We went to Craft Urban for lunch on a Friday. The menu feels like the place is "trying too hard" to be unique. My husband had a burger that had zucchini, and some type of a tomato paste and balsamic that he thought was way too sweet - but not much else looked appealing due to the combinations of ingredients. Went for a late-night ramen on friend's suggestion. I was skeptical but tried anyway. I know that is rapidly becoming popular in America, but in Chicago ramen quality is very, very low to say the least and often results in HUGE disappointment. The only exception is when the ramen restaurant is owned and operated by Japanese. (I say this because I grew up in Japan and I know what authentic ramen is) I certainly didn't expect the same quality and authenticity as Japanese ramen, but even then, it was disgusting. It was such a disrespect to even call what they made ramen after all. They probably thought any noodle in a broth could be ramen, but no. It's not that simple. As Japanese, I am so sad when I find American people are misinformed and believe that things such as California rolls are sushi, and Hibachi style is Japanese when neither are Japanese at all. read more

Disappointing- brisket burger and crab cake were average. My Friend ordered the fish and chips and when the order first came out we were waiting for the rest of it. Great service. Bland food. Different experience on each visit. Maybe we ordered the wrong things this time, but I remembered every dish being outstanding during our previous experiences here. The cocktails we ordered were hit or miss, the old fashioned was forgettable but the whiskey smash was great. Wine was super over priced, Hahn pinot for $100 bottle, really? Bean dip (meh), ricotta appetizer (ok), skirt steak special (meh) nothing memorable and a bit disappointed. Left hungry and went across the street to have another appetizer and dessert following our meal here. Not what we really planned on. We made a reservation for a Saturday night. This is the best restaurant in Geneva, IL hands down. The food, service and drinks were amazing (see photos). We were wary about the price but trust me it's 100% worth it. Good sized portions and everything we got was amazing!!! Smoked salmon appetizer, carrots were complimentary due to a mistake in our order, short rib, rainbow trout, and fries. We order 4 different cocktail drinks that were all equally fantastic!! After further thought and discussion with other foodie friends from the local area I think this place is WAY overpriced for what we got and the quality. They are charging Niche restaurant prices and they are not even in the same league as Niche. After reading the article on the owners in the KC chronicle it seems this place is WAY below their own standards. Maybe we just went on a day when nobody was expediting/tasting at the pass but if your going to charge city prices you better bring the quality which they do not. I dont want to give them another chance at their prices when we can get double the quality for half the price at most places on 3rd street. If they keep down the quality we experienced they will be out of business soon. Pick it up guys or 3rd street will drop you like a rock. read more

Went to craft urban on a Friday afternoon and there were only two tables of two there. After being seated, we waited at least 15 minutes for anyone to come over and take our order. We had people who worked there pass us up a few times without even acknowledging us. My husband and I got up and walked out. The waitress stopped me to ask if she could help me... Yeah, 15 minutes ago. From all the other poor reviews, their wait stuff seems to be lackluster, the food service slow and nothing special. Too many great spots in Geneva for you to waste your time at craft urban. I'd be shocked if they're open 6 months from now. read more

The BEST breakfast! Don't make the mistake of having anything "ordinary" from this restaurant. The chicken and waffles are to die for along with their tender and juicy bacon. Also the potatoes are worth the extra fullness you will feel! Mimosas and Bloody Mary also great. Only moment of disappointment was the French toast came out cold but they took care of it right away and it was yummy! A little pricy on the drinks for breakfast- $5 is more appropriate- they charge $10. Overall when I visit the area I will go back. read more

As you walk through the door you will immediately be welcomed by a very homey atmosphere. The service is amazing with very nice waitresses who are always ready to help with what ever you need. The food was out of this world! I ordered the cheese curds with the falafel and crispy chicken. One of the best lunch meals I have had in a long time. Made reservation for 4 to our 1st visit after seeing other reviews.. was told to wait upon arriving. bar was packed with no seats available and had no room to hang out except in the aisles looking down on diners. ordered drinks to learn they have no vodka choices other than local brands. martinis arrived half full at $13 or $14 ea. very weak pour. seated after 15 min wait. ordered 2 apps. tried the date app and arrived late with no dates. reported error to waitress as the reason we ordered was for the dates. dinner took an agonizing 40 minutes to arrive. bill presented and was told. mgr would have to adj bill for app that was not right. mgr refused to adj $8 app so we adjusted our tip as the the app error in addition to the long wait & service was absolutely horrible. none of us will ever return to this poorly run business. food was just ok. read more

We made it in on a nice, quiet Sunday evening for dinner. Geneva is loaded with options for eats and we try to rotate around some. We were very glad to "give it a try" with Craft Urban. When the shrimp cocktail came out, we realized things were going to be interesting and quite good. It actually reminded us of a version of tuna poke that we would gobble up in CA when we head out there...but with a shrimp cocktail twist. So refreshing and a great mix of flavor. Sticking with the "CA reminiscence" theme, we ordered the avocado bread and spread (they had a GF option that was very good). Again, loved it and wanted more. Entrees are a nice round selection of items. I went with the craft urban burger. Loved everything about it, but the tomato jam does need to be slightly offset with a tad of "heat", or a little less of it. Otherwise the burger was perfect and bun nicely toasted. The butcher's beef for the night was flank steak. Perfectly prepared and the ramp chimchurri was an excellent choice for the cut. Wrapped it up with the chocolate mousse...creatively served in a s'more manner with tight execution on roasting that marshmallow "ball" on top. Casual digs, with a wide mix of styles and time periods influencing the decor. Couldn't quite place it into any one category, but maybe that's a good thing. They have a decent outdoor patio area and service is very friendly. It was nice to go to a place in Geneva on a Sunday night and not be told "we are currently out of 'blank', 'blank' and 'blank'"... a theme with some places there lately. Food was ok, nothing extraordinary. They're very vague on the menu. I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the butchers beef (ribeye, tonight). Food was good don't get me wrong, but not worth the price, in my opinion. Drinks weren't that great to me. And service was mediocre. Second: The food was great, if you have a massive hangover that needs cured. So. Much. Sugar. I've had pumpkin pie that wasn't as sweet as the pumpkin soup. Tossing pickles into the batter of the cheese curds was a great thought, but sweet pickles? (I know, the menu warned me they were B&B, but it was still an unpleasant surprise.) And the dipping sauce for the fries? So. Much. Sugar. Honey on the chicken. And while the Crispy Potato Green Salad was savory, I never expected those crispy potatoes to be potato chips. We went to Craft Urban for the first time and glad we did. Nice vibe with a good selection of music playing, very comfortable feeling. CU was doing a brisk business even though it was only around 4:30, bar area and tables almost full. Our server, Julia was very nice and accommodating without being overwhelming. She brought me a couple of samples of different draft beers I wanted to try and even brought the bottle of wine my wife had ordered so we could see the label. We started out with the cheese curds, they were just "ok" but the sauce made them better. I had the Beef Short Ribs which was delicious, a little fat piece attached but that's to be expected with that cut of meat. My wife had the Butchers Beef that was very very good! Nice mix of flavors on both meals but I'd get the BB next time. Looking forward to going back and trying some of the other inviting items on the menu. Craft Urban is a fun place with a nice selection of draft beers, wine list and a unique menu. Pay them a visit, you won't be disappointed. read more

Seriously Now I'll start with the vibe - Craft Urban has some of the most beautiful mural art I have ever seen. Gives a warm, feminine energy to the place. The Wait staff are ultra attentive and know the menu like the back of their hand. Now Let's get to the goods, the food. Here is what we had last time we were in (Beware - my crew and I like to eat like its the last supper) Snacks - Shrimp cocktail - Interesting twist on the standard shrimp cocktail. Had shrimp cocktail & ceviche Kick that I really loved. Craft Fondue - If you do not like melted cheese and truffles, please stop reading this right now, We have Nothing in common. Cheese Curds -  The Tempura batter allows for a lighter breading that makes them not as heavy.  Also Refer to the Craft Fondue description above. Breads & Spreads - We Ran Through them All! Figs were my Favorite Ricotta was my wife's Favorite Avocado was my BFFs Favorite Smoked Salmon was my BFF's Wife's Favorite. So basically get them all, you can't go wrong :) Salads We had the Beets & Beets - I'm all about that Beet life.  You should be as well Now Dinner :) Harvest Risotto - I'm Italiano, so if I don't eat Risotto when I see it on the menu my mama will slap me with her wooden spoon.  That night it had truffles in it as well.  Serious delicious Sticky Chicken - This is so good. Just order one to share at the table, It's perfect. And Lastly I had a Burger.  It was one of those delicious ones they put up on IG.  It was perfect. We had the pleasure of visiting Craft Urban for the first time last night. Wow. We were celebrating a friend's birthday. From the moment were were greeted to when we sat down for dinner, we were welcome, as if we were old friends. It's obvious, the owner, Joey, has a great rapport with staff and knows what he is doing. The worst customer service experience I've had at a restaurant in a while and I understand being understaffed and with everyone being new due to COVID. 1 order was missing items and one order was never delivered. It took 15 minutes after everyone got their food to get the order and the waitress ignored us because the food she said would be 2 minutes took 15. So then we didn't have any service because she didn't want to come back. When we expressed frustration about the service she rudely told us that "we should have a little patience because they were busy". But we still were missing a meal after 15 minutes so it seems reasonable that we might be a little frustrated at this point. I understand that things happen and places get busy but being blatantly rude and ignoring your guests for your mistakes seems a little crazy. And then finally to add to her rudeness when we were leaving she was very nasty in her tone when she told us to have a great day. I can do without the passive aggressive bitchyness when I got out to lunch and the waitress is the one who didn't communicate on all the issues or stop by our table to check in us. We tried this restaurant last night for the first time and I will definitely go back. It was very busy but the service was attentive and I appreciate the farm to table to concept. We had the chicken liver pate and we split a lobster roll with the truffle french fries. The pate was the clear winner, it was excellent and we loved the capers. The lobster roll was fine, didn't knock our socks off but was a very solid choice. We are definitely interested in coming back so that we can try more of the menu. Overall I think its a solid restaurant pick that you won't be disappointed with! read more

Probably my all-time favorite restaurant. Excellent farm-to-table fare, locally sourced food, and and excellent, professional staff. We had my 50th birthday at Craft Urban last December, and they were very accommodating, making it a night I'll never forget. Fresh food, amazing flavors, not your run off the mill entrees-very diverse! Love that they are conscientious about our planet and do not produce extra unnecessary waste (I.e plastic straws).
