Homemade Meatloaf with watery mashed potatoes
Brigette G.

Came here for breakfast on Memorial Day weekend, got there early and good thing because there was a long wait after we sat down. It's a cute small cafe and very family friendly. Service was a little slow and for being so packed there wasn't many servers. Coffee tasted very watery and our Food did take a while which is the reason I knocked off a star. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and it was delicious! It came with a huge pancake and that was also delicious and so good! My hubby ordered the meatloaf which he said was ok but the mash potatoes were inedible. They tasted and looked like they were powdered from a box. Our friends had the chicken steak and regular breakfast and they really enjoyed their meal too. Good place for breakfast.

Came here for breakfast one morning while visiting Big Bear Lake and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little distance from the main strip and it has a decent size parking lot. Kate was our waitress and she was a joy to deal with. Very helpful and in addition to taking our order, she gave us some visitor recommendations for our weekend. I was so impressed with the food and menu. Very unique items on the menu and reasonably priced for the large portion size that they give you. I had the Cordon Bleu crepes and my friend had the Santa Fe skillet. Both were delicious. We'll definitely come back here on our next visit.

Speciality coffee menu.

Breakfast at Country Kitchen was in full swing when we arrived -- the kind of morning bustle where coffee cups clink, servers move at a near-balletic pace, and the scent of bacon does most of the marketing. Sad to see its doors have closed permanently. THE FOOD. - Bacon Avocado Ranch Omelette. A generous fold of eggs packed with applewood-smoked bacon and Swiss, brightened by fresh slices of avocado and capped with a drizzle of house-made ranch. Indulgent, yes -- but with just enough freshness to keep it honest. - Farm Skillet. A hearty plate designed to silence even the loudest of appetites: two eggs any style perched over a bed of seasoned hash browns, mingling with chopped sausage, onion, and green peppers. Rustic, filling, and satisfying. THE DRINK. - Coffee. Bold and much needed after a night of drinking. THE PARKING. The restaurant offered a generous surface lot that stretched out behind the building. Free, easy, and refreshingly unremarkable.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! By far, the absolute BEST food at Big Bear Lake! Ask for Ernesto when you go. He went out of his way to make everything wonderful for us! Also worth mentioning, it's the cleanest restaurant around. (Seriously, everywhere else was just sticky and gross. Not here! This restaurant actually understands the assignment). The hash browns were amazing! Fresh cooked. The eggs were perfect. True "farm fresh". The chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked. The bacon omelette was out of this world delicious! The pancakes nice and fluffy. Oh, and super yummy biscuits and gravy! Very reasonably priced. Great atmosphere. And again, the BEST service in town! Can't wait to come back! "Thank you, Ernesto for your warm hospitality!"

Chill with good company and a good meal

The server Rosie was great! The place was cozy and comfortable. She was very helpful on with questions and recommendations. I checked yelp and didn't see steak and eggs and she was correct, it was delicious. I should have taken the pic before I started eating lol

Chicken Country Fried Steak & Eggs*

Tater Tots! Done! Most restaurants do not offer tater tots. Country Kitchen offers both tater tots and hash browns. We need to return to try other menu items. They look so good. Fluffy pancakes. Extremely fresh fruit, strawberries especially. Something about the chefs in Big Bear is amazing. Eggs over hard is actually really difficult to accomplish without making them stiff and crispy. This is the second time I have gone out for breakfast in Big Bear and had perfect eggs over hard. And you know that eggs over easy that creates an egg white shell after sucking out the egg yolk is awesome. While everything else was good, crispy chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken, I tend to focus on eggs. To us, preparing eggs perfectly is the mark for a great place to eat. It was nice and cozy. The decor was so cute. We passed Country Kitchen the day before and saw quite a few people waiting. We know why. And again, our sever was non-stop. I love that about the people in Big Bear. Next time, we do lunch/linner.

Pretty typical diner experience. We enjoyed it. It wasn't crowded on a Sunday morning.

We were up in Big Bear for the week. Found this place off other Yelpers! So happy we tried it…read more Small unique diner with delicious food. We actually went twice. Although the wait can be a bit they are super fast. I had the waffle combo the second time we went. delicious. Had a bite the first time and just had to come back for it again. Also had the sausage patty. OMG this was next level. Biscuits and gravy were also delicious. My daughter liked the waffle as well. My son and his wife liked the enormous pancake! Diner is really small and decorated with stickers and money, very cute. We will define come back here when we are back in town. Highly recommended!!!

Here's why: we arrived at 9:50 for breakfast, 6 adults and my 2 year old. We put our name in, and were told it would be 45 minutes. 50 minutes in the heat outside goes by. (Two of the adults are in their 80's mind you.) We're really hungry lol. Two 4 seater tables finally open up in this tiny place. A small family of 3 shows up and knows the hostess (pixie haircut and piercings, don't know her name but can't miss her.) she waves them in and gets them one of the 4 seaters, no wait for friends I guess! 2 minutes later a third 4 seater opens up in the same row but she sat her friends at the one right in the middle. So they call our name and then tell us we have to separate our family to get seated and take the two 4 seaters on opposite ends of the table they gave away. They don't give a (insert your favorite curse word here). I guess it's okay though because they warn you on their menu that the staff might be moody lol! A great scapegoat for terrible service. Never again. Here's a tip to anyone reading: go literally 1 minute west down the road and eat at the first restaurant you see. They were phenomenal!

Stopped in here to grab a drink and a snack b4 finishing our walk around town…read more Place is adorable and dog friendly for those that have- bc we met the cutest dog, Milo who was hanging out next to us. I ordered a Nutella espresso martini mocktail and my man ordered an allagash beer (not on the menu, but on tap) - NEW beer for them, which was a great bonus! There were several people working as wait staff and one bartender, who was the manager that day onsite. Seemed like he was making tons of drinks for several tables - because, sitting at the bar right in front of him- took maybe 5+ minutes to even acknowledge that we were sitting in front of him in the middle of the bar- then it took 15 + minutes to get the two drinks and an order of fries. That was the only downpoint- but everything else was fine. Fries were great with a nice homemade ranch dressing. My mocktail martini was good - quite a lot of foam on top- but pretty and tasted kinda like a fancy chocolate milk. I never usually like wasting money on a mocktail $8 for it- but was yummie. Might come back next time and try some of the food. Great ambience - clean and nice location and size - especially compared to some other places in the village.

We were told it would be a 20 minutes wait so I asked the hostess if we can sit at the bar and order a drink while we waited to be called. She told us if we did that, we would have to sit at the bar and can't be moved to the dining table. WTH?!? She said there's a wait for the bar seats but NOONE sat there. Makes no sense! We were greeted by a friendly bartender who took our drinks and food order and made great drinks for us. The rest of the staff looked so lost and ran around like they were busy but it wasn't even busy! On to the food, we ordered the burrata, buffalo chicken salad and blt. The burrata was ok. The buffalo salad had no dressing and the chicken was just tenders in buffalo sauce. It just didn't wow me. The BLT was the saddest looking BLT ever! The limp bacon and a small piece of Romain lettuce and sad tomatoes slopped together on focaccia bread. No mayo or any spread on the bread. It was dry and just sad! I was disappointed that the food wasn't spectacular like it was the first time we went. And lastly, please Print new menus. The crumpled menus looks terrible!

However I ordered their back country burrito and it was average at best. Heavy on the egg and pico. There was hardly any bacon in it. And they didn't have hot sauce. I also got their August cold brew and it was pretty watered down. The flavors tasted a bit off. In addition the burrito was nearly $17 and the coffee was about $7. I definitely overpaid. Maybe I'll return to try other options, but not really the place for a breakfast burrito if you're looking for one.
