On Saturday, September 20, 2025 my family and I dined at the Altoona, PA location. I had asked our waiter Brian, if Denny's accepted AARP. Brian told us that they do and it will be taken at the register. At 11:13 a.m. I went to pay the check and presented my AARP membership card. The lady working the register refused to take it because my card did not have a barcode on the back of the card to be scanned. Instead of getting the manager to override the 15% off transaction, she just stood there and looked at me and said she can't do anything about it. This poor and unsatisfactory customer service is simply unacceptable. This lady put no effort toward rectifying the situation. I will add that the restaurant was not overly busy to where this would've caused a burden on her moving customers in and out. I'd like to request that a manager or higher respond to my concern, as this pending conversation will drive my decision on whether or not to dine with you in the future. read more

Started well with quick seating and ordering. The ambiance is Denny's at 5:30, mostly early bird specials with their AARP discounts, but I can't blame someone for saving money in this economy! Ordered a Slamburger with no upgrades (5 dollars for a milkshake, people?).. Hamburger was slightly overdone, eggs slightly under, all in all an average Denny's meal. We ordered Denny's for pick-up for some quick dinner. We ordered the "Salted Caramel Banana Cream Pancake breakfast" and a "Build-Your-Own Grand Slam". We picked up the order and took it home, only to find out our order was completely messed up. Inside we got two orders of plain pancakes instead of the Salted Caramel Banana Cream Pancakes, and the Grand Slam was completely missing the toast. I came to Denny's with my brother because he had a coupon for a free breakfast, it had been years since I last went. The booth the hostess sat us at had smeared rag marks and the word "nasty" written in pen on a promoted smoothie ad. The menu was filled pretty much the same meal, just one or two things swapped out. I usually don't have a problem with these sorts of things if the food is good, but I was disappointed with that as well. When the waitress brought out our food, I was very underwhelmed. The hash browns were undercooked and the pancakes tasted like they had been sitting for a while. I ordered a $3 iced coffee and it did not taste like a $3 iced coffee. The quality of the food was comparable to buffet food. You get what you pay for I guess. I probably won't be back for a while unless I'm desperate for greasy food at 2 AM. read more

The place is so dirty , some of the wait staff is rude and the short dark headed manger is way unprofessional she should not have a job dealing with the public. My guy friend likes to go to Denny's, he loves their burgers, which are actually very good. I like the burgers, also the skillet entrees and I love the cinnamon crunch breakfast. The waitresses have always been friendly, and I don't think we've ever really waited very long. My biggest disappointment there is I almost always get silverware that is really less than clean. A company is only as good as its people... I'm sincerely blown away at the at the attitude of the people that Denny's has working there now. Denny's used to be a place where you could gather late at night to have something good to eat and laugh with your friends. After not being at Denny's for a while we decided to go there last night, and after being seated in a relatively empty restaurant, we sat, unacknowledged by anyone for over 20 minutes. Finally, a younger woman who had been chatting at the register with two other Waitresses noticed that we had not been seen by our server, mentioned it to the older woman assigned to our table who proceeded to look our way and state "well they can wait a little f#%*in more! I'm to old for this s*#t and am not running my a$$ off for anyone, if you want the table you can take it" to which the 3 at the register turned and after some comments to each other continued their conversation... needless to say we ended up leaving. I'm not sure what this place is like during the day but if the quality of the people working after 9pm are representative of the whole it won't be long before their doors are closed for good. Love this place! We drive 30 minutes to come here at least twice a month. This is our "fancy" date night, birthday, anniversary, prom, Valentine's Day and double date with friends restaurant. The fact that this place stays open so late is a huge plus for us. They were open until 11 pre COVID and understandably close earlier now, but we're super excited for them to hopefully be open later again. The longest wait we've ever had was like 7 minutes in the early pandemic. Most times we get in immediately. There's a waiter there on Friday nights who is always super nice and recognizes us. There's also many waitresses who are always super nice. We've never had a bad experience with the staff. On occasion something we wanted on the menu ran out or sometimes if we get mozzarella sticks they are soggy. Milkshakes could be better. But for the most part this place is awesome! read more

My friends and I always used to go to Denny's after high school dances. We still go whenever we can, because they have good food and amazing milkshakes. They give you sooo much milkshake, and their other food is good too. I'm assuming the food is about the same as any other Denny's food. I would definitely recommend their loaded cheese fries, pick 3 appetizers plate, and their peanut butter pancakes. I've never had any bad experiences with the service. They're always friendly, and are pretty attentive. The only "complaint" I would have is that it can sometimes take a little longer than normal to get your food (though I usually come in bigger parties). I've never had to wait very long for seating, either. Overall, I enjoy going there, and I love that they're open 24 hours! read more

We have eaten at Denny's many times, although mainly at the johnstown restaurant. This has to be the worst breakfast that we ever had. the coffee was stale and my breakfast was cold. We will not be returning to the altoona denny's again, my husband needs to have treatment early in the morning at the VA hospital usually on an empty stomach and that's wy we stopped for breakfast but we will be looking for a different place. read more

My friends and I came in (total of 8 people), we knew we were going to have a wait because of how large our party was. The hosts originally said it would be about 10 minutes (that was shockingly short). After about 30 minutes one of the hosts came up and said it would still be a little. Note: that the manager had said to them "don't give them a time". Overall we waited about 50 minutes. We would've been fine with if from the beginning they said it would be a longer wait then 10 minutes. My husband and I went there on a Sunday evening around 6pm we were told there would be a 5 minute wait...from the door way I seen 9 empty tables...14 minutes later we were seated. They came along took our drink order..by listening to the waitress take orders from other tables we found out they were out of hamburgers (how does that happen?) and Mac and cheese, the waitress took our order my husband got a skillet thing and I got a Cobb salad with chicken added, she did tell us it would be a 20 or more wait they only had 2 cooks. My husbands food was burnt and not good..my chicken was rubbery, the avocado was bad and the lettuce had seen better day. I heard the waitress say 4 times to people in the area we were sitting they been no down time because it was busy because people were getting tax returns and it being the first of the month. There was maybe 13 tables filled in the hole place at the time...if that's busy I am afraid to know what kind of service I would get when it's packed....we only visit when we come to town because where we are from there is not Denny's but this is not 2 times for bad food and service we won't be back..there is an other burger place across the parking lot so worth the price!! read more

I have lived in Altoona for 27 years and have been a regular patron of this Denny's. Today's service was possibly the worst I have ever had. We waited for 25 mins before our drink order was even taken, then it took me complaining about the length of time it took for us to order our food before our order was taken. Then it took another half an hour to get our food. My husbands burger didn't have the queso on it like it was supposed to. Then my bacon bourbon burger didn't have bacon. Also, drink refills were non existing. Also all of our food was cold when brought to the table. Won't be returning again. read more

Altoona, PA location... Gross. So dirty. Waitress had about 6 pens stuck in her hair. I've gotten country fried steak and eggs there for about 40 years. All of a sudden the gravy is like grits and so very salty. I had to actually scrape it off. I didn't even eat half of the meal. The hash browns were burnt on the top and Frozen or raw in the middle. Those were definitely not real eggs either. I noticed the menu has calories, but that's more what people cared about in the 90s.... Why not show a carb count and a sugar count?
