    Eggplant Short Rib
    Edward S.

Across from the photo frenzy at the Pink Wall, Crossroads Kitchen offers an amazing selection of plant-based pastas and small plates. The plush wood and leather booths and classic rock riffs create a soothing space. Eggplant Short Rib: The rectangular slab of eggplant is on the edge of firm and soft. The whipped potatoes are nice and creamy. The Bordelaise sauce is rich and savory from the red wine, shallots, herbs, and stock. Shimeji and cremini mushrooms add jolts of earthy flavor to the wonderful sauce. Parking: Go with the metered street parking. Most of the sidewalks in the neighborhood do not allow parking after 8 pm.

It's not that Jamie W and I are religious vegans. It's just that at a certain point in a WeHo vacation, we start to feel guilty about our inevitable gluttony and proved that fear true by gorging at calorific spots like NORMS and Max & Helen's in the days prior. I saw mention of this vegan Mediterranean restaurant after I failed to secure a reservation at Pura Vita, a nearby vegan Italian spot we liked on a previous vacation (review: https://yelp.to/FHUmsvRN-m). It was a further walk from our hotel, but we had no trouble securing a table for two here. The menu looked mostly Italian, so we were quite pleased with the choices. Jamie ordered the $25 Spaghetti Carbonara, a fresh tasting, gluten-free rendition with bits of vegan gianciale, green peas and an impressive whole "egg" yolk on top (Photo 8). I must've been in a "meatier" mood and went with the $26 Tagliatelle Bolognese, another gluten-free delight. The sauce had a savory umami flavor anchored by chopped mushrooms, carrot, and onion (Photo 9). The pasta had a surprising al dente texture. We shared the salty-savory $14 Grilled Artichokes with olives, capers, roasted peppers, lemon, and mint (Photo 10). Although portions were just right, we still found room for the generous $12 Brownie Sundae with vanilla ice cream, fudge sauce, coconut whip, and brandied cherries (Photo 7). What a find. I've been wanting to try Crossroads Kitchen for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally made it. While the ambiance and décor evoke the warmth of an old-school steakhouse or classic Italian restaurant, the food is anything but traditional. It offers a fresh, modern take on vegan Italian cuisine. Drinks & Appetizers We started with two cocktails: the Strawberry Girl (alcoholic) and the Let It Be (non-alcoholic). Both were excellent. For appetizers, we ordered the Moroccan Cigars, served with a light, tangy yogurt-style dipping sauce with just the right amount of heat. The cigars themselves were delicate, filled with plant-based meat, and lightly fried. Think of an elevated, artisanal taquito. A perfect lead-in to the main course. Entrées We ordered two dishes: the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka with the chicken Parmesan add-on, and the Spicy Meatball Pizza. Pro tip: absolutely add the chicken Parmesan to the rigatoni. The vodka sauce was bold and spicy without overpowering the dish, and the chicken Parm was beautifully cooked with excellent texture, a natural and well-balanced pairing. The pizza was exceptional. True to its name, there was a meatball in nearly every bite. It's topped with ricotta and dusted with parmesan, and we added red chili flakes for an extra kick. The crust is very thin and artisanal, and every component, the marinara, meatballs, sausage, ricotta, and parmesan, worked in perfect harmony. The dough alone is worth finishing every last piece. Dessert We ended with the Brownie Sundae, which was the one minor letdown of the evening. The ice cream appeared to have been pre-scooped, as it was quite firm with visible ice crystals, not ideal. The brownie itself, however, was absolutely delicious, though the portion felt a bit small relative to the dish as a whole. Overall, the sundae was just okay. I'd likely skip it next time and explore other dessert options. Service & Atmosphere The service was fantastic, and the overall ambiance was warm and inviting. The pacing of the meal was particularly impressive. Drinks, appetizers, entrées, and dessert all arrived at just the right tempo. Nothing felt rushed, and nothing lingered too long. Parking There is no dedicated parking for the restaurant. Crossroads is located on Melrose Avenue, a busy shopping district with heavy foot traffic and limited street parking. That said, we visited on a Sunday afternoon and found street parking without much trouble. If spots near the restaurant are taken, driving a few blocks into the surrounding neighborhood usually turns up more options, just be prepared for a short walk. Plan your arrival time accordingly to avoid any parking stress. Overall, Crossroads Kitchen delivered on every front. Creative food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend, with the rigatoni and pizza as must-orders.

First time at this eatery. Crossroads Kitchen is a popular, upscale vegan restaurant in Los Angeles known for its plant-based Italian-American cuisine, offering dishes like pasta, pizza, and "chicken" and waffles that appeal to both vegans and non-vegans. It features a full bar, patio dining, and is praised for its creative, flavorful food, though some reviews mention inconsistent We were seated at a long table since there were so many of us. The staff was very accommodating. First time eating vegan food. Wasn't quite for me, but it was a wonderful dinning experience.

Came to enjoy a Mother's Day dinner after seeing a show at Pantages. My husband and I were both thrilled with the warm cozy feel of the restaurant. Staff were so friendly and kind. And the food was delicious!! Shared the zucchini blossoms and they were delicious. My husband enjoyed the piccata and we shared the yummy truffle potatoes. I've been wanting to try vegan scallops made with trumpet mushrooms and these did not let me down - the linguine and scallops were amazingly delicious - would definitely have again! The strawberry cheesecake was a great way to finish the meal - banana pudding was ok. Overall, would highly recommend and hope to return for more!

I'd heard about this spot for years and was excited to finally check it out last night. Overall I really enjoyed my food -- the eggplant short rib was a definite standout that was super unique and flavorful. I also really liked the cauliflower torte and the apple martini. The pasta was tasty, a bit too spicy for both my friend and me. My least favorite part of the meal was the dessert -- we got the chocolate cake, which was sadly a bit on the drier side (though we did appreciate the birthday candles since we were both celebrating our birthdays!). Service was a bit hit or miss. My friend asked for lemon for her water, which was brought promptly. 5 minutes later, the busboy came back to tell us that would be a $2 charge, after it was already in my friend's water glass. I have never heard of a restaurant charging for lemon slices in your water and we were pretty taken aback by that to be honest. The waitress said she'd remove that charge from the bill since we weren't told about it upfront, but really? That shouldn't be a charge at all. Our waitress was very nice, but fairly absent after we received our dishes. She never came to check on us, refill water, see if we needed more drinks, etc. We actually had to flag another waitress down to find ours when it was time for us to get the check (after sitting with cleaned off plates on the table for at least 25 minutes). The space is pretty from what I could tell. We were seated in a side section that the hostess said is usually not open, so it did feel like a bit of an afterthought. But I could tell that the main space is nice. If I could give 2.5 stars, I would -- but that's not an option, so it's a 2 for me. I'm glad I finally came here, but don't think I would need to return.

    Calamari fritti
    Danny C.

Elevated fine-dining with an all-vegan menu. Great place for a date or special occasion. If you've been to Pura Vita, you can expect a similar experience. CALAMARI FRITTI - As someone who typically enjoys deep-fried, battered food, the fried calamari wasn't very impressive. It was oily and borderline soggy. It wasn't bad by any means, but it just didn't embody the long-standing reputation of quality food that Crossroads has always carried in the LA vegan circle. TRUFFLE MUSHROOM BIANCA - Again, it just didn't have the wow factor. It was decent, but just not great. In summary, fine-dining ambiance and spectacular service accompanied by mediocre food.

Spicy Rigatoni Vodka with Chicken Milanese
    Sharona M.

This is really a top notch vegan spot! They know how to make amazing food, get it out to the customer fast and have great service. The price tag is a bit on the pricey side but feels worth it! The rigatoni was a standout for the evening! It was perfectly seasoned and spicy with the chicken still having that deliciously addictive crunch. The mushroom arancini were also delicious! Our waitress was very nice and brought out everything super fast. The restaurant is really beautiful with a great bar and nice lighting. The tortellini was probable my least favorite of the night as it was a Bit too Al dente and the broth was not very warm. It did come out with some flare as they light the rosemary on fire before pouring the soup over the pasta. The banana pudding was ok, however I think they could spruce up their dessert menu as I don't think I've ever had one that was to die for.

    Calamari
    Holly S.

Was excited to try the LA location, but service greatly reduced my rating. Food was average, and lacked impressiveness. Celery root tartare semi bland. No apple or dill flavor. Chips were fresh and okay. Calamari was thick cut. Hearty breading. But a great plant based alt to calamari. Do give it a try! Beet salad was my favorite. Very small. No blue cheese appeared in this dish. The golden beets with the sweet pears were yummy. Overall, nice mix of flavors and textures, would have been better with the blue cheese tho. Balsamic pearls are a fun spin. CELERY ROOT & CHESTNUT TORTELLINI has a delectable table-side flamed rosemary in the spout of a kettle before the vegetable broth was poured over the tortellini. Tbh, there was no flavor in the pasta itself. This dish is more like a soup. It's just the flavorless pasta in a small amount of veggie broth. Grilled lions mane steak was a good "heavier" entree. I opted for the sauce on the side and glad I did... was more of a broth style sauce which I would not have liked. The truffle potato has good presentation, but lacked much, if any, truffle flavor. Courses were not timed. Table was loaded with dishes and to make it worse, after dinner, and for a minimum of one hour, none of the dishes were cleared from the table and no server checked in. Inside is elegantly appointed. Noise level is loud.

This has been a go-to special occasion for years and it never, ever disappoints! Highlights: Calamari is to die for. Infinitely better than the original. Eggplant short rib has a beautiful 'meaty' texture and hearty flavor that's perfect for a winter menu. Their martinis! Always made perfectly to specifications. Ambience is nice enough that I don't feel out of place being dressy for special occasions, but it's never stuffy. Service is always prompt and friendly.

Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions
    Dianne M.

Lovely ambiance! Warm, dark interior for dinner with soft banquettes. We had the Chick'n Pizza, Tempeh Piccata, and Italian sausage. We were all happy with our choices. The Italian sausage was pretty hot so I ordered the bread service with it. I was pleasantly surprised by the sourdough bread which had been grilled - very good. We also split the Kale Caesar. Our server was attentive and professional.

Do they have Sunday brunch like their Las Vegas location?

They have a Sunday brunch but it's not buffet style as it is in Las Vegas.

Where is the closest parking structure?

They have valet parking available or ample street parking!

    Is this place kid-friendly?

You don't need to be dressy. I've been in athleisure plenty of times. People dress in what's comfortable for them.

    Are there any allium-free options?

Are all of the "cheeses" and dairy options here made from nuts?

Yes! All their cheeses are non-dairy and delish!!!! I highly recommend their zucchini blossoms but their Charcuterie appetizer with cheese is also delicious.

Does anyone know whose chicken they use for the chicken and waffles? My daughter loves it.

    It's house made

How do I know what's vegan?

The whole restaurant menu is vegan.

Do they have a Happy Hour? In the past, reviewers mention HH and a late night HH.

no happy hour as far as i know

Do they still have valet parking? Am trying to determine how much time I should allow for parking.

    Yes

    Are dogs allowed?

I just called and they are allowed only for outdoor seating :)

How is the outdoor seating? Is it in the parking lot or how is it set up? Is there inside seating?

The outdoor seating is set up on the side walk. One thing I raved about the crossroads is their romantic ambience so you are definitely NOT getting that anymore. But the food is still just as great :)

Are there heaters for outdoor dining?

    Yes

Is it all vegan or is the fried chicken and meatballs real meat?

The entire restaurant is Vegan. I have taken meat eaters There and they say the chicken and waffles are the best they have had 🙏🏽 the meatballs are vegan and tasty also.

    What time does brunch end?

    2 pm

What is the base of their Alfredo sauce? (Nut purée/milk?)

    Almond cream

    Do they have bottomless mimosas?

They do have mimosas however, they are not bottomless.

Do they have happy hour on weekends too at night?

I don't think they have happy hour. I could be wrong though. The late night bar menu is every night starting at 10pm.

I see the attire is "dressy," and I saw one review that says to dress up if you're going in the evening. I'm looking to go to a brunch on Sunday, what would be the dress "code" or suggestion? Thanks.

No, casual is fine. But TBH, their brunch is not the best in my opinion. The portions are tiny and we left still feeling hungry.

Do you have gluten free options?

    Yes they do!

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

The food has been enjoyable on my previous visits, which is why this last experience stood out. The food I ordered tasted great, and the beer and cocktails were excellent. Unfortunately, my friend's burger was served cold and wasn't cooked to his liking despite being specific about what condiments he could and could not consume. What disappointed me most was that our table felt rushed. From the time we sat down until the check was brought out, exactly one hour had passed. We were still enjoying ourselves and wanted to order another couple rounds of drinks, but the check arrived so quickly that it felt like we were being encouraged to wrap things up rather than continue our evening. I would've thought that was okay if the restaurant was busy, but it truly wasn't. Aside from our booth being in use, there were some people at the bar, another 2 booths occupied towards the kitchen side, and one table behind us at the corner in use, so it wasn't about them being busy. I'm hoping this was just a one-time experience because I've genuinely enjoyed my previous visits and would like to come back. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and I hope future visits feel a little more relaxed and allow guests to enjoy their time without feeling rushed to pay and leave.

Sampa is located in the Arts District near the intersection of S Hewitt St and E 5th right next to Urth Cafe. There's a parking lot directly across the street from the restaurant but you can also park around the corner by Arts District Park for $5. If it's your first time visiting Sampa, you have to be open minded towards the concept itself. Yes, the dishes here are smaller in portion and costs more than your typical fast casual spot. All the servers here are attentive and offer to help with what to order if you're unsure. For dinner, the Crispy Pasta is their take on crispy pata but served with spinach tagliatelle. The crab fat fried rice is a no brainer and depending on the night you come, I highly recommend the Sinigang xiaolongbao special. You don't have to be Filipino to appreciate what Sampa is doing for the culture, just come by and see for yourself.

It's where they grill certain items, lobster, ribeye, skirt steak, the intestinal part of a chicken (?). So, not tacos but grilled meats so we stayed. twist. First of all, it's a lovely space. In a not very obvious area of DTLA, next to Urth Cafe but no other restaurants. We didn't have reservations so we had the option of sitting at the bar or following the waitress to a back room area instead of the front room that is visible to everyone. My son is a minor, so to the back we went! Seriously, the closer we got to the back room the more I felt I had been cast in "The Chef." Scary! Lol! The back room is black. Blackout black! Black tablecloths, walls, chairs, dark, low light. Very luxurious and open space. Which - because it wasn't full at the time - felt a bit like being in the film, The Menu." A bit too upscale and empty to feel comfortable. More guests arrived later, a large table, so that was more comforting. The food: Recommended *Kara Kara Tamales: braised oxtail with a peanut butter sauce. Wow! The taste was wonderful! Hard to explain but Filipino/African food meets Latin food. It was on the "shared plate" menu, which to me means it will be a lot. But the 2 tamales were not very big. Still, they were so rich that the 2 really were sufficient to share. Quite filling. I couldn't get enough of the sauce! *Crab fried rice: Very tasty and generous portion. Plenty share! Not recommended: The street eats menu. Now, this is what pulled us in - the sights and smells of the food being grilled outside the restaurant. Most of which was on this meme. Like a tasting menu. But for price to portion ratio, it simply isn't worth it. I ordered the skirt steak. 4 oz, cut in half. Cooked down to what looked like .5 oz! Each on a toothpick sitting in a paper plate (or maybe it was cupcake holder?) IDK. I just know it wasn't a good presentation and the taste wasn't memorable. Regular. More grill smell than taste. Not at all worth $8. Service: Really nice. And mostly good. Though they did fail short by (1) Using only small appetizer size plates and (2) Not bringing a fresh plate to eat the crab fried rice on after the peanut butter sauce laced tamale appetizer was eaten. The server brought the fried rice, but didn't bother to give us fresh plates (nor silverware). My son was mortified when I grabbed a plate from one of the empty tables! (Teenager energy on full effect). But after initial attentive service, the variety of different servers whizzing by didn't stop to ask if we needed anything. And I sat waiting at least 8 minutes staring at the rice. I assured my young man that the servers would be fine with me getting another plate to save them from having to. And once I did, he suddenly started eating from my plate of my peanut butter free fried rice. And of course, when a server did attend to us and I let her know, she was glad I took matters into my own hands instead of not eating for 15 minutes. Thoughts: Go for dinner, and order from the full dinner menu, skip the skimpy street eats menu. With reservations you can sit in the main restaurant area that has some view to the outdoors. Without it - back to the black room you go! Know that it will be expensive. And it will be original. Not sure I'll go back. It's very "special occasion" upscale dining. But If I do it'll be with reservations. The meal was memorable and worth experiencing.

It's conveniently located to the LA Convention Center, Crytpo.com arena, and LA Live which makes it a must visit before or after an event! I am obsessed with their happy hour, which offers healthy items at discounted prices with generous portions! I have been here so many times throughout the years but most recently found myself here during a busy World Cup match! Regardless, the service and quality of food was not sacrificed! I was greeted as soon as I got there and the bartenders were overwhelmed but still friendly and helpful. I was so tempted to get a margarita, since theirs are amazing, but decided to keep it dry and just get their vegan nachos. I was able to score a table outside on their lovely patio, which felt secluded enough from the main street. My food was brought out quicker than I thought and I was delighted, as I was famished! The vegan nachos here are fantastic and the happy price is only $10, which is a steal for what you get! They are costed in the most magical concoction of a bean puree, cashew cheese sauce, and guacamole which all have the most creamy, luscious and savory flavors. It's so hearty and well seasoned and not only filling, but you feel great after. Parking is pretty easy, as there are usually ample meters available nearby. I cannot wait to return again soon the next time I'm in Downtown LA! I am hoping to try more of their vegan options and next time I will for sure get a drink to go along with their delicious food!

Overall, I'd come back for the food, but I'd probably steer clear from cocktails and order a real drink. To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. I have been here a few times for dinner but this was first time for brunch. I made a reservation, was asked to confirmed reservation 3x, noted it was celebrating a birthday and gave no preference on seating. I arrived on time, but one of my group was parking. There were a few people milling around and I was greeted with "checking in?" No hello, no welcome, no mention of celebrating and told to let them know when entire party arrived. (This is becoming more common to be seated along with a $25 per person fee if I canceled less than 24hrs. I know restaurants are struggling but come on!) I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela. Go for the food but don't think by making a reservation you get any special acknowledgement.
