The boil was really good! The sauce was just right and the seafood was the perfect size and fresh.

We decided to try this Crafty Crab. We were virtually the only ones in the restaurant at lunch. Service was fine when the server did come by otherwise we had to flag him down. We both had the shrimp basket. It was OK. But the sides... The corn cob was poorly cooked, possibly microwaved. The cole slaw, OK. BUT. DON'. EAT. THE. HUSH. PUPPIES. I've never tasted anything quite like these. And most of the menu is overpriced. read more

Very disappointed from the get-go. Walked in the door and was told that no liquor could be served on the patio. This was our favorite spot when it was Pinchers. We were seated inside immediately - new restaurant, a Friday night, plenty of open tables, should have known something was up. Menu was very limited and pricey compared to their predecessor. Our server was pushing the boiled items - their most expensive. Our food came in an overflowing plastic basket. When we asked for a plate, they brought Styrofoam plates! Main restaurant is brightly lit. The two booths in the back that seat 8 have one light bulb for two tables - just a dark corner. Very disappointed by the whole experience. So Crafty Crab... its all in the name. A group of 4 of us decided to try this place out. Upon arrival there was confusion. 2 people at the hostes stand... one asking how many in your party... the other talking confused and or agitated to the other. 3 times we told her 4 people... the restaurant had about 35 to 40 tables and about 6 were being used.. so she said... it will be a 20 minute wait... ok we were ok with that... then... 5 minutes later they sat us... so we were pleasantly surprised... then we sat over 10 minutes before a server came over and said... I will be right back... he shortly came back and got our drink order. It took about 12 minutes to get the drinks to the table. (Now half the table was agitated). The mixed drinks were very good when they came out... but the draft beer was flat. Now about the food.... Remember when I said it is all in the name?.. Well if you don't love crab this place is not for you... it is all pretty much shell fish unless you only want sides or chicken tender basket... No grill fish or chicken at all... But they do disclose it in the name. When the food came out it was good.. for $30 plus per plate... I was looking for amazing. All of us agreed we will not return. I usually end my posts with something about... if you like _________ you should give it a try... Sorry I got nothing ... lower prices... yes then worth a try. My parents went there last weekend. They ordered stone crab claws cold - as they should be eaten. When they came they were hot. My mother sent them back and asked them to be cold. They brought the same ones back but on ice. My father asked to speak to the manager. When the manager came he asked what the issue was and when my mother told him, he told her "he could only give her a 10% discount and he could throw her out of the restaurant for being disruptive". My mother, a 78 year old woman, could be thrown out for asking for her food order to be corrected. When they walked out the assistant manager apologized and was near tears about manager's behavior. This place is amazing! Emma was our server and was so nice and attentive. I ordered the crawfish and shrimp broil with Cajun seasoning and it was full of flavor. The medium spicy flavor wasn't too spicy but had the perfect amount of kick. You also get a bib and gloves to help keep you mess free. Will be coming here again! read more

If I could give the Crafty Crab zero stars I would. The food was alright! But it was definitely the customer service that was LACKING! I ordered to go and then drove 40 miles total because my family wanted a crab boil. We ordered blue crab, Dungeness crab and king crab. When I got home and opened the bag and there was no Dungeness crab in the bag. I called the crafty crab to ensure I wasn't charged for this. The manager got on the phone and said the he spoke with one of the chefs, the owner and her husband who was the "executive chef" and they were positive that the Dungeness crab was in the bag. I work for a seafood company who sells shrimp and crab and I know the difference between Dungeness, king and blue crabs. THERE WERE NO DUNGENESS CRABS in the bag. I was simply asking for a refund on the $30.99. The manager's response was that he "has 3 people in the kitchen assuring him that the crab was in the bag and that's all he could do for me, but on my next visit he can give me 10% off my meal." Are you freaking kidding me?!? I spent a little over a hundred dollars...so basically you're saying, you messed up and you'll give me $10 off my next meal! I'll never give you another dollar. read more

We had the worst experience here. We went on a Saturday night and it took over an hour to get a beverage. We go out a lot on the weekend and know that there will be a wait and things get busy but waiting an hour for water is ridiculous. The server even went to get the manager because she forgot our table and felt bad but the manager never even came over or acknowledged us. Even after the server remembered us, we still had terrible, slow service. Later on, a team lead came over and told us that drinks would be here soon and nervously ran away from the table to avoid any complaints or confrontation. We finally order food and that takes just as long to arrive as the drinks. My husband and brother ordered the fried oysters and they were mushy on the inside. I ordered one of the boils as did my friends and they came out hot but completely over sauced and bleh. This was a terrible experience which can happen. Maybe if the manager even acknowledged the terrible service it would have been enough to give them another try. Their menu also says no returns so if you have an issue with your food, you can't even send it back. To top it all off when we were leaving the managers stopped a family leaving and accused them of not paying the entire bill and made a scene in front of everyone. They don't want to take care of their patrons when they sit for an hour without even a water or a glance in our direction but they are sure to chase you out the door to get their money! read more

I don't usually write reviews but after a birthday dinner for my son here, I thought I should. Place was very clean & staff was courteous. Very happy with Bria,our waitress. Food, prices, & servicing sizes were great. Their "signature" seasoning (Old Bay type) was awesome. Only downside the first round of drinks came a little slow..but whatever..wasn't really a negative. I don't get the bad reviews. If you have every been & enjoy a beachside steamed crab joint and love cracking steamed crabs & shelling shrimp with a cold beer this is your place in Carrollwood. read more

Tried for the first time. Exceeded expectations. Great concept. I thought it was reasonable for shellfish (never cheap). Fun experience, service a little slow but the server was very nice. We have blue crab, Dungeness and clams with crawfish. Blue crab were huge and delicious. Dungeness was excellent. Clams were really nice, small and tender. Crawsfish were really big and tasty. I took my mother here for her birthday. A first and last time for both of us. Wasn't impressed with the food. The women's restroom was a complete mess and didn't look like it had been cleaned or the trash emptied in a couple of days. My mother even reported it to the manager but when I went in 45 minutes later, there was still the mess. On a good note, and the only reason for 2 stars instead of 1, is because of our server. Great food. I'm surprised by the reviews where people didn't think there was enough of a variety in the menu. This is a seafood boil restaurant, you pick your seafood, seasoning, and heat. That's the way it works. Husband and I had the snow crab, shrimp, and sausage with Boom seasoning and it was delicious. Staff was prompt and friendly. This experience was very disappointing. This was the first time we've been here and will be the last unfortunately. We arrived over an hour and half before closing time, and felt Ignored and like we were an inconvenience to the staff. The food was mediocre. The service was less then desirable. We had to wait several minutes to be greeted, while the restaurant was for the most part empty. We had to wait 5 minutes for a straw to then have to reask before getting it. Once our food was delivered, we asked for a second crab cracker, which we ate both of our boils while sharing one since it was never brought to the table. We witnessed very unprofessional mannerisms from employees. We watched a server spray another employee with what looked like windex in the middle of the dining room. They played more on their phones and talked to each other then interacting with us. The decor was the coolest part of our experience. We hope this helps as encouraging words for this restaurant to better themselves so they can continue in a positive manner in the carrollwood area. Best of luck to anyone who gives them a shot. I went here on a Friday night with some friends and waited almost an hour to get our food with little to no explanation or apology. I had to hunt down a manager myself to get the bill (we were going to cash out our drinks and leave after 45 minutes of waiting.) He was mumbling an apology and saying that he was going to "speak to the waitress" and "check out the kitchen" etc. with NO conviction nor offer to comp our bill! Most restaurants would offer to comp the bill or at least our drinks to show good customer service. Our waitress was MIA most of the time and became a little snippy when were mentioned the slow service. Our food FINALLY came out as we were about to leave, and we decided to stay only because we knew we would have to wait more to get food at another restaurant. The food was decent, I had the fried catfish (nothing to call home about) and my friends had the crab boils with shrimp. They liked the food, but the experience took away most of our enjoyment.
