Had the most delicious breakfast here! Krystal our server was just so patient and kind! We have never been and I'm happy we did because the food was great! I had the veggie omelet and country potatoes. The potatoes were fried I believe and they perfect. I can't remember going to Zingo's Café ever since I was a little girl traveling to Las Vegas. It was my mom's and grandmother's favorite place to stop. The food has always been great and the service is always been top-notch. It's down home cooking with a small town feel. It's always very clean and everyone is so nice. We used to go here all the time , but hadn't been back since the new owners took over. We finally tried it for breakfast this morning--and it was delicious! The gravy is homemade, and the chocolate gravy might even be better than mine. The ham steak was flavorful, the sausage patties were great, and the coffee hit the spot. We had heard that Zingos was under new ownership and wanted to give it a try. It's right on Buck Owens Blvd and easy to find. We were welcomed and got our choice of seating. We chose a booth. This is a friendly neighborhood diner. We wanted breakfast. My wife picked the French Toast and I, my usual omelet. The portions for both dishes was more than generous. The French toast was very good. Thick pieces of bread, cooked very nicely. The omelet was just what you'd expect. The chef cooked it through, the toppings were plentiful, but not overwhelming. The restaurant was a lot more cleaner than I remembered it a few years back. The staff attentive and friendly. Good coffee. And the prices were reasonable. Came here for breakfast around 10 am & the interior is large and apparently recently renovated! There are tons of seats, booths + bar seats to choose from, so seating doesn't seem to be a huge issue. The menu is divided by your run of the mill all day breakfast items + lunch items don't start until 11 am. For the cost of each dish, the price is extremely reasonable for the amount of food you get! I love that as a side, you can choose to get toast or biscuits and gravy (you can get it with or without sausage) for no extra cost! My wife is from Germany and has been living in the United States for 3 years. Life and food is a little different here in the States. Here in the States, one of her go-to breakfast orders is the breakfast burrito which is not common in Europe. Well, we were passing thru Bakersfield and stopped at Zingos. We have always loved Zingo's. Who Zingo is I have no idea, but I do know the first owner passed and the place was bought and remolded. It is not a fancy remodel and we would not want that. It is just super friendly and welcoming. Parking is super easy in their lot. The place is spotless as are the bathrooms. There is a bar in the back through another door which has all manner of old time fun. Country music, Karaoke nights and just a great time. Zingo's always has a few special events now and again like classic cars that are amazing to look at and the owners are there having a meal with everyone else. This place is just so down to earth, not a mean person in site. The customers are mostly local, some are long haul truck drivers and then there are the people who know you have to eat at Zingo's or you have not really been to Bakersfield. Each table is so cool, it has adverts made right into the table for all sorts of local places. It is super fun to read. They have a large menu and everything is really good, be it breakfast or dinner. The service is great. They are fast and friendly and if you need any information about Bakersfield these are the women to ask. They know the menu well and will tell you what is great. We had burgers, just so tasty and cooked perfectly, salad with a wonderful dressing and coffee that never ends. We also ordered a super tasty lemonade. We had biscuits and gravy and the county sausage gravy was some of the best I have ever had. The biscuits are made there and so fluffy. We also ordered eggs and pancakes. The eggs were large and wonderful. The pancakes were cooked on too hot a grill and made them a tad tough, so turn your grill down, but they were still good. There is not one thing we don't love about this place. They are kid and tourist friendly and you will never be rushed and you will be made to feel at home. I doubt they take reservations. Here we are again... we walked out hungry for the rest of the menu. This place NEVER disappoints. We tried something new today, and man, oh man!!!! It was all finger-lickin' good!!! Bellies full to the brim, but we wish we had more chambers in our stomachs to try something else... we had to order the fish N chips (on top of our orders), and it did not disappoint. The owner said we should try the fried okra too, but we had no room for it. The portion size is so big... we had to take our leftover food home. They cater to large families too.. there was a couple long tables they put together to accommodate 15 plus members. This place NEVER disappoints. The staff is super friendly and you can tell they love their customers. The food brings us back... but the staff adds that whipped cream and cherry on top! Wanted to see if they turned it around from the original" takeover" and was genuinely sadden it still freaking sucked. Zingos has been a must stop when I'm in the area for as long as I can remember. These days I'm hardly ever nearby, but I knew I needed to experience their biscuits and gravy action once more. Amazeballs does not even begin to do this place justice. The food was pretty good, very few complaints there. The service... was absolutely fantastic! Our server had a great attitude, friendly, and quick to joke. He seemed absolutely 100% proud to be where he was, and even if the food was 2 (it was 4.5 just to be clear) I'd still come back. Dalton! My man! Keep it up brother, i can't wait to bring family and friends to see this place. For those wondering about price? Less than 60$ for 3 meals, and nobody left hungry. I hate to dump on an old favorite but this diner has really gone downhill. From my understanding, the original Zingos was sold and that's where they went wrong. The location got a makeover; fresh paint, seats, floors. Much of the original staff is no longer there and the menu has been tweaked. These things are minimal considering the actual quality of the food has drastically been affected. The chicken fried steak is not like the old one, it is now a giant piece of cardboard. The gravy is bland, and to be honest the service is not great. Not very attentive like the old staff and our table never got offered a refill. It's sad I won't be coming back. read more

Surprisingly, I have never been here. I figured I would try it out since they had new owners and all the reviews on yelp. It's off the highway and more of a truck stop cafe. The inside matches the outside. As we walked in we weren't greeted, but someone yelled to sit wherever we wanted. We chose a booth. Our waitress came over with menus and took our drink orders. They were packed but a little busy. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. My husband had the steak with egg whites, cottage cheese with tomato slices, and fruit. The steak had a decent flavor, surprisingly for a cafe. The fruit was old. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The bacon was good, but their biscuits were doughy and the gravy had no flavor, even after I put salt and a lot of pepper on it. I also want to mention that the owner started on our side greeting customers at their tables, but past us up, then he went over to the other side talking to each table. Thought that was strange. I haven't been here in many years so I can't compare old to new. We walked in, and we were told to find a spot to sit. We took a look around and noticed that there were a few booths still dirty from the previous customers. We found a clean booth and sat for a few minutes waiting for our server. We chatted for a bit and found ourselves still waiting for our server. After a few more minutes, I guess they remembered they told us to seat ourselves because someone finally came over to start our drink order. Our server was friendly and had a great personality. After a few minutes we finally got to place our order. The waite wasn't too long but then it was considering the amount of customers that were in the restaurant. We received our food and we were surprised to see how large the serving sizes were. My goddaughter ordered the chicken sandwich. She said it was good but the dipping it in the syrup made it too sweet and the waffle was too big and it was hard to bite but she liked it. My husband got the all meat omelet. He said he definitely enjoyed it or he was just hungry. I got the chicken fried steak only because I was curious how theirs tasted. It was good but not delicious. There was some sort of after taste on my fried steak that held me back from digging in. That I found a little disappointing because I had been sick all week and this morning I was feeling kinda better so when my husband said if I was up for going to grab a bite to eat, I was like hellz yeah. I couldn't put my finger on what that after taste was though. I can say that their country potatoes were delicious, and my eggs were cooked perfectly well as the biscuits and gravy tasted morning fresh. Stopped by for lunch on a Friday morning to check out the "new" Zingo's Cafe. A lot has stayed the same, but the booths in the center of the dining room were replaced with half a dozen small tables with chairs. The service was awfully slow today, and the cafe was pretty empty compared to how it used to be. I ordered an Ortega cheeseburger and fries ($13.99), and it was unremarkable. My burger fell apart within a couple of bites. Without the ortgea chile, it would have been bland and flavorless. The side of ranch was watery, more like seasoned milk. I stopped in the remodeled restroom to wash my hands and noted it no longer features the famous condom machine, but it still does retain the truckstop bathroom aroma. It's not what it used to be twenty years ago. It lacks the sleezy soul of the original greasy spoon I loved in my youth, but it's still Zingo's, which is better than nothing. read more

Man, I feel let down. I was really excited for a re-vamp of Zingos. I've been going here for well over 15 years of my life and it needed a face lift but the food was just not what I expected. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak itself was good, well seasoned, well fried. The gravy however was an immediate no. It felt like one of those store bought gravy packets you mix with water. It was watery with no flavor. I could immediately tell when they set it down I was not going to be a fan. I like a thick homemade country gravy that is made with love. This was not that. Toast, got sourdough - also no flavor. I'm a bread connoisseur and a good sourdough has THAT taste, IYKYK. Eggs were eggs. Not much to say there. Hash-browns, 5 bites worth, over cooked IMO, usually top layer is crispy and softer below the entire portion was crispy. I'm giving 2 stars because it was about 45 minutes before we got our food, it took 20 minutes to get drinks after we were seated. The chairs/tables are small and uncomfortable as well. They had 2 waitresses for the busy Sunday morning & a girl seating people. The establishment itself is clean, but that should be standard. The staff were nice. Never got refills of our drinks. I left a $6 tip which is around 18% on an almost $40 bill. If you like a home cooked country fried chicken fried steak I would check out Knotty Pine Cafe or something alike. This one was a one and done for us. read more
