Swung in for dinner before a company party on January 21. We decided, since we were heading to the party, that we'd split some small plates. This was probably a good idea in theory, but we still over-ordered, and everything was so delicious that we couldn't stop ourselves. I started with the Copper Fox Mule, which is smoky and made with Mezcal. It was delicious. As was the Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese, but not together. (You should still totally get them both, just watch out for the order of your sips and nibbles.) We got the Kale Caesar and we're full on thrilled to see the kale was crispy - with all of the delicious food on our table, we both liked the salad the best. When does THAT happen?? The croutons were either too large to be easily chewed or were a bit stale, but we ate around them and didn't miss them. We got the Crab Cake which was paired with the only tartar sauce I've ever liked - very dilly and tangy. Just perfect. The crab cake was sweet and light. We checked in on Yelp and got a free order of the #16 Biscuits and the awesomeness of those biscuit has, I believe, been covered in previous tips and reviews. But still, I have to talk about them. Tall, flaky, topped with Maldon sea salt flames and served with a honey butter, these guys will haunt you. I'm writing this review the following Sunday from home in New Orleans and wishing I had some of those biscuits. I wonder if they ship? We left our comfy table and headed to the bar. My husband had a great time looking at the alcohols behind the bar and asking the bartender about bottles he didn't recognize (he does this) and I had a Sazerac that tasted like it had Fireball in it. It was quite unpleasant, and I should've known better. It's just that the Mule was good, I was excited to see what else was shaking over there. There had been a Fireball shooting bachelorette party on the side of the bar where my drink was made, so I don't know if there was mist or blowback or what, but there was not Fireball listed on the ingredients on the menu, but there was definitely Fireball in that drink. Maybe their Rye is cinnamony? I don't know. It didn't ruin the evening or the experience, but it definitely made us hail a cab quicker than we may have. All in all, a great evening. Avoid the Sazerac, get the biscuits, and definitely get some biscuits to go. You're gonna want those bad boys later. read more

Really cute decor and overall feel of the restaurant. The food was okay, but the service was pretty good. We had some issues with some of our dishes and our waitress resolved them immediately. Came here for lunch with a friend. We started off with the biscuits, which were served with whipped honey butter. They were FREE with yelp check-in, so they're a must. They were very fluffy and delicious. The butter was a little bit too sweet for me. Before my main dish, I ordered the calamari fries (I really wanted to try them). They were served with a citrus aioli sauce - they were probably my favorite part of the meal. They were very flavorful and crispy. For my main dish I went with the Fried Avocado Salad - tomatoes, candied jalapenos, pickled onions, corn, cotija cheese, and cholula ranch. I thought that the dressing was a little bit too overpowering and too sweet. I should have gotten it on the side. The salad itself was huge and pretty flavorful. The fried avocado was a nice touch. I would come back to Copper Fox Gastropub again to try something different and order the calamari fries again if I was in the neighborhood. read more

Zero star! Don't waste your time and money here. They ran out so many menu items at noon. The food is below par for the price. The service is definitely the worst part. Waiter never checked in with us nor apologize for only giving us half order of a full order we put in. He told us with indifference that we will only be charged half for that they ran out of the ingredients to make the full order. And he never apologized for taking almost an hour to serve our orders. The manager/supervisor had to step in to "fix it" -- taking the order off our check. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Absolutely loved this place! Great service and even better food. If you check in on Yelp you receive a free order of their biscuits (which you'll really want to do, considering they're the best biscuits on this planet). We started with a really great macaroni and cheese appetizer, then I had the scallops and a few very refreshing Moscow mules. The scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly. It came with a small side salad that didn't really have any flavor, but the scallops and biscuits filled me up anyway so I didn't mind. The entrees are a great serving size, especially because the menu is very fairly priced. Will definitely return if I'm back in Chicago any time soon. read more

This is a great place. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the food that we ordered. First, the biscuits were AMAZING! Fresh, hot and slightly crispy. Combined with the honey butter.....WOW! Regular order comes with 3, but since we had our two girls the server bumped it up to 4. Secondly, the Gouda Mac and Cheese was hot, tasty, crunchy crumbles on top and had a slight bite (which I loved....but my wife....not so much. ) Kid friendly and ambience was very nice. We split the avocado salad between two, it was massive! Then i ordered the shrimp and crab lump roll, and I must say, it was delicious and filling! They have a good beer selection! I had a saison which was okay. I tasted the chicken avocado sandwich, it was very well breaded with a thin, crispy layer, and not at all oily. The price is a little bit too much for the actual dishes, despite it being tasty. The customer service was pretty great, very kind and attentive. I wouldn't not visit again. read more

The Good This place just opened not too long ago. Located in the Courtyard Chicago it is chic, intimate and oh-so-good. The Better Service was great. Our server made great recommendations and was also able to accommodate the #16 Biscuits without the bacon bits (you can also call ahead of time to see if they have a batter available). And were they worth every carb and calorie. Served with a side of honey butter they biscuits are great. The Best We ordered the Classic Burger, Fish tacos and Mac and Cheese The burger was perfect. Ordered medium+ and it was juicy, flavorful and a hefty patty for the $12 price. Served with steak fries which were also great. Fish tacos were good, not great. They lacked a citrus/creamy component which made them a little dry. Baked Gouda Mac and cheese was creamy, gooey and the portion was great for sharing. Really great flavor and not overpowered by the gouda. Overall, with the combination of the ambiance, menu and taste of the food it was a place I would like to come back to and try other items on their menu. read more

I've been meaning to visit Copper Fox Gastropub for awhile and tonight o finally got the chance. Our server Chloe had an awesome personality and made us feel very welcomed. The food at Copper Fox is pretty darn good and we there with stomachs that we're happy and stuffed. We had *Biscuits - were light and fluffy. The honey butter that came with them was so good. And we got them for free when we checked in on Yelp...score! (4 stars) *Calamari Fries - were delicious. I liked how they came out looking sorta like mozzarella sticks. I did not like the tarter sauce that came with it. I think marinara sauce would go better. (4 stars) *Crispy Chicken Sandwich - was beyond good. It was truly crispy..in a great way. And the chicken was juicy. I'd definitely get this again. (4 stars) *Fish Tacos - were fantastic said my dining companion. He said they were the best he's ever had. Great place for dinner in this area. Don't get thrown off by the fact that it's connected to a hotel, the food here is delicious. With a Yelp check-in, you can try their homemade biscuits and sweet butter - this is the best form of elevated bread and butter! Items I've really enjoyed are the mac'n'cheese, fish tacos, calamari app, and fried avocado. Everything is cooked and seasoned well with the waiter/waitress checking in to make sure you are satisfied with your meal. They have a happy hour which seems like a good value on paper, but they just give you smaller portions of their appetizer menu. Good for those who just want a small nibble or want to try something before going all in on the whole order, but most everything they have here has been on point so I'd say go for the full order. This is a cuter/fancier place than a typical "gastropub." I came here for some mid-afternoon snacks and although happy hour wasn't happening at that time, the menu did look pretty good. Pro tip: if you check in with your Yelp app, you can get a free order of biscuits (trust me, it's worth it - these are perfectly buttery with a hint of rosemary). We also got the brussell sprouts and crab hush puppies and both dishes were so good! My only negative about this place was the slow service. This is an excellent spot for a 7th anniversary brunch! As you should know, the traditional gift theme for the big 7th year is copper, so why not come to the Copper Fox for delicious food?! We had the biscuits which are super crispy and taste glorious. The Eggs Benedict was a little on the runny side for my wife's liking, but still very good. I had the Huevos Rancheros and have to admit, this is a difficult dish to make well, but the Copper Fox did a really good job with it. My wife and I stopped in the Copper Fox on our most recent visit to Chicago!! Wanted somewhere more upscale than a tavern but nothing too fancy that we had to make a point to dress it up for lunch. I ended up here after attempting to get service elsewhere to no avail. At the other place, I went to the bar, sat down. Made eye contact with the bartender, asked for a menu and was left. Alone. 5 mins pass. Almost 10 mins pass. And at first I was going to be more forceful but then I asked myself: "Why should I have to flag someone down and beg them for the opportunity for me to give them my money?" Yelp pointed me to Copper Fox and it did not disappoint. I come into Copper Fox, sit down a the bar and am immediately acknowledged and given a menu. Said menu actually has happy hour - or rather, "The Fox's Hour". Also bonus. I opted for the Barman's Banquet because it seemed like the most bang for my buck and I ordered a biscuit because everyone at the bar and on yelp seem to be crazy about them. And for good reason! Seriously, it's better if you just have one than for me to struggle with my terrible amateur food critique. I enjoyed my meal, the service was prompt and professional and I had a pleasant dining experience for a good price (for the area). So, after some heavy shopping my boyfriend and I got hungry and decided to stop here. Upon entry, the decor seemed fancy but yet the ambiance was inviting and casual. We were seated right away in what I would consider one of the best tables in the restaurant without reservations. We decided to sit next to each other in the bench seat where they have a charger outlet attached to the side of the arm. What great foresight and thinking to do this! So many times I wished there was an outlet for me to charge my phone at with the convenience of it being at my table. Our waitress, Celeste was very sweet and made sure we were enjoying our food and kept the refills coming. The prices are comparable for the area. We checked in on Yelp and got the biscuits, which was totally worth me curbing my no-carb diet for. I was only going to have one bite, but ended up eating half of it making myself stop. I got the pork porterhouse and my boyfriend got the prime strip, and both were absolutely fantastic. It was quite and indulgent lunch. What made the experience memorable was Chef Courtney coming out and talking with us. I think he went by every table. When he came out the first time we talked biscuits and my boyfriend mentioned how he loves KFC's and now this is his favorite. I asked about the brussell sprouts and he told me that they deep fried them. I typically pan fry or roast them and so this makes sense as to how the ones here are so crispy and addicting. Surprisingly Chef Courtney came back to bring me the spicy ones with jalapenos and vinegar and they were amazing. I love the combination of the tangy and spicy. I now am cooking mine like this, but not deep fried for the sake of saving some calories. After I slathered most of my slices of pork in the chipotle sauce that came on the plate I moved on to my boyfriend's bbq sauce that came with his steak because I love really good sauces. My boyfriend and I wanted to come back for dinner. It was so refreshing to be able to talk with the person that cares about connecting with the people enjoying their meal prepared by the staff there. It wasn't a pretentious conversation either it was very genuine and comfortable. He told us that the servers actually get tested on the menu so they have to know their stuff. I will have to quiz them the next time I'm there. Ha! I have been telling people at work about this place, and have plans to take my family here next time they are in town. I always like to try new places so it's tough to get me to come back, so this is certainly an exceptional place in my book. I think the hotel is lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant. After being at a near by movie theater, my friend had mentioned this restaurant just recently opened up and so we thought we'd check it out. Granted, this restaurant is at the base of the Courtyard by Marriott, so you may miss the entrance or think it's just another hotel's restaurant with bland food and poor service, let me tell you it is not. We were greeted by the hostess and were seated right away. Our server, Christopher (I believe - Sorry that I didn't remember his name) had greeted us, went over the menu and took our cocktail order. The menu is limited, however, I felt they had enough items to choose from. Upon the servers, return, we were ready to order. My friend had a wrap and I had the Salmon entree. I had asked the tomato sauce to be placed on the side. Our food was brought to us within 15 minutes or so (due to the fish). The entrees were excellent. The server would check in with us. Of course, we had to try a dessert. We had the Strawberry Shortcake. OMG, it was a great way to end a great meal. The biscuits were salty and with the strawberries it was just excellent. The next day, we were still talking about those biscuits. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the food and service!! Looking forward to my next meal. read more

Heavily recommend starting with their craft cocktails - great break from all the beer heavy bars. My favorite was the "lime" one but you could easily do it right with a craft Moscow Mule. Pro Tip: recommend #16 biscuits anytime of day burnt to a crisp with a little bacon fat and served with savory house butter, wow! The entrees were solid, recommend burger over the chicken sandwich. A nice addition to the food options available around Northwestern hospital! I've been here a few times now and have to first compliment the service - always impeccable. Everyone from the hostess, to the waiters, and even the chefs - who came to ask how our meal was on a few occasions - were incredibly nice. It's a great place to sit and catch up with friends vs. the other similar dining options nearby options: Greenriver is pricey, Beatrix is always busy and requires reservations, and the Windsor is strangely dark inside. As for the most important part: the food, it's pretty good so far! Anything between buns has been delicious and perfectly cooked, such as the Fox Burger and the Crispy Chicken. They're also reasonably priced. The biscuits are a bit of a letdown; everyone I've eaten here with always brings up the comparison with Popeye's biscuits, which win the battle every time (probably due to the copious amounts of butter and salt they use). But If you checkin here on Yelp you get free biscuits! You don't get that at Popeyes. The biggest disappointment on the menu thus far has been the pan roasted salmon. It was overcooked and didn't have much flavor to it. I didn't want to take the leftovers home with me, which says a lot because I'm all about leftovers! The drinks can be pricey, and in some cases they're more expensive than your entree. But the crafted cocktails are delicious and are whipped up fast. Also important to mention: Northwestern employees get 20% off! Found that out by accident during my most recent visit there when my badge was randomly laying on the table top. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you're around Northwestern's downtown campus. read more

Came here for a quick brunch stop. The food here is delicious and well cooked. We got the biscuits with butter and jam, which was delicious. I also got the omelette of the day, which was a "World Cup" omelette with mushrooms and truffle oil. The omelette itself was delicious. However, the menu stated it comes with cheesy potato pancake and I just got hash browns. It's not a big deal, but the hash browns were very average. Also I didn't realize this place is literally attached to a hotel so it's basically the restaurant of the hotel. There's nothing wrong with that, but you can kind of tell when you walk in. If you want a quick brunch, this is definitely worth a try. But it's not anything out of the ordinary. read more

It was immediately a warm and cozy atmosphere...looking festive for the holidays! Our server Lindsay was knowledgeable, flexible and attentive - allowing me tastes of a couple beers before I chose to order a full pint, and carefully going over the menu to ensure we knew about staff and customer favorites prior to ordering. I read a review suggesting that the #16 biscuits were on the salty side, which is true - but paired with the honey butter they are absolutely divine!! We went on a Wednesday night and were seated without a problem around 6:00 pm however, the dining room had filled up considerably by the time we left, I imagine a reservation on the weekends wouldn't hurt! Ambiance is amazing and makes the Copper Fox somewhere to come after work for a drink in the lounge that feels upscale but accessible. While the dining area is more formalized and perfect for date nights! All in all I was thoroughly impressed and plan on coming back often! read more

A few co-workers and I called to see if it was busy and would need a reservation... The lady on the phone said no it was not busy at all... That was far from the case. We arrived and had to wait 40 minutes to get a table... Not only that, we ended up just sitting at the bar. What's confusing is, there was really no one in the restaurant, so I'm not sure what the issue was. We finally got our orders in, but it took maybe an hour or more for our food to come out. The server/bartender told us "it got busy all of a sudden" ... again, not many people there. When our food arrived, everyone's was cold. You could tell it had just been sitting there and forgotten about. The only reason I'm giving this place a two star is because the drinks were ok at best. My husband took me here for our anniversary and it was da bomb! Not only were we pleasantly surprised that a friend of ours was our waiter but the food was absolutely delicious! Our friend recommended a few of his favorites from the menu, one being the Brussels sprouts as a starter which we got. They were perfect, jalapeños are actually one of my favorite foods and they came candied on top of the sprouts. The perfect mix of sweet and spicy! The main entrees were a hit too, I had the mahi mahi fish tacos and my husband had the fox burger. Definitely would recommend people to come here for a bite or drink. I almost always eschew hotel restaurants, but this is not just an ordinary hotel restaurant (despite being on the first floor of the Courtyard). The food here is actually quite excellent. The biscuits and gravy for breakfast is outstanding. I also had a catered lunch at my conference at the hotel that was excellent -- I'm guessing it was from the same kitchen. Service was very prompt, with a gracious hostess to seat you and a waiter to take your order immediately. My only complaint is the coffee. It was dark, bitter. Not sure what brand, but tasted like Starbucks or thereabouts. Why must all hotel coffee be bad? Can't any hotel use a decent micro-roaster? read more

The hostess pointed out outlets next to our booth in case any of us needed to charge our phones. Everything arrived quickly, and the staff made sure our water glasses were full during the wait. The biscuits were hands-down the best I have ever eaten. They were perfectly flaky with a soft center. They were served in small cast iron dishes with a side of honey butter. The deviled eggs were equally impressive. They were tooped with a tiny piece of bacon which pulled the flavors together. For dinner, our table went with the Fox Burger, the Classic Burger, Kale Caesar Salad, a Shrimp and Crab Roll, and a side of Fried Avocado. Everything was outstanding and perfectly cooked. We loved that members of the kitchen team walked through the dining room inquiring about the food. It added a personal touch and made it seem that the truly care about the customer's experience.
