Dante is iconic for a reason, and while I'd only been to the West Village location before, this was my first time at the MacDougal Street outpost, Caffe Dante--a smaller, more intimate space with that same warm, old-school charm. We arrived about 10-15 minutes late for our reservation & almost lost our table, so definitely don't push your luck on timing here! The space is cozy, stylish, and buzzing with energy--exactly what you'd expect from a modern take on a historic NYC cafe. I tried the non-alcoholic espresso shakerato, and it was surprisingly complex & refreshing--kind of like an espresso martini meets fresh orange juice with a hint of vanilla. Definitely an interesting & unexpected mix. For food, we shared the Shrimp Aglio e Olio, which was light but flavorful, with tender Pacific prawns, crispy garlic flakes, a kick of Calabrian chili, and perfectly toasted potato sourdough. Bonus: it's naturally dairy-free & can be made gluten-free. Fun fact: The original Caffe Dante opened in 1915, back when the Village was home to a large Italian immigrant community--something I didn't know before! Not sure what the hype is all about here. The cocktails are well made but the interior/ambiance isn't much to write home about - it's fairly ordinary and pretty crowded so not super comfortable. Famous for their Negronis so we tried the Negroni on tap and a mezcal Negroni. I think they're good if you like Negronis though I don't fall into that category (I find them too bitter). I could tell they were still better than most Negronis elsewhere though and very smooth. The aperol spritz on tap was nice and refreshing. We also got a side of focaccia, which wasn't bad. Came here for dinner to celebrate a friend's bachelorette and had a great time. We were seated at a long table in the back of the restaurant which offered a sense of more private dining space while still being part of the restaurant. Dark/moody ambiance with some nice unique decor. This place is most famous for their drinks, which were all very unique and stunning in presentation. I got the Garibaldi drink for $15 (with their "fluffy" orange juice and Campari - it was very cute and delicious!) the foam on the top was very fun to drink. For food we shared their burrata (very yummy!) and I got the bucatini pasta ($28), which was a slightly spicy tomato-forward pasta with long noodles. Dante is a lovely small (and busy!) restaurant on MacDougal street with another location a few blocks up in the West Village. The menu at this location is different than WV and focuses on Italian-style food. It's busy and loud, so plan accordingly. Drinks are outstanding - I love the Cosmo Spritz and Espresso Martini. To eat, you must begin with the Burrata (very fresh and flavorful), and the Focaccia is also a must. I had the Cannelloni as my entree, which was perfect. I appreciate the smaller portions here so you can try more items...but I do think it's a bit overpriced. I wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu, but at least the options I do have were tasty. For dessert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was my personal favorite, and the Carrot Cqke takes close second. The Chocolate Cake was a tad underwhelming. Dante's truly is a must, and I may make it my goal to try everyone's cocktail on the menu - I just wish it wasn't as crowded and pricey! read more

One of my favorite places to go to in the city, for brunch, drinks or dinner! I've been many times but for brunch, I like getting their croissant and/or homemade banana bread to share and avocado toast for main. Their Negronis are very good. For dinner, their burrata is very good. I also enjoyed bucatini, linguine al frutti, and branzino. For dessert, their tiramisu was very very good and I liked the apple galette as well. My friend and I came on a Saturday for a dinner the reservation was made through Resy for outside dining. We arrived 15 minutes early and asked if we could get a drink at the bar. The hostess would not even let us in the door and told us they were too busy. Never heard a of place turning away additional business. We waited 10 minutes while others without reservations seemingly were seated ahead of us. Hostess finally acknowledges us again( while we waited in the sidewalk) and says she'd love to get us started with drinks at a table. Meantime we HAD a dinner resy! She was like "well we just have you down for the bar" I had to show her my phone to prove we had a dinner reservation. The whole time we were not invited inside. Almost like they were blocking the door. Finally in a frustrated tone she said "well you can just have this table pointing at one in the outside seating area." It was so cramped, my chair was pressed up against the back wall with cars whizzing behind me. We ordered 2 cocktails which were watered down and terrible. We were so frustrated at this point we ordered flatbread (basically it was raw) and asparagus and got the heck out of there. We will not be back. read more

I have been dying to go here! It's sooo cute! The interior is great! Service was a bit slow with getting drinks but food came out very quickly! This location does not have a happy hour. I got a dirty martini and I love the presentation of the drink and how you can pour as much olive juice as you want. The olives were great! To eat we got the crudo, focaccia and little gem salad. The crudo was amazing. So light and refreshing. I also loved the little gem salad, very refreshing and I love the crunch! Focaccia was good. I was really excited to try Dante! I came here for brunch with a friend and was so impressed with the ambiance- the location is really pretty, and the art by Riley Sheehey everywhere is gorgeous (especially the seasonal coasters which are pretty enough to want to keep!). We started with the Oaxacan sunrise and Garibaldi, both of which have Dante's famous "fluffy" juice. We had high expectations because of Dante's reputation and were honestly a bit disappointed. Both were extremely spirit-forward- I felt like the only taste in the Garibaldi was Campari. The food far outshone the drinks, especially the baked goods- they are a smaller section of the menu but absolutely should not be passed by! Those were our favorites. Both the cranberry scone and croissant with prosciutto and Asiago came out hot and fresh and both were exceptional, the quality was what I'd expect from one of NYC's many incredible bakeries. For our main courses, we got the breakfast flatbread and baked eggs- I asked to sub the poached egg for scrambled, which they did (which I appreciated). It was good, but definitely needed a big pinch of salt and it felt a little sparse overall. Visited Dante during my most recent NYC trip because I saw it on North America's Top 50 Bars! Dante was TOO good. I came here at least 3 times throughout my trip. One being reservations, the other 2 were just walk ins. I came strictly for drinks so this review will not include food... except the free tiramisu that I got to try because I came to celebrate a birthday (which was rich and creamy... chef's kiss) Let me tell you, the HH prices are such a win. Although I believe the HH drinks are only Negronis. Every drink I've had here was great and I can see why Dante deserves a spot on Top 50 bars list. They are best known for their Negroni's but I promise every other drink you order will hold its own. Can't wait to come back to NYC and include this in my itinerary again! Dante's was such a nice Friday night treat! Keep in mind this is a smaller restaurant and very popular, so we had to book at least 2 weeks in advance. Regardless, the cocktails and pasta were outstanding! The Spring 2024 was my favorite (seasonal so try it out soon) with the yogurt smeared on the outside edges. The clarified pina colada pictured was also very unique- try that if you have an affinity for sweeter cocktails. If you are a fan of the creamier, more savory pastas I would recommend the orecchiette and if you love red sauce you can't go wrong with the Ragu. The meat was super tender and full of flavor and the pastas came out steaming hot. Will definitely be back! read more

I think they do a really great job with classic drinks, and spinoffs of them, but less so experimental/super out there/creative takes on drinks. Their cocktail menu is largely familiar and their Brooklyn Cocktail was super well balanced, nice and sweet, and sippable with very quality ingredients. Really enjoyed it and you could sense the care taken to it. Also got the fried seafood appetizer with calamari which had a nice light frittery fry with fresh lime to squeeze on top for some acidity. We had an initial snafu with our reservation in the beginning and they sat us at the bar top and gave us our first drink on the menu there, but then afterwards our table cleared up and we were seated promptly. The Thanksgiving dinner menu was perfect. Great value for $125. The served everything family style and you could just pick items on your plate. Loved the turkey - it was super moist. Given that it's nearly impossible to grab a seat here, I feel lucky to have gotten to try Dante! I came in planning to just get one drink but had to capitalize on the opportunity and ended up getting another. For the first round I tried the plum sazerac and a friend got the Appletini. I personally liked the appletini more but both were fruity and fun!! The plum drink definitely had a stronger alcohol taste. Both drinks were strong!!! For the second round I got the margarita and my friend got the clementine campari. Both were great and I think the margarita was my favorite drink of the night!! It was super fresh and delish!!! I came here for a friend's birthday. The vines are immaculate. The bar is beautiful. The aesthetic is on point. Although I didn't get a drink, I would happily come back to get one! The drinks looks unreal and delicious. But the food... definitely could've been better. Bianca Flatbread: 7/10 The flavors of the flatbread were all there. The cheese with the Smokey meat and then the fresh herbs, the size was very good, BUT IT WAS BURNED. And I'm not one to get annoyed by this but because it was a flatbread, the crust itself was so thin that the burnt flatbread consumed a lot of the taste. Unfortunately every bite started to become overwhelmed with the burnt charcoal. Big bummer. Pesto Pasta I can't comment on the taste of the pasta, but one of my friends is gluten free and got the pasta and said some of her noodles were still so undercooked they were crunchy... that's very unappetizing. My other friends did enjoy the pasta though. Margarita Flatbread My friend liked her flatbread but said it was a bit undercooked. Very inconsistent with the oven time I guess... Apple Tart: 7/10 I thought the crust was flakey but overall too dry. You couldn't easily get a bite with the filling and the pastry because the filling was lumpy and chunky while the pastry wouldn't cut easily. Tiramisu: 7/10 Average tiramisu. It was too wet from the espresso. There were liquid dripping out the bottom. Our waitress was also kind of rude. It felt like she didn't want to be there and just wanted us to hurry up and order and leave. We also came for a birthday, which was on the Resy, and if there wasn't a comment made at the very end, the waitress wasn't going to acknowledge it at all. I hate when you put on the Resy and pick one restaurant out of hundreds and they don't acknowledge it unless you specifically ask for a mere candle. Overall, I enjoyed my time because my friends were there and we were celebrating a birthday. The vibes were very nice for us to sit and talk. Beautiful decor here, very classy. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. There are not a lot of tables inside so getting a reservation here is ALWAYS a challenge. There are tables outside that helps during the warmer weather. We were there in a Sunday evening and because they kept the front door open, we were freezing cold at our inside table with the draft blowing right through. The food selection is decent, with many classic Italian dishes. However, it's quite overpriced with not the best quality. The chicken cutlet in the Chicken Parm plate was super thin, mostly breading you're tasting. Also, the dish does not come with any pasta which is very odd. We had to order a separate dish of pasta to get some. The Apple pie was delicious with the ice creams, the pie had a nice croissant type crust. Service was good here. read more

Considering it was a holiday, I was very surprised they were able to squeeze us in on the counter. I'm so glad they did because I loved the drinks here. I ended up getting a blood orange spritz. It was so good. It had depth. There was a sweetness and a bit of bitterness to it. My friends got other drinks, and I ended up sipping a bit of the espresso martini and seasonal Bellini. We stopped by for cocktails on Friday. I was in town to celebrate my soon to be SIL's bachelorette. I got the seasonal rockmelon 75, and this was my favorite cocktail of the whole weekend! I love a French 75 and their take is a great summer refresher. There was a bit of a wait since they only take reservations if you are eating, but it was well worth it!
