Shanae at Dennys on cockrell hill was absolutely amazing. When we walked in she let us know upfront that there was a wait and that there was only her and a cook on duty. This was around midnight on July 5. We were appreciative of her letting us know and decided to wait anyway. Once we got seated she gave us clear instructions on how we could make the ordering process seamless and we followed her instructions. I set my timer for 30 minutes and she was bringing our food out within 20 minutes although she had 2 tables in front of us and 2 behind us. She was very prompt and attentive. Yolanda was the cook and was giving Shanae a hard time with not wanting to help do anything else besides cook the food although Shanae was the server, front server, cleaner, greeter AND was answering the phone. The Food was great and was served quickly. The Service was outstanding with a very polite manner. I would of given it a five star but the Ambiance was not what I expected, the outside area is in need of serious repairs so drive carefully if you don't want your car wheels to fall off. On February 20th. I visited Denny's with my classmate. I love this Denny's. I always, get the same waitress. She, has the best service. Yesterday, was a little off. The Grits were runny and the pancakes were not hot. I mentioned to my waitress. She, apologized. 5 minutes later. Another, lady bought pancakes and handed to me. As, reach for them. The plate was stove hot and I dropped the plate. Really, upset me. I asked; why would you hand me a plate that hot? That makes no sense. You have burned me. She just, looked and said; I did not know, it was hot. Then walked away, I asked; my waitress for ice. Sat for 25 more minuets with ice on my fingers and waiting for a manager. Found, the lady that burned me. Is, the mangers. I asked; her to make a incident report. She did not know, were the papers were. Had me to write my name and number down. I called the toll free #. They, said; it was independently owned. No one contacted me. Not, even with a simple apology. The customer sitting behind me. Witnessed everything. Even, stated; I don't mean to get in your business. Denny's is an all around nice place to eat: breakfast, lunch, dinner. This is the first time I've been to this location & DEFINITELY THE LAST. Service was meh. Traffic in the restaurant was meh--less than 20 people considering it's 2am. The reason why you're getting a poor review is my table is sticky, shredded cheese wasn't even melted, the receipt says "TAP WATER" & their were bugs crawling on the table. This Denny's has been around for a long time and not much has changed, whether that's a good thing or bad thing is up for debate. Typically I only frequent here once or twice a year, and mainly when my mother would like to eat there for a coupon (usually the birthday one since you have to go on your actual birthday to redeem it) No matter what, every single time we've been the smell hasn't quite been pleasant. Not sure how to describe it but right when you walk it's kind of a mix between a bathroom, dirt and food from the kitchen. Once you get to your table it's less noticeable and I think by that point your nose just more or less gets used to it. Which is not to say the place isn't clean, it just never smells like it is. Despite that, the service is usually pretty okay. We've never had any problems with any of our waiters or waitresses, and they've always been by enough that we never felt forgotten about. As far as food goes, it's okay. They'd changed the menu up a lot between this most recent time went and previous times before that. There's still nothing there that you couldn't find elsewhere and most likely, better tasting. I personally prefer going to other places but it's not terrible if you've got a craving for Denny's in particular. read more

I walk in the establishment and the first thing I noticed was the smell . It smelt like old mop water from the jump and I'm standing there so I can be attended to and I notice the server in straight street clothes . I usually love going to Denny's but not this morning. We got seated fast, the sever was new but he was good he repeated our order correctly and was attentive. My problem was with the cook. My sister-in-law ordered her eggs over medium and when they arrived they were raw so we sent them back. I ordered wheat toast and got white sent that back. Sisters eggs came back whites burnt and yolks hard, my toast came back not toasted so back again. Meanwhile decided to eat my pancakes, they were rubbery could hardly cut with a knife. Susan is an excellent server, very knowledgeable of the menu and gives you every option available when ordering. The staff was quick to clean up and serve tables.
