After reading the horrible reviews of this restaurant, I decided to try it anyway. There aren't many Chinese food restaurants in my area. My mistake. We placed an order to be picked up. Szechuan Beef and Sesame Chicken. The Szechuan Beef was described as pieces of breaded steak, deep fried and covered with Szechuan sauce. We received small pieces of tough steak, no breading and more sauce than steak. It was edible though. The Sesame Chicken, was the disappointing one. We received a box of breaded chicken bits and a cup of ketchup. I called the restaurant to inform them that they forgot to put the sesame chicken sauce in the bag or on the chicken and they told me that the cup of ketchup was the sesame sauce. It was ketchup. SOOOO bad! Tasted horrible! My family was disappointed. I WILL NEVER WASTE MY MONEY AT THAT PLACE AGAIN!!!!! read more

I love this place. It is a very specific kind of place - it reminds you of the stereotypical Chinese restaurants of the 70s, the kind with dragon boat murals on the walls and other such nostalgia. If you like Chinese food that transports you to the heart of Beijing with every bite this is the place for you. Every bite had me in a whirl wind of flavor. The crab puffs tasted as if the crab was stuffed that morning. My taste buds were swimming in a deep sea of flavor. The decore is of a simpler time when you could sit down and enjoy your Kung pao chicken and enjoy the bright shine of a brass Buddha shrine at the front desk. This place has made Hillsboro a culinary hot spot on par with great culinary cities around the world. If there are any remains of this world 1,000,000 years from now let it be dancing dragon. OK, yes this place is a bit of dive. It's older, a bit rough around the edges and run down some. But, all in all, I keep come back here for Chinese food. Why? Because it's predictable. I know the food is exactly the same each time and it's good. I love their crab puffs, and the rest is pretty standard fare. I've never gotten bad food here. It's always quiet (dead), the waitress is always sitting in the front booth, etc. But I've been coming here for about ten years and it's always been that same way. It's like the neighborhood bar - kinda dirty, kinda sleazy, but everyone keeps going to it anyways. Someone else mentioned the yummy eggrolls. Myself, I can't stand them, but to each their own. My addiction here is those darn crabpuffs and the red sauce. :) Decent prices, reliable food. Hard to beat that these days and well-worth looking past the worn down decor. read more

So, we ate at Dancing Dragon several times in the past, and I noticed several months ago the place had closed, oh well, it was really only OK anyway. However, I noticed the grand opening sign last weekend, I had some time to kill with my son, so we stopped in for dinner. The staff was very friendly, the food was good, and the price was very reasonable. We split the sweet and sour chicken and kung pao chicken combo plate, it was less than $10, for a very nice portion of food, it was more than enough to feed us both. If you're looking for reasonably priced Chinese food in Hillsboro, this place should do the trick. read more

We are new to Hillsboro and were eager to try the restaurants around our neighborhood. We ordered take out from Dancing Dragon and could not have been more disappointed. I ordered the "sesame chicken" and decided to pay the extra $1.00 for the pork fried rice. My husband ordered shredded pork with water chestnuts (or something like that). He also paid extra for the fried rice as well. $19.95 later, we got our food home and we dismayed at the pathetic excuse for sesame chicken. It was hard as a rock; even though it was still warm. There was not a trace of sesame seeds or the typical sweet or spicy sauce that goes on the chicken. The chicken was stringy and just down right bad. My husband and I both ordered fried rice and received only a small size container of rice to share- not close to enough to be a side dish for each of us. I'm hoping they just forgot the other container of rice because this was not enough for two adults- especially considering that we paid extra for the fried rice. We did not eat the sesame chicken and only shared to small rice and my husband's pork (which was not that great either). I wish we had taken the food back for a refund, but it was late and we were both tired from work. I download Yelp especially to write this review. I've never been so disappointed by a Chinese restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go to any of the other four Chinese take out restaurants within a five mile radius. read more

I have been going to the Dancing Dragon since it first opened and it has gone downhill so much. Their food used to be the best around but it isn't any more. And if you complain ( comment) they just nod their head and say, 'sorry.' They don't GET that people are complaining and are unhappy with it. We have done take out and stopped for dinner tonight. We have been faithful customers of this restaurant for at least 30 years, remained so throughout their rebuild after the fire when they were closed for months. We order takeout a few times every month since they reopened and were generally satisfied with the food and the service. The food is average standard Chinese restaurant fare, nothing spectacular but good and their fried shrimp and egg drop soup have been favorites. However, two nights ago we ordered takeout. It came out in a plastic bag tied up so didn't see how badly the contents had been put sideways in the bag, some of the dishes with a lot of "gravy" or liquid in them. By the time we got home, the contents had spilled everywhere and I do mean everywhere....all over the carpeting in the car, all over me when I picked it up and it dripped out a stream all the way into the house. It was a complete mess with box contents spilled out inside the bottom of the plastic bag. Had they only packaged it correctly that would not have happened. Called to discuss with them...they were rude, really rude as a matter of fact, refused a refund to my credit card and said only they would replace the meal. Well I wasn't able to come back out that night (and frankly shouldn't have had to), but finally settled on I would pick it up the next day but I was to call head of my coming to get it. When I got there the next day, the lady recognized me, and said "just a minute" and went into the kitchen. When she emerged she had my food in a box and rudely said "we put it in a BOX for you this time OKAY?" Her tone and manner were completely inappropriate under the circumstances. I politely thanked her. When I got home with the food, it was pretty clear it was not fresh, was probably made up the night before when i called...the sweet and sour chicken pieces were like rocks, and absolutely swimming in red sauce, and there was no rice. I chose not to contact her again. Dancing Dragon has lost my business forever....as well as that of my very extended family who frequent this restaurant but don't throw good money after bad for service like this. I'm pretty disappointed in them, but TBH, I can get better service, not to mention better food at Panda Express and don't have to deal with issues like this. In fact, after we had a problem at PE about a year ago, they were WONDERFUL....not only refunded our meal but replaced it as well. And THAT is what keeps customers coming back....Dancing Dragon should take a lesson. Won't ever return to DD.... read more

As a person who travels around the country on business, I have had a lot of chinese food in 40 years and seriously, if I had been at home I would have put this in the slop bucket for the pigs. One word: beware! If only I had read the reviews before going there. Now I'm ashamed to even admit it, but we hadn't had Chinese food for a long time and, thinking that all old school Chinese food places like this were the same, we ended up there last Sunday. We ordered egg rolls to share and a combo each. First the egg rolls: we just expected the normal crispy on the outside, full of veggies and great for dipping little appetizers that you can get everywhere, even the grocery store. Nope! What they brought us were more the size of fast food burritos, fried and greasy on the outside, mostly doughy on the inside with a little bit of mushy, slightly greenish stuff with a hint of curry flavor (vegetables???) ... GROSS! and just weird. Next the combos... my husband got the subgum with sweet and sour chicken, I got the kung pao with sweet and sour pork, and both came with fried rice. He said the subgum was ok, but both of our sweet and sour dishes (exactly the same btw) were doughy, undercooked and mostly globs of batter (not sure what was inside). I could only eat about 1/3 of the kung pao they served me, because it was so spicy-yet flavorless, even mixing the sweet and sour sauce didn't help! The peanuts were soggy, the "chicken" was mushy, the sauce was thick and starchy...there was nothing fresh about it. Thankfully, we didn't finish our meals and didn't take a box for our dog because I've been sick for 2 days (ugh, really sick - details not necessary), and I hate to think how much worse it may have been if I had eaten more. This place is ok if you want to lose a few pounds, but definitely - - not recommended! read more
