Because my bacon was severely under-cooked and, clearly lying around in a greasy bin for at least a couple of hours, I sent it back The Manager came over to tell me the only bacon available was pure fat-belly. This restaurant is located in a shopping strip. It is popular for locals and after perusing the large menu and the "too much to eat at one time' food portions, it was easy to see why. Everything was really good. i had the sliced turkey meal. my wife got thee fish. My younger son had a gyro and Greek salad. Dessert comes with the meal. We had a crusty waitress which took a little getting used to. We asked for drink refills, and she said, "you will get them, but not right now." Another table with children came in and the kids wanted their own milkshakes. The waitress told them the milkshakes were too big and she was only going to bring one milkshake for two kids to share. This was a convenient location for my two friends and I. We are all retired and used to work close to this restaurant. In early December we met and I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Received one with a very large piece of ham and not Canadian bacon. I removed that and ate the poached egg on the English muffin. That evening I was very sick with stomach cramps and feeling like vomiting. This lasted for 2 days but I wasn't sure it was the meal. We both ordered breakfast for dinner. 2 eggs over easy, sausage patties, rye toast and nooo hash browns, fruit please. Food came quickly. I had white toast. She took it back and had rye made. My plate was full of hash browns. Then was looking forward to the sausage. Took a bite and could not eat them. I offered them to my friend. He tried and did not want them. I take my 81 year old mother to Dappers once a week for lunch. She orders the same sandwich every time. The last 3 weeks in a row I noticed her pulling the tomato off her sandwich. I asked her. " Mom, I thought you liked tomatoes " she said I do. But I cant chew the butt slice of the tomato. And said thats what the restaurant has put on her sandwich every time. Mom, mom isn't a complainer. However I am. You would think. That when you pay $13 for a sandwich ( tax and tip included ) You would receive a full slice of tomato. I suppose instead of tossing the butt slices in the trash. Your typical Chicago style diner. Hideous interior (although they do have a couple of old black & white pics of Chicago that are interesting). Service is usually very attentive and friendly. I have only been here for breakfast and it is a good, reliable choice. I only order 1 of 3 things out of the entire menu because the portions of most items are really disgustingly big and I hate to waste food. You can never go wrong with any of their egg dishes, they are always prepared well. Whatever you do though, dont order the turkey burger plate (yes, its a "low-cal option" on the breakfast menu.). Here's the skinny folks - it's a Greek diner. I don't know where you are from - but most likely you had a Greek diner around somewhere in your neighborhood. They all have a few things in common: 1) You will be treated like a guest in their home - and this begins the second you walk in. 2) There will be specials on a board - or placed within the menu - and at least two of them will be Greek in nature. 3) You will leave happy. All of these things apply here, and then some. Without fail, there is a nice Greek blonde woman who immediately recognizes us - as we are regulars - and seats us just as quick. I really like it here - it is the perfect Sunday morning sobering up place. Your coffee cup will always be full. You will enjoy any of the skillets - except the veggie. A very decent family restaurant, especially for breakfast. We came here on a Saturday morning, and they had a pretty decent sized crowd. The menu for breakfast was large, and everyone in my party found something they could enjoy. I went for the NY Strip steak and eggs. And I was not disappointed. It was cooked exactly how I wanted it, which was very rare. (Nothing tastes better than beef blood, eggs, and hash browns all mixed together!) The potatoes were cooked crisp, and the eggs done perfectly. Not a complaint to be had. Our server was busy, but genuinely friendly, and never let our coffee cups get below half full. But the parking lot to this place is also shared with a strip mall and a Target, making walking through the lot a hazard to your well-being. My fiance and I love to go out for breakfast on a lazy weekend, but despite moving just a few blocks from this place we had read mixed reviews on here and were hesitant to try it. We finally did and it was excellent! I had one of their skillets and my fiance had an omelet... I wish I had thought to take pictures but we it was so good we finished it too quickly! Our coffee along with it never ran empty. Overall the food and service were fast and flawless, the portion sizes were large, it wasn't pricy, and the atmosphere was very calming. Tried this place out last night for a little late night dinner. I was pleasantly surprised with pretty much everything that this diner has to offer. As a start me say the service is excellent. This was the best service I've had in a long time. Our waitress did everything you could ask for and beyond. First I have to say she was just so friendly, I know that there job to be extra nice, but this didn't feel forced one bit. She brought an extra plate for my salad even tough we didn't ask for one. My partner didn't get the option for soup or salad with her meal, so it was nice even though the salad sucked balls. Two refills on soda's without us having to ask is every diners dream. She was so good I left her 11 dollars on a 26-dollar check. I just wanted her to know that her awesome service was appreciated. She deserved every penny of it. I ordered a gyro's platter, which came with a choice of soup or salad. The salad is where this place lost a point. It was so soggy, I thought they just grabbed it out of a bathtub and threw it on my plate. The dressing had too much lemon flavor for my taste as well. I pretty much only ate a piece of lettuce and the cheese. The rest of the meal was awesome. My gyro meat was cooked to perfection, well done just the way I like it. The plate included, feta cheese, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, a pita and cucumber sauce. I was impressed with how much food there was for the reasonable price. My ex ordered a tuna melt that looked very nice. They also have STEAK FRIES! I love me some steak fries. All in all it was a great dining experience. I have quite a few meals here over the years, seeing as I grew up not too far from this place. They are very consistent, not much at all has changed here since I was a kid. Wednsday night before Blue Man Group was the most recent visit here. It was the place my Dad choose for all of us to have dinner together before the show. There is nothing fancy about this place. It is your typical Chicago Greek family style restaurant. They have big comfy tables and a rather open dining space. Perfect for big families. We were promptly seated and given lots of time to choose what we wanted. The menus have something for everyone. The waitresses that work here are really friendly, I have yet to receive bad service out of all the times My Dad and I have eaten here. In fact on this night she overheard me saying how I didn't want to wear my Potbelly shirt out to the show, and she chimed in and said "Oh I LOVE Potbelly you should be proud to work there" (which I mostly am, I just didn't feel like smelling like our seasonin' mix all night) Drinks are always kept filled, food is brought out in a timely manner. Most of the items I have had are nothing to write home about, but nothing bad ever either. This night I went with the gyros plate, with the cream of chicken soup. The cream of chicken soup was excellent, tasted almost home made. The gyros, were not greasy nor dry and had a great flavor. My only gripe was that they gave me enough meat for two sandwiches but not enough pita bread to make a second one. I will have to say that it's been my favorite dinner item here (I have also had the salads, a couple of the steaks, and a wrap, but like i have said nothing to write home about). I enjoy their breakfast skillets (the Chorizo one being my fave and yes they'll let you choose pancakes or toast!) This place has EXTREMELY disappointed me. The food and the service is still good, no problems there. The problem lies with them reducing their hours to 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Lara and i used to go here quite often for dinner when we just wanted someplace quiet, and reliable where we could relax in comfort. I guess they did not have enough business for dinner. Ummmm... Before you start alienating your customer base by closing down early you could have at least tried the following ideas: 1) The place is divided into three sections. Instead of keeping the entire place open all of the time. Shut down the unused sections of the restaurant. 2) The menu is massive here. They could easily eliminate the bottom 10% sellers on their dinner options without many people even noticing at all. After reflecting on our lunch yesterday, we both decided that we would come back to Dapper's again. It is totally old school, in both food and ambiance. We are old school people, so there you have it. The service was very friendly, but not in a manic way. We felt at home from the get go. The bread is fantastic. A great way to make a good first impression. Christopher had one of the breakfast skillets. It looked fresh and the toast that came with it was Texas toast size. I had a pork chop sandwich with a bowl of matzo soup. The soup needed some more seasoning, but all in all it was good. The pork chop sandwich was very good. It was well seasoned and tender. We brought a big container of beef barley soup home for Mom. So far she has had 2 big bowls full, and there is plenty more. They also sent some very nicely packed bread and butter with for her. I rarely write reviews, however, I felt the need to for this experience. The workers are nice but the food is awful. I had a skillet. First off, the skillet had two or three types of cheeses on it. Two of the three SLICES of cheese were completely not melted. Secondly, the skillet was really just a bowl of barely browned hash browns. Lastly, the skillet was suppose to have onions, ham, and mushrooms. I had a little onion and ham, but literally counted only TWO mushrooms (might I add that they were canned mushrooms too). I went on Sunday and it took the waitress about 40 minutes to take our order, even though she two two other tables orders that got their after us. You can't really tell what's going on in there until you enter the large revolving door, and even then you can't see the back dining rooms, but this place is big and can definitely handle large crowds. Large, simple breakfast menu (and lunch/dinner), ample coffee refills, good sized portions - I like all of that. I ordered the 3-scrambled egg plate + potatoes + turkey sausage + wheat toast. yah. It was a lot of grub and I it was good. I just had lunch at Dapper's East today in between a foray to the T-Mobile store and Target. Conveniently located in the Addison Mall, between Western and Sacramento, Dapper's is as previously mentioned in a few of these other reviews, a pretty standard Chicago, greasy spoon, with one notable exception, it is "dapper"! Not content to stop at the name on the sign,like similar restaurants, ie. Golden Nugget in terms of engaging in its simulacra, Dapper's East in true post-modern fashion, combines elements of a Victorian gentleman's club and a late 1920s-30s night club toward a visual representation of contemporary conceptions of dapper-ness. When my companion and I entered through the large revolving door, clearly chosen for its evocation of similar doors in the grand luxury hotels of the gilded age, or perhaps just to keep the cold out we were whisked away to a dining experience that both concealed and revealed the limitations of the simulation. The booths, whose vinyl cushions are decorated with an obviously Morris inspired pattern, are set within a booth constructed of the finest maple veneer. The cushion's stepped pattern again provides the diner with a rarefied nod toward the sophistication of the era of Art Moderne. While the top cap, otherwise unremarkable, was furnished with an Japanese-inspired planter filled with a variety of artificial flora, supported by two vine-like cyma curve brackets. How very Art-Nouveau indeed! The green glass lamp shades that hang over most of the tables again, combine both modern impuses in term of their fixtures while evoking the green glass lamp shades of the reading room or again the gentleman's club. While there are other simulacral elements worthy of deconstruction, I shall not spoil all of them for you , but rather I implore you to visit Dapper's East and engage in them for yourself. The glass etchings of the dapper gentleman and his lady friend are exceptionally rarefied. As a bonus, the food is worthy of a discriminating pallette, and its servings are of substantial proportion. The staff are polite, attentive and courteous. Despite most of the clientele being of the usual crowd one would expect to find in a diner, the presence of two elderly ladies in full length minks though, left us wondering if at Dapper's East the representation truly precedes reality. read more

They are known for their breakfast more than anything, but for me, the chopped steak and Greek specialties are where it's at. Oh, one of the best cabbage soups you'll ever have.
