I started going to Dave's back in June. It was amazing. Instantly addicted. Great spice and flavor, awesome sauces, good fries...slowly they have gone downhill. I'm picky when it comes to quality of chicken and when I started going there, I could eat both of the chicken tenders. Slowly, the chicken quality has been going down so much so that I'm down to maybe 1.5. I don't eat the bread or much of the fries because I'm not big on carbs, so this is a big deal to me. Not too hot but just enough heat and the flavor is to die for..... my husband enjoys the Medium just as much. Best hot chicken sandwich hands down (I still don't know why people even bother with Chick-Fil-Gross). When they label their spiciness levels - THEY MEAN IT. Cant say enough great things about this spot. First off, the people here have never been anything but smiles and professional. I've eaten here maybe 5 times now and the food was always perfect. Not overcooked or over seasoned which is easy to do. The online ordering process is super easy and quick. If you're looking for delicious Nashville-style hot chicken, look no further. The chicken is tender, juicy, and flavorful. It's not overly breaded or salty, it's not greasy, and there are no tough or fatty bits. The heat is pleasant and enhances the flavor of the chicken, which is how spice in hot chicken should function, IMO. With that in mind, here are some caveats that some people might care about: - I'm not a spice fiend, so I can't rightly comment whether the hottest levels will satisfy people looking to have their mouths scorched. YMMV. - The sides don't live up to the chicken, at least in my opinion. The white bread is plain and generic, and the fries are mushy and under-seasoned. Who cares? You're here to eat the best damned fried chicken in Portland, and that's what you're going to get. - There's not a lot of variety on the menu. I'll say it again: who cares?? You're here for the chicken! (I saw a now-removed review complaining about a lack of vegan options. I honestly don't know what to say to that.) - Some people might feel that the chicken is a bit expensive for the volume of food you get. I think you get plenty of food, but even so, I say: you're paying for quality, not quantity, and what you pay for is worth every penny. - The line is long. That said, it tends to move quickly - I think I waited about 30 minutes to order, and then about 10 minutes after that I got delicious chicken. Worth. None of these should deter anyone craving great chicken. Back when I lived in Los Angeles, I ate Dave's as often as my wallet allowed, which ended up being about once a week. Tried it for the first time last week and had to go back twice that week! Best fried chicken I've ever had. I got the mild and the flavor was all there. Perfectly crispy and juicy. Came with plenty of fries. Dave's sauce and pickles. Their sliders are NOT sliders. They are full on chicken sandwiches. Hugeeee. Also had their Mac and cheese. I've now ordered here a few times since opening, and I think a 4 star rating is solid. I enjoy my food here and it's enough to keep me coming back. You definitely don't come here to eat healthy, but the food is good. I always order the tender with fries ($11), which contains two chicken tenders made to your preferred spiciness level, crinkle cut fries, white bread, and picked with Dave's sauce. The 7 spiciness levels range from no spice to reaper. I always get extra hot, which I find to be a good balance, and I love spicy foods. The breading on the chicken is thin but will balanced. The chicken itself is juicy and I've never felt it was dry. I am satisfied after each time I've been here so portion sizes are reasonable. I don't eat much of the bread as I don't care for white bread, but two times I've been here the bread has been stale. I would continue to come back but I do think the price is a couple bucks more than what value I find I'm getting. TIP: skip the line and wait - order online! read more

Went to today's grand opening and was not disappointed. The line outside was long but the employees were all hustling and I was in and out in less than 25 minutes. I had the #3 extra hot and was surprised at how much I liked the slider. Normally I'm only in it for the tenders but will definitely make the #3 my usual Dave's order.
