Yum! We were in the food for a variety of food, so we searched for Gastropubs in the area. We decided on the Copper Fox. We booked a reservation on Open Table and were quickly seated when we arrived. The restaurant was cute and the staff was nice and attentive. I got the jam mule to drink. It was really good! We got the biscuits (free from checking in on yelp), and they were SO good. We also got the Brussels sprouts. They candied jalapeños were obviously spicy (thank goodness they left the jar of water on the table) but it balanced well with the Brussels sprouts and sherry vinegar. We split the fish tacos. They were a little different than we expected, but really good. We were stuffed after dinner and really didn't spend a ton of money. Great experience here! read more

If you are visiting Chicago and looking for a great place to chill, have a good drink and eat some unique food, this place is for you. I sat on the patio one evening this summer. The staff was friendly, prompt and not pushing us out. Although it may seem odd to order biscuits as an appetizer, do it. They are the type of food that you dream of and come back for, fluffy, buttery, salty and served with incredible butter. After wrecking myself with that, I decided to order the fried avacado salad with grilled chicken. It was an amazing blend of textures and flavors. The meat is cooked very well, the crispy onions really adds to the flavor and texture making it very satisfying overall. It was somehow even more delicious this time. An update to my previous review--the customer service was top notch this time, Dominic (the manager) was very personable and went above and beyond to accommodate us and make us feel comfortable. Drinks were refilled promptly and special requests on each burger were made to perfection. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. This is a great place! We came during happy hour (3:30-6:30) and got some really nice deals. We started off with free biscuits after checking in on Yelp. These were incredible and reminded me of the south, served with honey butter. We also got brussel sprouts off of the happy hour menu, which were cooked perfectly. For the main course we got a turkey and avocado sandwich with rosemary chips, which was AMAZING. We also got the crispy chicken sandwich (the reason they didn't get 5 stars) and french fries. Our least favorite place of the past 3 nights. Deviled eggs too salty (and, trust me, I'm a salt hound); crab hush puppies not enough crab, cornmeal too sweet, not enough salt, and no spice--all needed; Caesar salad barely any dressing and certainly no anchovy. Burger and fries probably the best dish. Service very gracious and attentive. Cocktails ok; I'd hoped the Chicago 35 would have been stronger, but I understand the idea of catering to the crowd. With the large amount of restaurants in the area, Copper Fox is one of my top picks to grab a filling and delicious meal. The restaurant offers a variety of food normally seen at an American restaurant, but they stand out by executing dishes flawlessly. The location is actually part of a hotel, so finding the entrance is not as pronounced as one would expect. However once you get in you can see the space is extremely large and decorated pretty modern. They have a bar area, but I'm more inclined to have a seat at one of the tables. My top picks: #16 Biscuits 4.5/5: Oh my these biscuits are something. They are flaky and warm and just oh so good. They come topped with sea salt (a little too much, but nothing a couple flicks can't fix) and a side of whipped honey butter which just makes each bite delicious. Oh and did I say that you get them for FREE with a yelp check in. That's all that needs to be said. Calamari Fries 5/5: So this is probably my favorite thing on the menu even though it's pretty simple. The breading on them are crisp and crunchy, while the inside is always cooked to perfection. However, the part that makes these amazing for me is that they come with charred lemon to squeeze on it and a side of citrus aioli. Now you probably don't know me, but I love citrus with the fiery passion of 1000 suns. Seriously, I put lemon on almost everything. So whenever I take a bite of these fries they are coated with the lemon and dip, making them perfect for me. Fried Avocado/Fried Avocado Salad 4/5: So I don't think you can ever go wrong with having fried avocado. They are battered similar to the calamari fries, so they definitely have a crisp crunch to them. However underneath it's crispy exterior is a smooth and creamy avocado center that just works so well. It also comes with a delicious side to dip it in that really makes it a treat. The reason I paired this with the salad is that me and the girlfriend decided to get the Fried Avocado salad as a way to get the fried avocado, and have something green and fresh with our meal (we really were indulging in way too much food without an ounce of vegetables). The salad is pretty unique with the candied jalapenos (they really are sweet, which is kinda weird at first but I've grown to like it) and cotija cheese. I think for 5 dollars more it's a good way to get some greens into a pretty heavy meal. I would recommend asking for the Cholula ranch on the side so you can use it to dip your avocado in and control how much you want on your salad. Pork Porterhouse 4/5: So this one is a huge slab of meat with a nice amount of charred brussels sprouts. The meat is enough for two people to share and when cooked perfectly (I have had times of under/overcooked pork here) it really is a delicious entree to add to a meal. The chorizo sauce adds a good smokey flavor to the dish and I absolutely love the brussels sprouts because of that char they have. This dish is pretty pricey, however if you're really hungry and want a thick slab of meat I would recommend it. Nutella Brownie with hazelnut gelato 4.5/5: So this dessert is always a wonderful way to end a meal. The brownie is actually not very sweet, which works perfectly with the rest of the components. The hazelnut gelato is perfectly smooth and delicious to pair with the warm brownie. And to top it off they have a caramel drizzle that adds the right amount of sweetness to the dish as a whole. Overall it's amazingly balanced in the flavors and sweetness. The food here can definitely get a little heavy, but you leave with a smile and a belly full and content. The service has been nothing but great, with servers that are friendly and prompt. I highly recommend everyone to come here to grab a bite. read more

I attended an event that was hosted at the Copper Fox a few years ago, and have been coming back ever since. The Fox burger is delicious and is always cooked to my liking. To make things even better, they use Creekstone beef (it's halal certified)! I've had other menu items, and they were all good, but the Fox burger is definitely my go-to option. We only planned on having one drink and ended staying for a few rounds with apps to go with. They have amazing apps to choose from including free biscuits I got for checking in. This is a hidden gem on Ontario just off Michigan. We couldn't find the pizza restaurant we were looking for, saw this instead, tucked into a hotel lobby and thought we would try it despite our aversion to most hotel food. I had the best crab cake outside of Maryland I've had anywhere! I try them many places, hoping to find an authentic Maryland crab cake and am mostly disappointed. The waiter correctly told me that theirs had a bare minimum of filling (see photo). Crisp outside, moist tender lump crab inside - heaven! My husband also raved about his hamburger. The ambiance is part sports bar with 4-5 big screen tvs with a proper dining area at which there was not seating that afternoon. The hightop that we sat at, however, was comfortable. Great service - thanks for the crab cake recommendation! Update - they no longer offer the crab cake but still have some excellent offerings. read more

Very bright and family dinner style oriented for a downtown hotel burger bar, lots of large tables separated from the bar area. I'd give 3.5 if Yelp would let me. Tried this new-ish place last night before seeing a movie at River East. It's only a few blocks from the theater. So, we decided to give it a shot before seeing a scary flick. My first impression of CFG is that the decor is a little upscale for a Gastropub. That's not intended to be a negative comment. I'd expected something like the Gage or Longman & Eagle, and instead it looks more like a slightly more casual RPM Steak. They do a good job of hiding the fact that it's in a hotel lobby, and the place does feel pretty intimate--but not at all stuffy. Front of the house service was great. We didn't get any drinks, as we were trying to stay awake for a later movie, but we ordered a large selection of apps: BISCUITS: amaaaaaazing--probably some of the best this southern gal has ever had CRAB HUSH PUPPIES: really great texture but the crab was imperceptible DEVILED EGGS: delicious and well-seasoned, loved the chorizo CALAMARI FRIES: not sure what I was expecting with these, but I paused halfway through my first bite because I was a little caught off by the thickness, the chewiness, and the lack of flavor We also got the FRIED AVOCADO salad (which the kitchen forgot to send out until our entrees appeared; they also forgot the calamari fries but credited us for those). The salad was really bland, which was disappointing. I'm not even sure it was dressed at all. Our table split the FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH, which was really good, and the BURGER, which was decent but was over-cooked--nothing to write home about. So, my review is mixed. While I was initially very impressed by the ambiance and the first couple of apps, the meal seemed to go downhill as the courses progressed. It's not that the food was bad, it's just that it didn't really live up to the picture the restaurant was trying to paint. read more

I can't imagine how their rating is so high! We didn't complain but we won't be back. BTW, whole plates of food went back and no one even asked why or how it was. We started off with biscuits and the Mac n cheese... And that cheesy goodness did not disappoint!!! We both ordered sandwiches as well. The ingredients were very fresh. My turkey avacado had a generous portion if meat, while my SO got the steak sandwich, which was a bit disappointing in portion but still good. Service was friendly but rather slow. This Yelp page of this restaurant is rather misleading as it gives this place has 4 stars. This is literally just a hotel lobby restaurant; very no-frills and corporate-feeling. Their brunch menu looks good when you read it, but upon receiving our food we were shocked by the small portions, burnt bacon, and cold food. Not to mention, two of us ordered their Eggs Benedict which says it comes with grilled asparagus but there was no asparagus in either of our orders. Don't let the nice photos of their food on their website fool you, this is a very plain lobby restaurant that can't even stay true to their menu descriptions. The only saving grace was that since I made a reservation for a party of 5, we were seated at our own meeting-style round table that was in its own room. This was nice and convenient and allowed for us to talk without being surrounded by lobby noise. Honestly, if you're not staying at this hotel, don't even bother dining here. read more

It was a big place and pretty fancy, but it was really empty on a Friday night. It doesn't really give out a hipster vibe, but it's upscale. I was worried that this is one of those hotel restaurant that look good but tastes bad, you know. Anyway, the chairs were comfortable and the lighting were not too bright. Service: Excellent. The servers were very friendly but doesn't speak in a super high pitch which I hate. They seemed laid back and were very informative. At one point the Chef came out and started cracking jokes. hahaha. It was a pleasant experience with them. Food: AMAZINGLY GOOD. We started with the free BISCUITS, they were really good. really good. Warm with a little crispiness. It comes in a hot cast iron pan with honey butter. I'm really touched that they kept these goodies warm. #tears And then we had MAC N CHEESE. I'm usually not a fan of Mac and Cheese (Sorry!) But But But their Mac and Cheese is goooood! It's nothing fancy with no meat and stuff, but they used long curly macaroni which made it el dente even after a while. and they added the right amount of crumbs to it so the texture was great! For entrees, we had VEGGIE RISOTTO, and SEAFOOD ROLL. Man...they were huge and sooo darn good. The veggie risotto looked small from yelp photos, but it came out to be huge, and the plating looks good! it was cooked to perfect with perfect taste and texture. My seafood roll was filled with fresh crab meat and shrimps. It also comes with a side of chips. The key to seafood roll is the soft and buttered brioche roll and fresh seafood, they were able to do both. Brioche roll was grilled to perfection so it was slightly crunchy on the end, seafood was really fresh and the size was very generous. We also ordered the avocado fries, they were okay. The fries itself was tasteless, it came with a dressing, but I didn't like the dressing so much. But it could be because we were just way too full. This restaurant surprised me :) I'll make sure to come back here next time when I'm in Chicago. read more

This is one of my favorite meals I had in Chicago! I didn't realize Copper Fox was in / adjacent to a hotel when I chose it, so I was slightly disappointed when I arrived - not all hotel food is created equal! However, that hesitancy was totally misplaced... Copper Fox absolutely blew me away! The staff was helpful and so nice. I was seated and served quickly. I started with a biscuit and red wine off the happy hour menu. Both were great! The biscuit was fresh, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside goodness that was accompanied by (necessary) butter. Then I had the fried avocado and mac and cheese as my meal...I couldn't help myself! Let's just say they're popular dishes for a reason. The fried avocado was hot and crispy and paired very well with its sauce. The mac was so incredibly cheesy I can hardly put it into words! Normally fancy mac and cheese underwhelms me - it tastes like noodles with crispies on top, but this dish delivered! Plus it tasted great leftover. I HIGHLY recommend Copper Fox for your next happy hour or romantic evening out. You won't be disappointed! read more

One of my go-to's for breakfast. The huevos rancheros are simply amazing and the service is incredibly friendly. Reasonably priced for a place in the city. My one gripe is that the avocado toast needs something--I don't know if it's salt or lime or something but there is just something missing. Definitely worth trying if you're nearby or want something tasty delivered. Also, and most importantly, do not miss out on the biscuits which are incredible. read more
