Haven't been to Danny's in over 20 years so we thought we'd give it a try. The food was terrible. Greasy and soggy and left me with an upset stomach. The staff, with the exception of one person, was unfriendly. The girl who rang up our bill at the cash register actually gave us a very unpleasant somewhat hostile look, for some reason. Came in at around 11am for a quick breakfast before a movie at the mall. We were informed the kitchen was backed and decided to stay anyways because we wanted breakfast. I ordered pancakes and a coffee. When my coffee arrived the glass was stained with coffee stains (honestly disgusting) but didn't want to wait more for a new cup. I used a straw to drink it because I could not put my mouth on that cup. When our food arrived after waiting the pancakes were cold but we had to leave so ate it anyways. Today 08/06/23 @7:45pm cst After 2 hours of waiting 3 people from a party of 8 never received meals. There was so much more wrong with the service but the waiter said he was new so we tried to be patient and understanding (2 people didn't get their first drinks until after they got their food, the 5 who got food didn't get utensils until like 10 minutes after they got food and much more) that's not our main problem after 2 hours the 3 people without food just decided that we didn't want to wait and just take it off the bill. The manager gave us problems and argued that we have to pay for food that come to the table and she didn't even listen to us when we said the food never came to the table. She tried to charge us for steaks and the kitchen ran out of steaks. Finally the GM came she was polite and fixed the bill for us. read more

But wanted to take my step dad out for breakfast and he wanted to go to Denny's in gurnee so I did. I was very please with our server. Very fast on refills for my dads coffee and my ice tea. We both got one of their grand slam breakfasts and both were great. My eggs cooked perfect and the pancakes were very good. I had never been to Denny's before and honestly I was quite excited coming here. I had heard so many great things about Denny's late at night/early in morning so I decided to try it. It was 11:01 pm when we arrived and got seated right away. The waitress gave us like 2 minutes to look over our menu and was rushing us to order. My father ordered a smoothie and it took 30 min! How does it take 30 minutes for a SMOOTHIE??? After we ordered, the waitress never came back to check on us until the food came out. And the food took (I KID YOU NOT) 1 hour and 5 minutes from when we ordered. When we walked in we were never told it would be a long wait. If we were told that it would be an hour wait we sure as hell wouldn't have ate there because we were STARVING. I was so tired and I was pissed off while waiting. I am not exaggerating we started to stand up to leave but that was when the food came right out. We were literally about to leave. If I put all of that aside I would have to say the food tasted amazing. Maybe it was because I had been starving since 11 when we got there and it was 12 then, but it sure did taste good. I ordered the slam burger. Everyone at my table liked what they got but we could tell it was rushed. My bacon was hanging off the burger and the fries were kinda just everywhere. 5-Stars for a Denny's (it's not a 'Five-Star' dining experience... but acceptional for a Denny's!). For what it's worth, we ALWAYS have really good service when we stop here before going to Great America. (For those who are unaware of where it is, it's just past Gurnee Mills on the south side of the street, next to Applebee's). Our servers are always very attentive when we've stopped in, the food comes quickly and is always what we expected. As this is a chain type restaurant, I will not spend too much time on this as I'm sure many of my Yelper friends have been to a Denny's at least once in their live. The menu here is no different than any other Denny's, the food is served up just as you would get it in any other. Thus, my rating here is more for this particular location. I've been here several times and the service has always been good. The wait staff is friendly and do their best to bring out the meal as requested. The food is also of good quality for the price paid. When I'm looking for something simple, yet the family is along and need a menu with variety, we'll come here. We also experienced that at this location, albeit in Gurnee, and most of the other chain restaurants are packed, you can get a table here with no issues and leave content. read more

The reason this location did not get 3 stars is because 1) the service is usually lousy and 2) the place looks dirty all the time. Terrible experience from the moment we got there. We asked for a high chair for my one year old and they told us they were out, then we saw someone that got there after us get a high chair, but still not us. There was a leak right next to our table. They had a bus pan catching the water. The food wasn't the greatest the bacon tasted old and very weird. They keep us waiting forever for food, we ordered pancake puppies and never got them, they brought out my order of French toast but no syrup, my pop was empty and they never asked me if I wanted more until I had to ask. This is the worst Denny's that I have been to. And I have been to numerous Denny's in the area. My waffles was over cooked and hard. Their pancakes are also overcooked and hard. All their other breakfast menu items (eggs, hash browns, sides of meat etc.) were cold. The only good thing was that our waiter took good care of us with all this going on. This is why I gave them 2 stars over 1. The Manager and cooks needs training on progressive cooking. There is no way they should sautte their breakfasts vegetables as an early morning breakfast prep and leave them next to the grill until used up then sautte more for a more quickly served dish to the customer. As that pepper and onion sits next to the grill already cooked it looses flavor and gives opportunity for luke warm food to develop pathogens. When an omelette is cooked the fresh vegetables need to be progressively cooked on the grill just before the egg is put on the grill. The vegitibals won't be over cooked and will taste better. When I brought that up to the server he told me that's how they do it. (Really !!!!!) That is not how Denny's works I know! They cooked all of their bell peppers and chopped onions and had no more to chop up to put the kind of vegitibals I wanted in my omelet? (Raw as requested) The Manager told me the same thing that that is the way they do it. My question is are their any more pre prepped luke warm veggies sitting waiting to be put in your food @ This establishment. They all need to be trained on giving you the best progressive cooking as possible. Also quit giving poor excuses for lazy operations. I had to ordered something else.
