Came here on my lunch break! I was looking for a spot that had tasty salads and based off of the pictures I saw I thought I would give it a try. I ordered the BBQ chicken salad and it was delicious. My only concern is the amount of lettuce they gave compared to the other stuff such as corn, beans and chicken! I felt as if it wasn't enough. Also I recommend you buy the smaller size salad instead of the larger one! I read in many reviews that the amount of chicken and other toppings are the same on both it's just the lettuce they put extra of which honestly to me is a waste! Iceberg Lettuce out of all the greens is probably the less nutritious and doesn't do much for your body! It's made up Of 95 percent water and contains only small amounts of fiber and minerals. Although it's low in calories and isn't bad for you it isn't really benefiting you either! The darker the lettuce the more nutritious. Point being, save your money. I was really excited to try this place. First off, the parking conditions are horrendous. The small square is jammed packed with lunch goers...even at 1pm! Turn off for me. So I ordered the Cobb salad because it sounded really good. It cost about 9 dollars and something cents for the large. I got the salad in about 5 minutes and took it back to work. I open the salad and this is basically what I got for 9 something dollars: A big container of romaine lettuce mixed with turkey, croutons and dressing. Prices are pretty average for the area being that it caters to all the businesses for lunch (& is conveniently located across the street from my new job). Our Nat'l Sales Manager was conducting a 'Lunch & Learn' seminar in Irvine and I needed to find lunch for the group - from 1200 miles away. I'm so glad I found Croutons. I ordered the Assorted Panini Tray, the Classic Croutons Salad, and for dessert, Crouton Bites, from their catering menu. The only negative thing I can say is the website says they deliver and they don't. Since I was ordering a few days in advance, I wrote up my order and faxed it so they could process it at their convenience. When I didn't hear back, I called to follow-up and found out they don't have fax capabilities - although the # is listed on the website. But, I spoke with Cory and he was great. Tim said they had the order ready and bagged nicely so he could carry it and provided everything needed to serve. I've been here a couple of times now for lunch. Beware if you come between 11:30am and 1pm; there will be no parking and you will be sad. SERVICE They are pretty quick with the sandwich making! When there's no line you will get your food within 5 minutes. During peak hours, the wait is about 15 minutes. The staff is very friendly, though! You can sit outside and they will come find you to deliver your food, even if you got it to-go. FOOD Buffalo Chicken Flatini - There is pretty much nothing but chunks of chicken, onion, and cheese in this one. The flat bread makes up most of the food so it feels heavy. They put way too much buffalo sauce so it drips everywhere, but the flavor isn't bad. I wouldn't get this again, though. Southwest Panini - The Paninis are not pressed very well. They use ciabatta bread for their paninis and it's generally very dry. Since this one did not have tons of sauce dripping all over the place, the sandwich was pretty dry in general. I loved that they included tons of avocado, though! I wouldn't get this again just because it's so dry. Margherita Chicken Panini - I don't remember too much of this one since it's been a while, but I remember it being very balanced. Not too dry or saucy, just the right amount of cheese and chicken. The full sized sandwiches are huge so one half is enough for one meal. Granny Smith Chicken Salad - I like this one but it's a very simple salad with tossed greens and some bits of saucy grilled chicken. I don't think the diced apple pieces go very well with the salad, and I wish they added more walnuts because I think I only found 1 walnut in my whole salad. Soups - Both the Chicken and Wild Rice and Tomato Basil soups are very yummy! I am not a tomato soup person but I decided to try this one and was not disappointed. It tastes creamy but isn't heavy, and doesn't have that marinara sauce feel to it. The Chicken and Wild Rice is my favorite! It contains lots of rice and chicken and is just super yummy. The soups all come with croutons too which is nice since their croutons are light and crunchy but they only give you 3-4 pieces per soup... And the croutons are normal sized... The price point is kind of steep for what you get. A typical sandwich will come out to be about $8 (which isn't too bad) but a 2 item combo can come out to be over $10 and you only get half of a sandwich! OVERALL This is a good place to come for a quick lunch, especially if you work in the area, but I wouldn't come here all the time considering how expensive the sandwiches and soups are. read more

By chance, I was around the area in Irvine and had to make a visit to this location. Went during lunch hours on Friday so needless to say, lots of professionals there dining, so it was very busy. I went with my favorites of Mandarin Chicken Salad + BBQ Chicken combo and it ended up being around $10 or so. Mandarin Chicken Salad is even better than I remembered! I love the almond crunches and fried wonton strips to give it that crunchy texture. Salad's not overly drenched with dressing, and a good amount of chicken. The BBQ Chicken flatbread is bigger than what the SD locations served. I remember griping about the portion all the time there but here, it's actually a good amount of shredded chicken in each bite. Might ask for BBQ sauce on the side since they do drench in in sauce. Seating is limited inside so I just grabbed a table outside on a beautiful day. I've been back to Croutons a few times since my original review and I've been impressed every time. My favorite salad is Frank's Spinach--I get a regular... and I order it without onions. But get this, the last time I went I forgot to say, "No onions, please." I realized my mistake a couple of minutes later and I went back to the counter to see if I could relay that to the kitchen staff. Right as I was telling my sad story of forgetfulness, my salad came out... onions and all. I told them, "Hey, don't worry about it. It was my fault. I'll just pick 'em off." I've been here a few times, and its still hand downs best salad/ sandwich place I've been too. Its in a busy little plaza with a few other restaurants including Starbucks, flame brioler, and a 7-eleven. I go during lunch hours from 1130am-1pm M-F, parking lots is busy so I suggest head toward the back, people just don't care for walking anymore and you'll always find parking there. Place is almost never busy... i have never seen a line out the door. Even when they are, the staff is amazing and well organized to get everyone out the door within a 5-10min window. They also take in phone orders, order has always been ready and double checked before I walk out the door. Customer services, from what I have experienced and seen by observing is nothing less than exceptional, from my first visit with explaining the combo deal to suggesting a add ins, that will make my food pop. I have not been disappointed. Prices, are somewhat expensive for a salad only, $9.95 I usually order the combo, comes with a salad and half sandwich or soup (no drink included) for same price $9.95 I haven't tried their soups yet, but a fellow co worker has told me its good as well. I was standing in the marked lane for the line to the register waiting to get the server's attention so I could offer him my food order when another person comes in the door and immediately yells out that she would like a dozen brownies. The server working behind the counter responds to this person by offering to start packing up the requested food items totally ignoring that anyone else was waiting in line. Only after the server had accommodated the narcissist demanding immediate attention and had left was I then able to complete my food order and purchase. With food in hand, I shared my observation with the server that it seemed like a person coming in the restaurant could easily circumvent the line just by yelling out his or her order. The server laughed then moved onto the next customer waiting in line without any other response.
