We were seated at a long table in the back of the restaurant which offered a sense of more private dining space while still being part of the restaurant. Dark/moody ambiance with some nice unique decor. This place is most famous for their drinks, which were all very unique and stunning in presentation. I got the Garibaldi drink for $15 (with their "fluffy" orange juice and Campari - it was very cute and delicious!) the foam on the top was very fun to drink. For food we shared their burrata (very yummy!) and I got the bucatini pasta ($28), which was a slightly spicy tomato-forward pasta with long noodles. It was delicious but the portion was way too small for the price in my opinion - in retrospect I would've gotten another pasta with more protein. read more

Dante is a lovely small (and busy!) restaurant on MacDougal street with another location a few blocks up in the West Village. The menu at this location is different than WV and focuses on Italian-style food. It's busy and loud, so plan accordingly. Drinks are outstanding - I love the Cosmo Spritz and Espresso Martini. To eat, you must begin with the Burrata (very fresh and flavorful), and the Focaccia is also a must. I had the Cannelloni as my entree, which was perfect. I appreciate the smaller portions here so you can try more items...but I do think it's a bit overpriced. I wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu, but at least the options I do have were tasty. For dessert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was my personal favorite, and the Carrot Cqke takes close second. The Chocolate Cake was a tad underwhelming. Dante's truly is a must, and I may make it my goal to try everyone's cocktail on the menu - I just wish it wasn't as crowded and pricey! read more

Not sure what the hype is all about here. The cocktails are well made but the interior/ambiance isn't much to write home about - it's fairly ordinary and pretty crowded so not super comfortable. Famous for their Negronis so we tried the Negroni on tap and a mezcal Negroni. I think they're good if you like Negronis though I don't fall into that category (I find them too bitter). I could tell they were still better than most Negronis elsewhere though and very smooth. The aperol spritz on tap was nice and refreshing. We also got a side of focaccia, which wasn't bad. One of my favorite places to go to in the city, for brunch, drinks or dinner! I've been many times but for brunch, I like getting their croissant and/or homemade banana bread to share and avocado toast for main. Their Negronis are very good. For dinner, their burrata is very good. I also enjoyed bucatini, linguine al frutti, and branzino. For dessert, their tiramisu was very very good and I liked the apple galette as well. I was really excited to try Dante! I came here for brunch with a friend and was so impressed with the ambiance- the location is really pretty, and the art by Riley Sheehey everywhere is gorgeous (especially the seasonal coasters which are pretty enough to want to keep!). We started with the Oaxacan sunrise and Garibaldi, both of which have Dante's famous "fluffy" juice. We had high expectations because of Dante's reputation and were honestly a bit disappointed. Both were extremely spirit-forward- I felt like the only taste in the Garibaldi was Campari. The food far outshone the drinks, especially the baked goods- they are a smaller section of the menu but absolutely should not be passed by! Those were our favorites. Both the cranberry scone and croissant with prosciutto and Asiago came out hot and fresh and both were exceptional, the quality was what I'd expect from one of NYC's many incredible bakeries. For our main courses, we got the breakfast flatbread and baked eggs- I asked to sub the poached egg for scrambled, which they did (which I appreciated). It was good, but definitely needed a big pinch of salt and it felt a little sparse overall. Visited Dante during my most recent NYC trip because I saw it on North America's Top 50 Bars! Dante was TOO good. I came here at least 3 times throughout my trip. One being reservations, the other 2 were just walk ins. I came strictly for drinks so this review will not include food... except the free tiramisu that I got to try because I came to celebrate a birthday (which was rich and creamy... chef's kiss) Let me tell you, the HH prices are such a win. Although I believe the HH drinks are only Negronis. Every drink I've had here was great and I can see why Dante deserves a spot on Top 50 bars list. They are best known for their Negroni's but I promise every other drink you order will hold its own. Can't wait to come back to NYC and include this in my itinerary again! Dante's was such a nice Friday night treat! Keep in mind this is a smaller restaurant and very popular, so we had to book at least 2 weeks in advance. Regardless, the cocktails and pasta were outstanding! The Spring 2024 was my favorite (seasonal so try it out soon) with the yogurt smeared on the outside edges. The clarified pina colada pictured was also very unique- try that if you have an affinity for sweeter cocktails. If you are a fan of the creamier, more savory pastas I would recommend the orecchiette and if you love red sauce you can't go wrong with the Ragu. I think they do a really great job with classic drinks, and spinoffs of them, but less so experimental/super out there/creative takes on drinks. We had an initial snafu with our reservation in the beginning and they sat us at the bar top and gave us our first drink on the menu there, but then afterwards our table cleared up and we were seated promptly. I came in planning to just get one drink but had to capitalize on the opportunity and ended up getting another. For the first round I tried the plum sazerac and a friend got the Appletini. I came here for a friend's birthday. The vines are immaculate. The bar is beautiful. The aesthetic is on point. Although I didn't get a drink, I would happily come back to get one! The cheese with the Smokey meat and then the fresh herbs, the size was very good, BUT IT WAS BURNED. And I'm not one to get annoyed by this but because it was a flatbread, the crust itself was so thin that the burnt flatbread consumed a lot of the taste. Unfortunately every bite started to become overwhelmed with the burnt charcoal. Big bummer. Pesto Pasta I can't comment on the taste of the pasta, but one of my friends is gluten free and got the pasta and said some of her noodles were still so undercooked they were crunchy... that's very unappetizing. My other friends did enjoy the pasta though. Margarita Flatbread My friend liked her flatbread but said it was a bit undercooked. Very inconsistent with the oven time I guess... Apple Tart: 7/10 I thought the crust was flakey but overall too dry. You couldn't easily get a bite with the filling and the pastry because the filling was lumpy and chunky while the pastry wouldn't cut easily. Tiramisu: 7/10 Average tiramisu. It was too wet from the espresso. There were liquid dripping out the bottom. Our waitress was also kind of rude. It felt like she didn't want to be there and just wanted us to hurry up and order and leave. We also came for a birthday, which was on the Resy, and if there wasn't a comment made at the very end, the waitress wasn't going to acknowledge it at all. I hate when you put on the Resy and pick one restaurant out of hundreds and they don't acknowledge it unless you specifically ask for a mere candle. Overall, I enjoyed my time because my friends were there and we were celebrating a birthday. The vibes were very nice for us to sit and talk. We stopped by for cocktails on Friday. I was in town to celebrate my soon to be SIL's bachelorette. I got the seasonal rockmelon 75, and this was my favorite cocktail of the whole weekend! I love a French 75 and their take is a great summer refresher. There was a bit of a wait since they only take reservations if you are eating, but it was well worth it! There are tables outside that helps during the warmer weather. The food selection is decent, with many classic Italian dishes. However, it's quite overpriced with not the best quality. Considering it was a holiday, I was very surprised they were able to squeeze us in on the counter. I'm so glad they did because I loved the drinks here. I ended up getting a blood orange spritz. It was so good. It had depth. There was a sweetness and a bit of bitterness to it. My friends got other drinks, and I ended up sipping a bit of the espresso martini and seasonal Bellini. We initially stopped in for two things, to pee and a coffee (that order). Had been out walking and I needed to go..... but it was time to also take a rest and have some coffee. It was a lovely day in New York and as we passed by it looked quite inviting. There were people sitting at the outdoor tables having lunch (though we had recently stuffed ourselves with a huge brunch). I asked the server at the door if we could be seated just for coffee, she told us no problem if we didn't mind the coffee bar. Great! It was nice sitting near the open door with the bit of breeze and also being able to watch the barista whip up coffees. Of course I made a be-line to the loo, then I could think about ordering a latte. We ordered lovely looking and frothy creamy tasting lattes (mine with almond milk). So nice and easy to sit and soak in the cafe vibe. I'd love to come back and do a lunch or even an afternoon snack and coffee when I'm not so full from breakfast as the pastries looked good too. I came here during their negroni sessions (3-5pm) where select negroni and negroni variations are $10. They have a small bar area and I waited for about 30 minutes for a seat at the bar. Dante was recently ranked one of the top bars in the world so I definitely wanted to check it out. If it wasn't obvious, their specialty is negroni. My first drink was the chocolate negroni ($10) which was delicious. Campari is an acquired taste for some and I'm glad I've acquired it. My second drink was the negroni on tap ($10) which might've been the best negroni I've ever had in my life. I asked the bartender and he said that they up the gin and lower the Campari so it's not as bitter and I might have to start doing that at home. The bartender also said that they make 27L of it every two days and they actually go through all of it that quickly. My third drink was the clarified piña colada ($18) which was not your typical piña colada with the creaminess and sweetness. It was much more tame, smooth, and savory. I was told it made with a blend of rums and infused with coconut flakes. I want to give a shoutout to my bartender Eloy who was amazing and who I had great conversations with. He told me about all these different tidbits about their negronis that provided great insights and a great experience here. read more

Heard great things about Dante's drinks so we gave it a try. We only had to wait about 10 minutes outside at 7pm to be seated at the bar. Not too bad at all. The bar is dimly lit and has good vibes. Our bartender was super nice and attentive. I opted for the espresso martini and my husband got a Negroni. They have a huge menu for Negronis and each sounded so good. While the drinks are tasty, they all aren't "hand made". There are different large containers that hold each drink under the bar. [Negroni hour review] Dante is named as one of the top 50 best bars in the world, and they definitely deserve the award. I went here for Negroni hour, around 3:30pm on a Monday, and it was not too crowded, by comparison to a weekend. Negroni hour means $10 negronis for most of the menu, which is great as they are strong and of great value. I got the Negroni Bianco which has a nice flower garnish on top, matching the aesthetics of the place. The ratios of the alcohol was perfect and it was very easy to drink. The cup is placed in a beautifully drawn paper coaster, pretty enough that I kept one. They also give a postcard that looks pretty cute, when you pay the bill. A plus is that there is a live band playing for about 15 minutes when I was there, which adds to the ambience. The ambience of this place itself is very modern, light, and floral. Service is a bit more hands off, but you get what you need at the bar. read more
