The overall food was acceptable. Average plate sat at around $20 with the cheapest food item being soup at $9. This isn't a big deal or abnormal for an airport restaurant. What is, was the care and attitude of the waiter who was taking care of the customers on the floor. As far as I could tell, the lady bartender was doing a fantastic job taking care of her customers. But the waiter was a hot mess. He messed up almost every aspect of the serving experience. It took him over 20 minutes to take my order and got upset when i wanted to place my drink and food order at the same time. It took him another 10 minutes to bring my drink and then take my food order. At this point my family had not yet joined me at the table. They were having issues with TSA. Once my food came out my family had arrived. He rushed by the table tossing down the metal tray that was the plate for the food and the food for another table at the same time. What ended up happening was he gave my food to another table. Then gave me their food. When I tried to tell him he roughly asked me to wait cause he was the only waiter. That he would be back. So I sat with the wrong food for another 10 minutes until he came back. He never introduced himself, so I cant give you his name. He was upset with my family when they pointed out the wrong order had been given to me while he took their order. When he came to bring my family their food. He didn't give my mom a glass for her beer that came in a bottle. A small issue. But again, when he gave them their food. He tried to place another persons food again in front of my mother. And he seemed upset when she pointed it out. He rushed away, to continue handing out the food to other customers. Then returned a few minutes later with packets of disposable cutlery. My parents needed napkins and were in luck to be able to nick some clean napkins from one of the numerous dirty tables that he hadn't bussed. He did walk past the table and asked if we were enjoying the food, around 20 minutes later. But he didn't make eye contact or wait for a response. He never asked if he could get us anything else or made us feel welcome. He was apologizing to all of his tables for the slow service. But it wasn't that busy and everyone was patiently waiting. Truth is, if the guy had been nice. I wouldn't have written a review at all. But his attitude, poor service and the pricing is what motivated me to spend my time to login to write this. I don't know what my family ended up tipping since they refused to let me pay. But what ever it was, I know it was too much for such poor service and poor attitude. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant matched the service received today. The table was bussed but dirty when I sat at it with a halo of food remnants surrounding the seats and table legs. It looks like they had been serving animals, but I am guessing it must be multiple days of filth. read more

Fresh breakfast. Amazing delicious ciabatta and breakfast wraps. Comes out warm. Service is great and it's close to A gates.

Dining options are very limited at this relatively small airport, and I have pretty low expectations for airport food. We ordered an appetizer of chicken wings, which are offered with either barbecue sauce or Buffalo sauce. The barbecue sauce was heavily slathered on the fried wings, and it was way too sweet for my liking. But, the most disappointing part was the value - 7 wings for $16.99. Ouch. The wings were accompanied by traditional celery and blue cheese. Half of the celery seems fresh and crunchy, but half seemed mushy. Blech. read more

While there aren't many food choices at RIC, I would voluntarily eat here if there were. The menu is appealing. I opted for a small dish, truffle french fries. The fries had perfect crunch and amazing flavor. Not greasy at all. For my beverage @Krista recommended some sangria which they modify. Instead I opted for a spicy bloody mary. Restaurant seemed busy and understaffed on the day we went - food was okay but service was really slow. Our server was nice but seemed like she was the only server taking care of all the tables that day. Has an early flight, and decided we wanted something a little more filling than a blueberry muffin. So we walked over to Cross Grain and asked a server if they served breakfast. They really have no menus up or any advertising, so we were surprised they did. Granted, the menu they did give us, was very limited (half a dozen or so choices). We had a flight delay in Richmond and were so happy to find Cross Grains! The new COVID rules are a bit tricky as you have to wait in line and order with Krista at the bar. She is the best! So sweet and treated us like gold even though they were super busy! The food was delicious, thank you Ana in the kitchen!! We also got to know Kalvin the manager while we were there. He also treated us so well even though it was very busy. They are having to follow all of the COVID rules and I felt that they were going out of their way to make sure every guest felt welcome as well as safe. Not bad at all for an airport eatery. I was here at 7 am and had a good breakfast in a very nice space with friendly and efficient service [nice job, Michelle]. Yeah, it was expensive, but I expect that in an airport. A breakfast wrap with egg and coffee ran thirteen and a half bucks, including a dollar from two taxes. After arriving at Richmond Airport, I had time to kill, so I parked my butt at Cross Grain. The airport restaurant was bustling with activity as travelers rushed in to grab a quick bite before boarding their flite. The waitstaff was scrambling to take orders and deliver food to the tables, but the customers were getting angrier and more impatient by the minute. I almost regretted it as the irritated dick at the table next to me was arguing with my server ( I would later learn her name, Katie) over the size of the beer glass. Whatever dude... anyway Katie sat down and calmly talked dickhead through it. After his table companions chimed in to help calm him down, he finally settled down. The restaurant seemed full of people too much in a hurry to be nice, but she handled all of them with aplomb. Anyway, I ordered eggs over easy and sausage along with a glass (ok two....) of prosecco. After she dealt with the impatient folks, my food came out. The over easy eggs were perfectly crisp and still with runny yolks just as I asked, so kudos to the chef. Located in Terminal A, this was a good place to grab and go order 2 burgers enroute to our Gate A6. The order was ready in 15 minutes and I was pleased with the customer service. We were able to bring the meal onboard the aircraft and enjoyed the burger meal and fries while waiting for our aircraft to pushback from the terminal. I would consider cross grain burgers for a decent and quick burger meal in Terminal A in RIC. read more

Congratulations!!!!! The award for most incompetent waitress goes to.... Cross Grain restaurant. I felt sorry for our waitress because she kept coming out with food and confused as to which table it's goes to. She never came back to give us our check so I gave her cash money as I was leaving along with a 30% tip. She later found me as I was boarding the plane and accused me of running out on the check!!!! When I reminded her I put her money in her hand, she just said "oh", and turned around and left leaving me humiliated I'm front of others. And the award for the worst bartender goes to.. Cross Creek restaurant . She was rude and walked away for me as I was telling her about the incident. I will never ever go back to that restaurant again because of these two horrendous experiences and RUDE employees. read more
