This place has good comfort food. I went here for lunch for the first time. I had the chicken spaghetti with fried okra and black eye peas. Everything was excellent. I had enough for dinner. I definitely want to go back and try other items on the menu. Here is a cool tip! If you are a first time visitor, they provide you with a complimentary sampler of each lunch items. Serviceable. The wife and I both had the the Jumbo Crispy 'Shrooms with the "Shiner" fish and chips basket. What can I say? Fried is good. Fried is always almost awesome. Went to Cotton Patch Cafe twice. The second time was because the first time was so bad I thought it had to have been a fluke! On the first visit I had to ask the waitress for a new set of silverware twice because there was visible food stuck on them, BOTH SETS of utensils. When the plates came out, there was dried food from a failed dishwashing attempt on the plates. I had a hard time believing that wasn't noticed when the food was put on the plate itself. My companion ordered the meatloaf, which wasn't very good. I ordered a hamburger and fries and it was undercooked. I ended up eating it without ketchup because the waitress was upset that we were being so picky about the cleanliness, so she ignored us. The second occasion was on Mother's Day last month. I had to get up and get wrapped utensils from the waiters station because after the food was delivered the waitress went to get the utensils but didn't come back. The food, again, was disappointing. Little disappointed, just because food orders are curbside pickup doesn't mean it's okay to be sloppy with your product. I ordered a Cobb Salad, with no protein, what I got was a far cry from a Cobb Salad... it was basically all lettuce, one quarter slice of bacon instead of a hearty helping of chopped bacon, no tomatoes, and maybe 5 slivers of shredded carrot and an avocado that someone lazyily quartered and tossed in there. The good food brings us back, but if service was the only thing that kept them in business, they'd have to shut this location down. We frequently get "to go" orders to take to my elderly parents who are in an assisted living community. Mom loves Cotton Patch' chicken and dumplings, and Dad loves the fried shrimp. It's a real treat for them to have good food from outside their in-house dining room, so we get take out from Cotton Patch as often as we can. The last six to eight times we've done this, something in the order is wrong or left out. Yesterday's order had no rolls/bread four entrees, and a side order of cinnamon apples was paid for but left out. The time before, one entire entree was left out. They simply don't check, double-check, or triple-check orders before deciding they are complete. Yesterday we ordered online for curb side pick up as usual, but when we arrived and checked-in, the guy who answered the phone said they weren't doing curbside and told us we'd have to come in to pick up the order. Really? Then a) why didn't your app and/or web site (looked at both!) not mention that fact, and b) why did we watch a female employee deliver orders to two other cars? Realizing every industry is suffering staffing issues during the pandemic, it seems like management would work extra hard to be sure the service they deliver meets expectations since staffing problems most often spell service problems. If you're looking for comfort food, this place is for you. The food was super delicious, but I feel like I can't walk and need a nap immediately. Been here many times and food is decent, affordable and generally the service is as expected. Tonight the server was under trained, forgetful, slow and unorganized. After being in the not-even-half-full place for over an hour, their POS system went offline and they couldn't take our credit card. I was in from New Jersey visiting family....I researched family friendly restaurants and chose this...Although the food was good, the service was just mediocre.. Our meals came too quickly after the apps. Main courses were not handed to individual people, they were handed over the table, which could have led to a drop or spill. My husband ordered a beer....The server tried to hand it someone seated next to a 5 year old and it tilted, resulting in the whole thing spilling on the toddlers chair and all over....Big fail on the servers part. Every time I come to this location to pick up food for my wife there's always an issue. Either it's not ready at the designated time or it was cooked too early so the food is cold when we get it, wrong sides, and tonight is no different. I show up to pick up the order and they say they don't have the order. I walk back out to my car to get my phone and call my wife. She sends me the order confirmation and I walk it back in. What do they tell me? "Uh well we don't know what happened to your order but we can remake it real quick." No one said "I'm sorry" and no other effort was made to make it right. Meanwhile my food, which I picked up from another restaurant prior to, is in the car getting cold. They tell me they can remake it and it will only take 5 minutes. 15 minutes later my order is ready. When they hand me my order still no apology. There's only so much frustration I can express to a teenager, but I saw her tell the shift manager and he made no effort to apologize either. This is the only restaurant charging a 5% surcharge on the total of your meal costs. I went around the corner to Norma's Cafe which is usually good. Cotton PAtch is not organized any better since I was here a month ago. Seating customers timely is not a skill they are familiar with based on what I saw at 2:00 in the afternoon. I knew the old general manger that was there Caron Prosper. It was run well back then. I may check back in at Cotten Patch in 2022 to see if issues got fixed. read more

We visited the CPC in Frisco with friends on Sunday afternoon, March 18th. The restaurant was not crowded and we were quickly seated. My problem with the cafe: there's no more pot roast on the menu. What cafe doesn't have pot roast? It's the quintessential Sunday comfort food. In it's place are a slew of fried foods. BRING BACK THE POT ROAST! All the fried foods on the menu are just no substitute. My husband's and friend's problem: They both ordered the Cobb Salad. What was served was a salad short on groceries of every kind. They got a small salad in a large bowl. We were wondering, "Where's the veggies"? They were told that they received a normal Cobb portion. It appeared to be a typical restaurant slight-of-hand... raise prices while pretending you're giving your customers their money's worth by serving the food in large bowls. And the new generic, one-restaurant-design-fits-all is cold, colorless and could be located anywhere. Nothing on the inside feels like a friendly, local neighborhood establishment. read more

Two words. Fried Mushrooms. Need I say more ? Seriously, this place makes the best.... seriously THE best Fried Mushrooms I have had ever. The mushrooms are huge and very well fried, when you take a bite the mushrooms are very juicy and tasty. I usually use the ranch sauce to cool down the mushrooms since they come out so piping hot. The complimentary rolls are also very delicious when buttered up. I know all buttered rolls are gonna taste awesome, but the rolls they bring your are literally fresh from the oven. For my meal, I really enjoyed the Shiner Fish n' Chips. The fish was very well fried and delicious. I am usually very picky about freshwater fish, especially since I am a huge sushi guy. My biggest gripe about freshwater fish is being able to sort of "taste" the freshwater.... yeah its pretty nasty, however the shiner fish n chips eliminates that taste I hate. WOW! Cotton Patch shocked me! They serve really good food at a reasonable price. It's hard to put a label on Cotton Patch. I guess it's just good all-American food. The wife and I rounded up the kids and went here the other night. Everybody enjoyed their food and we all walked out completely stuffed. I had the Cajun Catfish and was pretty impressed. While it wasn't as spectacular as the Alligator Cafe, it was really tasty. The service was excellent. Our waitress was on it the entire meal. I watched the other waiters and waitresses and they all seemed friendly and "on it" as well. In fact, our waitress waited on an elderly gentleman who was seated beside us. He obviously comes in there a lot because she knew him, but I was impressed by the way she interacted with him. The manager sat with the gentleman almost the entire time he was there and talked with him. I saw Andrea's review and realized that I have never given my props to Cotton Patch. I love this place..........it reminds me of my favorite old T-shirt. Do you know what I'm saying? How you have that really comfortable piece of clothing, which you wear around the house because it's soft and roomy, but would never wear it on a date? Cotton Patch is THE solid, dependable place to pick up a hearty and tasty meal. It is rarely my first choice but it always satisfies, particularly when you aqre having that neverending discussion on "I dunno. Where do you want to eat?" Whether you want a burger, sandwich, salad, or some homecooked staples like meatloaf, you can get it here. You get fresh, hot bread and ample sides. I have been a customer here for over 10 years and I will not be coming back. Every time I go in, I order iced tea and just out of persistence, I ask for a teaspoon just to be told they don't have them. What do they expect us to stir our tea with? Have you tried stirring your iced tea with a straw with ice in it? Not easy. I have asked the manager about this at least 20 times and told each time he would check on it. After 10 years I have decided if they don't care enough about me to provide the implements needed to eat, then I will just mark them off of my list. The name of this place really threw me off because I thought it was either some lame sandwich shop, or a soup n' salad type place. Turns out Cotton Patch is a real sit-down, full on restaurant with lots of good menu options. Place actually has a really nice build-out too on the inside. I ordered the fish n' chips for lunch here and they were excellent. I probably could have just eaten a dozen of the hot rolls they bring out b/c they were soooo good too. A great option if you are looking for a cheap meal that wont let you down. Also - wait staff here was on it like a hawk. I've just recently been introduced to Cotton Patch cafe, as of maybe a few months ago. Originally, from the outside I just thought it was a little coffee house with nothing on the menu but pastries and drinks, but I was SO VERY WRONG. Cotton Patch is a full-fledged restaurant, with a simple, yet comfortable setting. The food comes to you in heaping portions, which was very surprising, and tastes great! The staff is also made of very attentive hosts and waiters/waitresses that'll make sure your experience is a pleasant one. They deliver drink refills when they see you're getting low, get you fresh new bread if the basket on your table has been sitting there too long, and usually walk by to ask if the meal is good or if we need anything. If you're looking for an inexpensive, home-style restaurant with excellent service, look no further than Cotton Patch Cafe. read more

I went to the Cotton Patch for lunch the other day with a friend only because Chili's was closed for some reason. We had our minds set on trying to eat (somewhat) healthy and were looking for an appetizing salad. The larger size salads just didn't seem to interest me (I'm a vegetarian and HATE to pay $10 for a salad that I have them leave the chicken off of...restaurants should really deduct some for this...), so I ended up with a small house salad and a side of steamed veggies. I asked our very sarcastic but thought he was being oh so charming server if he could leave off the cucumbers (I'm allergic) and croutons - which he wrote down and it all turned out just fine. My friend on the other hand, made no modifications to her salad and it came out identical to mine - oh yeah - he wrote hers down as well. She also ordered a bowl of tortilla soup, of which she asked if it was a cream-based or broth-based soup. The smart allec's response: "neither". Um...ok...it's gotta be one or the other buddy! Then she asked again and all he managed to come up with is "it's vegetably. It's like nothing I've ever had before but it's good." Ok getting a little closer, but you've still not answered the question! So - she asked again - this time saying "It has to be one or the other - cream or broth." He finally said it was a broth. Great. She ordered it without cheese and tortilla strips. This too came out incorrectly despite him writing it down. To the server's defense, he didn't run his own food out because he looked to be slammed with plenty of other tables. However, when the other server brought out the soup, my friend stated she'd ordered it without the toppings and could she please send it back and get a new one. She got a new one alright. The server merely took it back to the kitchen; scraped off the cheese and tortilla strips; then piled more tort strips on! Seriously? If she didn't want to help out the other server, then she should've just told him to do it. My friend was fine to scoop off the tort strips (although highly annoyed at this point), but was pretty livid when she stirred her soup and the spoon came out with cheese stringing from the soup! While I am quite sarcastic myself, and enjoy that type of humor, it's not helpful to a customer when he/she is trying to order food from a menu that doesn't completely spell out the ingredients. Went in for a dinner with family who flew in from Alaska. They had never been to Texas before so I was eager to take them to cotton patch (my 2nd fav restaurant in Frisco). We arrived and were greeted by our wonderful server Danni. She took great care of us, made us delicious tea, and helped recommend the chicken fried stake to my Alaskan guests. They were blown away with the meal, especially the white gravy. I'm so glad to have given my Alaskan family such a great and memorable meal while they were in Texas. Cotton Patch is country cookin' (yes "cookin") in a family friendly package. I've read recent reviews that haven't been positive. It's a shame because having eaten there at least a dozen times, it's always been decent. First, THE ROLLS. Could easily eat myself sick on them. Really - that yummy and probably why I feel compelled to give them 4 stars. If you can tear yourself away from the carb fest, chicken fried steak is good to quite good as is the chicken and dumplings. Those three make it a place I keep going back to. Tried several of their sandwiches (club is great) and often get their "wabbit platter" (veggies). Liked it all. Not such a great place on a diet, but I know that when I go and still choose to anyway. I noticed some seats opened up once she sat some tables so we moved back to the front of the restaurant. I started to notice she was seating 2 top tables ahead of us so I asked her if she removed our name. She had completely removed us from the list. I also have to mention that while we were seated by the hostess stand a server returned menus and some fell on the floor. Pretty standard American comfort food. It wasn't terrible but it was not the best. I had Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Mac & Cheese. None of them blew me away with flavor, had to add salt and pepper to everything. Girlfriend had the meat loaf, Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes, pretty much the same deal here although the Green Beans were pretty good. My family and I went to a Cotton Patch when I was a child and it was solid but they have seemed to fall off a bit. 2 good things you can expect, good bread and good service, everything else is middle of the road. read more

This place was a disaster tonight. We should have known better and gone running in the opposite direction when we noticed a section closed on a Saturday night. We had our two grandsons with us who love it there though so we decided to stay. After a short wait we were seated. Then we waited and waited and waited. We sat for over 45 minutes without seeing our waiter. My husband finally asked the hostess if our table had a waiter. He was informed they had several employees call in and they were short staffed. At this point we debated leaving, but realized on a Saturday night we were now facing a long wait anywhere. After close to 15 minutes a waiter came and took our drink orders and I begged for rolls for the kids (aged 3 and1) because they were starving and getting antsy. Many minutes passed and drinks were brought (ordered milk for kids and received water) and rolls with no butter. We had no silverware or napkins. I went to the hostess stand and got silverware rather than face a 15 min wait. We had been here close to an hour and a half and no food. The restaurant was at less than half capacity. We noticed two women at one table leave because no one waited on them. We overheard a waiter tell another table when they requested ketchup that the restaurant was out and the manager had left to go to the McKinney location to get some. Dude, at this point you go to the nearest Target or Walmart. At this point, my husband who had ordered fries had had his fill. He grabbed the kids and said we were out of there. I informed the hostess we were leaving. She got our waiter who apologized, said our food had been sitting up there, and he would bag it up to go, no charge. I appreciate the gesture, but I would have preferred to have had a hot decent meal and paid for it. By the time we got home we had two starving kids, cold food, and one incorrect order.
