I went there yesterday and ashamed to say it was my first time even though I've lived here for years! I guess I thought it would be "old and greasy." Food was excellent! I hardly ever go out for breakfast but today we decided to go to Country Kitchen, Redding's #1 place for breakfast. While we ha to wait a bit on a busy Sunday morning it was worth it! We figured how to get better service, be a friend of the servers. The get immediate service, coffee, and a lovely conversation. Last weekend we were there with one other couple. After 5-6 minutes we got a menu. 10 minutes later when the server was finished talking with her friend, who, by the way, already received her breakfast, did she have time to take our order. Ultimately if you have a lot of time you will get a good meal albeit cold. I would highly suggest a plate warmer since it takes so long to get your meal. We did like the cold food and will try it again to see if having more than 4 people in the restaurant makes a difference. read more

I am shocked that there are any reviews written nicely about this place. Not only did it take what felt like forever to get our food someone invited the guacamole fairy to poop on my omelet, disgusting. My toast was extremely burnt and it was not sour dough I don't know what they think they gave me but it wasn't sourdough bread. I also have never waited 20 minutes for a refill on my coffee, and water, I had to actually set my cup on the edge of the table to get anyone's attention. I will not step inside that building as long as it is country kitchen. And though I did not need a butter knife there was none too give, what kind of restaurant does not have butter knives...? read more

Not a fan. When we got here I asked if there was anything organic in the restaurant and the manager had to be called... then could not confirm anything except the dark roast coffee. My partner got coffee but said it was not outstanding due to the lack of healthy sweetener options and lack of organic cream selection. In my quest to discover the best breakfast place in town, I visited this place today before work. Pleasantly surprised by the coffee, dark roast was an option besides house coffee, which is always nice. Ordered Belgian Waffle with eggs and bacon. All cooked very well. Smaller side portions than I'd like, but the price was right. Servers very friendly and helpful. Will definitely eat here again, as its located pretty close to my work. read more

The atmosphere and food are great. I enjoy coming and dining in with my sisters but every time we have came in and paid in cash we were given wrong change. The first time it happened we were short $5. It was annoying but we figured they must of needed it. The 2nd time we paid we were short changed $10. We had to argue and explain it to the lady at the register like she was in kindergarten how much the bill was, what we paid in cash, and what our change should of been. She called another server over and the other server was also incompetent and after 10 minutes they realized it was wrong and gave me my $10. None of them apologized. Service was friendly--yes a little slow, but it was really busy. I've wanted to try this place for a long time and see the commercials on tv often! Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I was seated right away, but it took over 30 minutes to get my breakfast, so don't arrive starving! I got the eggs benedict and the hollandaise was flat and didn't taste like much. The hash browns were nothing special at all either. They also don't have diet coke.. Unluckily I was seated right by the bathrooms, but luckily you couldn't smell them. I could literally see in the women's bathroom when someone would open the door. For the cost I wasn't impressed with the food at all. The staff was super friendly, though! Really love their breakfast. And you know the food is good by the amount of people always there. The only issue I have had is with the staffing. I've been here several times and its been hit or miss. My boyfriend and i usually do breakfasts at Denny's, and that will continue to be our tradition. I first want to say, I've noticed the manager has commented on some reviews, but not others. And every response it just an excuse that they are busy on weekends, that is because weekends are when most people have time to go out for breakfast. How many people need to give a review about the long wait and cold food in order for the service to change? We thought we would give this place a try, and we took my mom last weekend who was visiting from out of town. After sitting down, they wanted to get our order right away, but since it was our first time being there we weren't ready. Then, when we were ready, we sat there for about 15 minutes and nobody came back. My boyfriend had to get up to let them know we were ready. The waitress came back to our table and apologized that there was a shift change and she thought someone else was covering us. We gave her our order, and for some reason, she began chit chatting as if we knew her. I'm not trying to be rude, I don't mind a little chit chat, but this was extensive. She told us about her husband being home alone with her child, and how she was a singer, but not really an artist, and on and on. When the waitress brought us our food, she could see were in the middle of a serious conversation, but she comes up singing loudly, and again talking on and on about herself. We were trying to visit with my mom, who we do not get to see often. This was getting very frustrating. The food was a disappointment. My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were burnt on the bottom, dry, and crumbled and broken up. The gravy was disgusting. I got the french toast, it was cold and flavorless. I can make better french toast than that at home. The sausage was not edible. My mom got an omelette, it was cold. While we were eating, the waitress actually came and sat down at our table. Again, she could see we were in the middle of a conversation, and she begins showing us pictures on her phone. It is one thing to be friendly, and make people feel comfortable, but this woman took what was supposed to be a catch up visit with my mom, and turned it into sharing her personal biography. She then saw that my boyfriend did not touch his biscuits and gravy, and asked if he didn't like them. He told her he did not. She offered to get him something else, but did not even take it off our bill! We ended up paying $60 for a breakfast that we barely ate. We will never be going back. read more

Ate there Tuesday, July 19, 2016... service was mediocre and the food overcooked, cold, and tasteless. I was with a group and someone else was paying, otherwise I would have sent the food back. I'm sure the owner will say if I had sent it back they would have fixed it, but why don't they care enough to send out good food the first time? They weren't busy and it wasn't about saving money on cheap ingredients, it was about not caring enough to send out decent food. They have abandoned their former standards and just don't care. I've lived in Redding for quite some time and kept hearing on the radio how this establishment had the best breakfast in town . So I took this opportunity to try and impress my girlfriend and mother in law. When we arrived, I was surprised to see the place with this so called best breakfast was replicating a ghost town, decor and all. I figured with so few in attendance that we would get the royal treatment. Boy was I wrong! We were ignored and eventually had to seat ourselves. Waitress was gone in action and when she finally acknowledged us, she decided to talk about herself versus taking our order. I figured I'd go with the biscuits and gravy. You know, since it's apparently their "tasty homemade recipe". Girlfriend and mother in law went with a fruit cup and waffles. So off went the waitress with our order. By the time our food arrived, it was almost time for lunch. (wasn't busy) The coffee was cold, creamer curdled and that tasty homemade biscuit recipe.... The worst biscuits and gravy I've ever had by far! No exaggeration here. The biscuits were extremely hard and had a strange texture to them. Once I was able to cut through the shell of the biscuit, it just crumbled. This might be something they found on the moon landing. Not sure, but for some reason, that's what my biscuits kept reminding me of. So a bite later, I decided I couldn't bring myself to try another bite. When the waitress came back to take care of the check, she seen that all my food was there literally untouched and asked, "did you not like it"? I told her it was dry and hard. Hands down best breakfast in redding. They know how to cook eggs which may seem trivial to some but is very hard to find at most eateries. For some the atmosphere may seem quaint or to out of date. Their limited hours of breakfast and lunch also may put some off, yet they do what they do best so no dinner service is needed. To truly judge this place you need to appreciate good eggs (over easy is my favorite) and then stray from the norm a little. Try the sausage patty over the links. Several types of toast to choose from and the coffee is hot, good, and refilled quickly. One should however not forget part of their name, Bakery. Now that I have said this. Try the cinnamon rolls. Not only are they almost the size of your face and the thickness of a phone book. They are hot, gooey, and well they talk to your soul. read more

Our family made our first visit to Country Kitchen shortly after the Carr Fire broke out, seeking a place to share a meal as a family and have something feel "normal" after being evacuated. The restaurant was full to capacity, yet every employee was smiling, positive and so eager to help. The restaurant was short-staffed due to their own employees being evacuated from their homes, but other employees were jumping in to fill jobs. Our waiter was kind and friendly, managing the crowds with a smile on his face and a peaceful demeanor. on our way home from Portland to Santa Rosa we were looking for a place to eat. All of the restaurant off of Hwy 5 were fast food and we wanted a decent meal. We found Country Kitchen and were very pleased. Not only did they have delicious fresh food but Gluten Free cornbread which was delicious. The staff especially Brooke, were very nice and accommodating . We hadn't realized the restaurant had actually closed but they served as though it was right on time ( unlike many other restaurants where they lock you out at the time of closure.) They even gave us extra coffee for the ride home. Try out this sweet restaurant and bakery to make your day a little happier. read more

This place used to be decent, but I went there with my family this morning (Sunday Nov. 7, 2009) for breakfast and it was absolutely terrible. The service was slow and bad...the server was rude about the kitchen getting my order wrong. Our order was wrong...my Eggs Florentine were supposed to have shrimp on top and it had exactly two (tiny ones). According to the menu, my tomatoes were supposed to be roasted and they were raw. My husband ordered the hash and the portion was tiny and his potatoes were not cooked at all...they were actually still hard and starchy. The bacon was like beef jerky, the flapjacks tasted like cardboard and the syrup was watery. The food was way overpriced for the quality and portion size...there was no toast or fruit, or jam or extra's of any kind (usually these are the things that make a homey place like this good and keep you from caring if you spend a little extra). On a positive note, the Hollandaise sauce was really good (although there was not enough of it on my eggs), but with a few minor exceptions, I felt like I could have gotten the same sub-par meal at Denny's for about half the price. Probably won't try this restaurant again until they get new management. read more

I don't usually have to write bad reviews but I have to say this was without a doubt the worst place I have ever been to for breakfast. We got there and they were busy so I took that into consideration when we waited over 45 minuets for our meals. By the time it came, everyone had cleared out and there were only a few tables left. My breakfast was warm but that is because it was under the warming lamp for god knows how long, my wife's breakfast was ice cold except for the eggs. The waffle was so cold even soft butter would not melt. We asked for and never got the manager and the waitress came over with a look on her face like what is wrong. We asked her to take back the breakfast and bring something warm, two eggs over easy, sausage and hash browns. What she got was the sausage that was on the first plate, the eggs that were on the first place and NO hash browns. Never did talk to the manager. Bill came to 32 dollars, not worth half of that for what we got and had to eat. I will never go back and buyer beware, the staff is not all that great and the cook needs to manage the kitchen better so that people don't have to write such horrible reviews. This was my first time here in a very long time. I was super disappointed with the service. My wife and I were seated quickly then pretty much forgotten about. Noonre checked on my coffee, our waitress was no where to be found, and a few people standing around not doing much of anything. While my wife and I were being ignored, a worker brought in her granddaughter to meet staff. As I'm sitting there, grandma goes in the back and brings her out some biscuits and gravy! The same thing i ordered, and she's choking down & I haven't even got a refill on my coffee! Also, the food was bland and not worth it. I would never recommend this place. Ps..
