    Salmon tacos

These fish tacos were $14.56. The tacos and fries were both pretty good. There are plenty of tables to choose from and the view is awesome. The service is more sparing, but reasonable for the set up. You order and they bring you your food. You then go up to the front to pay. Drinks are self serve. The chef often comes out and talks with his patrons.

The Crimson View is a hidden gem on the top floor of the Union. I'm not sure why the ratings are so low, but the service is fast, food is good, and there's a nice view of the city. The times I go around noon are the busiest and the food is always served hot. My friend has flex dollars and this is his new favorite restaurant on campus!

Their wine and cocktail menu is quite expansive so there are many options for libations. We brought a bottle of our own favorite red wine to enjoy with a $25 corkage fee added. They were offered a special menu this weekend due to the holiday so we tried some special items not normally available. We started with the beets as a shared salad. Fresh red and yellow beets mixed with silver queen cheese and a light vinaigrette dressing. Very fresh and tasty. For our entrees we ordered the scallops with parsnips and the shrimp panzanella. Both of this dishes hit the WOW factor. The portions were sizable and while each dish was very different they shared flavors that just popped. We ran out of room and didn't get a chance to try dessert but they have a few items on the menu that sounds yummy.

Honestly the cheese course was not my favorite. It was good cheese, but I didn't think the greens paired well with it so it really was just cheese, which I found a little disappointing. However the entrees more than made up for it. The pasta especially was absolutely delicious, the braised beef cheek was cooked so perfectly it melted in my mouth. Not to mention I ended up breaking out in hives at the start of the meal (unrelated to the food) and the staff was so kind. They quickly boxed our food and even brought me some Claritin to help tide me over. The food was piping hot when they boxed it and traveled beautifully, which was a bonus for sure. For brunch, my husband had the burger with a fried egg and I had their special of the day: chilaquiles. This might have been the best chilaquiles I've had in the valley. The pork was delicious, the poached egg was actually perfect, and the chips still kept their crunch which is usually my biggest gripe. I didn't try the burger, but my husband was raving about it. The bread was delicious and absolutely worth it. Then we all devoured the cheeses--all three were wonderful (for one, we got name and chased it down and bought more the next day. Then the potatoes were unusual but really tasty. They had a great flavor and the vinaigrette that was used was so special. Absolutely worth having. For the main course, I had the pork chop. However, additional details create a loving connection - it's off-Broadway central location, the copper-paneled ceiling that mimics warm conversations in varied spaces (cocktail, chef's counter, expandable tables for groups, and outdoor), fresh, locally-sourced ingredients with service to match. It's the place where I had my first glass of Turley Zinfandel (education alongside), and the place I will always return for my favorite Wagyu Beef Stroganoff (a comfort from home, but upscale). This one delivered with large, firm, expertly seasoned portobello & forest mushrooms over wide, freshly handmade pappardelle pasta that soaks up rich beef stock (a touch of black pepper) blended with crème fraîche. A generous portion of wagyu is tender and rich. PRO TIP: Mix then let it sit & marinade a minute - flavor pays in dividends. I informed her that we had a reservation under my name, John, but she simply looked at her list, seemed annoyed, and told us to wait anyway. While we were waiting, we watched several parties of two arrive after us with reservations at 8:10, 8:15, and even 8:20, and they were seated before us. After waiting about 20 minutes, I went back to ask how much longer it would be. I was told it would be another 20 minutes. I reminded Carleigh that we had a reservation, and her response was, "Oh, you did?" She then asked for my full name and phone number, looked up the reservation, apologized, and immediately escorted us to a table that appeared to have been ready the entire time. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Reservations are made so guests don't have to wait behind people who arrive later. It felt like our reservation had been completely ignored until I spoke up a second time. Whether this was poor organization or a lack of attention, the level of service at the front desk was unacceptable. We came looking forward to a nice family dinner, but the experience started with unnecessary frustration and left a very poor first impression. I sincerely hope additional training is provided so this doesn't happen to other guests.

Upon entering, the evening seemed promising. The ambiance was moody and intimate, the host was astute and welcoming, and the tile work was beautiful. As the night wore on, however, things slowly stopped adding up to a delicious dining experience. The first thing was the waitress. Apparently the host was also the waitress... and the bartender... and the busser - not that you would know it because of how attentive she was, but shortly after getting our small plates I mentioned to my cousin that I hadn't seen any other person working in the restaurant. While I knew that couldn't be true, I was facing into the restaurant and I only ever saw two other men casually saunter out from the kitchen, look around, and saunter back. No one looked excited to be working there, but the two men who appeared from the kitchen gave me no sense of urgency or purpose, only just that they were extremely bored. The second thing that didn't add up was the Farm to Table narrative. As our Swiss Army Server (thanks for that one, Dimitri) was opening up our wine and recommending dishes, I asked where the farm was located. Apparently, the farm is located in California, and this "farm" owns several other "Farm to Table" restaurants... hmmm... When it came to ordering, we were instructed to order all of our dishes upfront, but that they would come out in courses... While things rolled out like that, the way we were required to order and the way our food came out gave the distinct impression that they weren't dishes being made to order - only delivered to the table in such a way as to give the illusion that they were. Dishes you would expect to come out hot came out room temperature. Dishes you would expect to come out chilled came out room temperature. When each course came out they came out one dish at a time, but one immediately after another... almost like they had been sitting on a table in the kitchen just waiting for anyone to order them. The final, and perhaps most telling thing that didn't add up, was the distinct lack of any smell coming from the kitchen - let alone the restaurant. Only after we left the establishment did we realize how fresh and clean the air smelled. As a home chef, I understand that not every dish calls for garlic and onion, but what about salt? What about pepper? What about any kind of butter or seasoning or even a maillard reaction? In this day and age of salted dark chocolate caramels and umami, attempting any dish completely void of salt is a brave choice, but it's certainly not a heroic one. I mean, we're talking about a restaurant that cooks and serves a filleted trout with its head still attached, eyes buggin' out, bones in, the works! How are we not smelling the fish when it hits the table‽ Have you ever plugged your nose while you tasted something?... Exactly... To finally wrap this review up - the reason why I'm giving this experience 1 star is because the service was attentive, the beet salad was good, and the rest made us laugh uncontrollably at how bad it was. The potato pave was a fun gimmick, and the brussel sprouts were crispy but the pork tenderloin and the fish had no smell, no recordable temperature, and the only flavor I could identify was... dusty dirty mop water? I just don't know... we even tried to load up bites of pork and fish with the polenta, the sautéd and pickled greens, and the "sauces", but nothing helped... if anything, it made things taste worse... truly, I've never been closer to becoming a vegan. People will say we should've just sent back the food, but I've worked in food and bar service. How does requiring that level of service from your waitress for your patrons even begin to make up for a business model whose only job is to make food taste good? After all, I can get that level of service from McDonalds, even though I've never had an experience that required it from them... If you do decide to go to Roux for your next meal, maybe make it breakfast... from my experience, breakfast is a hard meal to mess up.

First off, the roasted beets might honestly be the best thing on the menu (which sounds ridiculous until you try them). They come with greens tossed in a dressing that is absolutely mouth-watering, I could eat a whole bowl of just the greens. Next was the mushroom toast, layered with the creamiest goat cheese spread that perfectly balances the earthy mushrooms. But the real showstopper was the pork belly. I've never had pork belly like this before. They serve it in these perfect little cubes and when you bite into one it literally bursts with flavor. It's paired with green apples, which might sound unexpected, but it's an incredible combination. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and exactly the right amount of present (if you know what I mean). I enjoyed the maitake on rice with cashew cream and it was delicious. The salty mushrooms were mellowed by the chewy rice. The cashew cream gave a nice variation in texture. I didn't leave a morsel behind. The harissa carrots were nice as well. They are cooked soft and have a moderate spice level that is again contrasted by the mild labneh and tahini base. I had to save the rolls with herb better for last. Oh. My. God. These were divine. I'm a sucker for bread of any kind but these are what the Hawaiian dinner rolls wish they could be. They are perfectly pillowy and the herb butter just elevates them. Like many people, we were excited to dine at a restaurant led by a chef who has beaten Bobby Flay. We arrived for our 8:15 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service became increasingly confusing. Our server seemed flustered from the beginning and even commented that she wanted to make sure everything was right for our experience. When ordering drinks, I asked for a root beer and was told they had one. A few minutes later I was informed they actually didn't and was given a Dr Pepper instead. No big deal--I didn't want to make an issue of it. The bigger problems started with the food service. There were three of us. Two ordered the filet, and one ordered the chicken. The first entrées brought to our table weren't ours at all and had to be taken away. When our actual meals arrived, they were still mixed up. I was served the chicken despite ordering the filet. The same thing happened with dessert. We ordered two Baked Alaskas and one Lemon Cake. Again, the desserts were delivered to the wrong people. These weren't major issues individually, but when they happen repeatedly throughout one meal, it takes away from what should have been an outstanding dining experience. Now for the positive... The kitchen absolutely delivered. The filet was cooked perfectly. The chicken was outstanding. Presentation was beautiful. The Baked Alaska was one of the best I've had. The food easily earns five stars. Unfortunately, the front-of-house experience did not. To make matters worse, after I finished the Dr Pepper that I hadn't originally ordered, my glass sat empty for roughly 45 minutes. No refill was offered, and I eventually had to ask for another beverage while dessert was being served. One final observation... The receipt included an optional surcharge for the back-of-house staff. I understand it could be removed upon request, but I don't believe guests should be placed in the position of deciding how restaurant employees are compensated. Pay your team well, price the menu accordingly, and let guests simply enjoy their meal. Urban Hill has one of the most talented kitchens I've experienced in quite some time. If the service can reach the same level as the food, this restaurant would easily deserve five stars.
