After my review, I paid for more tests…read morethrough a certified testing company, which found hazardous levels of asbestos left behind in every room that Watkins worked, ranging from 160% to more than 11,000% above the hazardous limit. (See images) I also contracted a second licensed abatement company to clean up the asbestos Watkins left behind and safely dispose of the carpets/contaminated furniture. Here are some side-by-side comparisons of how the two companies approached asbestos containment. In Sept 2022, I submitted a claim against Watkins through the CA State Licensing Board, which was passed on to an investigator who then escalated the claim to arbitration through the CA State Licensing Board. The arbitration took place in May 2023, and the arbitrator ruled that Watkins must reimburse me for all the damages they caused, which totaled more than $20,000. Watkins paid this in July 2023, and I've finally been able to pay for the last of the work needed to move back into my home.

Just a warning, this review is going to be pretty long. But if you're thinking about reinsulating…read moreyour home, that's a pretty big task, so I'll add as much detail as I can to help you! Background: The credit for green energy was ending in 2025, and I had always wanted to reinsulate my home because it was so cold in winter and super hot in summer. I went through many different companies and seeing how people felt about them, and I saw a lot of horror stories. I called up a few companies and found out that insulation is kind of like roofing, where a sales person and a tech comes, where the tech looks around and the sales person tries to scare you into using their company right then. They might say something like "your attic is super hot" (that's normal, well, up to a point), or "we'll give you a special deal if you say yes right now". Just kind of shady stuff overall. One big thing that people mention is that while insulation is good, you need to airseal your attic as well - this was another thing I was looking to get done. Initial Meeting: So I was kind of expecting that when I called Attic Professional. Fortunately, that was not the case at all! From other reviews you might have figured that the owner, Bryan, is incredibly respectful and treats customers well. I got to experience that as well. One thing I was surprised at is he had inside shoes (the kind you see in Japan) and put them on and off when walking around the house. He went up into my attic and really dug around to look for issues like pests or mold (besides the poor insulation layers). We went around the home together to look for clogged vents. He didn't try to sell me on anything - I remember reading one review that said he didn't try to sell them things they didn't need, and that was my experience too. He said they could put more insulation in on my existing one, or take out the old one and put new one in; but neither would have a substantial difference. I went ahead and asked him to remove the old insulation and put new insulation in just for cleanliness. I even later changed my mind and asked for a custom insulation scheme - some fiberglass batting and mostly blown-in, and he had no problem accommodating that. Oh, and they would include airsealing gaps in the attic with fire resistant foam! Reinsulation: A few weeks later, he and his team brought his truck up to my house. They covered many surfaces with plastic drop cloth to prevent insulation from flying around - they taped doorways so I could come through, and they taped cardboard to corners in the house so their insulation blower tube wouldn't cause damage. They put canvas drop cloths on the floors to protect them. There was a bit of fiberglass and debris around after, but it was very, very minor. I understand how difficult it is to be flawless with cleanup, but these guys were very good. The work was smooth and quick - only a few hours. I didn't have to add much input and the team was in and out. Bryan left for another site for an hour or so, but everyone was just as respectful as Bryan, and they told me he was a very good person to work for. Always nice to see that the employees have a good opinion of the company as well. One thing that I thought was interesting is after they removed all the previous insulation, they let me look at the attic and see how they stapled their measuring tapes. Apparently, some insulation companies will scam their customers and fold up their measuring tapes so it shows more insulation than what's actually in there. I was able to verify myself that all the measuring tapes were correct. Bryan and I did a final check on the attic together and I was very happy. Above and beyond: A month or so later, I was very curious about the insulation and really wanted to optimize the house, so I got one of those FLIR guns (temperature sensor guns) to see if the attic was perfectly insulated. As expected there were a few spots that had a bit of uneven insulation (after all, nobody's perfect), but for the most part everything was good. I sent Bryan a text about these spots, and he immediately he and his crew to come add some more insulation and pack it in. Now everything on the camera looks great. I think it's pretty rare to find such attention to quality, and I was very impressed. Results: In the San Diego weather by home would average 63 degrees when outside it was around 48. Now, the house never drops below 68, and it averages around 72 year round. When it's 85 degrees outside, it might be 76-78 inside. I've seen the temperature inside crack 80 maybe twice in the last year, and never seen it below 65. This is with no heater, no AC running EVER. So TLDR: I would completely recommend using Attic Professional for your insulation. Take a look at their price, but I find their quality far outshines anything I've seen, and I think I got a steal of a deal (with the now-removed credit sadly).

Told us what he saw and our straight up options. We knew what we wanted. We got a couple other quotes from other guys that were pushy with options and we knew they were giving us additional services even though it was obvious that there was no rodent activity in the attic. Bryan gave us a very competitive and reasonable price. His crew came, did the job, was super chill, and completed the job. House feels amazing now! 8-26-2010 Well I am very impressed. They came and got those leftover stains up in less than 5 minutes! I was impressed that D-Mac wasn't satisfied to do an excellent job on my carpets, but they wanted to go the extra mile where I was not 100% satisfied. I also learned that the guy who came the first time was let go a couple of days after he did my carpet, so D-Mac was already in tune to the fact that his heart was not in it before I wrote my first review. I would recommend this company to anyone. I have read case studies about companies that try to distinguish themselves for customer service. Now I can say I have had the pleasure of interacting with one of them. I am leaving my 2 initial posts below to tell the whole story of my interaction with D Mac and why I am so impressed. ---------------------------------------------- 8-20-2010 It is obvious D-Mac Restoration really cares about doing a good job for its customers. They gave me a call today and offered to come back and try harder to get those gummy stains out that I wrote in my review below. I was pleasantly surprised to get a call. After all, they did an excellent job on the carpets and I gave them a good review. But they want to go the extra mile to make sure they do the absolute best job that they can do--that is impressive! I had a very nice phone conversation and can see this company really cares about what the customer thinks. We also discussed the inaccurate quote, which really was a mistake on both sides, and I think we both learned from it. I am very happy with the work that got done at the price I paid, which I believe was a fair price & what I would have been quoted in the first place if I had been more accurate with my descriptions of the job. My schedule is booked until next Thursday--but when they come and I really see their extra effort on those stains I expect I will be upping my rating to 5 stars then. I am leaving my original review below to give the context for this update on my review. ------------------------ 8-19-2010 Overall I was happy with the service I got from D-Mac Restoration, but I do have a couple of issues. First of all, they gave me a very inaccurate quote over the phone. I described "2 rooms about 10 X 16 feet, a hallway 8 feet wide and roughly 20 feet long, and a much longer hallway also 8 feet wide, and a flight of stairs." The person on the phone quoted me $100 for both hallways plus the 2 rooms, and $30 for the stairs. I told him this is a building with high ceilings, and that the staircase was probably longer than some. He said, "That's OK--we win some and lose some on stairs." So my total quoted price was $130, and I was very happy about that. The truck arrived from D-Mac on time, and the gentleman who cleaned the carpet was very nice. However, he told me he couldn't do all the work for $130. The long hallway he told me was $100 just by itself. There was no way I could afford that, so I didn't do that hallway. Then he told me the stairs were $2 per stair and would be $50, and not $30. However, to keep me in the range of what I had been expecting to pay that day he agreed to do the 2 rooms that were 10 x 16, the 8 x 20 hallway and the stairs for $130. I accepted that, but I was very disappointed that this company did not honor their quote. When I called I was not in the building and so could not give the exact length of the long hallway (I knew the size of the rooms and the smaller hallway). I think the guy on the phone should have listened more carefully to my descriptions of the space and given me a more accurate quote. $100 off in a quote is quite a lot. I suppose I should have held them to their quote, but I just didn't have the energy to argue the point. My suggestion to anyone calling D-Mac is to have your exact measurements ready, plus the exact number of stairs that you need done. Then you will not have surprises when they come to clean. That being said, they did an excellent job on the carpets. The stairs look like new, and the many stains in the 2 rooms came out--some of those stains had been there for years and did not improve at all when another company did one of the rooms 2 years ago. As far as the quality of the work goes, my only disappointment was that there were 2 spots where something gummy was kind of ground in. Those gummy stains are still there, and they stand out all the more since the rest of the carpet looks so good. I wish he had done something to get those gummy stains out. My suggestion to future customers is to look over your carpet really carefully and ask for special treatment on any really hard looking stains. I would have asked the guy to come back and fix those, but they did not show up when the carpet was wet. I would definitely hire this company again. I will just be much more precise with room sizes when I call next, and with pointing out tough stains ahead of time. read more

We had to have carpet cleaning done in very short notice, and D-Mac was there to the rescue. They were able to squeeze us an appointment in 2 days time on a Saturday at noon. So call days in advance if you want to have some flexibility with your appointment time! The people on the phone were very friendly and professional. They answered all my questions and were spot on with the price quote based on how many rooms + stairs I had. Saturday comes and "Dano's" calls me that morning. So I was a tad confused, because I didn't know D-Mac Restoration and Dano's Carpet Cleaning actually work together. So, when Dano's called me, I thought, "Didn't I hire D-mac to do the job?". But they are indeed one in the same. The carpet cleaner (I want to say Dano is his name) actually wanted to move UP the appointment time that day because he was available to do the job right away. That would have been awesome for me, except that I was still in LA at the time. So I jumped into my car and drove down the 5 like a madman. Unfortunately, I was hit with stretches of traffic from San Clemente down to Carlsbad. I felt terrible because I knew he was waiting for me at my complex to start the job. Needless to say, I was late and he had been waiting for me. + stars for being patient and being nice despite my tardiness. That's a minus star for me. But he worked fast and efficiently. He was extremely honest about the stains that probably wouldn't come off. For the most part, Dano got off most of the stains and left the carpet looking quite spiffy. Our home was just finished by D-Mac. We had a broken pipe in our bathroom that caused a flood and major water damage to our home. These guys were so awesome in dealing with our insurance company for us and getting this place back together. They explained every step of the process to us and answered every question we had. I called them numerous times with concerns and they always took time to talk to me and answer my questions. Because the damage was so severe, we couldn't save our existing cabinetry so we ended up getting our bathroom completely remodeled. It looks even better then I could have imagined AND it didn't cost us extra. Now I'm hoping our kitchen will flood out so I can get D-Mac back in here. We decided to have our carpet cleaned after our landlord used a company that made the carpet look worse than it ever had. After reading many good reviews on yelp for dmac I decided to email and went back and forth with Chuck for a while. I sent him pictures and he explained too me that even if they cleaned the carpet, it could return to being stained because of oils in the carpet. I loved that he warned me and decided to book anyways and couldnt be happier! Robert showed up before work and was so polite as I was running around to get ready with my son. He set up and we all left for the dat. On my brake I came home to a note saying Merry Christmas and that they did all of our rooms instead of just the living room!! Their prices were very reasonable and Jason; the tech, was on time and very friendly while still being professional. Jason was here for about 2 hours and the both the carpets and couches look brand new. It was nice to work with a company who was true to their word. I have previously used D-MAC for carpet cleaning for some commertial sites. I was happy enough with their services that I called them for my own home and they have outdone themselves once again. Everytime i called the office the manager answered promptly and adressed my request quickly and easily. I'm an apartment owner/manager and have used D-Mac for several flood events from broken pipes. I just had another this week and made the mistake of calling another company, which I think tried to take advanatage of me. I called Dan at D-Mac and he was at the site in a few hours and agreed. Once again, D-Mac not only has done superb work, got the complete restoration job done fast, were absolutely great with my tenants (very important to me when they are upset about being put out of their home), but also saved me a ton of money. Just got done getting my carpet stretched and cleaned by Adan from D-Mac. He did an amazing job. The carpet looked warped from a poor installation and dirty from the use but by the time Adan was done it looked brand new. Was considering buying new carpet but for a fraction of the price Adan gave us new looking carpet. He was courteous, knowledge and on time. I would look no further than D-Mac for carpet needs. We recently had a flood in our home. I never want to experience something like that again but thank you to D-Mac Restoration for seeing us through from beginning to end. D-Mac came in with a crew ripped out our damaged carpet, drywall etc. They came back in and repaired walls, laid new flooring and paint from top to bottom. The crew was very friendly, neat with their work and most of all trustworthy. My family was placed in a hotel for 2 1/2 weeks during that time we put all our trust in D-Mac and they took care of business. I would highly recommend D-Mac . read more

D-Mac was recommended by a close friend, we called them up to schedule an appointment for 2 places, my mom's house and mine, Jason our rep arrived on time very friendly and professional, he did my mom's house first, the carpet was horrible it had stains that no one else was able to remove before, Jason took his time and clean it very well, the carpet's color end up like we never seen before. We had two separate plumbing leaks in our house taking out laminate flooring, cabinets in two bathrooms as well as the kitchen. I was referred to Jim P. Because our kitchen was being totaled, Jim was able to help us envision a new space. Plus, some of the nicest workers were scheduled to work in our house. You should see it now! I live in a house with four guys so we trashed our carpets and needed them cleaned. After reading the reviews I called multiple cleaning companies to get quotes, they had great specials for the types of cleaning we needed. Jason showed up in the time frame given and even gave me a courtesy call to let me know he was almost here. The cleaning is better then I thought it would be and was done super fast. Now we can actually see the original color of our carpets. I def. recommend these guys, you cant go wrong. read more

I have used this company for cleaning my mother's very stained carpet several times a year. She is very elderly and creates many stains. D-Mac is an exceptional company with excellent employees, in particular Robert. Easy to work with, even from a distance as I do not live in the state. He always manages to have the carpet looking great before I visit, which is about 3 times a year. The staff is friendly, proficient and do quality work. D-Mac Restoration can not be beat. The price was totally affordable, the customer service was top notch, and the job was well done. I have 3 stair wells totalling 37 steps and 2 bedrooms that hadnt been cleaned in over 3 years add to dogs to mix = a filthy carpet. I was totally amazed that Jason got all the stains out. Glad I found D-Mac! Technician Jason was given the responsibility of getting some really foul animal odors out of an 8'x10' area rug we dropped off (it was in a rental with supposedly no pets... well you get the picture). We got it back within a week and the rug looks (and smells) like new. Jason is the Trevor Hoffman of cleaning with this "Save". I was told from the very start that some of it might not come off, they were very dark spots on a white carpet but came off very well, not completely but not very noticeable at all. Awesome job by Jason at D-Mac. Not only are our carpets totally clean, but Jason was friendly, upfront, and professional. I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else for carpet cleaning. It's the second time we've used them and both times we have been very happy with the results. Our carpet was filthy as we have two toddlers, and now it looks brand-new. A few years back when I flooded, Dan and his crew came out on Christmas Eve and saved me. I have been wowed by their service, honesty, trustworthiness, and fabulous job they do ever since.
