Really great Italian food as long as you don't mind the sticker price. What we got: Roasted oysters- not a fan of these despite me being an oyster lover. Waaaay too salty for my taste, and the only miss of the night IMO. Octopus Carpaccio- very nice presentation, and the bread that they pair with this was delicious. Prosciutto di Parma- a very simple dish that highlights the quality of the ingredients. Prosciutto was tasty as always, melon was delectably ripe, and I liked the horseradish which cut through the sweet and salty quite nicely. Pappardelle- my favorite dish of the night. At first I was a bit wary because the noodles seemed a bit softer than I would've liked. But the slight softness (without being soggy) actually soaked up the rich sauce really well. Really excellent balance between acidity, sweetness and unctuousness. Agnolotti- liked this a lot as well. Will need to try their other pastas as well, but this place really does a bang up job with rich, hearty pastas it seems. Service was nice and prompt- my water was constantly kept refilled. Cannot emphasize this enough, this is one of the best underrated places to eat downtown. I want to gatekeep it, but I can't because it's just too good not to let other humans try their food. They have some of the best servers in the city, very well rounded wine list, amazing bartenders, and the food is just phenomenal. It's a beautiful little hidden gem right around the corner from a boisterous street. Very romantic and great for couples or groups that want to engage in conversation. This place has been on my list for a while so I was excited to snag a res on a wednesday evening. This cozy Italian restaurant is ideally located in west village. When you walk in, immediately you're greeted with the smells of fresh pasta and a warm and welcoming environment. It was quite busy however, and once we were seated we didn't see the waiter again for about 20-30 minutes. That's the main reason I can't give this place 5 stars as it was a struggle to put in our orders for drinks let alone food. The food itself was quite good luckily! We started with the warm rosemary foccacia which was the perfect start. Fragrant and toasty, it's just the kind of bread you want from an Italian restaurant. We then got the roasted oysters which were buttery and delectable. Definitely a strong start. For the entrees, we tried the mezzalune pasta and the gnocchi. The mezzalune were delicious - basically like flat ravioli stuffed with ricotta and served with a great brown butter sauce. The gnocchi was a little underwhelming however, with an onion-heavy red sauce. Lastly, we ended with the dark chocolate panna cotta. While this was a good chocolatey dessert it was extremely sweet even for me (and I have quite the sweet tooth). Overall, I really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant which makes it a great place for a date. However, there is some room for improvement in the service and a few tweaks to be made with the food. Da Toscano is an Italian restaurant that opened during 2020, that I'd long wanted to go to, but only just made it here in May of this year. I made a reservation for one or two weeks prior to coming here. The reservations were easy to make on Resy, and had lots of open times. At the time of dining, they had both outdoor and indoor dining available. When we arrived, there were a couple of other diners already sitting and eating. We were seated immediately and brought water right away. We ordered two starters, the polpette and the PB&J bombolone. The polpette were very good, but I feel like this is a common appetizer and that it's hard to go wrong with meatballs. The PB&J bombolone on the other hand was my favorite dish here, and a very unique offering. It consisted of peanut butter and jelly along with foie gras encased in a doughnut like pastry. The foie gras went perfectly with the peanut butter and jelly. For mains, we had the tortellini and the gnocchi. I thought both were good but nothing to write home about. We also had the asparagus, which was pleasant and simply cooked. The service was pleasant and efficient. Would recommend for a nice Italian meal in the village. read more

Wow I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this small Italian spot in West Village! I loved their take on some of the dishes, and everything was very flavorful and unique. Highlight for me was def the oysters and gnocchi. Overall their seafood is very fresh. We started off with roasted oysters, and the crab fat butter it was baked in just made it all the more rich and flavorful. I haven't really had crab fat mixed with butter so thought the concept was pretty unique! The scialatelli was made with sour butter which helped with the richness of the cream sauce. The gnocchi came with soft shell crab and fava beans which seems like a strange pairing but was actually amazingly good. Finally the scallops had some golden raisins and pine nuts that created a good balance of flavors. Overall highly recommend and will def be back to try more! It was fairly packed on a Saturday night though so make res beforehand. read more

Everything we ate at Da Toscano was delicious (the warm rosemary focaccia with talegggio butter and the braised artichoke were my standouts of the meal) But what made this experience phenomenal was the service - the whole team were amazing (servers, food runners, floor manager, host) Super friendly, knowledgeable without being pretentious and attentive with really authentic warm energy vibes - you could feel they all loved working there. Wow! This place was really good! The ambiance initially is unassuming but the food is excellent! The focaccia was so fresh and moist, perfect way to start! The grilled oysters were out of this world! The crab butter was the perfect touch! The papardelle was so good for something so simple, I didn't order it myself because I thought it would lack depth but I wish I'd ordered it! I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews. I didn't know about it until a few months ago and so glad I finally tried it. Inventive Italian and spot on execution. Roasted oysters: the chili and crab fat butter - good till the last drop Pb&j bombolone: the quince was almost too sweet but that's why you need some foie gras in every bite! It's like having dessert for an app. Squid Ink Spaghetti: the blue crab is so generous and the salami calabrese is just right Pappardelle: so thinly rolled and cooked perfectly. The duck ragu is tender, and that foie on top- could eat that every day. Probably too much for two people but we also tried the Snout to Tail Confit and the Crispy Potato Vinaigrette which are totally worth trying. Only small downside is that the pasta and mains took a very long time to come but they were very busy for Friday night. Also the lighting could be a little better for taking pictures. Really great high end, fine Italian dining experience. The ambiance at the restaurant is great with fancier decor and classically dressed waitstaff. The service is impeccable to match the amazing food. The prices of the main pasta dishes are also not too high despite being a nicer restaurant though they do have some pricier upscale entree options. We went at 7:45 on a Wednesday and it was fairly empty. Everything we ordered was delicious. Absolutely get the Warm Rosemary Focaccia as an appetizer. The mix of the butter and herbs is amazing. I had the Spaghetti al Telefono. It is basically a cheesy spaghetti with a mild spice to it. My friend said the Orecchiette was great as well. Our cocktails were also tasty, not too strong or too fruity. We topped it off with the Dark Chocolate Panna Cotta. Would definitely recommend, it basically tastes like a thicker chocolate mousse. read more

Four of us shared 2 roasted oysters, 2 linguini with blue crab, an olive oil poached halibut, and the gnocchi dish. Everything was basically melt in your mouth perfect, but if I had to rank the textures and flavors of the dishes it would be as follows: #1 olive oil poached halibut (I still drool thinking about this dish), #2 roasted oysters (you can't pass on this), #3 gnocchi (delicious af pillows), and #4 blue crab linguini (al dente done right and light in flavor). Probably my favorite new restaurant of 2020. Eat here. Definitely think it's going to be a hotspot with hard to get rezzies when the world stops melting and we get control of the 'rona. ALL the pasta is handmade. I went twice in two weeks because that foie gras gnocchi doe...Also superb service and it's literally a 5 minute walk from me so how could I not? Apps -Burnt Eggplant: Mediterranean vibes of baba ghanoush/hummus-esque topped with figs and radicchio. Comes with bread. YUM. -Rosemary focaccia: Crispy, chewy, salty. I could eat two plates of this but then there would be no room for pasta. -Shaved Caesar: a fun take on Caesar salad but I could skip this next time. -Autumn Caprese : fresh burrata and basil :] -Porchetta Cubano: not bad but probably my least fave. Other people rave about it though so likely a personal preference. Order two if you have more than 3 people. Pastas -Bucatini with Rabbit Meatballs: Super al dente, nice light meatballs with pecorino -Orecchiette with Sausage and Pesto: Very tasty, definitely on the saltier side (too salty for my friend) but I enjoyed it! -Gnocchi Chicken Ragu: A little softer in texture than other gnocchi but completely decadent and I will likely order this EVERY time I go. That frozen foie gras that they grate over your pasta at the table is divine. -Lamb Agnolotti: Another table favorite. Like beautiful Italian lamb dumplings with the drippings. Woohoo! Indoor dining is back (25% at least as of the date of this review 2/16/21)........ We ate at da Toscano Friday night, first night "King Cuomo" let us back in. Since da Toscano closed shortly after "quarantine", we were happy to be back and show our love and support. Prix fixe dinner at 65. per person can not be beat! What a bargain. We had DELICIOUS pillowy agnolotti with lamb neck drippings.....the most amazing pork chop with potato tortiere......a beet salad with mustard seeds and a celery root Caesar salad..........and the best, lightest, most delicious focaccia ever. Can't say enough nice things about the service. 5 star. Madeleine at the front is the manager and sommelier, who knows her wine....and Sabrina is lovely. I hadn't heard of Da Toscano until during COVID when I kept seeing it show up when I searched for highly rated Italian delivery spots. I never ended up getting the chance to order delivery, but once lockdown ended I finally went ahead and made a reservation for their outdoor dining! Was able to get a Saturday night res the day before on Resy, but do note there's a cancellation fee per person if you don't change or cancel in advance. We arrived right on time and were seated immediately. There were lots of other diners around so would recommend the reservation. Service was super friendly and very attentive. The drinks menu isn't extensive, but I enjoyed my glass of red and my friend said her Frosé packed a punch. For our entrees I got the Gnocchi and my friend the Tortelli. The gnocchi was delicious!! Super light compared to most gnocchis which I actually liked and all the flavors of the sauce were so good and fresh. I finished every bite. My friend loved the tortelli as well, but the portion size was extremely small. She left still hungry so the price doesn't match the size. Was odd considering my gnocchi was such a big portion. The computers were down towards the end of our meal so the waiter brought us complimentary frosés on the house while we waited which was super nice. Speaks to the good service. We are so thankful and happy our son will get to enjoy dinner with us every time we go. Overall a terrific experience! There's a great ambience inside. Good vibes all around, and a good volume as well. The food is outstanding. This place really comes through in terms of flavors. Our server was great! Very attentive, informative, and checked in on us throughout the evening. Apps Carne cruda: a rather small bite, but delicious. If you're ok with the price just to experience the flavor-packed-ness, go for it. Pb&j bombolone: wow! I've honestly had nothing like it. There are so many layers of flavor...you get something a bit different with each bite. It is rather rich, so you only need a few bites. If you like the pbj flavor profile and are somewhat of an adventurous eater, then this is a must try. Roasted oysters: warm, buttery, salty. Just an overall delicious bite. Again lots of flavors going on that marry so well together. Focaccia: don't skip it. The bread is soft with a nice crunch around the edges. And the butter...I could eat it without the bread. Amazingly seasoned Mains Agnolotti: another flavor punch. The warm, almost smooth lamb stuffing melts in your mouth. A very light tomato sauce and melted cheese shavings bring it all together. Garganelli: rich tomato flavor, tasty bites of meat throughout the sauce. Warm and comforting Dessert Tiramisu sundae: honestly the most disappointing thing we ate. It had the general flavor profile of a tiramisu but it kind of fell flat. Aside from the ice cream, all the other add ins are crunchy, so it was missing that creamy softness of a classic tiramisu. I think that's the point of the ice cream, but it doesn't really get the job done. Drinks Overall, the drinks category was OK but could've been better. I had the olive branch martini, followed by a traditional dirty martini. Both were drier than I prefer, even though I ordered the second one extra dirty. They do add a tasty pecorino stuffed olive! My partner tried two of the rose options...both OK. We ended with espresso martinis. Again, they were OK and had an interesting walnut flavor. But we've had better. Overall, we can't wait to go back.
