What do A malt shop, a dive, and a biker hangout have in common? If you guessed the Cool Cat Cafe, you'd be correct. The restaurant itself has no lightening other than what sun was coming through the windows, so they get a A+ for conserving power. Inside the restaurant they have red and white booths lining the walls and a bar with stools. I find the set up a bit scattered, as if they are having a bit of an identity crisis (see the beginning of my review and that will make more sense) We were led out to a enclosed patio area, tall tables & stools lined up by the windows, a bit of a tight fit if you have someone who sits 5 ft from the table, (I'm looking at you guy in the red shirt who wouldn't move to let me slide in to my seat) Our waitress was attentive, took our drink orders and we both chose the Luna burger, she offered to make a lettuce wrap for my friend who was trying not to eat much bread product, and we were contemplating dessert but when our orders came out there was no way we were going to have room for dessert. The burger was loaded with fresh sliced red onion, lettuce tomatoes, pickles and thousand island dressing, the burger was juicy and tasted darn good, the Onion rings were made to order, and were delicious, I couldn't finish them. Food is meh and the place was loud! Our group of 10 chose this place on a Sat evening since Splash had a long line and not many big tables to dine on. A few of us ordered the catch of the day for $22. That day, it was Wahoo fish. You'd think that fresh fish by the beach would be pricey but delicious. Although the flavor was good, it was definitely overcooked and rubbery. Portion was also small for the price. The sides were steamed rice and garlic toast. Why would they have 2 starches as sides? We all agreed a side of veggies would have been better. Hubby ordered the fish n chips and wasn't crazy about it. I had one of the fries and it was too crunchy, like it had been refried. Service was friendly but it took a couple of times for them to do something about the fan which was blowing very hard right on top on us on a cool night. Also, one of the waitresses asked if we wanted "anything, soy sauce???" I looked around and realized we were the only Asians so not sure if that was just ignorance or just racist. But no, we dont put soy sauce in our burgers or fish n fries... we just laughed it off. They had live music and some sort of raffle going on so it was very busy and loud. Cool cats is right by the pier parking in sunny Pismo Beach, CA. By the time we got here for dinner we had had a full day in the sand, sun and surf and we're all exhausted. Cool Cats was just what we needed. The walls are adorned with old actors and actresses of the iconic 40s, 50s and 60s. But still has the beachy vibe. Upon entering we were greeted by a hostess who sat us and then our waiter came soon. Appetizer: onion rings- 4 stars Main: the Duke burger-4 stars, fish n chips- 3 stars No dessert The service was alright. Food was average I'd say. Nothing too special but not bad either. Went to the Pismo location last night. Parking is a pain in tne ass in Pismo on tne weekends, but it was worth it. Great food. Great service. No staffing shortage at Cool Cats. They sat us immediately and our food came out fast. We ate way too much because it was so damn good that we couldnt stop. This place far exceeded my expectations!! My boyfriend and I came for dinner and each ordered a beer. Our waiter politely offered to bring us a sample of each before serving a full pint, since the ones we asked for were a bit obscure and we told him we'd never tried them before. We ended up both liking what we ordered, but I really appreciated this! As for the food, I was not disappointed. The burgers are immaculate!!! The reason I'm giving this place 5 stars though, is because we had the best service I have had at a restaurant in a very long time. From the host sitting us down to our amazing waiter (Curtis) to the time we left. I felt like they offered everything they had to help us have an amazing experience. Stopped in after googling good place to get a Bloody Mary. Also ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer. Place isn't much to look at. Lol chair and table we were sat at was off kilter quite a bit. Looked dirty. Massive wall of tee shirts and other items they sell not set up in a very attractive way. Used the restroom and it was filthy and smelled very strongly of urine. Bloody Mary was okay. The food here was so good we ordered more the next day for our road trip home. The Rockin Robin was one of the best turkey melts Ive had, and Ive had a lot. The shakes, marinara sticks & chicken strips left the kids happy and satisfied. Location was great, just a couple blocks from the beach. The interior was cute with a rock n roll theme. Came here with family for a nice dinner. We came around 6 and were seated right away. They do have a kids menu (which comes with crayons for coloring on the back!), but it seemed too small for us so we all just went with the adult menu. I ordered the Bogy Burger without mayo, my sister and brother both ordered sandwiches but I don't remember which ones, my mom ordered the Ricky Ricardo salad, and my dad ordered clam chowder. We also got chicken tenders and a basket of frings (1/2 fries, 1/2 onion rings) to share. The fries and onion rings were crispy and yummy, and so were the chicken tenders. If you want ranch, you have to ask which we did because they had brought only one container of ranch. An interesting touch to the burgers and salads is that they come with a slice of pineapple which was very refreshing. Overall, everyone was satisfied with their orders which was good. The place has a retro 50s vibe which is pretty cool. Retro posters and decor along with red booths and retro ketchup & mustard bottles. There is a big bar for the adults and a TV, but you can't hear it if its noisy which is expected. In summary, cool vibe and good food. read more

The food here is excellent and everything on the menu is very yummy. Huge plus is the friendliness of the staff. Especially the manager Mike. Our child has a severe allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. He sat down with us to review the menu and our options for ordering. Including complete ingredient lists. It was amazing and totally put our minds at ease. He even had the severs pack the food in to go containers to ensure no cross contamination with nuts. His friendliness and eagerness to make us feel welcome and safe is unparalleled. Okay so I went here on Tuesday with my girlfriend and holy cow was I amazed! The male host (I think his name was attic or something) was very friendly and his personality was great. I sat down, already having a great experience, and was greeted by my server. My husband and I stopped here on 9/25/14 on our way to Santa Barbara for our honeymoon. It was right around 5pm when we hit bumper to bumper traffic coming into Pismo, so we decided to stop and get something to eat and pass the traffic time. We were looking for somewhere to eat along the street (Pomeroy). It wasn't busy anywhere and was just going to walk up and down the street to scope out our choices, when we stopped to look at Cool Cat's menu. We were greeted by a very nice hostess and she shared their specials and asked if we'd ever dined there before. Specials sounded really good so decided to be seated. We sat on the patio and had a nice view of the water and pier. It was happy hour and took advantage of that. I had two margaritas and my hubby had 3 Mai Tai's (not what he normally drinks but he really liked them!). The menu was great with many different options and lots of different types of burgers. I ordered the Bogy Burger and hubby had the Don Ho. They were both off-the-hook DELICIOUS!! We split an order of fries and onion rings which were both good, but I liked the onion rings best. The atmosphere was also very COOL (Cool Cat Cafe)!!...with the old school black, red, and white checkered diner decor. Bar area looked inviting. This place is a hidden gem! Well, not really hidden, located in downtown Pismo Beach. Had a burger there about a month ago and it was fantastic, you could taste the quality. There for Happy Hour yesterday and Susie fixed us up real nice. Skinny Margarita was the bomb! Not sure everyone is like me but I have a margarita because they taste good and also want a "buzz". Nothing worse then having a couple drinks where you couldn't even tell there was alcohol in it. No, I'm not lush but like I said I have a couple drinks for a reason. Love them, it's my favorite go to in town. The burger of the month was amazing and they always have good drafts and drinks.

Burgers were really good and generous with toppings. Fries were a little too seasoned for me, but my partner loved how flavorful they were! We ordered a chocolate milkshake and our server offered to split it into two cups, which was awesome. It was crowded, but that's to be expected of a place this close to the pier. After the girls at the front finally acknowledged me and my partner one of them led us to our table. This place has some amazing food! We haven't been to Pismo in years. We decided to do a last minute trip to our local coast on the 4 of July weekend. We have never been to this establishment and it wasn't very busy so we were a little skeptical. Boy we sure did underestimate this place. We had the fish and chips....amazing and the catch of the day which was Mahi Mahi blackened with mushrooms veggies and a baked potatoe...omg to die for. The coconut margarita, one of the best margaritas #yum. The food and service was phenomenal so we came back for dinner. Easily the star of our trip to Pismo Beach, Cool Cat Cafe had superior service, welcoming ambiance, and delicious cuisine. The "catch of the day", a halibut was cooked perfectly, moist while crispy on the outside, the vegetables accompanying it also perfectly sautéed, and the steamed rice working well with the dish. It also had caramelized onions, but those could have easily been left out as they were not needed considering the excellent (but mild) flavor of the fish, which is the star. They even, upon request, provided a chilled beer glass for the root beer, the only civilized way to drink an excellent cane sugar root beer, such as the one they provided. Highly recommended. I'm going to rate this cafe 1 star! It looked like a cool place however I was extremely furious when the guy at the door told my 9 year old daughter that she couldn't bring in her water bottle. He said she needed to drink it all or throw it out. Seriously it's a water, not a soda? He said it was due to people "stealing alcohol".. ? Is there really that many people are "stealing alcohol"? I mean come on your going to give her a water anyways. . So we went to put it in a purse and he said no sorry we can't allow that.. so makes it seem as if they're going to search peoples purses? Every time we come here its perfect. The food is great. The customer service is great. Their adult beverages are great! I always end up tipping 30-40% because I love being here. I also appreciate how they are handling the pandemic. I appreciate their silent protest to keep outdoor eating open while also taking all precautions to clean and wear masks, with tables very well spaced out. Their fish & chips are always perfect.
