My husband and kids are pretty picky when it comes to their country fried steak, and their fried chicken, but they loved it. Both batters were seasoned well, not too salty nor bland, and came out crispy. Waffles and pancakes were fluffy, however, the waffle was a bit soggy in the center, from where the pipping hot chicken that was placed on top. It was a bit busy, but the overall wait time wasn't too bad. It is one of our new favorite places. We will make a point to stop by for at least one meal whenever we are up in Big Bear. read more

Took 2 hours in total. Took 25min to just get drinks. The food came and they had forgotten a few things. Took awhile to get that. Had to ask for items/check multiple times. They apologized like 50x they knew they were doing bad. Tables walked out without paying because no one was attending to them. Others left because they weren't getting service. Cash only and they make u pay to pull money out. Most places that force u to pay cash the atm is free. Looks like the good reviews were from previous management. They have a long way to go. On a recent visit to Big Bear, we decided to give Country Kitchen a try based on very good reviews and proximity to our hotel. We arrived around 10 am on a Monday and it was quite empty, but I kind of expected this on a weekday in the off-season. I ordered from the lite portion of the menu, but it definitely was still a great size portion for the price including a two egg omelette, potatoes, and toast. The food was very tasty and our server was very accommodating. By the time we left, all the tables were virtually full and the place was buzzing. Horrible experience. The restaurant was freezing. The food was cold and they gave us a hand written bill that charged us almost twice the price. They were running on a skeleton crew, two people taking orders and bringing out food,however, the food and service were great. We try to get out the city and visit the lake once a year and hadn't been here so we were weary at first. It's worth the drive and their chilaquiles are legit. We lived in East LA for a bit and grew up Mexican, so we're snobby about our chilaquiles. I was impressed given where this spot is. Stopped in for lunch on a snowy day. Staff was very friendly. We had a bit of a wait but there was seating inside for us to wait. Two unisex bathrooms and free parking lot. They have a mix of tables and booths inside to sit at. I ordered a seasonal mixed berry salad, which was very tasty and fresh with a raspberry vinaigrette. I also got a cup of potato soup, but this was a miss - the soup was extremely thick and unappetizing. Don't recommend it! Their menu is large with a lot of breakfast lunch and dinner options. They also had a delicious looking selection of coffee drinks and desserts. Overall I enjoyed the meal - minus the potato soup. Points for convenience, minimal wait time, and kind service! read more

I really wanted to like this place but did not make the cut to what I was use to at Grind n Grill. The only reason we chose to go, it was only 12 mins. from our cabin. Prices were the usual high of $15-19 depending what you order. The coffee was so so, they offered other flavored coffee, but served only with milk but I can't drink milk. Best part was the wait was not that long, played country music which was quite nice since it's called Country Kitchen. Food is obviously my next complaint, the waffle with chicken was what I really wanted To try, however the waffle was dry and it was toasted. I wish it was slightly soft and crispy just a little bit. It was quite disappointing, now the chicken was OK, after all it is fried chicken but nothing special to it. At least they gave a lot of pieces, the chicken wings the leg and thigh. It was delicious nonetheless. Now my boyfriend's meal they unfortunately added ham and he did not want ham. The omelette was not as good as I thought. The cleanliness of bathrooms and the restaurant seemed like it was renovated which helped make it a very decent place to try. It is not bad for large group but maybe just one large group. The views outside in the winter was very relaxing to see trees and a bit of snow. read more

I am only giving a four star as our poor waiter was the only staff person and the place was packed. He was running his you know what off, but couldn't keep up with the demand. Have more servers if you want to keep customers coming back. Once I finally got my coffee I couldn't even get a refill. My husband needed decaf but canceled after 30 minutes of no coffee showing up for him. I ordered wheat toast and got white, didn't waste my time trying to get the right toast. I felt so sorry for our server. Even had some customers walk out as they couldn't get service. read more

My family has been dining here for years and it's been our go-to restaurant for breakfast. However, our most recent visit on 4/11/25, was a big disappointment. Our server was very good but the kitchen staff couldn't get our orders correct and some of our food was undercooked/raw to the point of being inedible. After some prodding, I found out that the ownership changed and so has the quality of the food. Another downside is that they are now a "cash only" establishment. Unfortunately, we won't be back to our most favorite Big Bear Lake breakfast diner ever again. read more

It feels like this place must be under new ownership, maybe purchased by someone who is new to the restaurant business. Front of house is disorganized. We arrived at 10:50 AM and it was a 30 min wait. We wrote our name down on the board, and waited. At some point the hostess came by and checked if we were a party of two and we pointed out our name on the clipboard.I see a few other parties that arrived after us get seated, but I think ok maybe they called ahead. After 35 mins have passed, I check and I see our name has been crossed out on the board. (We saw the hostess scribbled out several names, but didn't think we were one of them.) I let the hostess know that we had been incorrectly crossed off the list - she just tells me that she is seating a party of 13 ahead of us and will put us at the next table. About 5 mins later she asks me if I am part of the party of 13! We got seated about 50-60 mins after we arrived. (At this point we were running late for the next thing we need to be at.) We asked if they could take our order quickly and get it out since we were running late. There was some more confusion around this with the waiter (hostess told one waiter to expedite our order, he said that he needed to get drinks to another table and would be right back, then informed us that he would have to take orders from whoever was seated first). So maybe this sounds like a fluke - you know, anyone could accidentally get crossed off the list. But as we were being seated, two parties of two were both thinking they are next for the table behind us. The hostess and servers essentially had the two couples sort it out for themselves as to who gets the table! Once the order was in and got to the kitchen, the food came out quickly and was good. This place is cash only, and has an ATM inside. I didn't use the ATM but while we were there, someone complained that they had withdrawn $100 but only got $80 from the machine. (The hostess made good with $20 from the till.) The ATM is owned/managed by the restaurant as they refilled it from the till. read more

There was so much hype about this place that it ended up just being a solid three out of five stars. It wasn't busy when we went but it took quite a bit to be greeted (even though staff saw us come in). For context, it was over 15 minutes with three staff and four tables seated. Didn't even get a little "hello, be with you soon". Didn't get any greeting until they were ready to seat us. We were patient though! After being seated and ordering our food, the food that came out was just typical diner breakfast. Nothing stood out but it's certainly a solid breakfast place. KEEP DRIVING... This is one of the first restaurants you'll come across coming in to Big Bear but I don't recommend you stop here. Very unpleasant vibes. I stood in this restaurant for almost 5 min and was never acknowledged. They use a clip board to do their greeting for them. If the service isn't bad enough, they have a health score of a B with major and minor violations from the health department. Small mom and pop restaurant that was busy but provided great service and good food. Unfortunately, many Big Bear restaurants and shops are not going to survive this Covid event due to lack of tourism but this place will definitely make it.
