One more grub stop to cap off a fun-filled family weekend getaway at this beautiful city of Big Bear. Party of 15, we expected a wait for a a few reasons: It's Sunday, there were way too many of us (especially for a place that can only seat 66 maximum) and based on the reviews, this place is pretty popular. So we all anticipated at least an hour before getting seated. Talk about perfect timing: to our surprise, we all got seated immediately. Yay! Our servers were quiet busy as it was before we even got there, so it took a minute to get menus. But they were really quick at giving the kids their coloring sheets and crayons - awesome, they need the distraction while us big kids go through the menu. They had plenty of choices, but I immediately knew what I wanted soon as my eyes laid eyes on it: chicken fried steak and eggs (gravy on the side) with biscuits and gravy. While waiting, I got to take a quick look around. It's a simple diner. Nothing extravagant, clean, and it felt really comfy and very homely. It didn't take long before I got my drink - salted caramel mocha, I believe it was. It was a good starter to warm up the tummy! And I like that it wasn't too sweet, given I'm not really a sweets kind of person. (Not sure why, but for some reason, it looked good. And I'm glad I got to try it.) Everything is made to order, so it took some time for our grub to get to our tables. (We prolly made it worse given the number of peeps in our party!) But it was well worth it. The steak was breaded thin and crispy. The steak was soft with a good chew. They were both seasoned well. Eggs were a perfect over easy. Hash browns also with a nice well-done finish on the outside and soft in the inside. Oh, and the biscuits and gravy?! Man, that was hearty! There was nothing I didn't like about my plate. FOOD: 5. Liked it so much, it was clean by the time I was done. SERVICE: 5. Our servers were champs at what they do. As crowded and full as the place was, they were good to go! VALUE: 4. More than fair. PARKING: Street and private lot at the back. OVERALL: 4.75. We all came through at the perfect time, because not even 10 minutes after we were seated, the waitlist got longer... and longer... and still a wait even after we were done. Whew, we got lucky. We all left happy. I'm not in this area often, but should there be a next time, they're definitely on my list for brunch. read more

Food was good with nice presentation, took a bit of time but was good, my complaint is only about the service, was on the slow side. We were in the Big Bear Lake area for some fun in the snow. On the last day, we were looking for a good breakfast place but most of the restaurants were in the downtown Big Bear lake area. Given that it is Ski/Snowboard season, there was heavy traffic leading to the downtown area and we did not want to sit through traffic for breakfast. Luckily, we saw Country Kitchen. Located on the main road entering town, they're located before the downtown area where all the traffic is. So we were able to get to this place on the way out of town avoiding all traffic. It's a nice and cozy place with a small town vibe. Staff was very friendly, coffee was good, and the wait wasn't too long. They do seem popular so there maybe some wait time depending on when you go. As for the menu, there is wide variety of items so I'm sure most can find something to they're in the mood for. We ended up getting fried chicken and waffles, and the pork chops. The fried chicken was delicious. Perfectly fried and accompanied well with the provided maple syrup. The portion was also very generous and looked to be almost half of a small chicken. There was a leg, thigh, and breast so was just short the wing. The pork chop also was very tasty and their was a generous portion which consisted of 2 chops. All-in-all, both breakfasts had plenty to share. To sum it up, really happy to have found this place. We will definitely be coming back here on our next visit to try some of the other items on the menu. Give them a try! read more

Stopped this morning for a hearty breakfast before a Jeep ride into various trails. We had not been there in a while.... the food was absolutely delicious! and a special shout out to our waiter Ernesto, he was awesome! He made our morning breakfast dine in experience very pleasant. He was hospitable and funny. The second waiter/ manager was also very pleasant and they checked in on us a couple of times. Dare I say it, the best breakfast in Big Bear. My best friend and I went on our third day there and having tried other locations we had the best experience here. The breakfast scrambles were wonderful, the tots were crispy but not greasy. We loved the coffee and all the flavors they had.
