Been coming here a bit now, and every time has been great! Parking can be a bit tough depending on the day, there is parking in the back of the building though, so just be prepared! This place is a charming aesthetic when you walk in. It's got some good lighting, not bright, just calm, at least to me. The decor is itself is beautiful, simple, yet beautiful. Service is good! Everyone is nice, they're always on the move, but always willing to help when needed. Food, I never had a bad thing here. And oh my goodness, a one page menu, decision fatigue has lessened! The simple go to for a lot of us has been the Katsu Curry. It's big, but never skimps on flavor. The texture is perfectly crispy, and the meat is juicy! The curry is full of flavor, and all of that with rice, is served in a big stone bowl. So it stays warm your whole meal. Garlic Su Yuk has been a comfort dish since say 1 for me. It's just comfy, with the toppings, I just need to add rice and that's my happy meal. Tofu Stew is that thing I get if I'm either craving soup, or I really need to open my chest because asthma is a pain in the booty. You get that bowl of rice, so I like to add the fried egg to that, let me say that yolk from the egg is an enhancement. The dish is perfect, but egg elevates it! So overall, this one of my comfy food spots. I know the Katsu is viral, but try the other delicious foods here too! You won't regret it!
I went to Dawa Kitchen a few years ago with my younger sister and dad, and I'm glad this place is still in business and that their portion sizes are still incredibly massive! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, beef soup (galbi tang with glass noodles), and dawa chicken. All three dishes were shared family style and we had a good amount of chicken katsu curry to take home as leftovers for my friend's partner to eat for his dinner. Can you believe that a group of seven women only had to pay $71.86 total (including tax and the automatic gratuity for our party size that was 5+ people) for that much food? We each paid $10.27 for our portion and that's highway robbery in this economy. In terms of customer service, I'll say that our server was incredibly friendly when he was present, but he admittedly came by literally only three times during our visit: when we had to dramatically flag him down to order, when he dropped off our food when it was ready, and when we had to flag him down to pay for our check. I'm so glad they had a handheld terminal for us to use for checkout because we might have passed out from heat stroke if we waited any longer, lol. There are always trade-offs in this life, I suppose. We'll be back soon!
The combination of tasty food and attentive service earned the five stars. Been wanting to try this spot for their mega katsu dishes and it did not disappoint. HUGE props to Ian for holding down the FOH fort solo on a slammed Friday night. He handled all the tables and the 8+ groups waiting with such grace and genuine care, showing just the right amount of urgency to indicate the patrons were the priority. He anticipated when the tables might need refills or extra napkins, never flinching when it seemed as though everyone wanted something broiled table side, all while juggling the scorching dishes the kitchen crew cranked out with ease. Ian very easily tipped this review into five star territory with his hard work! We ordered the chicken katsu and the bibimbap for the two of us, but really want to try the short ribs and cheese, and the bibimyun. The crowds were a diverse mix of Korean elders, young college kids, and neighborhood folks - all signs that the food speaks for itself. If you're looking for quality Korean comfort food, a simple menu, and an intimate atmosphere, this is the place for you. Oh, and the banchan choices were great for a kimchi, pickle, mac salad lover like me!
the wait was a little long but that's understandable since the shop isn't that big. food was really yummy especially the beef belly rice. not sure what day i went but the restaurant was definitely full.
Loved the hot stone dishes here! Everything was really crispy, and the portions were pretty big, so it's a good to share. My favorite was the pork belly! The curry was also good, but I wish they had provided more curry sauce since the katsu was really huge. We ended up running out of rice and sauce first, and the chicken was a little too dry to eat by itself.
Everything was seriously 10/10! The food was delicious, the service was great, and everything came out fresh and flavorful. We really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend Dawa Kitchen!
Yeah, this place is some fire bro. Ya'll know how I get down, I'm Mr. Value and this place is arbitrage opportunity central. The food is pretty bomb too, I mess with the tteokbokki and the boiled pork thing heavy. The katsu curry is really big but the katsu itself is a little dry.
I ordered the japchae, spicy pork katsu, and the bulgogi rice dish. The service was fast and efficient, and our food came out quickly. My favorite was definitely the spicy pork katsu. The curry had a rich, flavorful taste, and the katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy on the inside. I would definitely come back just for this dish! The japchae was well-seasoned and packed with flavor, but it wasn't my personal favorite. The bulgogi rice dish was also delicious the beef was flavorful and paired really well with the rice. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back to try more of the menu.
I got the beef soup the meat was star of the show super tender and soup was pretty good , my girl had the beef ramen was reallt good and she enjoyed it . The side dishes were simple but good but the Dawa Chicken was 80% breading not good at all the server was nice enough to take off the check since he said that's how it's made the service was good and ambiance was like a small Korean bar vibe
Came here for dinner with my daughter and it's her second time, and it's my first time here. This place has the best braised beef soup. It's very good and delicious. We ordered the braised beef and it was very good and good portion as well. They bring out Kim chi, chili cucumber, sweet and sour daikon and macaroni salad as well and there isn't any charge, if you wanted more they can bring you it out more. Service here is very good. We had a waiter and he was running the ordering the cleaning the tables and bringing out food all by himself. Even tho it was busy but he still has a great smile, attentive and friendly as well.. Great job my waiter!!! Ambience here is alittle small but roomy. No t.v and no music. It's casual wear. It's absolutely my go-to definitely when I'm back in town.
Asian Fusion Korean food! A hide Gem with good size portions. The Pork cutlet with curry was massive, it didn't disappoint! Good flavor and huge portions. The bonchon was good and the bibimbop was great too, wish an egg was included instead of a separate item.
This place is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! I was definitely wow'd by the flavor! I ordered chicken curry katsu and the rice cakes. Hands down, best katsu I've had in a very long time. I love that it comes out piping hot on the stone plate. Underneath the huge katsu is half rice and half curry. At first I didn't think there was any rice until I cut into the katsu. The portions are shareable! Could've easily fed 3-4 people. I went by myself and I would go by myself again and order more than 1 dish again. The banchan is also SO DELICIOUS & you can ask for refills.
Visited on a Saturday evening and we were able to get seated right away for a party of 5. It was quite late too so we probably got lucky. Clean, cozy size restaurant. Staff were friendly and had a good amount of attentiveness. Everything we ordered was so good! I'm happy to find this Korean spot. Anything you order off the menu will be good. Portions are shareable but of course you can still enjoy them on your own. I will definitely come back!
The Galbi Jim was the best I have ever had! The sauce inside goes well with everything! They have only been open a month so they still waiting on the liquor license. The owner is so nice and hospitable. We came on a Friday at 6:30 and the wait was about 30 minutes. It was well worth the wait. We had the pork curry katsu, great sauce. Food is an experience. Bring mace and an empty stomach. Prepare to wait. Parking sucks. The food here is great experience. Out of Instagram-influence, I ordered the fetus-size katsu with rice and curry. The crust on the katsu has a tender crumble texture unlike most gum-stabbing-razor-sharp panko crusts. The meat was a little dry but it's expected with a thin cut that gets deep fried. It was as unwieldy as a bus steering wheel but it was still delicious. Let's face it though, the star here is the braised ribs. It's a stew similar to galbi-jjim but contains additional meat cuts in it. It has brisket, short rib and shank. I don't usually get galbi-jjim with cheese so I opted out of it. In addition, there are some hearty veggies such as carrots, potatoes pumpkin (I think) and chewy rice cakes (dduk bok ki). I wish there was more of the rice cakes. The sauce is heavenly symphony of sweet and savory. The meat was flavorful and fall-apart tender. The portion is humongous so bring an extra person to share. The stone pot keeps the food very hot so proceed with caution.... Or you can be stubborn like me and take a bite, followed by a AAAAHHHCHCHCHCCCHCHCT!!!!! The neighborhood is questionable as an avocado so be vigilant. The area hasn't been gentrified yet. Don't leave things out in the open in your car and watch your surroundings. read more

Everything was premium quality and customer service was beyond you can expect. The owner surprised us with another katsu because he thought the one he initially gave us was too thin. We didn't even get to finish the first katsu because the portion was too much. Definitely coming back to try different menu next time. read more

Pretty tasty spot to go to with family and friends. Seating is decent but not super large. There was only one worker when we went and he was hosting and serving. Seemed like they were short staffed. They have no alcohol there. Kinda disappointed most meats were pork, no chicken. Most favorite dish I'd have to say was the rice cakes and ramen. Pork katsu seemed dry and the pork dish seemed to be missing more sauce to it. read more

Went in at 2:50pm and the wait was still super long. Didn't wait the full quoted hour though. Service was great, food came out quick piping hot. Side dishes were simple yet very delicious. Came home with enough leftovers for late dinner. Simple and clean ambiance with old school Korean window paper deco used for the ceiling light covers, very clever and cute. read more

You've probably seen the gigantic pork katsu all over social media. I saw it too -- which is why I decided to pay Dawa Kitchen a visit! I got the curry and rice combo, and it was the perfect pairing. The katsu itself was crispy and piping hot, with a light breading that made it addicting. I wish that there was a spice level for the curry because it would have been so much better had it been spicy. It was under $30 for the katsu and could easily feed 3 people if you get the curry combo, which is a great deal! I also ordered an army stew and probably wouldn't get it again because it had a really strong sausage/spam flavor. read more

This review is over due! I love this place and low key want to keep it a secret but I'm sure word is out! This place does not disappoint in service and food!!!!! I always leave in a food coma! Tucked In a small strip mall you will find this little slice of heaven. Everything we have tried so far has been amazing! Look through the photos and you will see what I mean!!! A newer restaurant with traditional Korean bar type dishes mixed in with some regular Korean food. It is solid and the portions were extremely generous. The spicy stewed beef ribs is a traditional type Korean meal, however Dawa throws in a twist - melted cheese. I have been seeing this in other restaurants, but I think Dawa's portions seem to be more generous and is less expensive than most of the others. Very tasty and I highly recommend especially if you're there with a group of people. At the moment, there is no liquor or beer/ wine license since they have only been open for a month, but they are currently in process of obtaining it. We also ordered the tonkatsu with curry, which was massive. It is a thin tonkatsu, but very tasty and the curry was very flavorful. Another popular and highly recommended dish. Service is great, but the only downside is the restaurant is a bit smaller than I expected. The restaurant has been featured on social media ads so they have become quite popular as of late, so you may be waiting. But I assure you, you won't be disappointed with their food. read more

We went for lunch with our friends and the food was superbly delicious !We ordered four items which six of us all shared. We had their Korean pancake (so good!), the humongous pork katsu with curry (don't be intimidated , you can finish it! It's that good), the beef belly hot stone bowl (a better version of pepper steak) and my favorite, the garlic su yuk (sou vide pork belly in beef bone broth with garlic, chives, and house special gochujang! Food is sooo delicious. Service is kind and efficient and the resturant is clean. We loved the Braise beef dish becuase they use brisket snd its sooooo tender juust melts off the bone and barely need to chew. Super tender and flavored perfectly. Korean pancake has sooo much shrimp and cooked with a crunch every bite super yummy. The Garlic pork back rib is trmder and flavor is Delicious . Love being able to taste the meat flavor and not have it overpowered and covered up. The pork katsu is epic! Its soooo Huge! Fed our entire group of 7! The meat is thinner slab so depending on resturant rush - if super packed it does run out before ene of nite and sometimes if rushed this dish may come out more dry. (Fried too long) but overall still super yunmy to dip into the curry and/or katsu sauce !! Bimbibap had lots of ingredients and super yummy Side dishes (3/4 variety) i loved the cucumber and fresh kimchi Love the friendly manager. Really nice place to eat in big groups. read more

Tried to come on a weekend and was unfortunately turned away due to long wait time. Which leads me to believe that the food is going to be good. Came back on a week night and was able to get seated for dinner within 35 minutes. Overall a great vibe. Nice and clean space. Friendly and attentive service. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We had the beef belly stone pot, garlic su yuk, and dduk bok ki with cheese. Also loved the fresh ban chan that was served along with our meal. Comfort food at reasonable prices. Met the owner who was also serving and he checked in on how our meal was. The owner shared that everything from the sauces to the ban chan are made in house! We will definitely be coming back again to try out other foods on the menu. Thanks for a wonderful first experience and for the homey yummy Korean food! read more

The food is amazing at this restaurant, really brings a lot of quality to the table. It was me and my brothers first time trying this place, they were out of the chicken katsu but the pork was just as good. We decided to do the curry add on and I can say that this place is definitely delicious. Service was amazing and the ambiance is amazing. Overall I can say the food here is definitely great as it shows great quality for being a Korean restaurant. Would definitely come here again! read more

First timer tonight. Very clean place in a small strip mall. Ordered the Pork Katsu with curry and the short ribs. First off food was good. Second they give you a lot. I'm 350 lbs. I ate all the katsu but had to bow out with the short ribs. We will go back. I would like more curry and rice as it comes on a hot platter. Worth going and we will go back. read more

I bookmarked DAWA a few weeks ago, and decided tonight is the night I would stop by. If I had to sum up my experience in one word, it would be IMMACULATE. Everything was amazing, the service, vibes, decor and last but not least the food. Of course the banchan arrived first and all of it was delicious. We tried 3 different dishes, the army stew, mandu, and the beef belly hot pot. All of them were soo tasty and the army stew broth had so much depth in flavor compared to other Korean restaurants I've tried it at. I was a bit bummed to see that the restaurant wasn't busier, because it deserves to have a line out the door. I would gladly wait an hour if it was necessary, the food was that good! read more

We went on Saturday night so it was packed and waited for over an hour. The food big portion and pork katsu was actually tender! There wasn't enough curry sauce for all the katsu and rice. The bibimbap and sea food pancake was also good. Is it worth 1 hour wait food? No. But if you wanna go for a picture and pay less for big proton food, then yes. The service was good though. read more

First time here, and let me say the food is delicious . Definitely, it was worth the wait. The spicy ramen was my favorite as well as the shrimp pancake, and the side is bimb. Cucumber was my favorite, with good flavor. I recommend this place for anyone trying new things. Highly recommended for sure, and the owner was very nice . Great service!!!!!! 10/10 read more

Came here on a Tuesday and service was great. We were a party of 3 and our server was great and attentive, even when it was getting busy. The portion sizes were huge and ordered the Bibimbap with Bulgogi. Will definitely want to come back and try the Pork Katsu. read more

First time coming here. It is a fairly small space, so the wait can take a while. But we came around 5:30 pm, and got seated 10 minutes later. We then ordered the chicken katsu, garlic su yuk, Bulgogi stone pot, and spicy pork hot stone pot. We waited about 10 minutes for the food to come out. As we waited, we noticed the portions were really big and we wouldn't be able to finish the food. However, as a group of 4, we were able to finished as the dishes were all so delicious, hot, and freshly cooked. The katsu was really crunchy, the pork belly was really soft and delicious with the sauces, and the hot stone pot was so good mixed with the rice and bean sprouts. Unfortunately, we don’t take any reservations. You can join the yelp waiting list by visiting our restaurant. The seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Do you serve beer and soju?
We do not carry any alcoholic beverages yet, but the good news is we are currently working on it, so will have them soon! Yay😉
Do they have enough parking space available during the weekend?
There is some extra parking in the back but now that it's getting more popular parking can be difficult.
