Brake / Rotor replacement, a one hour job

Quoted 1000 dollars for a brake job. Tried to scare my wife during an oil change - said that it was unsafe to drive home. Curious - are you replacing all 4 corners on an Outback with Baer brake calipers (not). Because that's the only thing that justifies a cool grand for 200 dollars worth of parts and an hour of labor. I'll do it myself instead. Pads and rotors are under 200 bucks. I dare you (lurking continental manager) to come back on here and tell me that calipers must be replaced too. What a joke. Stop using fear and outrageous labor to create profits. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

The "new" parts they magically installed in my car before they actually received said parts.

In 2019, I bought a brand new outback from this dealership with 9 miles on it. Currently, it is still under warranty. (I even gave them a 5 star review for the sale) Around June, I noticed a strong shaking when I started the engine. After a 6 hour diagnostic, Continental Subaru's service dept told me that I needed a new air compressor, new cabin air filter and oil change. They politely asked me to wait another 2 hours to "get it all taken care of together". When I went to pay, they told me they only did the oil change and ordered the parts for the air compressor. Basically, I waited 6 hours for an oil change and overpriced cabin filter that day. I came back the following week and waited another 6 hours to install my new air compressor. 5 mins after driving off the lot (at the Tudor intersection), there is a loud banging under the hood. The A/C belt had frayed and snapped apart into 3 pieces. Refrigerant had completely leaked out of the car and now the car is shaking and hissing. I drove it back and the service manager was extremely rude trying to convince me that somehow this was my fault and the belt was just a little loose and "it happens all the time". Umm...I may not know a lot about cars, but there is a 5 inch broken section of belt sticking to the underside of the hood. I would not consider that "loose". It is broken. Hours later, I'm informed they need to talk to the mechanic who originally diagnosed the problem but he was on vacation and I would have to come back in another week. I had to leave my car there for another week because now "it is no longer safe to drive". A week later, they call to say "Your A/C is running super cold and we put in brand new parts. Everything is covered under warranty. You're good to go! " he even apologized for the hassle. I was not convinced , but eager to get the hell out of there. 30 mins after driving off the lot, the car starts to shake again. Nope. Not going back. Terrified of going back and having them break something else, I drove home and decided to find another mechanic. Yesterday, a lady from Continental Subaru called to tell me "your parts just arrived". Me: "...you mean the same parts that were already installed 2 weeks ago?"

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! In the fall of 2019 I took my 2009 Subaru Forester into Continental Subaru for basic maintenance and they told me that I needed to have my head gaskets replaced. They quoted me approximately $2,300.00 for the head gaskets, timing belt and water pump. A few weeks after I dropped it off they call me and tell me that one of the heads is cracked??? and that it needs to be re surfaced and now my bill is approximately $3,800.00. I have no problem paying a shop to do the work I requested! My issue started approximately 4,000 miles after it left their shop, the engine seized. So I had to have it towed over 300 miles(so expensive) to a different Subaru dealer and the service manager there told me that the work that Continental Subaru did on my car was negligent and that I ought to file a lawsuit against them to recover my losses. My attempts to contact~ANYONE~here about the blown engine were basically pointless and I was told to stop trying to contact them. I got multiple opinions from numerous Subaru dealer shops and Subaru corporate told me that they weren't able to help. I ultimately decided that I couldn't afford a lawyer to fight them, and I'm young I work as a wildland firefighter in the summer and a backcountry river guide in the winter so I don't even have the kind of lifestyle that affords me the free time to use my cell phone regularly let alone deal with something like this and no one should have to. So even if Continental Subaru never does what is right and warranties the work they did or pays for an engine to replace the one they ruined, maybe this review will help someone else steer very clear of them.

Several things to note. 1. The salespersons will let you wander around on your own. 1b. When you're interested in driving a car, they bring it around to the front and let it warm up for you. They also scrap the ice and get it all ready. 2. They will let you take the cars for drives on your own. They didn't tell us where to go or how long to be out. 3. They will work with prices. If you have a reasonable offer, they seem willing to work. More than anything, I was impressed how Toby (our salesperson) treated my wife. He greeted her first and asked whose name should go first in the paperwork. He was never pushy or, as my wife said it, never said those car salesman lines. He asked questions and quickly and efficiently addressed all our questions. When we asked if we could take it to our mechanic, he said sure and was helpful in explaining ways we could do that. They also had an inspection done and gave it to us. For the record, our mechanic said the exact same things that were said in the inspection that was given to us in the office. We will return to this place when we are ready to buy another car. I can't imagine doing business with any other salesperson.

I guess that's why it's in the name! They were patient with me while I went through the loan process and held the vehicle for me while I was finishing up paperwork all over town even though it had a lot off interest. Of course they offered me assistance with this too! As far as trade-in values you won't find a complaint from me! The big dealerships are a joke as far as trade-in values so I like to go to "the little guys." I got exactly what I wanted for trade-in. Another great thing is they do not harass you the moment you drive onto their lot to look, which I love. It's stressful and it can make me feel like prey around sharks when that happens, so bravo to Quality for that! If you have an inquiry you just head inside and anyone is willing to help you. Test drives are easy to do as well with just a copy of your license. They will let you take it out solo (with some exceptions they have to ride along) which I find also great because it's more relaxing to me to get a feel for the vehicle and not worry about awkward small talk with a stranger. My family and I have been loyal Toyota and Lexus owners for many years, and we have consistently chosen these brands because of their quality, reliability, and the positive experiences we've had in the past. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. Several weeks ago, we began the purchase process on a 2025 Toyota 4Runner. From the very beginning, Kendall made us feel as though they were doing us a favor by selling us a $56,000 vehicle. The original sales manager repeatedly tried to sell me vehicles that I had no interest in and then told me that the specific vehicle we wanted was not available to view or test drive. When we asked if we could at least look inside it, we were told the keys were "missing." We later discovered that the vehicle had broken parts and smelled as though something had been spilled inside. When we asked if another 4Runner was available, we were told there were no other comparable vehicles, which ultimately proved to be untrue. Despite these issues, we reluctantly moved forward with the purchase of a second 4Runner that a different sales manager "found" on the lot that the first salesperson said was not available..... Today, when we called to ask when we could pick up the vehicle, we were told that the service department was "backed up because they were assisting customers who had placed deposits on vehicles." We paid for our vehicle in full with cash, yet it apparently became a lower priority once the sale was completed. Thankfully, Kumbi Jarvis and Yaz Sakar became involved at the last minute. They significantly improved what had otherwise been an extremely disappointing buying experience and demonstrated the level of professionalism and customer service we had expected from the beginning. They deserve recognition for their efforts. Unfortunately, despite having a few exceptional employees, this experience left me with the impression that Kendall is more focused on maximizing profits than on providing a quality customer experience. As longtime Toyota and Lexus loyalists who have purchased multiple vehicles from Kendall, we never expected to be treated this way. Based on this experience, I would not purchase another vehicle from Kendall, and I will likely take my future business elsewhere--even if that means looking beyond Toyota and Lexus, as Kendall has the monopoly in Alaska. Follow-up: When Kendall finally delivered the vehicle, they did a subpar job on cleaning/prepping for delivery and did not even both to give us a full tank of gas. This dealership gets a "F" for customer service.
