So the first time I came here, I ordered a brussel sprout salad and to my dismay there were very very few brussel sprouts and toooooo much cabbage (which wasn't listed in the description). The owner/manager promptly addressed the issue and updated the menu description. My second time I went for the fried avocado salad and the brussel sprout appetizer and neither disappointed! Looking for something different for dinner down in Streeterville can be a challenge. You've either got super pricey, or super bland (sometimes a combination of the two). A beautiful Friday night after work, and I didn't feel like being home, so I play "OpenTable Roulette," and this place pops up. As a graphic designer, I'm intrigued by the logo - then I look at the menu and am even more intrigued - they had me at "Calamari Fries." I am a calamari freak. I absolutely love it - the best I've had was from a tar paper shanty that cut it in strips at the Laguna Seca Raceway in California... seriously good - Copper Fox gave me a similar experience with their "fries," and were delicious. Another must is their bacon-fat glazed biscuits... they are little chunks of heaven, if heaven were made of bacon fat and sea salt. My wife got the Pork Porterhouse, which was beautifully presented, very tasty, but was the size of a Volkswagen - three people could share it! I got the fish tacos. I was skeptical, but Chef did say he'd gotten great reviews on them. He was right - they were out of this world. Some of the best I'd had away from the West Coast. Crispy, delicate, flavorful and with a beautiful crunch from the bright toppings all on freshly grilled tortillas. I dreamt about them for days. My only complaints would be: The decor is a little lacking, probably from being attached to a Courtyard (the lights could be a little dimmer and some art on the walls would be a nice way to warm it up), and; the spice in the sauce that came with the pork got a little overwhelming for my wife. But, those are such minor issues. We got to meet the chef that night. He has some serious chops and definitely knows his way around a kitchen. I've had some culinary training, and could immediately tell he has a head full of knowledge, a heart full of passion for food and a creative streak that is so often lacking these days. My husband and I came here for Happy Hour Monday night after work. We were looking at having a few drinks and appetizers. We ended up ordering Moscow Mules ($6) and the charcuterie board ($16). It was ok, nothing special. The reason why I am giving a 2 star is that we came here for the Happy Hour which on their website says, "Join your fellow foxes and vixens Monday - Friday for great happy hour specials from 4:30pm-6:30pm" - $1 #16 Biscuits - $6 Moscow Mules - $6 Select Red and Whites Spotlight - $5 Drafts When I mentioned the Happy Hour $5 draft beers on their website the bartender says "I have never heard or seen $5 draft beers since I've been working there". So I said ok but still showed him the website for the Happy Hour on my phone. He shrugged it off and said that's for another Copper Fox Gastropub restaurant. I then pointed out that the picture on the Happy Hour page is the exact bar we were standing in. He said I'll talk to my manager. The manager comes by and says yeah we have the $5 draft on the register but we never use it. Which confused me because he basically just said yes we offer the $5 draft beers but we wont be giving it to you. This is the first and last time we will be coming back. I really REALLY wanted to like this place because the staff is 10 STARS service. They go above and beyond normal service. One of our guests asked for soy milk for his coffee and they only have creamer, our server offered to send someone out to go buy him soy milk. WOW. We came for breakfast and 3 of us ordered the American breakfast, typical with 3 eggs your style, toast and cheddar potato cake, I ordered the sourdough breakfast sandwich. It was a broken yolk fried egg with bacon and spinach, with a side of cheddar potato cake. We were all disappointed with out cheddar potato cakes, they were cold. Not served cold purposefully, just must have been sitting on our plates for a while. My sandwich was cold and more hard than I would like, not toasty, just hard. There was no seasoning or sauce in the sandwich, I did not enjoy this. I checked in on Yelp there and it gave me a coupon for free biscuits, turns out they were out of them. Which seemed hard to understand, the dining room was not packed and it was early in the morning, how did they run out already? Our waiter was very apologetic and helpful, then the manager came over and promised us if we come back the next day we will be given our biscuits. I chose this establishment based upon its Yelp reviews, not realizing that it was basically a "hotel lobby restaurant". However, I was not disappointed. It had a typical gastropub menu with a few less typical items. Due to not having a reservation, we were sat at the bar (which I am fine with). We opted for the crab hush puppies (which were recommended by the bartender) and an order of biscuits. I also ordered the Double Fox burger. The crab hush puppies did not disappoint. They were crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. I'm not usually a fan of tartar sauce, but the sauce it was served with added a great zing. However, the biscuits were a bit disappointing. Dry and overcooked. My burger was also amazing. Great flavor, well cooked, and the toppings were well placed and not overdone. I can't say enough about the service by the two bartenders. Both were constantly checking in on us, giving us candid opinions on the menu selections, and just overall pleasant. Even though we were disappointed by the biscuits, I would still highly recommend this establishment based on the quality and flavor of the other food we enjoyed. Came here with my roommates after a night of shopping at mag mile. We had a good time! Service was super friendly and the water was never empty too long since a waiter came by to fill it up frequently. We also did the yelp check-in offer to get some complimentary biscuits (which were delicious and filling - order accordingly!) I ordered the fried avocado salad (half order) and the carbonara. Both were delicious. The fried avocado salad would have been better in my opinion if it wasn't deep fried. The carbonara was super yummy - liked the bread crumbs on it (wish they put a little more) but it tasted delicious the next day too! I also ordered the fox mule - it was yummy! My friends ordered the fried avocado salad, tacos, burger, and porterhouse. All enjoyed their food however my friend made the same comment about the fried avocado and the fries. The fries were cold and tasted like they were made in the morning ('leftover' style fries). We told the waitress and she was super awesome and had them make us a fresh batch of fries. The 2nd batch of fries was better but only by a small margin since it just was warmer. My friends and I think that the kitchen doesn't change the oil in the deep frier enough which is why all the fried stuff we had tasted not so great. What would have made a 'great' time vs a good time would have been (1) faster serving time -- we waited about 50 minutes for our food and (2) deep fried stuff was subpar -- kitchen needs to change the deep fryer oil more frequently. read more

We ordered drinks, had the #16 Biscuits (Yelp Check-In offer, don't miss it!) and ordered the macaroni & cheese. We had intentions to order entrees, but they gave us so much macaroni, that we couldn't fathom eating any more! This is definitely an appetizer for a party of 4, not 2! Just a heads up -- I was actually really sad that I had no room for the Shrimp & Crab roll that I planned to order. One thing I would like to say regarding the Mac & Cheese: Copper Fox gets it. Yes it's attached to the Courtyard hotel, but if you're in the area you won't find much better food or drink for a reasonable price than Copper Fox. Atmosphere is upscale and there is a good amount of bar area seating in addition to a dining room where I have admittedly never sat. I have sat at the bar many times - by myself but also with my wife and with co-workers - and always had great food and cocktails. I'm not a beer drinker but they seem to have some nice local stuff the wine list is small but generally well chosen. It's not fancy, but the portions are typically large and my food & drink has always been well executed. Plus the prices are very reasonable for the area. Bravo, very well done! read more

This review is so difficult to write because although the bar set up was awful ******* I would highly recommend the plated food. I went here on a Friday night around 6:00 with a friend and we were able to be seated right away with no reservations. At first I was thrown off because it looked sort of like a semi-fancy hotel restaurant, but their were quite a few families there with kids. It's hard to explain the vibe. This review is strictly for the food cause we didn't order any cocktails, but the mules do look amazing and I'll have to try one if I'm back out this way again. We decided to order everything to share: Biscuits - Okay - I know their known for their biscuits, but I've had some killer biscuits in my lifetime and prefer the ones that sort of melt in your mouth like butter. These were on the hard/crispy side. Crab Cakes - I'm a fan! I like the sauce they came with as well. Mac and Cheese - Again I LOvE Mac and Cheese and it was missing something. We were thinking maybe more bread crumbs or a kick of flavor. Fried Avocado Salad - DELICIOUS! The combination of all the flavors and ingredients worked well. I'm not a huge fan of corn, but I liked it in the salad. Brussels Sprouts - Charred nicely on the outside, but hard on the inside. We brought that to their attention and they took care of us. The dipping sauce elevates it. 5/5 Fried avocado salad - got this bc the fried avocado was wanted, but a salad too. It was better than I expected. Everything you want out of a biscuit. It comes with honey butter which adds a nice subtle sweetness to it. 5/5 Calamari - my boyfriend adores these. They're super crispy, hot, and the tartar sauce that comes with it is exactly how we like it - lemony/citrusy!! We'll always get these. 5/5 Pork porterhouse - this is very delicious when cooked properly. The first time we were here they undercooked it. Second time was a little over, but still good. The chorizo crema adds a nice smokiness and saltiness to the dish. The brussel sprouts are super crispy, salty, and adds a nice element to brighten the heaviness of the sauce. I'd recommend. 4/5 Nutella brownie - this was my favorite dish of the night. The brownie came out warm and gooey - pure perfection. It also came with hazelnut gelato and drizzles of caramel. It wasn't overly sweet which I really enjoyed. I'd order again and again. 5/5 Service is decent. The place is cute. It's located in a hotel, actually. Copper Fox has some pretty amazing bites! The interior is very comfortable and the service was spectacular. Beginning with the food we got the biscuits (free with a yelp check in!), avocado fries salad, steak sandwich, roasted brussel sprouts salad with added salmon, and fish tacos. I really think that the star of the show was the biscuits and the brussel sprouts salad. The biscuits were warm, flakey, and with a nice crust on the outside. Rich with butter but not so much that it was overwhelming, the biscuits are a must for any table. My only reservation is that the biscuits would be much better if served with a jam to cut the denseness a bit, but nonetheless still a fantastic starter. The brussel sprouts and kale salad was also delicious, with the added salmon (which was huge and only about $6 extra), this salad was definitely one of the better ones ive had. The avocado fries salad and steak sandwich was alright. Admittingly the fish tacos were a little on the dry side and I wish they used a single, larger fried fish filet instead of multiple smaller ones. Still, Copper Fox is a great option if you're in the area and looking for a nice bite in a pretty setting! read more

Came here for lunch with my friends and was a little disappointed at first because there was only a brunch menu on Sunday...that chicken sandwich looked so good! My disappointment didn't last long once I realized that after you check in on yelp, you get a complimentary order of their #16 biscuits! Even if you had to pay for them, they are SO worth it! The perfect amount of flakiness, puffiness and crunch on the edge. The butter seemed to have some honey in it too, making it even better. Highly recommended. For my meal I ordered the Morning Fox Burger...sooo delicious! I honestly wasn't expecting much, but it had the perfect combination of meat cooked to order, a tasty bun, and a savory collection of toppings and sauce that complimented each other perfectly. Mine was gone in about 2 minutes. For my side I ordered their house made chips, and they were delicious! Great alternative to fries. My friends had the "brunch" side of the menu and had chicken and waffles. Looked pretty great to me! More food than they could eat. They had already set up a huge round table for us, but I wanted something a bit more intimate, especially since only 5 of us were going to show. They had no problem seating us elsewhere! My friends had some beers on draught which they enjoyed. I'd definitely just get a beer next time, for price sake. Food (great): We ordered a couple appetizers which were delicious - Brussels sprouts were some of the best I've ever had! We also got the crab hush puppies which were just okay. Couldn't really taste the crab. I ordered the black bean burger for dinner, which was one of the best I've had! It was hearty, great taste, and packed with protein, which is important for me as a vegetarian. My friends got burgers, fish tacos, and chicken sandwiches. The fish tacos were pretty small for the price, so I'd stay away from those. But otherwise all but one plate was clean. I felt a little limited because most of the prices were so high, but I'm so so glad I got my black bean burger! Ambience: upscale, crowded on a Friday. Enjoyable for after work get together. This was our breakfast on day one of our Chicago trip. We got free biscuits with the Yelp coupon and I'm really glad we tried them. Probably the best biscuits I've had, and I could have drank the housemade strawberry jam. I got the Huevos Rancheros and it was amaZing. My sister and I ordered one of each and split! The French toast is delicious but sweet so it may have been hard for me to eat the whole thing so I'm glad we split. All the food was great though and $3 mimosas you cannot beat! A manager (I think) came by our table to see if everything was okay and spoke to us for a couple minutes. A little torn in my review. Some parts of my dining experience were truly top notch. Some not so much. I booked via open table last night here for 7pm. I was greeted with a smile and taken to an excellent table. Our server was friendly, and asked us if we wanted drinks within 2 minutes of sitting. Also excellent. I ordered a Fall Ball and my fiance ordered a local IPA. The cocktails were priced at $11, which is reasonable for the area. Also, great depth of flavor. We claimed the $6 biscuits (free with the yelp checkin) which were quite delicious and served in a mini cast iron skillet on a wood board. We decided to go slightly tapas style and get a bunch of shareables: - mac and cheese: supposedly made with gouda, this kind of fell flat and one dimensional. It felt like spiced up boxed mac and cheese sauce and it started coagulating halfway through the meal. Not really ideal. - calamari fries: This was excellent. great dipping sauce. Sliced from a squid steak and gently battered. I would go for these alone. - brussel sprouts: disappointing. overly seasoned, overly greasy. I couldn't even take more than a bite. - fried avocado salad: plentiful, large, lots of toppings, not overly dressed. The service was generally excellent. My one pickle was that I had motioned the waiter to come over after finishing my first cocktail and as I handed my empty glass to him, asked for a drink menu. He apparently didn't seem to be listening so my fiance walked over to him and tried to correct the misunderstanding (we were under the impression he thought i just wanted another), and asked for a drink menu. This is a pretty nice happy hour spot-not the best I've been to but not bad especially for the location. The lounge is really cute and they have some good happy hour deals till 6:30. We got the $5 Moscow mule and glass of wine but wasn't really feeling anything by the end of it so I feel like the alcohol was minimal in the mule. We ordered the $5 avocado fries, calimari bites, and the brussel sprouts. They were not huge cuz it's a happy hour portion but pretty filling for two people. The calamari fries were DELICIOUS and I would get these at full price. The rest was fairly standard. All in all it was a good place to catch up with a friend over inexpensive eats and drinks. They were not very crowded on a weekday and service was decent. We had to flagdown the waiter a couple times but everything came out on time. We love the Copper Fox. Typically restaurants within hotels are overpriced with just "okay" food, but not here! The copper fox is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. We love the Brussels sprout salad, the biscuits, and the steak frites! The service is always prompt and friendly, and the food is always great. The prices are fine for what you get. Typically a manager is making the rounds checking on whether the patrons are satisfied with their food/experience. More restaurants should be like this! We will definitely be back! read more
