Went here for breakfast in June and it was amazing. Big portions and great prices. We decided to go back a few days ago and the food was gross. Blan. The inside of my omelette was not cooked. I scraped it all out and only ate the egg. The potatoes taste like paper. The Mimosa tasted like poison, which we told them and they didn't have us pay for that. I won't be going back. After a few times back. This place is back to its awesome old self. Service is what I've always gotten and liked about this little gem. Stands out as the best breakfast in town. Update. The owner contacted me. She informed me that they now review and respond to reviews. She also said they would buy my next meal and the mocha I never got. They are one of my favorite places so it's nice to see they care. I added one star for contacting me. I will try them again before adding more. I have been having the scrapple here for years. This time It was not cooked. I told a hostess. My waitress was nowhere to be found. Maybe looking for my missing water. They brought it back unchanged and cold. Saying " if you don't like it we'll take it off ". No attempt was made to fix it. Just brought it back cold and uncooked. Fun watching my wife eat. Like it or leave it I guess. I live in Redding and have gone to Country Kitchen off and on for years. They used to be a great place for breakfast but lately they seem to have gone downhill. Went there about a month ago and ended up walking out because we got tired of waiting for someone to take our order. We went there today to give them another try. My wife had creamy "chicken" soup which didn't seem to have chicken in it but had ham in it along with big gross mouth filling chunks of ham fat. My wife does not eat pork and was grossed out by the whole experience. The waitress was very nice, and agreed there should be no ham and took the soup off the bill. I had the california omelette which was tasty but cold as were the hashbrowns. Wife's soup was also lukewarm by the way. Service was slow. It took about 15 minutes before they took our order and another half hour before they brought the cold food. All the staff we encountered were friendly and pleasant. However despite the friendly staff there are too many other problems and I will not be returning here. read more

I was up north in Redding visiting my dad last weekend. He took us out to breakfast at the Country Kitchen. It sounded like a sure bet for a down home breakfast. There were alot of cars in the parking lot, but we were seated right away. The big room they seated us in reminded me of the chow hall at girl scouts camp. Just not alot of character, or some very strange character..not sure. I could surely look past the lack of decor, if a good old breakfast was served. Our waitress had no personality...really none... She took our orders, yes that she did do. I was enjoying chatting with my Dad, and we all chatted for a while..... then I looked at my Dad's wife and said, Gee it seems like it has been a while since we ordered. She agreed, so I knew I was not in time warp. I also noticed that people that had placed their orders after us, had received their food. Then the waitress flew by and said you food is coming...(gosh I hope so!) Yes, we did get our food...I just had two eggs and two sausages...they were fine...My dad had the San Francisco Joe's special...pretty small portion but his looked fine. BUT my daughter had bacon and eggs and I just couldnt believe that any waitress would serve bacon that was so severly overcooked, it was burnt...I asked her if she wanted to take them back, but she is shy about that kind of thing and said no it was fine.... All along in my mind I was thinking, when the waitress saw the sight of that bacon she should have shoved it back in the cook's face...or that is what I would have done! (Maybe that is why I have never been a waitress??) Anyway, I was not impressed, and I am sure there are better breakfast places in Redding, a town full of restaurants.. This at one time was known as the best spot in Redding for breakfast. Well, not anymore. We had not been there in a while and will not be back. I ordered a "seafood benedict" with country potatoes. It was really tasteless. The fish and crab meat in it was so bland, I had to guess which one was the fish and which was crab because I could not taste it. The hollandaise sauce was okay, but they did not put enough of it to make up for the dryness of the fish and crab. The Shrimp still had the tails on them, so I had to pick them out and pull the tails off of them. They were over cooked and rubbery. The country potatoes were not uniformly cut, so some were burnt and others were still raw inside. And believe it or not, that was the better dish that we were served. My wife ordered a croissant with grilled chicken. The chicken breast was cut thinly and their was two pieces in it. She tried to bite the sandwich and the piece of chicken pulled out of the sandwich with her first bite. She tried to cut it with her knife and could not even cut it. It was so overcooked, it was literally like a tuff piece of jerky. When she showed it to me I could not believe it. I cannot understand how any cook with even one day experience could serve something like that? It was an insult to even have been served that. But the worst part was when we showed it to the waitress, she said she would go show it to the cook. She then came back and said they would make us something else, but my wife declined. They said we would not have to pay for it..... Well duh, she never even took a bite of it. They were not very apologetic at all. In fact they acted as if we had complained about nothing. Then again, when we went to pay, the lady asked how our food was. We told her how bad it was and she just had a strange look on her face and let out a sigh. By her body language we could tell she was annoyed that we complained about it. No apology or explanation or anything. She just handed us our check and said, "well we didn't charge you for it". I felt like I should not have even left a tip, but I still did because it was not the waitress fault. I have never seen this restaurant advertise before, but lately they have been advertising HEAVILY on T.V. and Radio. They must have lost A LOT of business with the bad food and service. No amount of advertising is going to make up for that. If you are good, you don't need to advertise. I will never go back there again. It was a Monday and maybe they had their backup cook in there, I don't know? I am all about second chances, but when the staff does not care enough to genuinely apologize for the terrible food, I will not be back. If you are a visitor to Redding, I would recommend Lulu's or Deja Vu. They are both good. read more

Thursday morning and the place isn't even full and we could not get our waitress to come over. Sat down ordered coffee and husbands half and half was curdled. We waited and waited for someone to come so he could get a new cup of coffee. As we were waiting I checked other creamers and most of them were thick and curdled. We ended up walking out without breakfast. Very disappointing. I would recommend eating somewhere else. read more

This happened some time ago, but I want to add my two cents. I ordered chicken fried steak - my particular weakness and favorite. What was presented was a hamburger, breaded and deep fried. I have eaten here many times and was very disappointed in their policy today. I ordered a 'seasonal fruit' bowl that had half melon, apples, mushy pineapples and the other half was thawed mushy blueberries. I tried to catch my waitresses' eye to have her remove the frozen fruit and replace it with fresh, but finally just ate around the blueberries. When it came time to pay the check, I asked that $2 be taken off the $4.25 cost of the 'seasonal fruit'. The waitress took the bowl away to check with management. Management came back with the bowl and told me it was not their policy to do a refund and that the fruit was fine. For $2, they just lost a customer and it's a story I will repeat. read more

I dislike writing negative reviews but at times I feel it is necessary. We recently had a late breakfast at Country Kitchen (first time there for me) and while we did enjoy the food very much, the service was poor. The server didn't greet us or say anything, she simply looked and said "anywhere's fine" with an attitude. She was terrible at taking orders and I can tell you she wasn't new, she just had an attitude (you know those people that hate their job?). Will I go back there again, sure, why not, I'll give them a second try, the food is worth it. read more

My favorite stop in Redding. I always stop for late breakfast ( eggs Benedict with moca) and take the club sandwich for the lake in the summer and in the winter for Mt Shasta to snowboard. Love the play area for little kids. The French toast, the waffles and the pancakes are to die for and when we are in a large group we order for the table to share in addition to our regular orders. I would give this a 1 star but the service has been pretty good, hence the 2 star rating. If my memory serves me right I believe I have seen a commercial on TV that shows a nicely roasted turkey being carved and thick slices atop the Club sandwich. On the same commercial there is some audio saying how" everything is cooked fresh at the Country Kitchen". Well, well, well....it just ain't so. I made a special trip there this afternoon for the Club sandwich and it had that nasty, thin, grocery-store-lunch- meat turkey and ham on the sandwich. Talk about disappointing! No flavor and definitely not homemade, freshly roasted meats on the sandwich other than good bacon. I think this will be my last trip there for anything other than maybe a breakfast as this was worse than cafeteria food at deli prices. Sorry Country Kitchen, I will be eating my Club sandwiches at another locally owned restaurant. read more

The food is good. I could not rate any better than 2 stars because of cleanliness. It was rather dirty. My water glass appeared to be well, well, used. The bottle of ketchup was disgusting. It was a glass heinz bottle of ketchup that looked as though it was being refilled hundreds of times without cleaning. Huge pet peeve. The menus were also food crusted. read more

Thanks for responding to my review but it wasn't just the ticket time.. it was the fact we were ignored.....and people who came in after us had their orders taken ...there's like you have no tracking of who sits down first.. we waited and we had a six-year-old with us who was quite impatient so just made the whole experience awful... We had to ask the girl pouring coffee if we can place our order and it still was 15 minutes later and the waitress took our order never apologized and made a mistake on my omelette said she was going to give us a discount... never did that either ....just a horrible experience read more

I came here 5 years ago and it was the most delicious breakfast and baked goods ever! I have talked this place up ever since. I tell every person I know traveling to Redding to eat there. I finally made it back to eat here....We entered and waited about 5 mins for a table. After sitting down I ordered a coffee, 15 minutes later it was delivered. 15 mins after that we had to ask for our order to be taken and our server was taking the orders of people that were seated after us. We waited 15-20 mins for our food to be delivered. (It was breakfast btw) after she brought our food and it was cold. She brought our toast after half our food was gone. We were ignored by our server for 90% of our meal. This place is usually amazing I hope that they can get their staff under control so it can go back to the home cooked restaurant that I adore. After reading the previous reviews it is now clear to me this problem has been going on for awhile. Hopefully management reads their yelp reviews and makes some serious staff adjustments. read more

First, I'm ignoring bad comments on Yelp & giving this place a chance! Offered Dark Roast coffee right away & it was good! I had a Veggie Omelet; spinach was very fresh-nice! There wasn't quite enough cheese for me though - a little dry..sorry. My 10-grain toast was also pretty dry so biscuit next time . Also, I ordered crispy home fries & got hash browns but At least they were cooked crispy. Our waitress did notice the error & offered to replace them but they looked good enough to eat so .. My Hubby had the "Choose Your Own Items" Omelet & loved it! I suggest that to be the way to order. We both love mushrooms & while mine had some (maybe 5-6), his Ham, Mushroom & Cheese Omelet had plenty of all ingredients ordered! I'll still enjoy Veggie Omelet since I'm not usually big on "breakfast meats" and because I've never had an omelet with such fresh spinach!! I'll simply order from the "Choose Your Own" omelet menu . I still feel they deserve 4 stars for the great waitress service, fresh veggies, Dark Roast coffee, cleanliness ... So, we will be back! . In-town for work, I was in need of breakfast. Found this place. It was just average. The service is slow. It took awhile for someone to come and take my order. The food took awhile too and it was just barely warm. I ordered the Chorizo and Benedict Special. The flavor was good, but like I said, it was just barely warm. And the English Muffin I got on the side was overcooked, not warm, and very crunchy. I didn't have time to have them remake it. Disappointing. read more

They have the best pancakes. So far they are the only ones that has them. Sourdough Pancakes. Normally it comes with a Peaches n' Cream. Which is awesome. I've also had them with butter and Maple Syrup which is just as good but better with the Peaches n' Cream. And they have huge cinnamon rolls. Gonna get them to go. read more

We loved this place. The food was delicious, greasy and so satisfying. It was on the way back from Shasta after a weekend of camping so we were thrilled to get some good grub in our bellies on the long car ride. Country kitchen has a pretty good breakfast although sometimes it hit or miss. The seafood eggs benedict is what I always get and it's usually pretty good and fresh. Sometimes the service can take awhile but otherwise this is a good place to have breakfast in Redding. Country Kitchen used to have the best breakfast in Redding but a few new restaurants have opened up in the past few years that make a much better breakfast. read more

I've always seen and heard about this place but haven't tried it. Reading the reviews I was a little reluctant to go but my parents were in from out of town and it's close to my house so we went for breakfast. It was very busy when we got there but were seated pretty quickly they got us drinks and then basically forgot about us for about 20-25 minutes. I flagged someone down and asked if we could place our order and they were very sweet about it and our waitress apologized and took our order. Food came out and it was worth the wait! I can't remember what my meal was called but it was an omelette with country gravy on it. The gravy had big chunks of sausage and was very flavorful. My hash browns were crispy on both sides. My dad got chicken fried steak and my mom got a basic egg plate and we all loved our food. Coffee was good too. All in all, great customer service and food, but don't go here if you're in a hurry. read more
