Dai Sushi, you failed us. Service: Although friendly, we were informed by the wait staff they were in their "soft opening" even after 2 months? Service was slow even though it was just us and another table. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean, but one of the chefs was constantly sneezing in the sushi bar area. Gasp! And to top it off his shirt was dingy. THE FOOD: We should have known the moment they slid that artificial green blob of wasabi onto our table it was going to be ALL BAD. Quality and freshness was lacking. * Shishito peppers - over cooked and burned. Peppers were old batch * Assorted sushi - blue fin tuna, salmon, Japanese scallop, yellow tail, amber jack. Not fresh. Trust! * Yellow tail sashimi - chewier than a bubble yum gum * Blue crab HR - the avocado was spoiled to a brown color. But why Chef?? * My hot water tasted like there was Chlorine Beyond highly disappointed. Been going here ever since they opened. Always been exceptional especially with 50% off selected nigiri. Love the decor of their restaurant. Always blown away by the quality of the fish especially for the price. Favorites I recommend would be the black cod nigiri, salmon belly nigiri, scallop nigiri, waygu, bluefin tuna, and their toro. It had a very generic, chain restaurant feel and no personal interactions with the sushi chefs. The food was average and the music too loud as if trying too hard to be a fun spot. Service was fantastic. //CONTEXT// I found this place on Yelp and was craving sushi. We have our go to spots for sushi rolls and for nigiri. I saw they were having half off sushi and it looked good in photos. We came on a Saturday evening at 6 pm and it was pretty busy! //FOOD// * Salmon Skin Salad: this was my favorite part of the meal! I would highly recommend this salad - flavorful, a yummy savory and bright dressing and crispy salmon skin! So yummy! * Huntington roll: this roll had spicy tiny and shrimp tempura, asparagus and salmon. A good tempura roll normally has a nice slight crispy to it - the texture on this was so soggy. The tempura tasted like it wasn't fried and wet, and everything just blended together. * Japanese scallop: my favorite sushi nigiri of the night! Super plump and yummy yuzu on top! Definitely worth it * Amberjack and sea bream: these both tasted chewy, and not like any I've had before where it just melts in your mouth. * Salmon belly: good but again, didn't melt in my Mouth like salmon belly normally does. * Miso Cod Sushi: good and wrapped in seaweed as they call "battleship" style but the seaweed lost its crunch by the time we got it and was soggy //PRICE// $60 after tax //SERVICE// Fantastic but the girls didn't seem to know the different with white fish. Honestly I don't blame them since white fish can be confusing and they just opened. My sister has been RAVING about DAI Sushi. It's honestly such a hidden gem. When we came in (about 1:45 pm) it was not busy at all and we got seated right away! The staff were mostly Korean and they were all super friendly with one another as well with the customers! The restaurant was so comfortable and had a great vibe + well decorated! Keep in mind, they do have the AC on most of the time so it gets a little cold, but I always run hot so I was thriving to say the least. As soon as I saw that they had a mental cream pasta on their menu, I KNEW that I just had to order it and it did not disappoint. The udon noodles were chewy and not over cooked. You could taste the kick of the mentaiko in the creamy sauce and the seaweed and extra mentai on top really complimented the dish beautifully. I was starving so I had to order the karaage and it really left me satisfied. The chicken was marinated well and that sauce......I wish there was more of it (but I bet they would give more if you asked). The baked mussels were a nice surprise as well. I'm not the biggest fan of mussels in general, but I could've eaten all 5 of them. The texture was chewy, but not rubbery and it tasted like high quality mussels, so don't worry about getting sick from it and I would recommend giving them a try!! There was a small mistake with one of my friend's order so they prepared her a new one in minutes AND they gave us a baked scallop type roll on the house to compensate, which was so sweet of them! My friends are from Japan, so to eat at a Japanese place in California is kind of tricky since the quality and accuracy of taste can be off. But needless to say, they finished everything and we all gave it a 10/10 If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant that not only passes the vibe check, but also provides delicious, quality food, then DAI sushi is the place to go!! read more

Very disappointed... TWICE. I see all the reviews about the great sushi but unfortunately I never got the chance to try it. We showed up the first time at about 920 (10pm close) and were told last call was at 9:15. It took us by surprise, but we respected their business model and asked what time we needed to be there by next time. We were told by 9:15. We showed up the other night at 9:12. Left the kids with the babysitter and busted our butts down there, only to be told, "Sorry we're closed for the night. We're sold out of fish". As I spoke with him my husband walked up to the sushi chef and asked if we could place a to go order and he said no, you have to ask the manager (same guy we're already talking to). I stepped past the hostess booth to look at the sushi bar with both displays fully loaded with sushi. I said "you've got to be kidding me. You're out of fish yet, both displays are completely loaded?" He said, "we're out of special fish that's just the regular fish." I said you've got to be joking me?" He said a lot of our customers had complained that we were out of special fish. My husband said, so can we have a to go order then? We don't care about "special fish". If the restaurant was truly out of the main essentials, I would respect that and move on, however, this was absolutely ridiculous, especially being the second time we were turned away. As soon as I questioned it, he was reaching for lies left and right. He is also a manager of the establishment. When my husband said we don't care about "special fish" he told us nervously, oh, OK, well, then yes you can have a to go order. At that point I said I was overwhelmingly disappointed and didn't want to give them our business. Luckily, we found another wonderful establishment we ended up spending $140 at. I'm truly bummed as I really wanted to experience the supposed goodness all these comments rave about. With the shady, beat around the bush, lying left and right, we'll just have to fulfill our fix elsewhere. If an owner ever reads this, I truly hope you make changes. We spend a good amount of our budget on sushi but certainly won't be recommending this place. read more

I came here last week. Walking up to the door there was a sign "50% off sushi" I was like hell yea!! All employees were wearing shirts that said 50% off sushi. So I was looking at the menu, I get Philly rolls, I know basic, but they were 11.99 & im like wow that's a lil pricey but 50% off sounds more reasonable. We ordered 2 phillys, my man got 2 rolls, we got 2 orders of gyozas & a Sapporo. I talked to our server about the 50% off, he said it'll be like that forever but he didn't specify if it was on certain items so when our bill came out to about 100 I was shocked!!! The Philly rolls were good, but you can't really mess up a Philly roll they're so basic. For that price not really worth it tbh. read more
