Found this place during brunch on Sunday. The vibe/aesthetic of the ambience is very cool. The food was good, but it seemed to be lacking a little something. They're attempting to do a higher end brunch but are just slightly missing the mark. I have been on a roll with amazing burgers lately. First, I fell in love all over again with Chris Madrid's. Then, Luke's burger blew my mind and now, Attaboy burgers has taken the top spot! Went by at midnight on a Friday and asked the Chef, "What's this truck's specialty?" He first gave me an option of vegetarian or beef. Sorry Chef, didn't mean to laugh in your face when I said, "Vegetarian?!" but I'm a meat-eating gal.. He recommended the Burger of the Day which was a beef burger with Prosciutto, Irish cream cheese topped with a fried egg. Oh and on a freshly made bun. After wrapping my head around how damn delicious this burger was going to be I nodded my head and gave the man my money. 8 - 10 minutes later, I was making out with this burger. That first bite? You can't go wrong with AB. Not at all. Those burgers are juicy, delicious, and made me shed a tear after the first bite. Even when Chris didn't have the burger that Ash M. mentioned on the menu, I told him just fix me up a burger with an egg. Oh and he did that alright. He whipped up something with an egg, bacon, and other extras. I remember when my partner in crime and I were almost fighting over who would get the next bite! The fries are a welcome accompaniment with his burgers - crispy and tender. And I'm still trying to figure out what they're coated with... hmmm... Oh, and a really nice gesture by Chris (and many of the other food trucks at Alamo Street Eat Bar) was there was a homeless dog that wandered in to the area one night. Best Fries these Lips have ever Kissed! I only ordered one thing here--the fries. They are included with every burger, but they charge $4 for an order of fries as a side, which I thought was too much. I got the fries because next door, my shrimp poboy seller didn't sell fries. Good for me. The fries are difficult to describe. They were hand-cut, soft, very starchy with a great taste of potato, but what places them in the stratosphere is the wonderful taste of fat. What kind of fat, I don't know. I have never had that flavor on my lips before. I don't think it was duck fat. It could have been peanut oil, as me being from Louisiana knows all good seafood down there is fried in peanut oil. I know one thing: It wasn't the same vegetable oil I buy. Dedication to the art of the perfect burger is what it is all about at Attaboy. James wakes every morning at 4am to bake his breads fresh. And he often works weekends until closing down at 2am. His gratification for his hard work and toil comes from satisfaction and praise from customers. James is thinking to expand the menu to include some sandwich options on fresh bread, a French toast concoction (maybe a sweet and savory French toast burger?), and special brownies with homemade fudge and caramel. Attaboy, Attaboy Burgers! This is one of my favorite burgers in San Antonio! Chris Cullum can crank out the burgers! He knows what he's doing! I love the buns- a Hawaiian type of fluffy, sweet bread with some seeds on the top. It goes well with the saltiness of the burger and fries. The sweet potato fries are heavenly here. Some of the best I've had in a long, long time. The place always serves up a hearty meal. If a burger and fries aren't filling enough, they can put a fried egg on top of anything. I hadn't read the other reviews before I came...pictures sold me on trying this truck. I came to the Alamo Street Eat Bar on a Saturday night kind of late, and when I saw a veggie burger on the Attaboy menu I knew I had to try it. Wicked good, the New Englander in me says so ;-) I have never had a veggie patty that tastes quite like this one. There is an obvious amount of love put into making this...spices are fantastic and it's grilled to perfection (not crumbling apart). I don't have a clue what's mashed in there, I think I bit into a white bean at some point. Whatever flavors are blended for it are so wonderful that this burger requires no sauce. And then there's the bun...I admit I often push my bread to the side, but no, this bun is also grilled to perfection and delicious. At least try the top half if you're trying to eliminate the carbs! I won't leave out the fries here, because they're noteworthy. They're seasoned deliciously with lots of pepper and have a fantastic consistency. I also don't usually eat my fries, but these were not the usual. Also did not need sauce...don't pass them up. Service is very friendly. My food was ready quick, but I happened to be the only patron so I can't speak for when it's slammed. I wish I ate more meat so I could sample more of their burgers ... The thing about burgers is that they make you crave a beer and beers make you crave fries so if by any cosmic chance you get a chance to encounter all three at the same time, you embrace the moment and hold it and squeeze it..... Enter a fine evening at Alamo Eat Bar and Attaboy! Gorgeous night so we decided to swing by Alamo to grab a pint and nosh. The evening started well when we found a nice table right away, friendly dogs and people next to us and a pint of Ranger Creek IPA in my own glass (yes yes I am a snob ..I take my own pint glass to places and refuse to drink out of plastic!) and life was good. A quick walk to grab food took us to Attaboy who had a Vegan Burger! These things are hard to come by for the wife...so we ordered a vegan burger, and a burger with fried egg. This vegan burger was the best vegan burger we have ever had (excluding my home made one of course!). This was gobs of veggies with brown rice and peanuts adding a very pleasant crunch, well crusted on the outside and heavenly in the soft bun (I suspect was not vegan). The regular burger was quite reminiscent of old diner burgers which are cooked on a flattop so have a nice crust outside with a meaty inside all enveloped in that soft bun with the egg adding that yolky richness and slight crispiness from the eggwhites...all just being the perfect bite washed down with the IPA. About a week ago I decided to give Attaboy Burgers another chance to redeem themselves after giving them a shot almost a year ago. To tell you the truth, at the risk of pissing off lots of Attaboy Burgers fanboys/girls here on Yelp, I'll never be able to comprehend why Attaboy gets more respect than Rodney Dangerfield. For one you don't get mustard or any condiment of your choice on your burger nor do you get any tomato or jalapenos, all you get is lettuce and pickles. Oh and can somebody please tell me what's up with the fries sticking together? The owner/chef also gives you an attitude if you dare ask him any simple questions. Plus the $10 estimated price tag for a burger/fries combo is just way too damn much and isn't even worth it. We waited close to 45 minutes for our food, it seemed that they took a bunch of orders and cooked several burgers at the same time. The two ladies that were working there looked lost and overwhelmed. When we did finally get our food, the burgers were amazing and the fries were really good. They really need to step up their customer skill service and getting food out on time. My boss recommended this burger truck and told me I HAD TO TRY IT. To be honest, the burger was just okay. The ingredients tasted fresh and when I asked for mustard and ketchup, the chef said that the burgers come "as is" - which I respect, but I think some mustard and ketchup would have made that burger more to my liking. It has excellent flavors and was extremely filling. The sweet potato fries were a pleasant surprise, I normally like sweet potato fries but these are definitely in the top best fries. I definitely want to congratulate the Instagram team for this place. The pictures look amazing but the flavor is just not what we imagined. The "pickles" was more like a relish that tasted like a souerkrout which turned me off right away (no subs or mods allowed). The bun was nice, the beef patty was over cooked/burnt edges and it lacked flavor. the fries with the cheese sauce definitely saved this review. Yep, what they say about Attaboy's fries is 100% true. I went to grab some fries to accompany my po' boy from Where Y'at (I will definitely be trying the much talked about amazing Attaboy burgers next time). When presented with the difficult choice of regular fries or sweet potato, I asked the chef to pick, and he suggested the sweet. In addition to already being sweet potatoes, they are sprinkled with some sort of crystal clear, crunchy, sugary, crack-like seasoning. SO. GOOD. I will probably never eat another sweet potato fry and be as satisfied. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the regular fries and a burger, but don't know if I'll be able to resist ordering the sweet fries too! read more

At Alamo Eat Street there were some healthful options, but the Attaboy truck kept whispering "eat a burger." The guys working at the truck were super friendly and even let my kiddo check out the cooking going on inside. I did contemplate ordering the fried egg version, but since I didn't have any Lipitor on hand decided it might be better to stick to a regular option. The bread makes this burger. It is buttery, soft in the center, crisp on the edges melt in your mouth goodness. I didn't get crazy with toppings, so this burger measured up on its' own. The fries were fresh cut and had some salty sweet seasoning. For my burger, fries and a Mexican coke it was about $12, so really easy to keep coming back for more. read more

Second time trying an Attaboy burger and I didn't believe it could get better. Boy was I wrong. Hands down the best burgers in SA. I took the chefs suggestion this time around and had him make me whatever he wanted. I was not disappointed. He prepared a bacon burger with muenster cheese, and caramelized onions in red wine and brown sugar. The ingredients are so fresh and flavorful. The MOST DISAPPOINTING AND OVERPRICED "burger" I've ever had! Just got back from eating at this particular food truck at Alamo Eats, and not only because every other food truck there was sold out, but I was really in the mood for a good burger. After placing my order for a bacon cheeseburger, I was charged $8 (which DID NOT include and fries or drink for your information)! At first, I thought it was just ridiculously overpriced, but then I found out that it normally WOULD have included an order of fries. However, since they were out of fries by 9:00 pm (how is that even possible?!), I was NOT given any fries, BUT I WAS STILL CHARGED FOR THEM!!! WHAT?!!! As other reviews have noted, the service is in fact terrible. The man/cook/owner was very unfriendly, flippant, dismissive, and completely uninterested in whether I wanted to place an order. Then, he had the audacity to ask what kind of tip I wanted to add to the total! Before the order was placed, before the "burger" was made, before I had the chance to determine whether he even DESERVED a tip or not, he had already asked for one, HA! I had to wait about 7 minutes for my order. The wait wasn't the worst part of the experience, especially since most people were also getting burgers (as I said, everything else was already sold out). I was just anxiously awaiting my "burger", hoping that it would be as satisfying as any sandwich that costs $8 very well better be. When heading to pick up my burger, I was wary of its appearance as I could barely see the patty at all. I was about 20 feet away, so I thought, "Maybe it's just because I'm so far away from the burger". Sadly, this was not an optical illusion, the burger was about 10% meat and 90% bun! This wouldn't be such a big deal if these "freshly" made buns were actually any good. But it was somehow incredibly greasy on top and still really dry and stale at the same time. I'm guessing it was baked several hours before and the "cook" threw it on the very greasy grill just to heat it up and cover up how stale it already was. After the first bite, I found the meat in the burger was just as disappointing. The patty was pathetically small and tasteless yet somehow, still VERY GREASY! I thought, "At least I have some bacon to look forward to..." However, after biting into the "burger", I wondered where my bacon was; I couldn't even see any bacon from the outside. Even a run-of-the-mill, fast food burger will have some bacon peeking out the sides of the sandwich. Most of all, I paid $8 for this "burger", so I better get the bacon I paid for, right?! So, I opened up the burger and didn't see any bacon! But, what I DID find was SO MUCH WORSE! There was a very small lump near the center of the patty very cleverly concealed under the cheese. I lifted up the cheese and found about ten small, white squares underneath that looked almost like onions. I looked closer and realized that these were large chunks of bacon FAT! Not a single piece of bacon or morsel of meat, ONLY FAT!!! My only regret is not taking a picture of this outrage so I could have attached it to this review for everyone to see. But I was just in such utter disbelief that it never even occurred to me to document this. It was a completely unbelievable and deceitful ploy to con me out of my bacon! Just as I had been conned out of the fries that I was also charged for, but never received! I never post reviews about food, even if I'm not very happy with my experience; it just doesn't seem worth my time. But I was just SO disgusted and SO disappointed by my whole experience at Attaboy's, I had to say something. I still can't believe that I dished out $8 for this joke of a sandwich, but please heed my warning and think twice before you ever eat at Attaboy's, you will be SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED! I have a very strong feeling that most of the glowing reviews on here where written by people who weren't exactly sober when they ate their food because I still can't even believe how awful my experience was. There are so many great burger joints in San Antonio that are far beyond Attaboy's, not just in customer service, but in quality, meal size and price. So save yourself the trouble and go to Chester's or Armadillo's or Chris Madrid's instead. Seriously, ANYWHERE ELSE! Veggie burger was oddly shaped and obviously smashed together after the cook. I tried to put sauce on it and half the burger came up with the top bun and the rest was loose on the rest of the bun-looked like a burned grain salad that was scooped onto the bun. There was no picking this up. Some veggie burgers can lose shape but this was beyond that point. The part that was in a party shape was burned black. The top bun was burned on both sides and rest of the bun was dripping with oil. Disappointed. Had been excited to try this place on our trip to San Antonio to see one of our favorite bands. Everything they serve is made from scratch, from the fresh baked buns to the meat that is ground in house (on truck?). The fries are like nothing that I've ever had before. As a self proclaimed burger expert, I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while and finally did last night. I normally visit another food truck known for their hilarious food item names but decided to give attaboy a try since I was already at paper tiger. Now attaboys heavily promotes the use of their premium ingredients and scratch made ingredients which aren't necessarily bad things in regards to the taste. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and a Coke. The bacon was really primo, thick cut and a bit chewy due to it. The burger was tasty however, the low score is for the pricing. A bacon cheeseburger and coke, no fries, and a tip, was $15+... Mama Mia! I'd honestly be willing to pay this if it was a combo or came with fries or at the very least was a quarter pound or bigger burger. The bread is also too thick for the small patty on the burger. It was tasty bread but "where's the beef?". All in all, if money is no object in your quest for a prime burger on the st Mary's strip, this place works. Finally!! A great burger in Southtown!! Last time I looked for a burger place, Attaboy hadn't moved to their new location and so I ended up at Burger Culture. Between that place and Burgerteca, I almost gave up on a good burger in this area. (Disclaimer - these 2 places aren't horrible, just not great. And I am a burger snob.) But Attaboy's new location is right on my typical weekend bike ride so I pulled in. Nice looking truck, good location right off Alamo with lots of seating, and there's the ebike shop for browsing when you're waiting on your burger. Prices are high, that's true. Not outrageously high for a food truck, but it is expensive. I paid just at $14 for the special and fries. Damn, I can't stand when a high-end burger place uses frozen fries. But Attaboy's are made fresh and are delicious. Good ketchup as well. The bun was soft and buttery, but held up to the burger. The meat was nicely seasoned, cooked just to medium, and juicy. The special today had caramelized onions and a balsamic reduction. Excellent! Great guys in the truck as well. Other than the price, there wasn't a single negative about Attaboy's. Tried this place out, as nothing else caught my eye. Other than the "seemingly inconvenienced by taking my order" guy, this truck is pretty damned tasty. The sweet potato fries are boss, lightly coated in what seemed like tempura batter and fried up nicely, the burger itself was delicious (got the bacon burger and added a fried egg to make it into what I'm calling a "breakfast burger" (patent pending)) and the bun was sweet (literally). So sad. The first time I ate here it was simply amazing. However, the last two times I've been here the burgers have been overcooked.
