My fiance told me about a new restaurant in The Plant. After doing a bit of research, I found that he was referring to Culichi Town. We decided to check it out for dinner on a Sunday night around 7pm. My first impression of the place was, "Wow, the place was poppin'," but I soon realized I basically was signing up for having dinner at a club. On top of there being a DJ, there was a mariachi band performing for someone's birthday. In general, the music was so loud that I could hardly hear my partner, who was sitting next to me in the booth. I also had to raise my voice / borderline scream across the table for our server to hear me. It wasn't the experience I wanted to have on a Sunday night before work on Monday. Now If I was drunk on a Friday or Saturday night, then this may be a different story and I would've been into it. Admittedly, I wasn't mentally prepared for it. Speaking of not being mentally prepared, I was completely weirded out by a person in costume that looked like a scary nun straight out of a horror film. Was this part of the spectacle or was this a customer? Either way, it was a WTF moment. My fiance and I looked around at the other guests to see their reaction, but no one batted an eye. Service was great. Our food came out super fast, and our server was very friendly and attentive. I could tell she was trying her best to hear us through the loud music. The Taco Prime stood out to us, but we asked for other recommendations from our server. She suggested we try the Guamuchilito and the Hot Cheeto ceviche. The taco was excellent. I would come back for that. The meat was tender and flavorful. The Guamuchilito was the deep fried sushi roll with imitation crab, sliced avocados, and a chili sauce. It was a pretty basic roll, but I would go as far as saying that it tasted better than deep fried rolls I've had at Japanese restaurants. I would pass on the Hot Cheeto ceviche. Honestly, I found the Hot Cheetos as gimmicky. They did nothing for the dish. The ceviche was average as well. Lastly but not least, I tried the Selena cocktail and enjoyed it. Final Thoughts: 0.50/5 Throughout the time I spent writing this review, I have had quite the internal debate as to whether I believe my experience was a 0 or 1 star rating, so that is my compromise. As the foodie I am, I am aware and understand that I can be quite the harsh food critic. There are specific standards that I have and hold for all places that I go to. Unfortunately, this place seems to be one of the few that fell short of all expectations from beginning to end. We love sushi and fusion places, but the execution just didn't work for us here. Food: 1. Sushi Rolls ---- - Bonito Roll: 1.2/5 - Luillo Roll: 1.0/5 - Tres Quesos Roll: 0.9/5 One ingredient to describe all 3 rolls is cream cheese. I believe I only ate 4 pieces (one of each +1 and the chips) because I was quite tired of the flavor after the first two pieces. Overall, the three rolls tasted the same because of the amount of cream cheese and taste of it. Very overwhelming taste. Their menu states "Philadelphia", which I'm assuming means they used the Philadelphia Cream Cheese. While other ingredients differ and flavoring is expected to be different, each one honestly tasted the same. Their sauces do a decent job in enhancing the roll. Sauce on the Lupillo Roll was good - Very thick and added a nice umami flavor. The rice was quite bland and I'm actually unaware of how that happened. Rice usually has it's own aroma to it and that's especially true for sushi rice. While we're on the topic of rice, there was such a thick border of rice provided for each roll that I deconstructed my sushi roll and only ate about a quarter of the rice provided with the filling. Each dish came with some pickled carrots and I was hoping that this would lighten the dish a bit, but it couldn't save my mouthful of cream cheese. The dip provided is an interesting choice because these dips were the salsa dips provided for the chips. I can't pinpoint the flavoring of it as I am fairly unfamiliar with these flavors, but the consistency was very creamy. This seems to be a mismatch for the sushi rolls we ordered because of how rich the cream cheese was already. 2. Chips and dips: 3.1/5 Chips and salsa/dips are provided to us. This is probably the only item that I felt was satisfactory to some extent. With that said, this item seems to be difficult to ruin given what it is. The dips seemed appropriate. Quite spicy though, so just a caution if you have a lower tolerance. Seasoning was fine and chips had a nice crunch. Side notes: Reminder to bring a translator here because the menu is 90% in Spanish. The remainder 10% are the names of the food items and that seems quite irrelevant if you don't know what ingredients are being used in them. --------- Quality: Fair The ingredients used, while was not quite palatable for me, appeared of optimal quality. Their avocado was nicely ripen and had a beautiful green color. The shrimp was nicely fried and plump. Garnishes seemed fresh and added a nice pop of color to the plate. Pricing: Expensive Average price paid between the three of us was $26. For a plate of sushi, I would recommend alternatives. With respect to the experience, quality, and items being served, this was a very expensive meal for us. Service: Suboptimal to fair Our waiter struggled to take our order because of the language barrier. The club music did not help either because he couldn't hear us, let alone try to understand us. Our waiter checked on us once, which was fine. A second concern was trying to get our check. The area is quite spacious and there were only a few waiters, so when they scattered, they were nowhere to be seen. Ambiance: Suboptimal Personal experience and if a lively environment is your preference for a dinner out, then I am happy for you. For me, I believe there is a fine line between sit-down restaurant vibes and club vibes. There are very few times where my watch has to provide me with a "loud environment" warning and never would I expect that to be during a dinner date out with my friends. Before we even saw they had a DJ and music livening up the whole room, we heard it from outside. Perhaps that was a sign to retreat and we ignored it. Just a little caution for yourself and especially little ones because the decibel levels range from 90 to 100+ here - Not ideal. We sat at one of the booth tables and each of us took a side - This made it almost impossible for us to hear each other, so we resorted to just not talking, shouting across the table, and using our group chat to communicate. We probably could have also just huddled up onto one side too, but I digress. Location/Parking: Fair to Optimal The location is quite ideal because it is right on the side of Curtner Avenue. There's a bit of traffic at The Plant, so very ideal spot for a restaurant. Parking typically isn't a concern because of how spacious it is. The area does become crowded during weekends and rush hour times, but parking still shouldn't be the biggest concern here. read more

Absolutely delicious - a total surprise! Wow! I can't believe this place only has 3 stars. We just had the best lunch here and everything exceeded our expectations. I had the tuna, mango, and cucumber tostada--so fresh and flavorful, I'm still thinking about it. My husband ordered the fish and steak tacos and said both were excellent. Even our kids loved their cheeseburger kids meals--think high-quality Happy Meal with a fun Mexican twist and crispy fries. Service was friendly, the portions were generous, and the vibe was fun. With how busy it was, we chose to seat at the bar which is kinda where I prefer to be anyways. Walking into this place that feels like it was meant to be a storage room and not a bar. I went here for my nephews 18th birthday dinner. It is a good place if you want to listen to music and not a place to have conversation because the music is LOUD. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you are prepared for it. My four year old daughter jumped out of her seat when the band first started playing because she was expecting such a loud noise and unfortunately we didn't have her ear coverings to protect from the sound. It took a little bit to get used to and then it was fine. Also, you are yelling at the waiters for your food so not sure of they can hear you. For example, my husband ordered his ceviche but without tomatoes (he detests tomatoes!) and they brought him with tomatoes. Was this the fault of the chef or not being able to hear the order? You decide. Additionally, their menus are in spanish and the waiter's primarily speak Spanish. So just FYI. In case you do not speak Spanish, plan your order ahead of time since it might be easier to write it down than ask questions, since it will be hard to yell above the music. The food was mixed. My daughter loves beans and chips and the kids meal comes in a cute box like a happy meal. She got chicken nuggets and fries. She normally likes orange juice but their orange juice is a mix with Tangerine so she thought it was too sweet. There was this shrimp plate that was delicious but spicy. I normally cannot do spice but this was delicious even if my mouth burned. I got the tentacion roll. I was excited because I love love LOVE cream cheese in my rolls and i was a little disappointed that it didnt taste like anything. I probably would try another one if I ever go back. I have mixed reviews about this place. We came here last night to celebrate my son's graduation. The interior is nice and they play upbeat music, so the vibe is inviting. Also, as mentioned, we did not have to wait to be seated and served. Parking at the Plant is not too hard to find. It was nice that they were open until 11pm; other places were closed by 10 pm. Alejandro, our server, was courteous and checked on us. Cons: Because of the loud music and miscommunication, I inadvertently ordered an extra entrée. When I had tried to say "instead of this, I want this...," I still ended up getting both entrées. Totally unnecessary miscommunication. I was also told the empanadas were "small," and ordered too much for my party. They went untouched because our entrées came out and we wanted to just eat those. Even the sweet shrimp salad, Alejandro's recommendation, went untouched. I felt they were unnecessary orders. The empanadas the next day (today) are soggy on the inside after warming. The sweet shrimp is glazed and breaded and meant to be hot, so you have to reheat those separately from the salad to keep the salad part cold. They probably would have tasted great last night. Water is not free. The chips and guacamole are not free. This is not your Chili's or El Torito's. We were also missing forks but those came quickly when we asked. The inability to be able to communicate freely and clearly with our server was exasperating. His nice personality made up for it a little, but still...I think that in a public establishment in the US, some English knowledge is useful. It was not a horrible experience, but neither was it great. I do not know if I would come back. On average it was $51.25 per person, not including tip. Way overpricey. The food was amazing to be honest, everything I tried and ate was chef's kiss, from the ceviche to the Mexican sushi even the steak was nice and tender which a lot of marisco places I've gone tend to fail in the steak category. The service was 10/10 the lady that served us was very attentive and would remove our empty dirty plates to have more room. Ambiance wise this place it lit and could only imagine how it gets when the banda comes. Yes it is on the rowdy side with the music and I would definitely say this place is more for adults to hang and have a fun time rather than bring your kids although they do accommodate because my girls actually like it. I have long been a fan of Culichitown, with my friends and I having fond memories of our dining experience at their Fresno location, hailing it the best in customer service we have ever received. Regrettably, our recent visit to Culichitown San Jose was far from satisfactory. It's worth sharing that this restaurant held a red carpet private opening the day before the public grand opening, a week prior to our visit. If they had put the same effort in flying out influencers and paying them to post their content, as they did in serving their real customers; then I would never be writing this review. This is not their first restaurant, it's their 17th, and we expected more. My point in sharing this raw and honest review is in the hopes that it serves as constructive feedback for the restaurant to enhance its overall performance. Cleanliness: 3/5 Upon initial inspection, the table and dishware appeared clean. However, a closer look revealed various watermarks on the dishes, some of which were not properly polished. The women's bathroom faced issues such as running out of hand soap and napkins, & according to my partner - the same went for the mens bathroom. Service: 1/5 Service proved to be the crutch of this Culichitown location. In our table of 5: 1 person's order was messed up 3 times, another order was messed up 1 time, and most notably, water refills were neglected for all of us. When requested, they would only bring one glass for our party of five. We would also repeatedly ask for extra napkins and were never brought them, after multiple asks!! Our plates and silverware were also constantly being taken away, and never replaced! We had to start holding onto them as to not lose the one thing we could eat with! The server's oversight extended to a failed attempt to clear our beer bucket while the beers were still full, and still in the bucket. Had we not noticed their mistake, the beers we paid for would not have been ours to drink! For the person at our table whose order was messed up 3 times: the manager was responsible for 2 of the fails! Staff continued to gaslight us to believe that our orders were not wrong and that it was our fault! They don't even know what the dishes look like! They would tell us we ordered one thing and when they tried to fix it, tell us we actually ordered another thing-anything to make them sound right. The server confirmed our order with us the first time, & it was correct! But I suppose she must have put in the wrong order and when the manager got involved, he was relentless in trying to make us believe that we don't know what we're ordering. At one point they even took the menus from us because we kept showing them where they were wrong. We even showed them pictures of the plates online and that's when they decided to start listening. By the time the plate had come out wrong.. for the 3rd time, 1.5 hours after we had ordered, 4/5 of us had BEEN finished our food. In light of the missing plates we ate family style as so no one would leave hungry and when the plate finally came -wrong- we decided to just take it to-go. We accepted that the back and forth wasn't worth it, paid our bill, and left. Attempts to address order discrepancies were met with resistance and gaslighting from both the server and manager. We were charged for items that management said they would not charge us for because they were the wrong dish, adding frustration to an already challenging dining experience. While the restaurant was adequately staffed, it felt as though everyone was on their first day. Mistakes in order handling, poor communication, and a lack of experience in addressing customer concerns were glaring issues. Even the manager's involvement failed to rectify the situation. Food Quality: 4/5 Fortunately, the food quality managed to salvage some of the dining experience. Our orders included tilapia, 3 aguachiles, camarones en salsa negra and boiling shrimp, all of which were satisfactory except for the overcooked boiling shrimp. The shrimp was so overcooked that it became a paste when peeled (no exaggeration). Boiling crab is in the same plaza, don't commit the same mistake as us & just go there for seafood boil. The aguachile was amazing and the absolute highlight of the meal. Wait: 4/5 Arriving at 7:30 on a Saturday evening, we were greeted with a 3 hr wait for an inside table, which is expected given that this is a well-known franchise with amazing food. The outside seating option provided immediate availability, so we chose to do that. It was raining that day but the rain was offset by a roof and heaters, making the outside seating very comfortable. The Bad: The birthday thing they do they charged us $80. The birthday boy doesn't drink so we asked for the birthday celebration to not have any alcohol as they looked like shots on instagram. Point is, for them to do what I've never seen a restaurant charge for, $80. The fish tacos tasted "fishy". Obviously fish should taste like fish, but this was the fish is old/not fresh nasty fishy situation. I asked for tequila and soda water - house tequila as mixed doesn't make a difference to me. Ordered 3 and the charged $22 each, so $66 plus 20% tip. The Good: Service was good just annoying that every time you used a napkin they came to pick it up but keep reaching all over us and across us rather than walking to the side where whatever they wanted to grab was. This is probably poor training. But, they were available and we were able to order what we wanted quickly. Botana Especial has cooked shrimp, sliced scallops, aguachile, octopus, avocado, cucumber slices. Was delicious! Everything in the plate was perfect. Shrimp empanadas were also delicious. Pescado zaramdeado was also delicious. Steaks with shrimp was also great. So why 3 stars?: Food mostly good but found it a rip off that there's no warning their birthday song is $80. Probably would agree if shots were alcohol AND they warned you. But no warning and $80 for juice? Rip off. Also, $22 for house tequila? Rip off. Blossom & Bourbon, just as nice and good extremely delicious but different type of menu and considered "high end", the tequila soda water is $10. I walked in and immediately noticed that the ambience was very nice and the building have been very well Designed. I sat down immediately and was able to order food. They brought out complementary chips and salsa. That was some of the best I've ever had. The food was full of flavor tasted very fresh And the service was nice.
