I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been to the new place since they moved, about 2 years ago. We went this evening for Father's Day and it was pretty crowded. They told us 45 minute wait but were seated in about 15. The waitstaff was very friendly. She took our drink order and then food. We were really surprised how fast the food came out, considering how busy it was. The food, I had blackened Flounder, was very good. The portions were good, and all & all the prices were still pretty good. The interior was a lot better and more thought out than their original location a few blocks away. We had a dozen of oysters, the oysters were pretty fresh, although I wasn't the biggest fan of their house sauce but the horseradish did hit the spot. The dozen head on shrimps were good. The garlicky sauce that was spot on! Shrimps were of good size and not mushy, you know that means they are pretty fresh! Downside would be there isn't any sides with the shrimps, some potatoes to suck up that nice garlicky sauce would be a nice touch. The taste of the crawfish etouffee was not my favorite, however, it was full of crawfish of $15, totally worth it! After years of driving by Deckhand's we finally decided to take the plunge and give it a try. We quickly realized just what we had been missing. The menu is absolutely loaded with great choices, and the service is efficient and friendly. It is obvious the workers here take pride in the brand. We had the roasted oysters, and they were delicious beyond belief. Absolute perfection in a half shell. Unbelievable!!! In a good way. We came to pick up a cake from a local baker and decided to try out this restaurant. We were craving seafood and are sooo glad we came here!! Our waitress is the funniest/sweetest thing ever. I forgot her name, but shes very bubbly and enthusiastic about her job and the food! Everything was delicious! Their menu is always on point for me and service has always been pleasant. We love their raw and cooked oyster options. Deckhand Oyster Bar is a very popular and pretty good seafood restaurant and bar serving a mix of Thai and Cajun dishes. They have two locations: one up north in Round Rock (which is were we dined), and another down south on Lamar. We started with a half-dozen oysters; a bargain at $12.99. The oysters were fresh, meaty, and enormous, with a very mild flavor that lacked the complexity and brininess we craved. Fortunately, a squirt of spicy Deckhand sauce elevated the experience. I then ordered a cup of Tom Yum soup. This version wasn't nearly as pleasingly sour as others I've had elsewhere, but it was teeming with seafood and a strong hit of cilantro. Again, pretty good. My main course was the Drunken Sailor. A long, oblong dish filled with crawdad tails, shrimp, calamari, fish balls, jalapenos, green and red bell peppers, onion, Thai basil, and a slab of fried catfish in a fragrant, umami-rich/slightly sweet brown sauce and served with a side of Jasmine rice. In keeping with today's theme, it was pretty good. Deckhand has a decent selection of beers, and those on tap are served very cold in a large mug. Decor is light and airy. There's a large, U-shaped bar and abundant seating in the dining area. We chose to eat at the bar (because we're bar people), and the bartender service was attentive and efficient. The room is quite loud with conversations, music, and televised sports. There is a large parking lot, which is always one of the joys of dining in the burbs vs. the city. All in all, Deckhand Oyster Bar has pretty good food at good prices in a pleasant environment--although the food lacks the complexity, balance, and finesse of the various better Thai restaurants I've frequented. If Yelp allowed the awarding of half stars, I would give Deckhand a very solid 3-1/2 starts. Definitely worth a visit. read more

First time I've been to this new location since they moved several years ago. The food was tasty, with generous portion size (I had the stuffed flounder). The server was attentive. But there were a couple of things that bothered me. I was seated at one of the high top tables immediatley across from the bar, and was almost overpowered by the chlorine odor when wiping the bar top. You come here and sit at the bar and you're friends with everyone. I know of different menu items bc of the camaraderie. Second - cold a** beers, and smack your lips micheladas. Trust me on this. Third - the food. Oysters, gumbo, tom yum, shrimp diablos, crying tiger, the secret sauce. All of it just do it! Lunch today came from Deckhand Oyster Bar. I noticed that their menu offers a range of Cajun/Thai inspired seafood options which were all pretty decently priced. I had wanted to try out a lunch special for pick-up but unfortunately those are only offered for dine-in. I ended up ordering a Shrimp Po-Boy and a cup of Tom Yum soup. The shrimp po-boy came with cole slaw and lettuce & tomatoes which were wrapped up seperately. That was much appreciated because it kept things from getting soggy or wilted. The po-boy was on garlic bread and included about 6 or so fried shrimp. I'm glad I reminded the server that I had requested extra tartar sauce because they initially packed me no sauce whatsoever. The po-boy, cole slaw and hushpuppies were all delicious. The cup of Tom Yum soup was a decent size and had a good spicy flavor. It was also packed with fish, veggies, shrimps and a mussel and for $4.50 I thought that was an awesome deal. I'll definitely be back to try the La Frontera Oysters and their gumbo. read more

This was our first time at their new North location. Definitely a bigger place, but the wait time is still the same, at least during the dinnertime rush hour. After a 30 minute wait on a Saturday evening, we were in, and the aroma hit us like a speeding train. We ordered the Crawfish Etoufee and the Deckhand Seafood Noodle Soup. I felt that the recipe for the etoufee is different, and not as tasty as I remembered it from the old location. The garlic bread, however, is addictive as always. The soup was the star of the night. The broth was hot and sour, like Tom Yum, and delicious. The mushrooms soaked up all the flavor and the seafood was perfectly cooked. I've been to the old and new locations, and so happy they finally got an updated establishment as they outgrew the old spot long ago. The new restaurant is spacious, lovely patio and has much more comfortable seating. Our waiter was great, kept our drinks topped off, and our food arrived quickly and tasted great. I am bummed we haven't been able to get the La Frontera oysters the last couple of times, as that's the main dish I prefer from there. I guess I'll call to see if they have them before going back. Bummer. Also, if I wanted to listen to obnoxiously blasted inappropriate music on a Sunday afternoon, I'd go to the strip club on the adjacent side of the interstate. Volume was way too loud and listening to lyrics about big booties and other female parts tainted my dining experience. We requested multiple times to turn down the atrociously loud volume and to please change it to another genre... then we get to listen to a country song about big city strippers. I'm cool with my mom and all, but that was a bit trashy. Our dining experience would've been MUCH better if the music wasn't at an obnoxiously loud strip-club level and had more appropriate, family-friendly lyrics for the atmosphere. Where do I start. We went to Deckhand tonight and it was mehh to say the least. There was an hour long wait, which is fine. We pulled our car up to the spot right in front of the building and had drinks on the back of the tailgate. After waiting almost 2 hours with a hungry 4 year old we were told our name had been called. But we were there... they offered to sit us in 15 mins which they did. We initially ordered gulf oysters which were perfectly shucked and a great size followed by the gumbo which was "ok". My husband and I then ordered the Longhorn stuffed fish which was suppose to be stuffed with crab and bacon. There was SOOOOOOOO much bacon and no crab which is when we realized there was no crab in the gumbo either. The fish had no flavor and they don't keep salt on the table so we had to request packages. We also ordered crayfish which were well sized, we ordered mild sauce but it had no flavor so crayfish in an oil sauce. A little old bay and salt would have been great. This is not a family friendly environment the music was BLASTING and just when we were screaming over each other they turned up the volume more. They also play the unedited version we heard the n-bomb dropped ALOT and everytime all the other people would turn around and look at us. Followed by move BITC GET OUT THE WAY. It was to much.. A solid favorite of mine, every time I go, I kick myself as to why I don't go there more enough. Friendly staff always makes it a great experience. Pretty casual neighborhood bar feeling, with amazing seafood, you'll find the typical friend seafood platters and then you have some Asian fusion, great pad Thai, friend rice and plates such as a crying tiger are great. Pro tip. Ask for their sticky rice to go along with it! Not on the menu but it takes it up another level. Their special sauce could have given this place a 5 star rating in its own, to put it on oysters, fish, shrimp anything has made me seriously considered taking a bottle. I have very mixed feelings when it comes to Deckhand Oyster Bar's Round Rock location. I have been to both the old and new location several times and instead of just enjoying the experience, I feel like I am compromising with them every time I visit. In exchange for their tasty food, I accept an uncomfortable atmosphere and extremely hit-or-miss service. It's very loud in the restaurant, especially in the new location. It's almost always very busy and crowded to the point that you have to elbow your way around other customers filling the aisles. Good luck getting a bar seat. It seems like you always have to linger around and watch like a hawk for someone to get up and vacate a seat. Customers are often standing 2 or 3 deep behind the barstools. It's basically a toss up as to whether you can even dine in on any given evening. Last time I went I asked the hostess how long she would estimate the wait for a table for two. She said "I don't even know what's going on..." then she walked away, looked around the restaurant with a bewildered look on her face, came back and never addressed me again. I turned around and left because if they don't have their shit together at the hostess area, it's generally a red flag and an indicator that you will have terrible service once you are seated (if you can even get seated). They apparently have no paging/texting or seating system in place and it's just a free for all. The servers mostly look like they reside in halfway houses or are on parole, which is concerning because most of them also seem like they are drunk and/or high. They also don't answer the phone 95% of the time. It doesn't seem like the care to do any takeout business, which is a shame. There are a few good items on the menu (if they have not run out) but they are somewhat overpriced. Drinks are overpriced as well. There is so much room for improvement and it bothers me as someone in the service industry. But they are apparently making plenty of money running it the way they are, so I can't really blame them for not caring.
