In my not-so-extensive travel experience, I've come to believe that people from beach cities tend to be a lot more laid back and friendly than urbanites. Then, that whole image came crashing down when a bunch of us went down to SD yesterday and tried - in vain - to look for a public restroom at 1:30am. After being turned away by a number of rude folks, we got a brilliant idea - type in Denny's in the navi! The closest one (we had already passed La Jolla) en route was this particular one in Del Mar. We pulled up to the large parking lot, slid the car into a slot, and.. while one girl made a mad dash to the restroom, I stood there contemplating the menu. I was hungry, you see. I hadn't eaten anything at the Stadium. I finally placed a to-go order for the Grand Slam. Pick four from the list for just $6! I can dig it, I can dig it. My order at 1:30 in the morning? 1. Bacon 2. Bacon 3. Bacon 4. Biscuit (could you top that with a little gravy, please?) Yeah, I know. I'm disgusting. What of it? It only took about five minutes to get my order, and the host dude was nice as can be. He smiled the entire time, helped me when I couldn't decide, didn't smirk when 3 out of my 4 choices was bacon, and... the final kicker... He even came outside to personally hand the bag over to me. I must say, this Denny's has a MUCH better late night menu than the ones near my house in the OC. I also must say, their to-go containers freaking ROCKED MY SOCKS. When I opened the box, I thought I just had my bacon. Then I realized.. the plate of bacon could be removed, only to reveal two larger compartments underneath! Oh, I am a true Korean. I also have to say that the veggie burger on the menu (surprise!) was really decent and came with spinach and mushrooms. We had Earl as a waiter and I have to say, he made our visit special! The place was jammed as the fair had just closed. He was attentive, made sure we were well cared for. While it was a 30 minute wait for our food, he made sure our coffee was full, we had plenty of cream and were well cared for. Without earl, the experience would have been average at best. With him, it was great!!! You would be lucky to have Earl as a server any where. read more

After leaving the fair on 7/2/2019, we went to Denny's for breakfast. We closed the fair down. By the time we left Denny's it was almost 1am on 7/3. The service was awful. It took forever just to have our order taken. We had to ask for refills on coffee and it took forever to get out food. I am sad to say there was only 1 waitress covering all the tables in the front of the restaurant. When I went to pay, the manager explained that 2 people called in so they were short handed. But not once did I see a manager come around to the tables to help this poor waitress out. All they did was bark orders at everyone else. Never will I bother to stop here again. Sorry to say, but if you are going to be a manager, that means jumping in there and helping out where help is needed. Not show everyone how lazy you are. read more

I never write yelp reviews but this denny's is so bad i just had to warn everyone. i walk in with my party of 10 not expecting to be seated but was told a table would be ready for us in 15-20 minutes. 30 minutes later we were told our entire party would not be able to sit together, this was the first thing that was a bit frustrating because we had been waiting for 30 minutes and was not told during that time that a table for 10 just was not possible. all of the staff was being short and snappy at me and my family and it was not appreciated at all. read more

I was waiting to pick up a friend from the fairgrounds and I didn't wanna be a freeloader, so I went in and ordered us some milkshakes to go. I was dismayed to learn that they discontinued their banana splits about a month ago, but they still had fresh blueberries and strawberry compote for their pancakes. This particular Denny's also has the wider red straws for their shakes, which makes drinking the berry shakes much easier. I tipped the customary 20% but halfway home I wished I'd slapped down a fiver, it was probably the best one I've had in years. Called in for a take out...staff was friendly. Although one of the waitresses had to help the host with the phone order, the order was not even placed when I arrived. I ordered the oatmeal with cranberries, confirmed it at the register and got bananas instead. That was no big deal but the patty melt was so greasy, the bread was soaked...I threw it out. I'm not from the area, but stopped in for breakfast. I was alone this morning and sat at the counter. My Waiter Chris immediatly acknowledged me and brought me an ice tea. Chris took my order, brought me a nice hot breakfast and I gobbled it down. It appeared as if all of the wait staff helped each other out and boy were they busy. Deducted 1 star because they were out of cranberry sauce for my hubby's turkey hobbit meal. Mine was good but I think the bacon may have been precooked and heated for me as it was crunchy as opposed to their normally wiggly bacon which I prefer and love. Overall good and good service. I eat out daily, this is a delmar quality Dennys. Nice, clean, good standard food. I like ordering breakfast food for dinner and they made the perfect eggs over well! Other places think eggs over well is eggs medium, ick. But, they made them perfectly crispy on the outside and well on the inside. I love this place. Affordable pricing. read more

Employees are rude and manager seems not to care. I ordered my food in person, paid with 20% tip just to be treated like a thief when picking up my food after waiting 15 minutes in my car. I was asked If I paid (same guy when I ordered) I replied yes and as if I was lying, he turned to his manager to ask what on the receipt indicated it was paid for. Manager did not know and told him to look it up on the register. Meanwhile my food is getting colder. The register confirmed my paid purchase and he handed me my food. Why did he ask me if I paid if he wasn't going to believe me. Jerk employee jerk manager. I called later to complain to the manager and was told the manager was too busy to answer calls. I got that for my mom because she can't eat much due to a stomach surgery. Well I go to pay when I went to check on my order that still was not ready 30 minutes later. The everyday value slam was actually still available. So I asked for a discount and was initially told that was now possible. I asked for a manager who then gave me a $4 discount. Then I was given a bag that should have been my order. I got back to my car and started going through it and it was not even close to my order. So I brought it back in and was given another bag. Which was most of my order but still had to go back in for missing items AGAIN. I watched him hand the bag I previously gave back to the person asking for the steak and crepes. I TOUCHED THE FOOD.
