My bf and I came on a weekday night for dinner. The music was loud overhead. We listened to club ragers while the TVs looped funny home videos... interesting vibe, lol! The restaurant itself was actually nicely decorated. Our server was friendly, but inattentive. I had to get up and ask them for the check despite us being only 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant. - Avocado Bhel ($8). The puffed rice chaat was flavorful with spices. However, the diced tomato could have been fresher. The avocado was also hard and unripe. - Malai Broccoli ($15). We inhaled this. The flavors and textures were complex: charred, tart, creamy, cheesy, curried. The broccoli was cooked through and retained its crunch. Unfortunately, the orange sauce was too salty. - Signature Butter Chicken ($16 + $3 Butter Naan + $3 Plain Rice). The curry was just ok. We walked over to the restaurant after the Christmas tree lighting In Alhambra. First time trying the spot. There is some upbeat bordering on techno music playing which I'm not sure fit the ambiance. Our server did not seem to really enjoy her job every time we asked for something she would leave quickly so if we wanted two items let's says spoons and napkins we would have to wait for her to return. The tikki masala was better than average taste and presentation wise however the saag paneer was underwhelming and was a really unnerving bright green color like there was something other than spinach included. Terrible name but in terms of food, it's the best Indian food in Alhambra. Yes, even better than Mahan. Saffron rice could be a bit less dry but considering Mahan no longer offers pilaf rice, it's not a huge deal considering how much better their food is in comparison. Wife and I order the tikka masala and butter chicken, samosas, garlic Nan, & saffron rice. Entries were delicious, loved that they offered a scale of 1-10 on terms of spice so you get exactly what you want (I'm shocked how accurate they are in terms of providing exactly the level of spice you want). Samosas were moist, crispy, and perfect; they don't suffer from being extra dry like most somosas I've come across. Garlic naan were tasty and fragrant. The only flaw was the saffron rice as it was a bit more dry than I like but not the worst I've ever had. So glad Mahan is no longer the only Indian option we have considering that the quality has definitely gone down since the pandemic. Give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Saag. Chef Sagar was hospitable and attentive. He was funny when I asked for spicy, and he goes "Indian spicy!?" When I ask for spicy at other places, it's rarely spicy! So, heck yeah, Indian spicy please! The chicken tikka masala was rich in flavor. Unlike most places, their chicken pieces are huge chunks! I also love that their tikka got onions and bell peppers. The chicken was also tender and juicy. Lamb Saag was probably the highlight dish. The lamb was so tender and melts in your mouth. A casual Indian restaurant with quailty food, Delhi Belly is a great new addition to the SGV restaurant scene. What sets Delhi Belly apart from your typical traditional Indian restaurant is that they also have a few interesting fusion dishes you won't find elsewhere. I absolutely loved the butter chicken sandwich. The chicken cutlets in the sandwich were perfectly tender and juicy, and were basked in butter chicken sauce. The sauce itself was creamy without being too thick or heavy, and it had all the right flavors. As simple as it may sound, it really is an incredibly delicious fusion item that I haven't seen elsewhere. Another one of their fusion options is the paneer tikka tacos. While I enjoyed the tacos, I would have preferred if the tortilla was flour instead of corn. Now don't get me wrong - the tacos were still good, but I think flour tortilla would have complemented the Indian flavors and chutney better. All in all, I enjoyed my takeout from Delhi Belly and would love to check out the rest of their menu the next time I'm craving Indian food. read more

My friend and I LOVE Indian food so we decided to check this place out. The interior is very modern yet cozy. They only had one server there when we went for Saturday lunch, so service was a bit slow, but they were trying their best. What we ordered: 1. Garlic Truffle Naan - The naan was thin and crispy. You can definitely taste the garlic after dipping into the curry, but the truffle flavor goes away unless you eat it by itself. I could smell the truffle, but the flavor isn't super strong. 2. Rosemary Garlic Naan - Also thin and crispy, but I could not really taste the rosemary. Was a good garlic naan though! 3. Lamb Tikka Masala - The lamb was super tender and the tikka masala was stronger in flavor than other places I've tried. We did not adjust spice level (they did not offer), so it came as a bit spicy, which was a little too much for my friend who generally doesn't like spicy food. Still, great flavor and was very creamy 4. Butter Chicken - The chicken is super tender and not dry, which is always a plus. The curry part was creamier than the tikka masala and the flavor isn't as strong (less spicy too). I would highly recommend getting this and would come back for more! We shared: Chicken Seekah Kebab - our waitress recommended this, but it was not good. The chicken is more like a fish cake texture, kinda weird. Amritsari Fish Fry - too much batter and it was soggy. Was expecting crunchy texture. Garlic Truffle Naan - 4 small pcs, no truffle taste at all Kadhai Shrimp - This was okay, tailed on shrimps when we asked if there's shells before ordering. Signature Butter Chicken - stable dish at any Indian restaurant, this was the only best dish Saffron Rice - good with the Butter Chicken Rose Lassi - no rose flavored, tastes like plain yogurt with some red coloring. The potatoe & peas Samosa were amazing good the outside was very crispy and golden brown but the filling potatoe & peas were delicious great flavors but come to two dipping flavors they were also good but not spicy. It's very modern decorations inside and has plenty of seating for everyone. Pros : - The Garlic Naan was amazing. It was crispy, good perfectly, and melts in your mouth as you dip it in your curry. - This is one of the better saffron rice I have had. It is only very lightly buttered and was extremely soft without being undercooked - Service was nice and answered all the questions. They were low on staff, so althought it did take longer, because it just opened, I do not dock anything away from the reviews. Cons: - The apps came out the same time as the entrees. I was hoping to be able to try the Butter Chicken small plate before my meal came out. I was unable to enjoy it fully because now I feel like I had to rush thru the food before it got cold. - I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, the pricing of this restaurant does not fit the quality of the food. The food is plated very well and great portions, but they charge what an upscale Indian restaurant would ($15 for curry without naan or rice), but the taste of both the chicken Tikka masala and the Lamb curry did not taste better than a Buffett/take out Indian place in El Monte. The chicken Tikka also had significantly less meat than the lamb. I still have to make a good drive to get good Indian food that doesn't taste like fast food. I really enjoyed my lunch special from Delhi Belly. It was easy to order directly through Yelp fulfilled by GrubHub. The special comes with a choice of an entree (I got the butter chicken), basmati rice, a house salad, naan bread, and a fountain soda. It's almost $18 dollars for this, which I think is on the pricey side especially because the portions were smallish. But in so far as the food itself, I was very impressed. The butter chicken was super flavorful, supple, and tasty. I really liked the freshness and bite of the salad, but it was a mere drop of greens. The rice was good and the naan was outstanding. Was excited to see a new Indian restaurant open so close to home! Came for dinner with a friend on Wednesday and it wasn't too busy. Food was hit-or-miss on my first visit. *The Panipuri tasted standard like others I've had, but the way they serve it is interesting - the puffs are served over the juice and I poured it into the puff. It can get messy...and a couple of the puffs' bottoms disintegrated into the juice...so that was a bummer. *Lamb Chops were delicious, served with this dipping sauce that pairs nicely, a small kick but not gamey. And a small salad with thousand island on the side. *Chicken Tikka Masala (mild) was a bit too spicy for my friend. She needed the rice on the side. *Garlic Naan was good, standard. Dishes came out a bit staggered, so it's a bit awkward if you're ordering individual dishes and not sharing. I can tell if they are packed, service might be a bit slow. Highly recommend this place to anyone in this area. Saurav is an amazing host. He gave so many good recommendations and was kind enough to even make a couple of off menu items for us. My favorite among them all was Dal fry. Flavors are exactly what you would find in any good restaurant in Mumbai. Navratna Korma had a mild aromatic taste which is what expected with this dish. Happy to see this new addition to Main Street. Ordered my usual go-to's, chicken Tikka masala and tandoori chicken. Tikka masala was great- lots of flavor with mild spice. Not too sweet or overly creamy. Fantastic marinade and nice char on the tandoori cornish hen. Price is fair, but on the higher side since rice and naan aren't included with the curry. I saw a sign for some good weekday lunch specials though, so definitely will check those out. Note to restaurant: It was super hot inside. I'm teaching Tuesday nights this semester, and I'm usually peckish after. My students tonight were talking about a new Indian restaurant that opened on Main, so after class, I went to check it out. Also very cool that they are open til 10pm, so I had time to get there and eat. I got the paneer tikka masala. They put onions and bell peppers in their tikka masala, which I have rarely seen, but it was very good. Paneer was very good too, good flavor. Also got the butter naan, which was so good. I went here a few months ago as they are down the street from my job. I went in knowing they had a lunch special, just kind of forgot how much I ended up paying. I believe it was around $18-$20 after taxes. I remember their butter chicken being very flavorful but their rice portion was not enough. I was served in a to-go black box which was good, but mine was broken and sadly the curry leaked into the bag. I should have checked before I left, but I thought everything was good which is why I hadn't checked. Their side salad was definitely flavorful from what I remembered.
