Upon entering this restaurant I was taken back by the shabbiness of it. It had an A rating! Hmmmm? This is a A?? Anyhow, we were stuck, my husband refuses to eat at your typical retail when we travel. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was really good and plenty. If you eat with your eyes closed you might actually enjoy it. The price was right. I would like to give the owner "A" punch in the face for running such a dirty eating establishment. My family and I used to be regulars.(used to be) After one of the BEST waitresses left(Kathy) This place as far as help is only good when Claudia is there. Every one else including the owner are rude, Which by the way if you listen at any given time even her staff complain about how rude outrageous and I even heard one of them say "she's crazy the only reason I'm still here is for tips"The food is crappy now. Came in again for the second time, just because my husband wanted to try it but, I had already warned him about this place ! Food is awesome and fast but SERVICE sucks! My daughters pizza was in the window for half of our meal. Was brought out when we where almost done eating . This waitress literally came to our table for order and never came back to us again! Great service, they had my meal ready in less than 5 min, but the food was a little bland, the country potatoes needed some seasoning and I prefer them a little more cooked to have those crispy edges, the chicken fried steak was decent, the thin edges tasted a bit like fry oil, but the center was good, once again a bit bland, but the home made salsa added good flavor, the biscuits and gravy were decent, the biscuits excellent, but the gravy tasted canned, still, not bad for the price and enough to fill me up. read more

This is probably my favorite place to go to for breakfast. I've been there for about 10 years but over the years the customer services just SUCKS. I've let it slide for so many times but today I was there for 2 hours. I got there at 10:30 and left at 12:30. Everybody that got there after me got their food, paid, and left and we were just getting our food. We finally decided to speak to the manager(mexican lady) and she just argued and said "our steak" is what took long that's why. I asked for someone higher or even a number that I can call and she just said the owner never comes. I'm done giving this place second, third chance. A regular old breakfast joint. I guess when a restaurant leaves food bland tasting it's so you can season it up yourself, right?? The sandwiches and hamburgers were open faced and messy, made for eating with a fork. Our waitress was a bit snarky but might've been overwhelmed by our party of 11. They need to work on their customer service!!! We walk in and it's as if we were invisible. The sign said "please wait to be seated" so we WAITED and WAITED and nobody bothered to say a simple "hello we will be with you shortly" then they finally say sit where we want after my husband asked if we can sit in the empty booth. Seen this place on Yelp and decided to go try it out, as soon as we walk in the hostess or cashier does not acknowledge our presence and I ask if we wait to be seated she said, "no just find a spot" so we look and find a table no one ever made it to our table after 15min we just walked out! I was in Bakersfield on business I found this place in the morning so I decided to stop in for breakfast I ordered the chicken fried steak and biscuits with gravy the waitress was pleasant once my food arrived I tasted the chicken fried steak it was horrible I almost threw up it tasted sour and freezer burned I called the waitress back and told her about the food she asked if I'd like another one made I decided to give it another try the new one came and the waitress said she would wait for me to try the new steak just Incase I didn't like it. I tried it and it was just as bad as the first I told her I didn't want anything to eat from there I was done she took my plate away. She then told me she was sorry for the bad food but that the owner/manager told her to charge me for half my meal because she used 2 steaks lol I told her to call the manager over she came back and said the manager did not want to speak with me lol the waitress was very embarrassed I felt bad for her. Everytime I come here we always have to wait which I understand it's a busy place but today I went and there wasn't anyone ahead of us so I hurried and wrote my name down we were 4 with a infant so I wrote "4 with a highchair" then the crowd started pouring in. Well we waited about 15 mins when i finally saw a family leave and since I knew I was next I was okay. Well they skipped us and sat a family that came after us first so we went to see why. The lady said she thought we had left. She never called my name and I was sitting on the bench inside so I was close by. She sat us down immediately after that and then the waitress took forever to give us our drinks and food. By the time I got the food it was cold and it took just as long for them to check on us and give us our tab at the end. Food is good but service needs work. If they know they get that busy especially on the weekends hire more help. Having to wait 10 plus minutes for a refill then that or more on the check and then to pay because the girls see you standing there wanting to pay but they ignore you and carry on with that they're doing. Currently sitting here watching the workers... my husband and my son love the food here. I don't think there's anything special about it, and to be honest, unless you're a man and these girls know you, they won't even acknowledge you. Today I came with my son because he really wanted to eat here, yet we walked in and it took about 20 minutes before someone even looked at us and said something. Another lady got really angry with them, told them something, then took off. I see groups of men coming in and they get attention right away. The servers are also very attentive and friendly with them but not with families. I really hope the manager or the owner sees this and fixes this issue. I usually go to the other one on airport drive. I happen to be on this side of town so I went knowing the other on was excellent. This one was terrible. The service was bad I had to wait to get a refill on tea until the end of my meal. The food did not have spices. On top of that the served tiny portions and the oil tasted old. Really like this place we kinda of just stumbled on it by chance and we've loved it ever since. They have a great breakfast menu and a friendly staff. They recently remodeled the place and it looks great. Loved this place. Great food. AMAZING portions. Took my wife and daughter here I had never been. My wife has been in the past but its been a while. We had no complaints. We went in for breakfast. My boyfriend really enjoyed his lumber jack, while I had a bacon avacado omelette. My omelette was okay, it happened to be a little overcooked for my taste, the hasbrown were okay. But it was fine for the price. Not sure if we'll be back, but we enjoyed our visit. read more

Went solo for breakfast. Only person waiting. 15 minutes being ignored. Sat myself. Another 15 minutes before waitress shows up with menu. Gave order, chili verde skillet with toast and country potatoes. While eating I found that order was wrong, brought to waitresses attention, she states " yeah they probably messed it up " and walks away. After trying to get her attention for 30 minutes and being ignored, asked for owner or manager. Another 30 minutes goes by with nothing. Classic diner feel. If you are on the 99 driving past Bakersfield, stop in for a good meal. Wife had a veggie burrito with mushroom broccoli onion eggs. They brought 2 6 inchers and they were good. This place sucks. Their prices are cheap, but the quality of their food is awful. The chicken they gave me was rubbery. The tri tip they served was cold and tasted old. The side salad I got for my son had brown lettuce and was drenched in ranch so they can try and cover it. They give you a lot of food, but what's the point if the food taste like crap. The chile verde is to die for! and the biscuits and gravy is wonderful 9 times out of 10. Our waitresses have almost always been friendly and engaging while serving us. Their lunch and dinner are not as appetizing as their breakfast though. So if you go, it would be best to go in the mornings. We traveled from South Texas to Bakersfield for business. We were looking for a Cafe near where we traveling and stopped in Country Kitchen for breakfast. We have to say the waitresses are fabulous. We were there when a cameraman from the Bakersfield paper was there. All of the customers knew the waitresses and the atmospere was great. Fun time and great food.
