I came here on my lunch since I was in the area and I saw that there are really good reviews. I ordered a mild chicken sandwich on brioche with french fries. Remember to check in to get a free drink if you spend over $15! They have a self serve kiosk if you plan on ordering and paying with your card. Otherwise someone will come over and take your order if you are paying in cash. I think that set up is pretty nifty. The sandwich was very delicious and perfectly fried with good flavor and just enough heat for me. Seriously though, that flavor was perfection. My fries were lightly seasoned, just like I requested. The only thing I didn't care for is that I had a lot of what seemed like end of the bag fries, meaning, there were a lot of very short length fries which was hard to dip in my catch-up without getting it all over my fingers. This place is delicious! As someone who has tried hot chicken in Nashville, Crimson Coward tastes just as good if not better. There's online ordering which is great. We ordered two sandwiches and they were ready by the time we got to the store. There's a parking lot in front of the store which made parking easy. Immediately I was impressed by the size of the sandwich. The chicken is absolutely massive and extended beyond the brioche bun. The sauce is amazing and the pickles gave it a zesty punch. Their chicken is amazing, I ordered their signature burger and loved it! But the first time I ordered a soda, there was a weird black substance that came out of the soda machine into my cup. When I brought it up to one of the employees they were very sorry and figured out what was wrong with the machine before getting my drink for me. The macaroni was particularly offensive, it had little flavor besides the pepper and was overall unsavory. The sandwich was okay. It had an overpowering fried taste, which made me feel kind of sick. Forget Dave's hot chicken, respectfully. Once you try this place you'll feel the same. All I have to say is loaded Mac and cheese. This ain't no BS Mac and cheese, this is the real deal. Topped hot chicken and crimson sauce. Nothing comes close to it. It's the perfect combination of spicy, creamy, savory, crunchy and over all goodness (FYI this is an off menu item) and it's quite a lot of food. This rating is ENTIRELY based on the the fried pickles. As a fried pickle connoisseur that I am, this rating is not given lightly. Crimson coward by far has the best fried pickles that I have come across at ANY establishment. The pickles are thinly sliced to perfection and coated in the most amazing light breading. You get the most perfect ratio of pickle and breading, then dip it in the sauce and these are absolutely to die for. I love them. They give a huge portion of pickles, and when I say huge I mean that. They are not stingy in any way, you get two sauces one ranch and one red sauce (not too sure what it is but it is phenomenal). I've also went back and asked for more sauces, and I'm sure they were just feeling nice that day, but they did not charge me which was nice as well. However, I will say that I am a sauce girly and I would've paid for that red sauce regardless. Another note to add is that when you order them to go they give you way more pickles which is amazing, only downside is that they're fresh and hot, so in the to go box they can get a little soggy. Still great in my opinion. All for 5 dollars, they are a MUST. The tenders are tenders. Decent quality, but I can never remember which spice level I get at chicken resturaunts. I always end up getting it too spicy or entirely under seasoned here for some reason which is on me, but still the quality is what you can expect at a chicken shop. Not a fan of the fries, but a HUGE fan of that little piece of white bread that gets all the seasoning on it. Service is okay up front, very nice in the back. And the wait times can vary drastically. They have two tables inside for dining (each seat four) and no outdoor dining. They have delivery & takeout as well. You order at the counter and wait outside for your food. They'll call out your number when your food & drinks are ready. They make everything fresh and it took ~20 min for our food to come out. The service there is super friendly and personable, and checked in on us while we were eating. You can customize your level of spiciness, and I'd say the medium is a solid choice if you want heat, but don't want to sweat. The fries were nicely seasoned and they have their own sauce, ranch, and ketchup for options. Unfortunately they were out of Mac & cheese when we went, but they also have other side options if you don't want fries. They made a yummy Arnold Palmer too. I had high hopes from crimson coward given driving all the way to Howlin Rays can be difficult at times. The place looks great and staff was nice. When I got the food, it looked and smelled fine but when I tasted it. it just seemed to lack a depth of flavor, overcooked, and the seasoning tasted like powder than spice. Some may say my expectations are HIGH and it's not as far as driving out to Howlin Rays, but I just didn't think it was as good sadly. I ordered a plan chicken Sandwich mild, and crimson fries. My husband ordered Joey fries and the home style Sandwich. Our total was 44.00. The batter on the chicken is a cross between golden bird and honey kettle. The seasoning is a combination of salt and spicy seasoning. The dinosauric piece of meat was in between two thinly sliced bread. The French fries were plan with a small amount of seasoning. My husband devoured his food. The Yelp hype is legit! I've been on my quest searching for the best spicy chicken sandwiches throughout LA. Crimson Coward did not disappoint at all! Different vibe, especially for LA as when you walk in all of the employees say hello to you. The menu isn't huge, but lots of goodies that I tried. The kitchen where the workers make the food is right in the front of the restaurant so you can watch them cook your entire food from start to finish. Everything here is made from scratch. Also, it is made every single day so you know the flavor is fresh and on point. I ordered the $12 The Crimson Hot (spicy chicken sandwich). The sandwich was 4.5 out of 5 stars. The chicken cut was a little thin for my liking, but it was a really long piece of chicken that stuck way outside the bun. I enjoyed the cole slaw and pickles, and I could taste the rub. I would say the hot spicy level is only a 4 or 5 out of 10 for spicy. You can easily eat this without water, and I didn't sweat at all nor did my mouth burn. I ordered $4 crimson fries. Pretty standard fries with some good salt seasoning. I'd say a big portion though for $4. The crimson sauce is tasty and good for dipping. Also, because I sat at the bar and made some conversation with the chefs, they gave me 1 burrrrn, baby burn spicy tender. Their hottest heat level is a legit 8 or 9 out of 10. You will sweat eating this. You will need water to finish it. Your mouth will burn a little. For me this is the perfect balance between spicy, and too spicy where it isn't fun to eat (nor do you have to sign a waiver). I will order my chicken sandwich next time at burrrrn, baby burn spicy level next time. They have honey too that can really bring out the flavors of the chicken. The staff saw that I really like spicy so they offered me some hot cheese sauce for my fries. My god!!! The cheese sauce might be the best thing on the menu. It is home made fresh daily. You can absolutely tell a difference. I HIGHLY recommend ordering the hot cheese sauce. I ordered the grilled cheese for $6. It had a triple bread and 2 layers of cheese. It was fine, middle of the road. All in all, I was super impressed! The staff takes care of their customers and are super friendly. Ontop of that they'll recommend better ways to consume your food. Helped us out at the register , gave us some personal recommendations, set proper expectations as far as wait times, and gave overall great customer service. As much as I would like to love this place. It fell short of my expectations of what an exceptional piece of Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich would be. Although there is nothing wrong with the service itself, the main thing I focused on is the chicken. I ordered the regular hot chicken sandwich at hot spice level. The line and wait time was fairly short compared to other hot chicken locations, which is a giant plus in my book since other places can have that extensive 3+ hour wait time (you know which place). The the slaw, bread and breading on the chicken was great, just like any other top good chicken sandwich places. However, what made it fall lower than my expectation was the inside of the chicken. Due to how they brined the chicken and seasoned it, it lacked a fair amount of tenderness which can be almost a stringy feeling. This feeling was what I personally didn't enjoy about the sandwich, which is entirely a textural thing. Flavor wise, it did well in that regard, everything else about it was fine. Would I come back here? Sure, I always believe that I should give an establishment multiple chances and try different items on their menu to see which I would recommend. Personally, for ~$12 plus tax, I would choose another place if I was in the area for a hot Nashville chicken sandwich. tl:dr An alternative to other Hot Chicken places which personally I didn't enjoy the inside texture of it as much.
