I recently visited this newish restaurant and really wanted to like the place, but the menu isn't that large (more like a casual restaurant) and the food ordered was just average at best. It's also a little confusing when you enter, since it's not that obvious, but this is a counter service restaurant and you have to look around to figure out if someone is going to seat you, or what. I visited on a weekday, and it was pretty slow, except for a group sitting in a reserved section off to the left. They do have outdoor patio seating as well. My group ordered the 1/2 lb "homemade patty" bacon cheeseburger, the patty melt, and the grilled chicken sandwich. Burger - it is NOT a homemade patty. It's a preformed oval-shaped patty that tastes like something direct from Sysco. French fries are pre-seasoned and previously frozen. I liked that it came with cheddar and red onions though. However, for around $15, it also comes with cheap iceberg lettuce. The bun is okay, but overall, this burger has a high bun to meat ratio. You don't taste the cheese much at all. Bacon is the best thing about this burger. 3/5 at best Patty melt - same patty, average if you like patty melts 3/5 Cutten chicken sandwich - bun is thick. I met some friends up here for dinner one night. When I arrived there was a note on the door saying that it was closed and would open later at 6p. I was meeting my friend at 5:30p, so I gave them a call and we decided to wait till 6p instead of meeting somewhere else. They arrived at the restaurant around 5:45p and we took another look at the door and the sign had been removed and they were now open. We went inside, and you order at the counter. The counter person was very nice, and since it was my 1st time going it took me awhile to decide what I wanted. She didn't get impatient with me (there wasn't anyone behind me) and she even made some suggestions. After you order, you get a number, your drink glass and find your own seat. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. We took a seat next to the windows and waited for our dinner. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. Chicken Fried Steak - was a good size, nicely breaded and tender. It was pretty good. The cream gravy was really good. Mashed Potatoes - Smooth and creamy. What you'd expect when ordering mashed potatoes. Green Beans - Probably my favorite part of the meal. I love green beans and these didn't disappoint. Came here after seeing another review on Instagram. The ambiance was chill. Our waiter Shaun was friendly and attentive. We started w/ complimentary Cornbread, one piece each, expected more. It was cake like, buttery and sweet. I had the Grilled Chicken w/ mashed & green beans. The chicken & mashed was delicious, green beans came out lukewarm. Hubby had the Deviled Eggs w/ chicken appetizer which he liked and for dinner had the Meatloaf which was also great. They had $5 drinks, I had a Lemon Drop which will be my new fav drink, lol. Okay just to start off I don't usually write reviews for anyone but I'm actuay flabbergasted at this place. So when you first walk in the building is nice the vibes are good. We had four people and the waitress/Host Mabey? sat us down and just walked away didn't ask if we needed anything(water etc.) or tell us how to order. So after looking at the menu for 15 minutes (mind you no one came to check on us) we found out how to order/start a tab. We put in our orders and again no one comes by for about 25 minutes at this time to see if we want drinks or ANYTHING. The food comes out and the waiter practically almost ran away I had to call for him to let us request water/silverware for the tabel it was crazy. Now to the food I ordered the crawfish egg rolls chicken fried steak and the meatloaf. The egg rolls had a good flavor but man have you ever had a floppy spilling egg roll? 5/10 at most. And don't get me started on burnt cornbread my god‍. My chicken fried steak was mid-cold not even crispy and my dirty rice was cold as well. My friend ordered what he thought was a po-boy, it was basically a fish sand-which I don't know how you make a po-boy without french bread ‍and his rice was cold as well. We liked! Love the fact that it's counter service. Great options for everyone - teen got a tasty cheeseburger, hubs got chicken fried steak and I had healthy grilled chicken with sides. Only downside - chicken fried batter was like catfish batter - that needs to change. Service was easy - cornbread to the table while you wait. Tons of screens if you're looking for a game. We went to Cutten Kitchen for a 2nd visit because of an IG post. We thought we would give it another try. Last experience it was new and there was no one there. This time it was several people and they evidently are not ready for the expansion. Here goes the experience: It's a party of two. We were seated fast. We received our menus and give quite a bit of time to look over the menu. Drink order was taken and we were told we would receive our appetizer by the way is a very thin slice of cornbread. No plates to eat on, no silverware because we later found out they only had enough for a big party of twenty who was celebrating a birthday. Not ready for expansion. Once we placed our order it took a minute to get the food. Food had a good taste but what Cutten Kitchen needs is servers, bus servers, a bartender, and hostess. Several people are doing everything so makes me believe they can't afford staffing they definitely were short on all fronts. After we had eaten here is where service got bad. Ticket came and we decided to pay in cash so we could leave a tip. We believe in tipping accordingly. The waitress was given a 100.00 our bill was 60.62 which meant we were owed 39.38. She brought back the 39.00 but not the .38 cents. No explanation that they were short on change. I don't believe the customer should take a loss without any explanation just 39.00 so we got someone attention and the waitress comes over and she brings another 1.00 saying we don't have change and in these situations we either go up or down. What does that mean? That should have been explained when we made the exchange or maybe Cutten Kitchen should be a cashless restaurant. I believe they can be better once and if they tweak those minor changes if they are able because being in the restaurant business is no easy feat. I try to support businesses because I am an owner myself and know that it takes small businesses to keep the economy stable. However customer service in many environments is at an all time low. Hopefully they will be around because that location has been renamed since inception at least twice. read more

Attended my nephew's birthday brunch at Cutten Kitchen. The food was really great and presented beautifully (I regret not taking pictures). It has a great atmosphere. The music was a bit loud. I was screaming to talk to my sister sitting right next to me. I only gave 4 stars because for our group of about 20 people we only had 1 server (Stacy) taking our orders, but she was very friendly and accommodating. Our service order was weird. We received our food way ahead of our drinks. And we received the complementary cornbread after we had finished our meal. Maybe it was just a bad day. Food was good, service from some wait staff (not all) and management staff stinks. Don't sign up for the rewards program because literally no one in the building knows how it works! First, my husband signed up for the program. I didn't know how it worked but saw we were eligible for a bill credit. We asked multiple times to apply our order to our rewards program. Our server asked for our phone number and we showed her the account giving us a credit on our phone. She took my card and went to what I believe was a register behind a wall. After watching her struggle at her station, she brought back the bill after running the card with no sign of the rewards account being applied let alone a credit anywhere on the slip. She literally dropped both copies, a red pen, and ran off without waiting to see if we had any additional questions. Seeing the rewards were not applied, we took the bill to the manager on staff who also had no idea what he was looking at as he made up that somehow we needed a registered credit card for the rewards to show up. After leaving the restaurant and looking at the receipt more closely, we NEEDED the email address used and NO EMPLOYEE asked us for this even after both seeing the rewards account on our phone and a receipt with no sign of a rewards account applied(credit or not). So, perhaps the staff should be fully trained on how the rewards program works before offering it to customers like us who want to come frequently and take advantage of the benefits. We got nothing this evening. If you get Lailah as your server, be prepared to wait long time stretches for her to return as she spends her time hanging out with other servers and not paying attention to the needs of her customers. Also expect for her to forget about your appetizers, drinks, and any other "asks" she promised to take care of during your visit. We asked another server to help us and seeing us speak to that person, she approaches all of us then commands the other server to take care of our request instead of her doing the work for her table. Who does that? Luckily for us, the other server (didn't get her name) was quick and very friendly. We thanked her and expressed how we wished to have her because we didn't have to wait this time with our request. At the end of the day, we felt very disappointed about the lack of service and the disregard to actually solve the issue instead of a bogus explanation that was not true. I would have respected an "I don't know how to do this or how it works" you know, TRUTH rather than being blown off as not important to the sustainability of this restaurant from repeat customers like we were up until this point. My hope... our hope is that the level of service meets the level/quality of the food. If Lailah was new, perhaps she needed someone to work with her. (I don't think she was new. I think she was comfortable and lacking motivation to take her job seriously.) Also, I expected the management to be a cut above the rest...the subject matter expert. Ready to solve the issue and not allow a customer to be left without the benefit promised as I likely will choose a different Black owned business to frequent because service is just as important to me as food quality. The combination makes for a wonderful dining experience. That makes a difference on a Friday during happy hour. Oh, just in case you were wondering: the restaurant was NOT busy. There may have been 8-10 tables maximum while we were there and definitely when we left. Zero excuses for any delays. I hope others will have a better service experience moving forward because the food is really good when actually served hot and timely! Good luck! read more

I asked a few questions and was told oh the menu is old so that's not the price anymore then was not told what the new price was. My daughter's food took so long to come out everyone was either finished or about to finish their food. Her food was burned and dried out but it took so long that I didn't complain because we didn't want to wait longer. I'm on my way to buy my daughter food from somewhere else. The prices were too high for the quality or food and the amount. The po boy is $23 for a half of sandwich, $10 for a dry piece of chicken breast and fries for the kids plate. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was perfectly thick and full of flavor. The potatoes were perfect nice thick lumpy. the gravy was good. You could tell it was a package gravy, but still good. Got the fried catfish with french fries and coleslaw. The fish was amazing great batter. French fries seem to be homemade and phenomenal.. Tyson breaded chicken patties tastes better. A frozen fried patty with canned white gravy on top, canned potatoes with salt and pepper sprinkled on them and eggs for $25. omg! when i say this food was AMAZINGGGGGG, 10/10 ! i got the chicken and waffles and omg the chicken was seasoned the waffle was perfect with crust edges, the shrimp devil eggs was amazing again shrimp SEASOND too perfection the chef needs a raise!!!! my boyfriend got the catfish shrimp and grits and omgggg no sugar needed on the grits, fish was fried and perfect golden color.
