I walked into the Cox Communications store on Sand Canyon Drive expecting to exchange equipment. Instead, I accidentally bought tickets to a live comedy show. Step 1: Sign in immediately. Step 2: Watch eight employees somehow all be "busy" while accomplishing absolutely nothing. It was fascinating. One employee was deeply committed to a laptop, another seemed to have an intense relationship with their phone, and the rest had clearly mastered the Olympic sport of looking occupied while avoiding eye contact. Then came my favorite part... After patiently waiting my turn, two customers who arrived after me asked an employee "one quick question." You know... the famous "quick question" that somehow turned into an entire customer service appointment. Apparently, the queue is more of a decorative suggestion. Eventually, my name was called by Nichole, who looked like someone had just informed her that break time was officially over. No "Hi," no "How are you?"--just pure enthusiasm... if enthusiasm had been unplugged. Every question I asked seemed like I was requesting the secrets to the universe. Meanwhile, the gum chewing suggested she was mentally already clocked out and halfway to Friday night. By the time I left, I found myself thinking, "You know what? The DMV isn't so bad after all." Honestly, next time I'll just call customer service from home. At least if I'm going to be frustrated, I can do it in sweatpants. Cox has mastered the speed of fiber internet. After countless unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue through online channels and phone calls, I visited this store and met an associate named Michael (as shown on his badge). He was extremely patient and tried multiple times on-site using the Cox Communications website system as well as the call center, but the issue still couldn't be resolved. He then continued exploring various alternative approaches to help set it up, and even consulted with his manager to seek additional solutions. In the end, he successfully resolved the long-standing issue I had been facing--setting up automatic payments under a trust account--which had taken me several weeks to try to fix. I am truly grateful for Michael's patience, attention to detail, and strong sense of responsibility in helping me solve this difficult problem. read more

As a Cox cable customer in Newport Beach, my nearest Cox store is in Irvine. When our cable converter in the kitchen failed over the weekend, we removed it and took it to the Cox store. I sent my wife, as I wanted her to gain the experience of exchanging a defective rental converter. In the past, they simply scanned the barcode on the bottom and promptly provided an exchange. However, this time they gave her a hard time. They insisted she provide the name of my first pet, as a child. This is a secret question to prove who you are, when all else fails. Needless to say, she had no idea, as she is not me. The fact she had the Cox rental equipment and was simply looking for an exchange was not enough. Se had a drivers license with the same last name and address as the account, meant nothing. She was forced to call me to get the secret answer. I consider this elder abuse, as she was 80 and had trouble hearing through the entire ordeal. I do not blame the employee, as they were trained to make these unreasonable requests. It is the Cox policy that I find fault with. Am I happy with the Cox cable service? In general yes, but paying more than $3,600 yearly for equipment rental and service should provide me better customer service. What would Cox had done if I sent my grandson or niece to do the exchange? Maybe Cox selling out to Spectrum brought about this change? Or Cox has simply decided to become less friendly to their paying customers? In any case, should I have any further poor service, I will switch to satellite service. Do everything in your power to avoid Cox for your home internet needs. Check your area for Google Fiber or Verizon. Over the last 20 years of using home internet, I have never had a home internet plan that was capped with data limits. Without knowing, this store signed me up for a home internet plan with capped data limits. The plan costs $110/month so it is reasonable to assume for that price you are getting unlimited internet, wrong, that price gets you a capped data plan. We have 2 people living in a 3 bedroom townhome. From the first month on the plan we would start to get "nearing your data limit" warning emails with 7-10 days left in the billing cycle. Once your limit is reached, they add $10 for every additional 50GB of data that you need. We have had several bills stacking up to $170/month with their overages added! (For a capped internet plan, with 2 people using the internet, with a $110 base fee!). Unbelievable. The cherry on top is that since this began happening 1 month into the plan, I started to keep my cell phone on cellular data only (unlimited data via tmobile) to avoid using the limited home wifi data that we have access to. Even when keeping my cell phone off home wifi permanently, we continue to get hit with monthly overages from $20-$60/month in addition to the $110 base fee. Cannot wait to get off this plan and away from Cox. Another massive company taking advantage of its customers and providing low quality customer service when you call in. read more

My bill increased from $279 to $379, consequently I went to the Quail Hill store and met with them to discuss how I could reduce the bill. After about 20 minutes the young lady who was helping me was only interested in selling me a mobile plan...nothing about how to reduce my bill about the packages or services I had. I experienced intermittent outages for a year before deciding to switch providers. The outages were small, so I won't say that cox had bad service. They do have more expensive options to guarantee continuous service that are way more expensive than other basic services that don't have outages. My issue with cox is I have to beg them to cancel my service. I have been on with a representative right now and it's been 30 mins of continuous chatter (online with live agent) and I just keep asking to cancel service and they won't!!! It shouldn't take me 45 mins to cancel service. I will be like please cancel my service and they will ask how many people in my household and I'm like no cancel the service there is nothing else you can sell me on please cancel. I even said I would report them to my cc company bc I keep asking to cancel (this was 20 mins into the convo). This was the only thing to get them to stop!!! And at this moment, it's still not canceled! This drives me away from cox and makes me never want service with them again. read more

This store is terrible! No sign of customer service or even professionalism! While I was trying to close my account, Jason who helped with the process, did not even greet me and while recording the returned router and other tv boxes on his computer, he was dancing and apparently his customer was not noticeable and unfortunately this is where the COX is now and stands for, "we have the monopoly of Irvine and we do not care about our customers." But technology is changing rapidly and once more people become aware and well educated about technology and providers that offer such technology and the same services, including Internet and TV, they will definitely switch from COX to their competitors. I am one of those customers. Cox home internet is not something that they claim. Our case was that watching YouTube every night and losing the internet because of buffering in the middle of a program. Too much hassle going to resetting the router, etc. but not solving the issue. I did the troubleshooting myself because of my technical background, however except here and there fixing the problem, we had to ending up having a technician! In addition, COX TV HD channels are so bad and they should not even called "HD." My son was watching sports, and complained every single time! One more thing: Cox spends so much money on marking, therefore, they have no choice except jacking the prices, but again, they are not well aware of competition or technology, and daily losing their base/customers. I am a business man with a Ph.D, and taught business courses at best schools for years including San Diego State University, so, I know what I am sharing with you and I am a true believer that COX will lose their monopoly and eventually many customers down the road. The staff (all of them) seem genuinely happy to be at work. They smile and greet you as soon as you walk in the door. They ask you sign in (DO IT!). When your name is called, they focus on YOU. No phone calls answered, only the common courtesy of recognition to those who walk in the door. Hat's off for great customer service to Amir & Hugo. Both have helped me and MORE than met my needs by answering all my questions and getting me what I want versus overselling. Moved out of state and returned my equipment to this store as directed. Then received a 1300.00 bill. Returned to the store to reconcile and they happen to find in their system that I did in fact return my equipment. Once again, provided me with a receipt showing 0.00 balance. A month later, received a 1300.00 bill. The incompetence of the people involved and the shit systems they have in place result in headaches and multiple inconveniences for this past customer. This debacle ultimately hit collections and my credit report. It is a shame I was a customer for 13 years, and this was the send off I received. I'm not a big fan of dish or Direct, however, I will use any other service in any of my homes within a Cox geography. Never again. read more

Worst customer experience ever! Been a customer of Cox for 2 years and they lock you in on a promo so you can't change service but they raise the price within the 2 year period. We moved recently and Cox is no longer a available option. We signed up for Spectrum and the same service is $100 less. Upon cancellation they said my promo price ended and it was now $40 more a month. My bill went from $191/month to $225/month. I went into the store today and wanted to pay my $191/month and be done with Cox. My rep Amir Khalilpoir stated my promo ended and normally most customers get on a new promo. I told him I moved out of your area and that was not possible. He was unfriendly, no helpful and started shaking because I didn't want to listen to his deceitful story. The order was done quickly and my reference number was generated right away. We arrived at the store and within just a few minutes the wonderful staff had our new equipment ready to go. Everyone was friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. Everything worked beautifully at home and a few questions to a COX staff person about installation of the WIFI had us working within a short time.
