While Daytrip Counter was satisfying, I won't be dreaming about it. The Club Med salad was good, but if I returned I'd try something else, whereas at my favorite restaurants, I have no interest in branching out. The ingredients of the salad are very promising, but ultimately they are less than the sum of their parts. I loved the idea of Gigante beans (an underutilized bean!) and a lemon tahini dressing, but in the end, only the feta cheese truly offered much flavor. Otherwise, the fixings only hinted at saltiness or tanginess. The feta was generous enough, but bites without it were lacking. Meanwhile, the olives and pickled red onion felt extraneous and didn't coalesce with the other elements. Greater attention to detail with fewer fixings would do this dish well. I do appreciate that they offer such a protein-rich main for vegetarians since that is a gaping hole in many menus. The service is quick within a cheerful space optimized for turnover. The tables mostly seemed like groups of coworkers, which is apt, given that this is not so much a destination as a safe lunch option for a bigger crowd. read more

Absolutely the best edition to Temescal- exactly what I've been wanting in the neighborhood. I was so sad when Daytrip announced they were closing, but WOW they made a comeback. The food is just so good and exactly the flavor combos I crave to the point where I feel like the menu is pandering to me. Chicken PERFECT Basil caesar was SO good with great texture and depth. I can't wait to try all of the sides, not pictured were the green beans which I loved. Food came out almost instantly truly so fast. Price for everything was around $50 which is like... really good these days but especially for how high quality the food is. And we had leftovers. Went in to try their famous chicken and salads. My partner is vegetarian and ordered the ceaser salad vegetarian style and I got the quinoa bowl with cilantro something and chicken. Now called Daytrip Counter, a more casual spot for lunch and dinner with rotisserie chicken, salads and salad bowls, French fries and other sides. We got the Combo #1, which includes a half chicken, choice of 1 salad or bowl, 1 side, and 1 sauce. Enough food for 2 people! Everything was so delicious and flavorful! The Crispy Spicy Salad was the best item out of what we got. Bursting with flavor and texture. (Note: the sauce is more creamier than I would expect for a vinaigrette. But we LOVED it). The Caesar Fries side was also delicious. They had a lot of Parmesan cheese and the Caesar sauce was very rich. For the sauce, we got the Schmaltz sauce, which is like a chicken juice reduction. It was good, but I would recommend a different sauce, as the rotisserie chicken already has that sauce on the plate, and it isn't quite thick enough or flavorful enough to work with the fries. So it would be nice to have a different sauce to have a better variety of flavors. The customer service was absolutely amazing, and all the workers were so accommodating. read more

We SO wanted to love our overall experience here. First off, the food was a 9/10... salad and chicken flavors and freshness are on point ! Loved our food but a little too much dressing for on my salad . But we came for dinner on an early Friday night and small things made the experience challenging . I do know restaurateurs have to save on labor costs these days. But fixing small details would go a long way to making this a go-to spot. Future fixes: keep water and napkins readily available , have runners drop silverware with food, provide 2 bus pans at all times, provide to-go bags with the boxes - basic stuff for a self - serve restaurant. We ordered a Club Med salad with chicken, a Basil Caesar bowl with chicken, and a side of fries. - The fries were super tasty. Whatever their seasoning is was in just about every bite. The tiny grating of cheese on top didn't add anything - couldn't really taste it. Overall, I'd order them again - crispy and delicious. - The Club Med salad tasted fine, but the greens portion (kale and romaine lettuce) was pretty skimpy for a salad, especially when served on such a large plate - lots of white space there! The kale was pretty tough, too. Massaging it a little before serving would've gone a long way for the texture for me. The amount of chicken and beans was good. The serving size as a whole, though, made it look like what I'd have at home for lunch - leftovers, not quite enough. I wouldn't order this again given the small amount of greens. - The bowl had hardly any quinoa, and that's meant to be the base - an herby quinoa. The woman who served it said she asked the kitchen to put extra quinoa - it was sprinkled over the top - because it didn't look like it had enough. There wasn't enough to be able to ever fill a fork or spoonful, even with the "extra". We wouldn't get this again given the minimal quinoa. Maybe ordering a chicken and sides is the way to go here, and that's what we'll try next time. When ordering a salad or bowl, I had the big greens/grain portions in mind I've had at other restaurants (e.g. Greens and Grains, Doña) - something that'll actually get you full. This time around, we both left still a bit hungry. read more

This review is LONG OVERDUE. This restaurant is an absolute GEM. These chefs KNOW food (from a foodie). There is such an elevated flavor to everything on their menu. My go-tos are the cilantro lime chicken salad, the herby quinoa, the spiced cauliflower & the brothy beans. I recently started picking up a whole rotisserie chicken that I've been adding to our weekly dinner rotation - sooooooo good. I'm convinced they put crack in their food.
