones from the "bro's" breakfast places. No images as I eat it all. Attended a 40th anniversary party last weekend here. There was a separate room for the event. We had our own bartender and wait staff. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The room can hold more people than we're in attendance so it was very comfortable and easy to move around and visit with everyone. The food was served buffet style, the salmon and chicken piccata were my favorites. We had appetizers and salad, the main meal also included beef, mixed vegetables, Greek potatoes and fried fish. No one went home hungry. The owner Pete dropped in to check on us. I've been here before for events and the Continental doesn't disappoint. read more

The days of being able to have a Skillet dinner for $10 are now a mere memory for this type of restaurant, as most Sandwiches and low end dinner items are now about $16 (Skillets are $12.50 now), but the quality and completeness of most dinner items make this a desirable destination nonetheless. We had the Athenian Chicken and the Chicken Oscar at dinner. The Greek Potatoes and sautéed Spinach sides with the Chicken were both winners, as were the entrees themselves. As usual, really desirable breads come with the included soup, which is a real bowl size. Service was friendly and very attentive on a Wednesday night. The only negative is the astounding $3.50 charged for soft drinks. read more

However, they forgot the bread while you wait for your food so my mom asked for it and we waited and waited, he took very long to come with the bread and my mom ate her soup and no bread. We also waited a long time for napkins. They only give you one napkin. She was not pleased at all. So a positive and a negative experience. read more

Pete has been a fixture in this community for over 25 years. A nice restaurant run by a nice man. When my in laws passed away a tray of food was delivered to our home during our time of mourning. Pete has contributed to charitable functions for years. Now when times are tough , we should go to the Continental and show our support . It's the right thing to do. read more

Didn't know what we wanted so went to the Continental as they have a GIANT 10 page menu. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Started with a basket of 6-8 fresh rolls & bagels. Sandwiches included fries & soup. 3 egg omelets, broasted chicken & so much more. Easy to find for us tourists & plenty of seating & parking. Food was pretty good for the variety they have to prepare. read more

The food has gone downhill...a lot. Four diners with four sub par entrees. Three different chicken dishes were all disappointing. My BLT was made on what was supposed to be toast but was white bread put on a grill for about five seconds. The bacon was little greasy chunks. Even the bread basket had dried out rolls in it. Very dissatisfied with this restaurant as my family and I have been coming here for years but today we were pushed aside by the hostess and she proceeded to take two people that came in after us to a table. My family and I ordered two salads and a grilled cheese and we had waited for them for now 25 minutes but again the guy who ordered after us still got his food first. They also had family members with their kids in back wiping there faces then touching counters. this place is a joke and they need to do better read more

A large, comfortable restaurant located in Buffalo Grove. The restaurant could use some remodeling, but is on par with many of the restaurants in this area. The menu is fairly expansive, covering pretty much every major item you could want to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Prices are fair -- it's a bit on the high side if you're on a strict budget -- however portion sizes are also enormous (pretty much going to take half your meal home), so it's not as expensive as it appears. Parking isn't too difficult as this is located in a relatively large shopping center. Service is friendly and sufficient. Here are my quick thoughts on the items I tried: - Roast turkey: Fairly tender, not salty. Sliced thin and easy to eat. - Mashed potatoes: Very soft and quite starchy, not full of butter or herbs - Stuffing: Soft and light on herbs. Apples are a bit softer than usual and a bit tart, which don't detract from the rest of the dish. - Fried half chicken: Lightly crispy but lacks marination and there are almost no spices in the batter. - Sweet potato fries: Very crispy, slightly sweet - Beef brisket: A little on the dry side, but the brisket is flavorful and sliced thin. - Greek potatoes: Lightly herbed, not quite chewy but not quite soft. - Fries: Hearty potato flavor, crispy but a bit too oily - Cole slaw: Nice and fresh, could've used a bit more acidity but was pretty crisp. - Gyro: Could've rendered out a bit more fat or seasoned a bit more to remove some of the unpleasant lamb flavor, but I did like how it was a bit different than what I get from other places. - Corned beef hash skillet: Corned beef was crisped up nicely along with the hash browns. Along with the seared green peppers, this created a very nice flavor combination. There was a generous layer of cheese to top all of this. - Walleye pike: Battered nicely and was nice and crispy. Generous sized fillets makes this a good deal compared to many other local restaurants with beer battered fish. - Popeye skillet: Bacon was crisped up nicely and matched well with the hash browns. The tomato and spinach really helped to cut through the grease from the other components. - Steamed veggies: Fluffy and light, vegetables were of better quality than you typically find in a side - Pancakes: Fluffy and light, this reminded me of angel food cake - Salad: Really plain, just a bed of lettuce and greens although this was pretty fresh - Chicken noodle soup: Filled with a ton of noodles and a good helping of carrot and celery, this was a bit bland overall despite all the ingredients and the items are cooked very soft - Matzo ball soup: Huge matzo ball, which had very low amounts of seasoning and a very light broth. - Peanutbutter Ice Cream: Creamy and delicious. The whipped cream on top added a nice touch. Overall, 4 stars. While I personally find the food to be a bit soft and fairly bland, I can understand the appeal of a large restaurant, with a diverse menu, giant portion sizes, and cooking that fits well to most dietary restrictions. Continental is aware of their target audience and caters very well to them. But if you're looking for something with a lot more salt and unhealthy cooking styles, you're better off looking elsewhere. read more

This is typical Chicago style old school sit down restaurant. Where the bread is put on the table, the menu is the size of a book and breakfast is served anytime. The staff is friendly, the bread is slightly stale and the food is plentiful! I like taking the kids there. read more

Friends took me to dinner at Continental - my first time there. What a wonderful evening. Continental is a typical restaurant owned and run by Greeks so I started with their wonderful egg-lemon soup. Similar to cream chicken soup with just a hint of lemon, not the overpowering taste of lemon from some other restaurants. My main course was the favorite breaded veal cutlets. Two large pieces of cutlet served with brown gravy and whipped potatoes. Served also with fresh vegetables. I have a hearty appetite and I was not able to finish all they served me. No problem, they quickly provided styrofoam containers so we could take the extra food home. Everything was top-notch. If you are looking for a huge menu with fantastic food at reasonable prices, give Continental a try - you won't be disappointed. PS - all soups, breads, etc are home made. I thought this type of restaurant no longer existed - but thankfully it does. read more

Masks? You don't need a mask to eat here! Went in here today for breakfast. I wasn't feeling too good about some of the staff wearing their masks below their noses, but what really got me scared was that none of the Customers were wearing a mask at all! We arrived here around 6:45 on a Wednesday night and the place was packed!! I mean every table was taken! Instantly a good sign. We had called ahead since we had a party of 14 coming. Our table was set and ready to go for all of us, which was very much appreciated! Bread was brimming from baskets, just waiting to be slathered with butter and jams. It was a really nice variation of bread and accompaniments. The waiter was quick to take our drink orders and our food orders soon after. The food came out so fast!!! And he had everything correct for each person! There wasn't a single complaint to be heard. The lemon chicken & rice soup was TO DIE FOR!!! So creamy and rich and the perfect amount of lemon flavor! I could enjoy that soup every day of the week, but apparently they only whip it up on Wednesdays (lucky we went that day!). I had the original skillet, no mushrooms, sunny-side up eggs, cheddar cheese and pancakes. It was fantastic!!! Everything was cooked perfectly. I added some extra salt and pepper for my own preference. Those pancakes were heaven!!!! So fluffy but nice and thick at the same time. Huge success on the whole meal! The busboy never stopped moving around the restaurant and quickly had dirty dishes off the table. We got our checks quickly and were on our way out, happy and full! Everyone's dishes looked fantastic. Portions were very generous and very fairly priced. I would absolutely go again, but hopefully on a Wednesday for that soup! read more

Do not judge this place by the location or clientle. This is a great restaurant in a strip mall in the retail district of Buffalo Grove. The median customer age was 75 when I went, so I immediately felt out of place arriving for a quick lunch meeting. Once greeted by the friendly host and waiter I felt right at home. The food is abundant - they give you a ton for your money. Each meal comes with a large basket of rolls, soup and the entrée with fries and cole slaw. Not bad for my $11.99 Gyro! I had matzo ball soup and it was great! I was pretty full after that and the rolls, but out came the giant gyro. Good quality meat, great pita and some grilled veggies on it (by request). I went with fruit as a side and ended taking most of it home along with half my gyro. This is a family (and geriatric) friendly restaurant that makes solid food at an outstanding price! read more

I've been meaning to update my review for a while. This place has been much better in the last few years. I've made take out orders that were timely and delicious. The owner is incredibly nice and handed me the food himself. I also went there to eat at the place with my wIfe and the service was great and the food was fresh and tasty. Had dinner here again the other night :) Chicken noodle soup was great and came with some bread on the side. Got the grilled cheese sandwich which was good but I think I'll ask them to bring out the soup with the grilled cheese next time so I can dip it. The coleslaw was just ok. I also got a side of cottage cheese which was yummy. My boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed and some fries. I dipped one of his fries in my cottage cheese and it was really good. Places like this, independently owned restaurants that have had a single owner for decades, are becoming all to scarce in this landscape of fast food restaurants and, in the higher end category, corporate owned places. I'll mention that this is an unusual spot for another reason; it's a Greek owned restaurant that gives a polite (and savvy) nod to the historically Jewish population of this northern suburb, so you'll see saganaki being flamed table-side next to the person enjoying a warming bowl of matzoh ball soup. The matzoh ball mentioned wasn't as light and airy as the one Bubbe used to make (a tad heavy and slightly underdone in the middle) but the broth was delicious; an herby brew with that perfect chicken flavor. They make all of their soups in house, from scratch. The menu is vast, and includes all day breakfast and loads of sandwiches next to plated dinners, meal sized salads with house made dressings, Greek specialties and daily soups; there were 3 choices on the day we visited. My choice was limited by my Keto diet, but I didn't have to look far; the low cal plate, which featured a burger patty, cottage cheese, HB egg and raisin toast, was my choice. Since toast isn't kosher on the Keto diet, I asked the waitress if the kitchen could sub some tomatoes, and she didn't hesitate to say "sure", plus the kitchen added cucumbers and onions to the mix. Our hosts, a local couple that dines here regularly, say they've never heard "no" when it comes to requests. While the food isn't cutting edge, it is homey and comforting, and the people here are very much a part of this community. Lovely. read more

A nice diner! Nice - good food, and ample portions. I tried a stuffed tomato this visit, and it was a healthy plate of tomato sliced with a scoop of tuna salad, slices of tomato, cucumber, hard boiled egg, and some fruit, with a bowl of cottage cheese. Tasty and filling! Decor is nice, if not fancy. Owners are welcoming, and seemed like ever present in the dining room. Diner - Service was decent, though rough. Server did a good job of welcoming us, and sometimes staff kept our drinks filled, though usually when most were empty. The buss crew, however, was LOUD! Picking up dishes from tables, our guy would almost drop the plates, glasses, and silverware into the bin on a cart as he rolled through the restaurant. This is a very piercing sound, especially when next to you, but even when 3 tables away. Huge negative - just place the items in the bin! Overall, a fun place to come for some good food in an unpolished atmosphere. read more

It's far more than your average diner, Pete runs a phenomenal business and treats every customer like family. Depending on what you get, the food can be exceptional but keep in mind it is just a diner. They have the taproom gaming too which is a nice past time.
