The ambiance is busy, nice and cozy. They have a good variety of breakfast/brunch dishes, all of them sound delicious. We ordered chilaquiles with over medium eggs and huevo enfrijoladas, which was a type of masa cake that came with one egg. I'm giving this place 3 stars because, even though the service and place are great, I think it's OVERPRICED. The masa cake came with one egg and it was $20! Really? My dish, chilaquiles' price was ok but it lacked of salsa or it couldn't be found or tasted in them. We ordered salsa and we were charged for it. Really? We are foodies. We love to go around all Houston area looking for great breakfast/brunch places and we have never been charged for salsa . We finished our tasty dishes and we wanted to try their pan dulce. So I decided to bring my husband and 3 year old to try it out , specially because my husband was on a hunt for some good chilaquiles. Our waitress comes to my husband and tells him "the kid needs to sit down" and she walked away . When he told me what she said I knew we had to leave . My kid was not disturbing anyone but I guess that didn't look good for their business. We know when our child is being triggered and making a scene so we leave the space not to make people feel uncomfortable (but this was not the situation) after this it just left me heart broken . Once we got in our truck I broke down , we were just trying to be a normal family and go enjoy some breakfast and support a small business. While the restaurant was quaintly and had a flower garden atmosphere, but it did not live up to the hype it had. Firstly, I noticed that there was a fly problem in the restaurant. This made me feel uneasy and uncomfortable during my meal. Secondly, the sweet bread was decent, but it did not meet my expectations given the Michelin star prices. I felt that the prices were too high for the quality of the food. Moreover, the server was not that excited to serve us. This made me feel unwelcome and less inclined to enjoy my meal. Additionally, the wait was long, which added to the overall disappointment. I felt that the wait was not worth it, given the quality of the food and service. Overall, I was disappointed with my experience at La Cucharita. While the restaurant had a charming atmosphere, it did not deliver on the food and service. I would not recommend this restaurant to others. For four of us with tip it was north of 140 bucks. We were visiting Houston and were disappointed in the experience and knowing that Dallas (who has a higher cost of living) has way better options with prices that are more reflective of reality. read more

Two words to sum up my experience at Cucharita: overpriced & mediocre. The pastries tasted like any other pastry at any other panaderia, but very overpriced. If you notice, their menu doesn't have any set prices for their pastries. They were literally making up the prices in the moment. The cashier would ask the owner how much and she would hold up her fingers to tell the cashier what to charge. For three pastries it was 23.00. For a frothy espresso it was 10.00. Not even a latte and not even a big coffee. Its not like I added specialized milk or flavors. It was 10.00 for a coffee. The masa for the tamales was a little bit dry but still tasty. They didn't put much protein in the tamales, so you were drowning in masa. The environment was chaotic. The pastries were out of the case which is fine and expected. But all of these people were surrounding it and this little girl kept touching and poking the pastries. That isn't their fault but just something to keep in mind. The space is small, everyone was running into each other, no one knew where the line started and ended, and you don't know who you're supposed to talk to to be seated. I feel like cucharita was over hyped and underwhelming. I had high expectations because I love cuchara, but this place just isn't it. read more

This place didn't even come up on Yelp, but we drove by it on our way to our regular breakfast place that we weren't feeling enthusiastic about and decided to stop in. Cucharita has a distinctively vintage feel and the service was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We received our coffees first and the coffee flavor might be the best I've experienced in Houston in years. The coffee is flown in from Mexico City and was fresh without an ounce of bitterness, that somehow managed to be both bold and light at the same time. Initially I thought the entrees looked overpriced, but when I tasted mine I knew what I was paying for. The ingredients were fresh, the combinations distinct, the flavors uniquely paired and complex. We will be back. Cucharita has only been open a couple of months but I don't doubt in the near future it will become a place too crowded to be seated quickly read more
