One of the best Italian restaurants in New York. We had the focaccia, Agnolotti, Orecchiette, Garganelli Verde, and the tiramisu ice cream Sunday. The bread was very flavorful and salty, the pasta as were all super good and very rich, and the tiramisu ice cream was amazing but the lady fingers were not that good. It wasn't a cheap meal (around $200 for two), but we had more than enough food and ordered wine, so it could definitely be more affordable. Would come again and order just the pasta! read more

I feel badly posting a less than great review, however: we made reservations weeks in advance based on all the great reviews. We were seated at the bar on stools that felt so fragile (mine anyway) it would snap at any second. The deal breaker, however, were the blasts of cold air shot at our backs from the poorly designed cooling system. So easy to remedy, why not?! I had to wear my coat during the meal and the folks next to me were equally freezing. The food was ok: the opposite of what is served in Italy, where everything is fresh and very simple. So I think I may have found a new favorite Italian restaurant in the city because I absolutely loved the food here (my sister agreed). Been a while since I honestly enjoyed everything that I ordered at a restaurant, and we ordered quite a bit. The focaccia was so crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the butter was so creamy and indulgent. My favorites were the octopus carpaccio (incredible flavor, so delicious) and the pappardelle (pasta obviously made in house, amazing sauce, texture of the noodles just perfect). Squid ink pasta was good as well and they don't skimp on the crab. Oysters were plump and juicy, but just a tad too salty. Cocktails were great as well. read more

What a great experience. First, the staff was very accommodating with our late evening reservation request, right before a David Sanborn show at the Blue Note around the corner. Everyone was extremely friendly, including the hostess who also took our call over the phone. Our waitress, Jenna, did an excellent job and got us in and out with plenty of time to spare. And the food - wow! This was delicious. I had the Gnocchi, which is comprised of Guanciale, Spinach, Dried Oyster, and Breadcrumbs. It was fantastic, in a light oil and garlic. Had an amazing experience at Da Toscano! This place is easily a top contender for my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Ordered 3 appetizers, 2 pasta dishes, and a dessert for the 2 of us. Ended up having a little less than half of pasta leftover to take home. Foccacia - light and soft with perfect crisp, the butter was a bit too salty but overall paired well with the bread Roasted oysters - came with lots of sauce that was rich and packed with flavor, especially with the added lemon Octopus carpaccio - a MUST GET! The octopus was cooked perfectly and the crispiness of the bread and flavor of the roasted tomatoes paired so well with it. I could eat the octopus alone for the rest of the meal and be content. Pappardelle - the noodles were a nice thin soft texture, the duck was tender with plenty of ragu sauce Squid ink spaghetti - the noodles were cooked a little more Al dente, the jalapeño pesto only had a very subtle spice, and there was plenty of crab to go with it Tiramisu gelato sundae - the perfect end to our meal! Comes with 3 scoops, waffle cone and ladyfingers topped with cocoa powder Service was excellent, the servers wiped down our area in between dishes and ensured we had clean utensils ready to go before each dish, plus they were just enthusiastic overall. I found this place on Tiktok, and was not disappointed with the quality of food and cocktails. i will say that the seating isn't optimal. We made a reservation about 2 weeks ahead of time and were unfortunately seated at the chefs table. My husband is 6'5 and 270 pounds so it was a VERY tight squeeze. I was shopping in SoHo and looking for something to eat for dinner. I came across this restaurant and made a quick reservation. The food and service were excellent. The Black Tagliatelle al Limone with scallops was outstanding--amazing flavors I didn't expect. I probably could have eaten more, but I shared it with my husband. We also had the 16oz Prime Dry Aged Bone-In New York Strip with drippings and garlic butter, which was phenomenal. It was so good, I didn't even need a side. After being able to grab a reservation ahead of time, I was very eager to visit Da Toscano after hearing about the ambiance and great cooking near the Comedy Cellar. The interior space was not what I expected from what I had heard but it was a pleasant surprise, with kitchen views with bar seating throughout. The menu was not very extensive, but each item that we ordered was a hit for the group. We started off with the bread which was a focaccia served with herb butter, an incredible bite to start off the meal. We then chose to go with the tortellini which was served with a side of parmesan, EVOO, and honey, each of which paired very well with the pasta. For the mains, we each ordered pasta for ourselves and very much enjoyed what we ordered. My dish was a pesto-based Orecchiette with a phenomenal flavor unlike any other I had ever had, definitely a must-try. This would be a 5 star review if the service was a bit faster, there was about 25 minutes between when we finished the appetizer before the entrees came out. The restaurant because of how small it is was a little on the loud side which they can't control. The pastas were really tasty and unique. I think the squid ink had the most wow factor both in terms of presentation and flavors. I didn't taste that much pesto and it wasn't a very sauce heavy pasta which was nice. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and I'd definitely order that again. The papardelle with the shaved foie gras, was the little extra zing that an otherwise normal pasta dish would need. It really pushed it over the top and surprised me. The gnudi was odd, had good flavor but I wasn't a fan of the texture, but that's just my preference since it's so soft. The morelle mushrooms were amazing as well. There was also some magic going on with the crab fat butter flavor in the oysters and I don't event like oysters. Would definitely go again with a rez. First of all, with a bar upfront and an open kitchen in the back, the dimly lit space is perfect for date night. Beverage director and manager, Madeline, will make you feel right at home with her friendly and charming personality. Next, you'll discover a menu full of interesting items that you want to try. From apps like Roasted Oysters in Crab Fat Butter to PB & J Bombolone (donut) stuffed with foie gras, the starters will wet your appetite for more. Personally, my favorite appetizer so far has been the amazing Octopus Carpaccio. Honestly, I can't think of a octopus dish in the city that I want more right now. Haven't had many entrees or sides so far, but the Lobster & Bone Marrow Crusted Beef Rib with a side of Roasted Corn was quite good. However, the like I said before, their pasta is where the magic happens. Rarely do I ever order non-meat or seafood pastas because it rarely ever blows my mind. However, beginning with the Fazzoletti suggested by Sous Chef Aaron on my first visit, I gladly eat my words along with all that deliciousness. The earthiness of the chanterelle mushrooms combined with the crisp sweet corn, both smothered by the rich and creamy ricotta, played wonders on my taste buds. On my second visit, staring at the house signature Agnoloti, I was about to take the plunge when our server recommended a perfect summer pasta. Realizing it may not be a permanent menu item, we decided to order that. Boy! Were we glad we did, the Linguine was spectacular. The flavors of cherry tomatoes, lemon leaf and basil was light and refreshing. To our surprise, Chef de Cuisine William Tuggle also sent out a free plate of Torttellini, which would have been likely one of the last pastas I would consider ordering. Guess what? Totally would have missed out on these deletable little pasta purses full of sunchoke and robiola in aged balasmic, with sprinkles of chopped hazelnuts. What can I say, three pastas with no meat or seafood, and I loved every one of them. That fact in itself is very impressive. Really solid, traditional, red-sauce Italian fare in the heart of the West Village. The menu isn't as adventurous or expansive as other Italian restaurants in this neighborhood but I don't think anyone ever left here dissatisfied. First, the green salad was perhaps the best I've ever eaten and yes, I realize how basic that makes me sound. This blew Via Carota's version out of the water. I could definitely eat this every day. Portion was big enough to share between two people as an appetizer and paired really well with the entrees. The pastas are definitely the thing to order here, as indicated by how little real estate on the menu was devoted to non-pasta options. (Also, if you're coming to any Italian restaurant, it should be a cardinal rule that you order at least one pasta dish.) I ordered the garganelli verde - good meaty sauce, not so heavy as to make you want to unbutton your jeans and waddle out of there. I had a bite of my friend's lamb agnolotti, which was a bit too rich for my taste. Also had some of the Parmesan veal - I highly recommend eating this first as soon as it's brought to the table, because the sauce and the cheese congealed a little after it sits for a while. My favorite Italian restaurant (sorry to all the L'Artusi/Via Carota/Torrisi loyalists). EVERYTHING is delicious, and honestly pretty unique as far as Italian goes. We ordered 60% of the items on the menu, so we got to try a great assortment of dishes. Recap below: Apps: Focaccia - fluffy and delicious Octopus carpaccio - I liked this, but it comes thinly sliced. I think I just like a thicker cut of octopus better. PB&J bomobolone: SO unique, and perfect balance of savory and sweet Braised artichokes: low key one of my fave things on the menu Little gem salad: again, pretty unique. I've never seen a "walnut pesto" prepped this way. Pasta Papparadelle - so good we ordered 2 Tortellini - this was my friend's fave but I'd say this was my least favorite of the pastas. Still tasty though. Orecchiette - FAVORITE. I'm a pesto gal, so I loved this. Garganelli bolognese - liked it, but liked the papparadelle better Fazzoletti short rib - super delish too. But I still think I liked the papparadelle the best of the "meatier" dishes. Mains Garlic butter stuffed chicken: crispy skin, amazing flavors and juicy chicken Branzino: the scampi sauce was delish, and the branzino was topped with rock shrimp. Good flavors. Absolutely the very best homemade pasta I have ever had! The flavors were delicious the pasta noodles light and tender and beautifully presented. I was fortunate enough to stumble across this hidden gem while waiting for a friend to join me at the theater next door. The manager Michelle was incredibly accommodating she managed to squeeze me in for a drink before the show and my friend and I returned to dine when the show is over. The area around Washington Square Park has no shortage of excellent Italian restaurants. Da Toscano may get lost in the shuffle, but the food is excellent and on par with the areas other offerings. However, on our visit we found the service to not be on that same par. While no major complaints and the staff worked hard, it was slow. It seems like a small kitchen and on a packed Saturday night it makes sense that they could get backed up. Also, note that we sat at the back of the restaurant right under the air conditioner which got pretty chilly after a 2+ hour meal. Food wise everything was top notch; Octopus Carpaccio - don't often see this on menus and it was excellent. PB&J Bombolone - an Italian donut filled with foi gras, shallot jam, quince, and sesame butter. An excellent combination of sweet and savory, highly recommend. Focaccia - baked warm and fresh, the taleggio butter was a highlight. Orecchiette - this was a very good pasta, the sweet Italian sausage accompanied by the pickled cherry pepper give it a nice kick. Braised Artichokes - we've never had artichokes this good. Simply prepared in a white wine garlic broth accompanied by bread crumbs, excellent. Squid Ink Spaghetti - another very good pasta dish, highlight was the salami calabrese. Pappardelle - with duck ragu and shaved foie gras. Our favorite pasta dish and one of the best pastas in NYC (in our opinion). There is a sweetness to this pasta which we were not excepting and it's awesome. We got five dishes: - Funghi Misti Bruschetta: it had a sweet taste and the mushroom added so much texture to it - Roasted oysters: I know many people here praised about this dish, but I think it was yummy but not memorable - Pappardelle: the texture of the pappardelle was so soft and had the right thickness. The sauce was actually lighter than I thought. Food: 11/10 probably one of, if not the best Italian food I have had in New York so far. For appetizers: Ordered the focaccia bread which had the perfect slight crisp on the outside, and super soft on the inside accompanied with the creamiest butter. Although we were at the chefs table which is a super tight space, the waiters do a great job to try and accommodate all your plates in your area, and take away plates as quickly as possible/replace cutlery. As mentioned, I sat in the chefs table which felt pretty squished and you will likely rub elbows with the person next to you. Well, there's nothing bad to say about this place, but I will say that I feel like the reviews oversell this place a bit. The focaccia was nice, the artichoke appetizer was okay, I would have liked to have tried the octopus but they were out. Then we had pastas. The portions were on the smaller side, and the sauces seem to be pretty "fat forward", as my wife describe them. It was late at night so I went with the late night staple of aglio, olio e peperoncino, in this case served on angel hair. I was expecting something a little more traditional, but theirs has a reddish tint to it and has a lot of what you might call parmesan chips spread throughout it, giving it a crunchy texture. No fresh parsley, and the garlic just wasn't super apparent like one expects in this dish. Portion on this one was also pretty small. I guess I'll just finish up by saying if you like traditional Italian food, which I do, I feel like this place is going for the modernized spin on it with the chef's individual take. I'm happy that so many people seem to like it, but if you are after a more traditional Italian meal, I would say you might want to choose a different spot. read more
